Celebrating September POTM and GOTM Winners!

Fall is settling in here in Texas, and we’re officially reaching the conclusion of Bash month. We’ve had an awesome 30 days filled with MedZEEval celebrations worldwide! Looking back at this festive month, we’re happy to award our appropriately themed winners of September Garden of the Month (GOTM) and Player of the Month (POTM), as well as announce the criteria for October POTM! Ready to find out which players battled their way to the top this month?!

September GOTM

It’s time to recognize some outstanding Virtual Garden builders! In honor of our MedZEEval themed Bash month, we selected winning gardens that are steeped in history. As always, all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award Casa de Santana, organized by Cidinho, and Diezer Grafenschloss, organized by T72! The winning September GOTM gardens appear as follows:

Casa de Santana by Cidinho in the Madeira Islands

The Casa de Santana garden (left) is based on the typical houses of Santana (right), located in the Madeira Islands.

This garden showcases one of the typical houses of Santana, a beautiful village located in the North Coast of the Madeira Islands. The small houses are composed of natural stone and thatched with straw, serving the locals for centuries as stables and dwellings. Now the area provides a tourist attraction. The region is comprised of 6 parishes, and the people essentially live from agriculture, craftwork, and tradition. In the words of garden creator Cidinho, the mountainous landscapes are dominated by the lush green that characterises the Laurissilva Forest, which was classified as “World Heritage” by the UNESCO, encouraging locals even more to do everything to maintain its beauty, which this garden does its best to show off.

This garden reached its completion in early August in time for the town of Diez to enjoy a double weekend event. Located in the little town of Diez is the Grafenschloss castle built in 1073. T72 created the garden in order to showcase the town for Munzee players worldwide and invite them to check out the castle. This fits right into Munzee’s spirit of adventure, and we love how he used his garden building skills to showcase what makes his area special. T72 tried to copy the original castle as much as he could in his design in order to make it recognizable for players. The green and blue bar under the castle indicate the Lahnwiesen and the river Lahn.

September POTM

In honor of Bash month, we created a special badge for our September POTM winners! This unique POTM badge is eligible for any player to earn regardless of previous wins:

This badge will be awarded at 00:01 MHQ time on Tuesday, October 1 to all players who earned at least 5,000 points from any Clan Weapons activity. That means you still have a few hours left to finish earning your points if you want to pick up this all new badge! Congratulations to all players who battled their way to earning this custom badge, but if you didn’t quite make the cut, then there is still hope for next month!

October POTM Criteria

Do you use a third party app or website to make your Munzee experience even better? Do you have a favorite reseller who always has what you’re looking for? Well let us know, because this October’s POTM nominations are for those who go the extra mile for the good of the game. Although the Freeze Tag Team is always hard at work making the game as great as possible, there are a number of external tools that our players have put together themselves, and we couldn’t be more proud! This is a wide open nomination theme, but we do request that in your nomination emails you include a link to a website, app, etc. so we can confirm the greatness of these players!

Announcing August GOTM and POTM Winners!

The end of the month means it’s time for some well-deserved player recognition! We’re happy to announce the winners of our August Garden of the Month (GOTM) and Player of the Month (POTM) badges, as well as the criteria for September POTM, which just might include a special badge! ?

August GOTM Winners

First let’s recognize some outstanding Virtual Garden builders! As always, all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map! So if you organized or deployed in the Sunflower Garden, organized by wemissmo, or the Pegasus Garden, organized by zsomborpeto, then congratulations on earning August GOTM badges!! August POTM called for player nominations, as players submitted their selections for players with ZeeQRew or QRew status who demonstrate their dedication to readily responding to munzees and keeping the map clean. We received several dozen nominations and couldn’t be more thrilled to give this badge to those players who help keep Munzee fun for all!

September POTM Requirements

To celebrate birthday month in July, we offered a brand new badge that any player could earn regardless of whether or not they had previously earned Player of the Month. Well, September has us pretty excited about MHQ Bash 6, so we decided to once again offer a unique POTM badge this month that any player is eligible to earn! But before you get too excited, you’ll have to meet the requirements to earn this badge:

Players engaged in September Clan Wars will now have an extra goal to aspire to, as any player who earns a minimum of 5,000 points from any Clan Weapon activity in September will be awarded this special badge at the conclusion of the month. That means that Clan Weapon Capture, CapOn, and Deploy points will all count towards earning this elite badge for September POTM.

