A spectacular birthday month has concluded (though birthday events will continue until August 11), which means it’s officially time to look forward to our next major Munzee extravaganza. MHQ Bash 6 is rapidly approaching, as we plan to trade in our #8zees attire for MedZEEval Times fun! Now we’re really going to be turning back time!
Though there are still a number of weeks before MHQ Bash 6, which will take place from September 27-29, the deadline for ordering your packages is rapidly approaching. Players will have until August 23 at 15:00 MHQ time to register online, so be sure to act fast for a weekend you won’t want to miss!
Players will have the opportunity to choose between two package options, as well as an additional add-on. Add “A Night With Knights” option to join the Freeze Tag Team at Medieval Times for a dinner and show with unique icon and badge options for all attendees! There will also be a special WallaBash celebration, with more details coming early next week!

Only a limited number of Mitmegu will be available for public sale. Each Mitmegu will cost $15, but you can upgrade it with a Bouncer Upgrade credit for an extra $5. The Bouncer Upgrade credit will equip your Mitmegu with the ability to be “nudged” to a new Munzee. This nudge feature can be used up to three times a day (MHQ 24 hour day) after it has sat for a minimum of three hours so that other players have the opportunity to find it.
Joining Mitmegu for sale are our other Pouch Creatures, Tuli, Vesi, and Muru. The Bouncer Upgrade credit will upgrade all Pouch Creatures and all Myths, so be sure to pick one up in the shop! If you haven’t deployed a Pouch Creature yet, now is your chance! The Bouncer Upgrade will also allow you to rename your Pouch Creature. While the name will still retain the unique number, you have the chance to get creative and customize your Pouch Creature’s moniker. (Just remember our player code of conduct!)

We know that you have all been patiently waiting for the new and improved 4.0 version of the Munzee app, and we are happy to announce that it has finally arrived! That’s right, the wait is over.
You can download the iOS version of the new app HERE!

This is an entirely new build, so you will not update your current version 3 of the Munzee app. Instead you will need to search for the new version in your phone’s app store. Please remember that the app may take some time to propagate, so if you don’t see it in the App or Google Play Store, just give it some time. We will be keeping version 3 of the app active temporarily, but we do plan to shut down that version in the near future, so just go ahead and download 4.0 today!
But before you jump into the newly updated game, complete with brand new features, allow us to break down some of our favorite things about 4.0!
The latest version of everyone’s favorite game is a foundation for us to build upon. We consider it a vision for the future, with additional tools being added regularly as we move forward. Due to limitations from version 3, we’ve had to delay some awesome features in the past, but this will limit us no more! We have some big ideas ahead, but for now let’s take a look at what 4.0 has to offer!
Main Feature Updates
New and improved map loading speed.
New square pins for Physical Munzees and round pins for Virtual Munzees.
Updated artwork to include all types in pin form to more precisely show the location of the munzee.
New interactive walkthrough tutorial hosted by our buddy the newly energized Rover.
Reorganization of filters into categories, making them easier to sort through.
Players can now combine multiple premium filters at a time.
Larger, cleaner font throughout the game.
Improved compass that more clearly indicates the Northern point.
Improved follow feature to keep player marker centered on the map.
New in-app announcements system that will deliver news directly to the players.
Additional Updates
The Munzee capture button at the bottom changes between square and round depending on the type selected on the map so you always know which type you’re looking for.
Pouch Creatures and Evolution Munzees now include stage numbers.
New “All Alternamyths” and “All Places” premium filters.
Filters are now applied immediately. Players do not need to save each time they choose filters.
Players can now see what filters they have set for each preset, making it easier to edit and make changes.
Magnet and Special timers now show down to the minutes/seconds.
Added a new “Inventory” section to the profile, making it more clear to new players what they have available to deploy.
Players can now quickly tap to capture from the List view using the new green arrow buttons, instead of sliding the entry in the list then tapping to cap.
Tapping on badge notifications in the activity feed now takes you to that specific badge in your collection.
Added countdown timer to the leaderboards for when it will reset in MHQ time.