Thanks for making August a great month for Munzee! We can’t wait to share all the fun that September has in store!

July POTM and August POTM Requirements!

July has been a QRazy month, but when we say QRazy, we mean QRazy awesome! We challenged players to help us reach 8,888,888 deploys before the conclusion of the month, and the Munzee community joined forces to complete the QRazy 8’s Deploy Challenge by July 19! That means in addition to the July POTM badge, qualifying players can enjoy their QRazy 8 Deploy Challenge prizes!

July POTM

Since July was Munzee’s birthday month, we wanted to celebrate a wide variety of players who help contribute to growing the game! All “Determined Deployers” who have deployed at least 16 munzees throughout July (not including socials and personals) will be awarded the special July POTM badge on August 1:

The July POTM badge is a special badge unique from previous POTM badges. This is a brand new badge that any player, regardless of previous POTM wins, is able to earn. Remember, there is still a day and a half left to finish your deploys before July ends in order to earn the badge!

QRazy 8 Deploy Challenge

In addition to the special July POTM badge, all July POTM winners also qualify for the QRazy 8 Deploy Challenge prizes! All players who deployed at least 8 munzees in the month of July will be awarded 1 Virtual, 1 Virtual Color Credit, 1 Urban Fit credit, 1 Physical Capture 2x Booster, and the limited edition QRazy 8’s badge on August 1! Lastly, our August POTM criteria will call for player nominations! As the QRazy 8’s challenge demonstrated, Munzee thrives due to its awesome, interactive community. We’re lucky to have a dedicated players base who helps maintain the map, as demonstrated by ZeeQRew and QRew statuses. July GOTM is Twice as Nice with Double the Winning Gardens!

July has been an outstanding month, as an influx in specials hit the map and players celebrated Munzee’s 8th birthday all over the world in #8zees attire. That’s why we decided, why limit our July Garden of the Month (GOTM) winners to our typical two winning gardens, when we’ve been having the double the fun?! Below you can find all four of our winning gardens!

In honor of Munzee’s birthday month, we selected some of our favorite celebratory Munzee gardens for July GOTM. Husband and wife team Engel19 and teamkiwii have organized a number of garden projects over the years to grow the game in the Stuttgart area of Germany, including this garden for last year’s birthday celebration. Together they have spent many hours planning and nurturing their wonderful gardens to spread Munzee joy!

Garden creator Bonn earned a second win with this Munzee Logo Garden, featuring the signature Munzee Logo and colors! Previously Bonn captured the Munzee spirit with one of the two winning March Gardens of the Month for his QR Code Map!

I HEART MUNZEE by NativenUK in Buffalo, New York

Inspired by the “I love NY” logo, this garden will turn red when completed and capped. Located in an untapped suburb of Buffalo, NY close to Niagara Falls, this celebratory garden was recently completed just before Munzee’s birthday month ended! We love this clever design that celebrates everyone’s favorite real world scavenger hunt!

Announcing June POTM and GOTM Winners! (QRazy Challenge!)

It’s almost a wrap for June, which means we’re just days away from Munzee’s official birthday month! But before we dive into that celebration, it’s time to honor both our June Players of the Month (POTM) and Gardens of the Month (GOTM) winners!

June POTM

June POTM was selected based off player nominations, as we asked you to send in your choices for outstanding clan coordinators. Many players jumped at the opportunity to share their picks for players who step up to the plate and apply their top organizational skills to coordinating Clan Wars. You can find a complete list of the June POTM winners at the end of the blog. Congratulations to all of these players for being recognized by fellow players for your outstanding leadership skills!

July POTM Requirements

Our July POTM requirements will see Determined Deployers being awarded. Anyone who deploys at least *16 munzees throughout July will earn the following special Player of the Month badge that we have newly updated for July winners:

Per usual, the July POTM badge won’t be awarded until the end of the month, but it is a new badge for Birthday month only. So even if you’ve earned the previous POTM or POTW badges, this will be a new badge to earn! And speaking of earning badges for deploys…

QRazy 8’s Deploy Challenge

It’s time for a community challenge! We challenge you all to help us reach 8,888,888 deploys before the end of the month. From the last deploy count taken on June 25, we are currently at 8,768,683 deploys. If the goal is met by the end of July, anyone who deploys at least 8 munzees of any type during July will earn 1 Virtual, 1 Virtual Color Credit, 1 Urban Fit credit, 1 Physical Capture 2x Booster, as well as the limited edition QRazy 8’s badge!

*Note: Socials and personals are excluded from deploy count and qualification badge for both POTM and the deploy challenge. If the deploy challenge is met, all players who deployed will also earn the Crazy 8’s badge. (All prizes and badges will be awarded at the end of the month.) You people are QRazy, and we love it!

June GOTM

It’s time to recognize some outstanding Virtual Garden builders! While we have lots of exceptional garden nominations to choose from, we’ve been waiting to award our June winners for a little while now! All winning GOTM organizers, as well as all players who deployed in the winning gardens, will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map in one of the funnest ways possible. The June Garden of the month title goes to the Fort Worth Longhorn Garden, organized by denali0407, and Grenaa City’s Coat of Arms, organized by RUJA and Heinerup! Some gardens are so beautiful they don’t even need nominations! Everyone at MHQ (and online!) were big fans of this beautiful garden, which was created for Geowoodstock 2019, held in Fort Worth.

Grenaa City’s Coat of Arms by RUJA and Heinerup in Grenaa, Denmark

This very large garden contains more than 3,000 virtuals for a flawless execution by this Danish duo. The garden depicts the coat of arms of the Danish town of Grenaa based on a seal from the early 14th century that depicts a bridge over the Grenaa river. A church stands on either side of the bridge, symbolizing the local church and older chapter, while the stars and crescents represent traditional Christian symbols of the time. This garden is near a very large birthday event taking place July 6 which Matt will be attending.

May Players of the Month and June POTM Requirements!

Can you believe tomorrow is already the first day of June?! That means it will be Munzee’s birthday in no time! It’s also time to give a big Munzee shoutout to the many players who earned the May Player of the Month (POTM) badge for capturing 500 or more uniques of a specific myth. While some declared this feat to be quite challenging, we’re happy to have awarded hundreds of players for being absolute Myth Masters!

Congratulations to all who earned May POTM! And now it’s time to move on to next month’s requirements, which will call for nominations!

June POTM Requirements

Ready to give some recognition to hard-working players who go above and beyond? We will be awarding the POTM title to outstanding clan coordinators during the month of June! Do you know someone who is able to rally a team and coordinate the troops to victory? Many players put in hard work and careful consideration when organizing Clan Wars, and it’s about time they received their due recognition! These players could organize one clan or multiple clans so be sure to let us know the name of the player and clan(s).

If you know an outstanding clan organizer, email their player name to iloveyou@munzee.com by June 25 at 15:00 MHQ time to nominate them for the chance to earn June POTM! Remember that anyone who earned the Player of the Week badge previously IS able to earn the Player of the Month badge as well! The criteria for POTM changes each month, so stay tuned for the July POTM criteria if June isn’t your month to shine.

Munzee Mistakes: Introduction to ZeeOps and Clan Wars

After sharing a variety of tips that covered many aspects of gameplay, such as deploying and capping munzees, this week we’re exploring two areas of everyone’s favorite real world scavenger hunt that new players may be entirely unfamiliar with. We’re talking about ZeeOps and Clan Wars, which offer the chance for competitive gameplay with both yourself and others, respectively. Read on to discover more about Munzee competitive play and hear what tips and tricks fellow players have to share to help you enjoy all that Munzee has to offer!

Are you interested in competitive gameplay with yourself? ZeeOps might be the answer for you! Feel like a secret agent by taking on monthly Missions that range in difficulty levels and require a variety of Munzee skills to conquer. Complete your Missions within the required amount of time to unlock treasures! Every month new Operations will be released, including confidential information related to each month’s Mission. In order to start ZeeOps, you’ll need to earn some ZeeCred, which you can pick up in the Freeze Tag Online Store. You will be able to earn more credits through completing operations.

Is competitive gameplay with others more your speed? Join a clan and compete in monthly Clan Wars with members of your team! Clans are formed with ten players, with the opportunity to use the Clan Randomizer button to find a spot in a clan from 00:01 MHQ time on the first of each month through 23:59 MHQ time on the second of each month if you need help joining. Clan Wars criteria will be released at the end of each month for the upcoming month, with all Clan Battles starting on the third and lasting for the duration of the month. The monthly requirements will vary, but they largely include both individual and group components needed to be achieved in order to move up between the five levels. That means a clan is often only as strong as its weakest link, though many clans only aspire to reach a certain level each month.