We know that playing Munzee can be a bit overwhelming to new players, but many of our most diehard fans appreciate the complexity and pride that comes with mastering this multi-layered game. Luckily with our new in-app tutorial for new players, it’s easier than ever to introduce new players to Munzee. That’s why we’re asking our players to share 4.0 with their friends and family!
As a limited time extension to our current Munzee Referral Program, we will host a referral contest starting next week! Help us share the new app and Grow the Game for a chance to earn a limited edition badge, prizes, and more! We’ll have more information next week, but this contest will not be retroactive, and it will only run from February 1 through 28.
While you’re waiting for those details, though, head over to the Freeze Tag Online Store and download a free Custom Referral Card. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to introduce new players to the game and get rewarded for it. The Custom Referral Card will contain your personal Referral code to share with new players. The more shares, the more rewards!
We will also be running several sales tomorrow in celebration of the 4.0 update release! There will be a separate blog post detailing those sales today at 12:00 MHQ, and all sales will begin at 12:15 MHQ.
We know this is long overdue, but we can’t explain enough how many possibilities this opens for the future. The whole team has worked so hard for this release, and we’re ready to keep the momentum moving forward! Over the weekend, MHQ Bash attendees were given the chance to look behind the veil at what Team Munzee does in its free time. We introduced them to a new team building project we’ve been working on called TazkMaster!
Based on the British comedy game show Taskmaster*, our version sees the Munzee staff split into teams and tasked with completing bizarre and vague challenges for points. The teams are given very little information regarding how they complete their Tazks, so they have to work together to succeed.
Prior to the MHQ Bash reveal, the teams had no clue what they were doing or how they were doing compared to the other teams. At Casino Night Friday, TazkMaster Rob and Tazktician Dylan unveiled a compiled video of the first two Tazks.
Tazk 1: FTC (Freeze To Capture)
Objective: Thaw out the hidden Ice Munzee and scan it for points. You can use objects that have been hidden around the room, but you must be quick.
In this challenge each team had to thaw out an Ice Munzee from a bowl of frozen water. They could use any items in the room to access the munzee, but not all items were easily seen. Some of the teams were quick to crack the code, while others just blew a bunch of hot air.
Tazk 2: Alphabet Zoup
Objective: Your team needs to put their heads together to fill out the Munzee Alphabet Zoup form. Name as many munzee types as you can for each letter of the Alphabet in under 2 minutes. A is for Amethyst, B is for Battle Axe, etc. Each letter will only count once.
For this Tazk our teams had to come up with a munzee for each letter of the alphabet. Easy right? Well for a group who works 40 hours a week with Munzee, you might expect a little more out of us…
Finally, after revealing the videos of the first two Tazks Friday night we announced that a third Tazk was going to be preformed live in front of the audience! While the video for this won’t be released for a few weeks, we figured we could let you all in on the worst-kept secret in Team Munzee history.
Tazk 3: Munzee Melodeez
Objective: Show the crowd at MHQ Bash a good time and come up with some Munzee Melodeez. Using your team’s instrument, write a Munzee-themed jingle set to a well known song’s beat. You have 15 minutes to plan your song in private. Encourage the crowd to sing along and wow the TazkMaster who is judging the jingles.
In the middle of Friday’s Casino Night event, Dylan pulled the team’s away individually to announce the surprise Tazk. Each team had 15 minutes to prepare their songs and surprisingly there were some bonafide hits!

We also announced that Tazk 3 was just the beginning of these TazkMaster shenanigans. Throughout the coming months we’ll be challenging our teams more and more, with a grand finale at next year’s MHQ Bash. Agents, those of you who purchased the Royal Flush MHQ Bash package* have been chosen for an exclusive ZeeOps Operation.
You will all automatically be added to “Operation: All In” a special 3 Day Operation which will last the weekend. Starting Friday at 00:01 MHQ you can begin the pre-assigned missions. It’s up to you to go undercover and investigate the Event Hosts.
Once the Operation is live you can view your daily missions on the ZeeOps Dashboard or in the Munzee App. You do not have to choose any missions as these have all been pre-set to your account. If you happen to be doing another Operation, no worries, these have been set to allow both Operations to function at the same time.

Casino Royale (FRI): Capture a Pink Event Indicator Pin, a Business Munzee, 10 Personals and earn at least 5,000 points.
Mission Mythological (SAT): Capture a Pink Event Indicator Pin, a Business Munzee, at least one Mythological and earn at least 5,000 points.
Trail By Error (SUN): Capture a Pink Event Indicator Pin, complete a 5 Stop Virtual Trail, and earn at least 5,000 points.
By completing the 3 Day Operation you’ll earn a variety of rewards as well as the exclusive “Operation: All In” badge.

Although August usually tends to be a cool down after July’s big birthday month, this year we kept very busy! We gave our players a hand, flew high in the sky and even started treasure hunting. Take a look back on some of the things that happened last month and what to expect this month as well!

Leftie Loosy
To celebrate International Left Handers Day and all of our left-handed players, we released a fun special at the beginning of the month! The Leftie Specials bounced all over the globe and to recognize the 10% of the population that is left handed these specials also had a 10% chance of scattering a Left Handed Thumbs Up icon.
The Thumbs Up were pretty rare to come by, but Munzee Magnets helped out!
High Flyers
This month the majestic Pegasus Mythological Munzee took to the skies. Although other Myths like the Faun and Hydra land on Greenies and specific physical Elemental Munzees, the Pegasus is a different kind of beast. The Pegasus bounces on all colors of Virtual Munzees, Mystery Virtual Munzees, and MVMs as well as Air Mystery Munzees.
Avast, me hearties! This month we announced the new Treasure Evolution Munzee as a Munzee reseller exclusive! Our resellers are great at promoting and being ambassadors for Munzee and its community so thank you to them for helping us grow the game! Like other Evolution Munzees, the Treasure Munzee consists of three stages and evolves over time.
Birthday month has come and gone and with the help of our players we celebrated six years in a very big way! Take a look back on some of the things that happened last month and what to expect this month as well!
We ended Birthday Month with some HUGE news: Munzee and our partner Freeze Tag Inc.are merging companies! For the last year, Munzee and Freeze Tag have been working together in various ways on Garfield GO! and as the saying goes “two heads are better than one.” The leadership team at Freeze Tag are top notch guys with vast experience in building apps and bringing in new players.
We are excited to see their team join the Munzee family and help us all Grow the Game(s)!
Birthday BAM!
To celebrate 6 spectacular years, we released Comic Book special iconsfor the entire month. When captured the specials scattered three onomatopoeia icons- BAM!, POW! and BANG! Players who managed to capture all 3 were able to earn a special comic book panel badge too!
These alongside the Munzee Magnets were an awesome way to kick off Birthday Month!
Extraordinary Events
Birthday Events were a huge hit last month! There were 110 events that took place throughout July and the 6th Birthday Super Rob special was capped an amazing 4,673 times! We also reached new highs with the events in Germany being the first to hit over 250 attendees, something we haven’t even done at MHQ! Thank you to all of our awesome Event Hosts!

Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
Last month we were proud to announce that Places Munzeesare now available to the public for purchase! Now players can deploy their own Airports, Sports Stadiums, Wildlife and Museum munzees all across the world.
At the tailend of Birthday Month we were proud to announce the creation of the Air Mystery Munzee! This virtual Elemental Munzee is the first of it’s kind and is currently exclusive to Virtual MunzPak subscribers in August. When capped, the Air Mystery Munzee scatters three temporary virtual Feathers. When those feathers are captured, they have a chance of throwing three ultra rare temporary virtual Golden Feathers.

Thanks to the might of our players we broke numerous Munzee records this weekend! With Matt and Rob attending events both nationally and internationally, and the rest of the team on deck we were ready for a big weekend, but once again our players have taken it to the next level.
On Saturday we clocked in an AMAZING 1,002,986 captures in a single day! The rest of the weekend was just as crazy with 511,567 on Friday and 789,303 on Sunday totaling over two million captures all weekend! We can’t even begin to show our gratitude to the players worldwide for helping us hit this milestone.
We also saw our largest Munzee Events EVER this weekend. Germany was the place to be with three events all with over 200 attendees! Saturday’s event in Bielefeld, Germany had 261 event indicator captures which is the largest event a Munzee player has ever hosted. We’ll need to step up our game for MHQ Bash! Rob will certainly have plenty to say about his European adventures when he gets back, so stay tuned to hear more.