Below are 32 tips offered by fellow players. Munzee may provide some fierce competition, but that doesn’t mean that plenty of players aren’t here to help every step of the way!

Clan Wars & ZeeOps Tips and Tricks

Tip #1: Take advantage of both Clan Wars and ZeeOps to earn credits and specials. Then place the munzees you earn near your home or work to increase your odds of attracting Bouncers. (KLC)

Tip #2: If you are a newbie to Munzee, don’t cap everything that is around you when you first start playing. You will need some convenient caps to meet the requirements for Clan Wars and for ZeeOps. (Bossmanlee)

Tip #3: Start “Clan Warring” and “ZeeOpsing” as soon as possible. It’s easier to fill requirements before you’ve capped everything in your city. Plus you’ll get credits to make your area more appealing to other players. (Aukush)

Tip #4: For ZeeOps, start with the Cadet level. It is fun and easy and a great way to introduce you to Ops and how it works. Plus you get enough ZeeCreds from completing the operation to try a Basic Level! (5Star)

Tip #5: If you’re doing a level 2+ ZeeOp and one of the available missions of the month is to have 500 or 1,000 cap-on points, schedule that on a Saturday or Sunday. That’s when most people are capping munzees (either at events or on their own). (pikespice)

Tip #6: Set a reminder for ZeeOps so you don’t forget. (qdog)

Tip #7: I love ZeeOps, because you can do some little personal challenges each day and get credits for them! I add the daily requirements to my reminders on my calendar so I don’t forget. (jellybean88)

Tip#8: Always wear sunglasses while doing ZeeOps… this makes you feel like a secret agent. ? (Jerzee)

Tip #9: Cluster your deploys — have pockets of jewels, zodiacs, elementals, etc. This will help attract players doing ZeeOps! (Leese Philip)

Tip #10: If you wonder how to try a longer operation or use the Mission Mulligan in the very beginning, you can win ZeeCreds on Prize Wheels, and you get some each month as a gift for being Premium Member. (xwusel)

Tip #11: If you are able, attend events to meet some friendly faces and have a chance to learn more about the game. Bonus tip: participate in some basic ZeeOps to earn a fun variety of new munzees to deploy. (beckiweber)

Tip #12: Remember that there is the Mulligan whereby you are allowed to fix one day’s failed operation at the cost of 25 Zeecred. But this doesn’t apply for the last day of the mission! (stebu)

Tip #13: You can win ZeeCreds by capping Prize Wheel Munzees. (BrianMoos)

Tip #14: Remember that Clan Wars don’t start until the 3rd day of the month. If you are doing a ZeeOp and are in a clan, you can consider not starting your ZeeOp before the 3rd. There is no reason for all the ZeeOps hard work to go to waste and not do double duty and count for the clan as well. (3Blanchards)

Tip #15: Consider joining a clan. It makes you part of a team with a common goal, and it teaches discipline when capping so you don’t just go around capping everything. (fsafranek)

Tip #16: Try to join a clan! Clan members are a mine of information and encouragement. Joining a clan also helps you realize that many other quite normal people enjoy scanning lampposts! (Thegenie18)

Tip #18: Join a clan and have a clan group chat page! It really helps all clan members with things like deploying virtuals near clan mates. It is great to have help with all things Munzee and have a general Munzee chat with fellow players. (lolbot)

Tip #19: Join the Munzee team sport that is Clan Wars. Once you understand the requirements, don’t cap everything in a 10 mile radius in your first week! (Section42)

Tip #20: In Clan Wars, if CapOn points are counted that month, consider focusing on capping the munzee’s deployed by your teammates to help their points increase as well. This will help the overall points of the clan. If you live in an area with few munzees, encourage your team to build the map locally so all will have points to obtain. This will also attract new and traveling players. (FindersGirl)

Tip #21: Not all clans aspire to reach Level 5, but different clans have different goals. Be ready to do 1/10 of the requirements before committing to a certain level in a clan, unless you agreed otherwise. (halizwein)

Tip #22: Choose a level in Clan Wars that you are comfortable playing to keep it fun. (YMHgra)

Tip #23: For Clan Wars, pick what level you can complete 10% of clan goals and what level you can complete just the personal requirements, and let potential clans know both levels you feel comfortable with. Some clans may not care if you can do 10%; others may require it. (technical13)

Tip #25: At the end of the day, remember that you are playing a game. Yes, people can get competitive, and it’s fun to win, but it’s more important to enjoy yourself and celebrate small victories when you’re engaging in Clan Wars or ZeeOps! (violetblonde)

Tip #31: For Clan Wars, having clan mates in different areas can help with clan POB, TOB, and MOB requirements. (Belboz)

Tip #32: Play the game the way you like it. Whether you do Clan Wars or ZeeOps, deploy only physicals or only virtuals, that is up to you. Start the game the way you like it most, and if you still enjoy it after a month or so, branch out deeper into the game. It can be overwhelming if you try to learn it all at once. (Reart)

April Gardens of the Month Winners Revealed!

2019 is already one-third complete, and it’s time to reward two more of our outstanding Virtual Garden builders! For the last four months, we have been asking for Garden of the Month nominations in order to award players for their exceptional Virtual Garden organizing skills. Not only will all GOTM organizers win special badges, but we will also award our GOTM badges to all players who deployed in winning gardens. At times Munzee can be a team effort, and we appreciate all of the group efforts to create such fun and beautiful gardens for all to enjoy!

For our April Gardens of the Month, we’re happy to award the Butterfly Garden, organized by none other than Goofybutterfly, and Boogie Woogie, organized by destrandman. Rules for GOTM nominations:

Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Munzee Mistakes: 10 Tips and Tricks for New Players

Welcome to Munzee! Munzee is a complex game, and to make it easier for both new and old players, we have been sharing tips every week on social media with the help of player suggestions. Whether this is your first day or fourth year playing, it’s always helpful to connect with other players in order to hone your hunting skills.

If you’re in need of some helpful hints, we have compiled together our social media tips that we have been sharing weekly. Consider these tips while playing to avoid the most common Munzee mistakes! If you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, these tips might look familiar.

Tip #1: Use your filters! Make it easier to find specific munzee types by turning different filters off and on! Don’t forget that you can unlock even more filters with a Premium Membership.

Tip #2: Read the notes on munzees. Look under “details” to discover helpful hints that offer tips on where to look. When deploying a munzee at a location that is not obvious, be sure to add descriptive notes. They are always appreciated by players!

Tip #3: When deploying physical munzees, scan the munzee sticker in your hand first, then stick it. This will avoid any issues with attempting to deploy too close to another munzee, so you won’t have to peel off a sticker and relocate it! Once you’ve added the name and description to your deploy, you can re-scan the sticker to verify that it can be capped easily. (Tip courtesy of WiseOldWizard.)

Tip #4: When you first start playing Munzee, try to get the hard to earn badges first, such as the Pi Badges which require an exact number of points capped in a day. Once you start Deploying and earning CapOn points, some badges can be extremely tricky to get. (Tip courtesy of valmie.)

Tip #5: Buying a Premium Membership is worth the extra cost, as you are able to see more of the map area and be more selective with filters if you are in a munzee dense area and only looking for certain types to cap. It also helps because you can choose to not see munzees you’ve already capped or deployed. (Tip courtesy of bumpy.)

Tip #6: Leave some of your neighborhood blank – you never know what new types of munzees MHQ has up their sleeve. You don‘t want to not be able to deploy at least one nearby to keep your neighborhood interesting! (Tip courtesy of granitente.)

Tip #7: For a unique and adventurous Munzee experience, use tree tags to grow the game into the wild. When created with quality materials and deployed correctly, tree tags will likely last longer than stickers on light poles and signs. And you get to hike and enjoy nature while deploying and capping! Tip #8: Always keep two or three stickers between your phone and the phone case for those emergency replacements. (And to play it extra safe, don’t leave home without a portable phone charger!) (Tip courtesy of wazong.)

Tip #9: Remember that just because you CAN place a physical Munzee somewhere doesn’t mean you should. Consider dangers like traffic and terrain when placing that strategic sticker. Munzees placed in private courtyards and compounds not open to the public will see little action. Finally, remember the forbidden places in the Player Code of Conduct! (Tip courtesy of The8re)

Tip #10: Don’t cap everything at once! If you are doing Clan Wars, you may need to save certain caps in your town for future months. It can be overwhelming, but go slow and steady. Leaving munzees uncapped will also help with maintaining streaks during dry periods. (Tip courtesy of Sprinkman)

Bonus Tip: There are three kinds of bouncers: POBs (Player Owned Bouncers), MOBs (Munzee Owner Bouncers), and TOBs (Team Owned Bouncers.) The distinction is very important for Clan Wars.
