Global Grub Special Dropping This Afternoon!

This Munzee Monday is equipped with a very special announcement. While some of our American players are enjoying the three-day weekend, we are excited to announce that our first of nearly two dozen Global Grub specials for the year will be launching this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. So strap on your walking shoes, because it’s time to explore our latest feature!

The Global Grub specials are very rare munzees that will bounce around the world for the remainder of the year. That means you’ll be spending the next eleven months capturing pins featuring different country flags in order to earn badges sporting a unique dish of food for each country. That’s right, your culinary palette is about to expand!

Our first Global Grub special to launch is a physical munzee, featuring the flag for Switzerland. Only one will be deployed, and it will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Magnets though so be sure to stock up! 

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Players will earn a badge for each different Global Grub they capture starting with the La Fondue badge for capturing the Switzerland pin! Down the line, we’ll also be putting out an overall capture line, so stay tuned for more.

Each Global Grub Munzee will go live at 15:00 MHQ on their assigned day. We’re not announcing when each launch will be, but we expect to release a couple specials each month.

All Global Grub specials will leave the map on 12/31/2019 at 23:59 MHQ. Until then, you’ll be able to capture the Global Grub specials on other players’ Greenies as well as your own. Although there is only one Switzerland Global Grub Special, future releases may include more. You’ll just have to wait and see! Some of these specials will be physical, while others will be virtual. Keep in mind that virtuals will not be blastable.

Announcing the NEW Player Of The Month program!

After many months of hiatus we’re excited to announce a revamping of our Player Of The Week program! The new Player Of The Month program will work similarly to it’s weekly precursor, with a few notable differences. Player(s) Of The Month will be based on a different set of criteria each month. For example we’re kicking off January by highlighting some of our world-renowned Virtual Garden builders! Read the entire blog post to see how you can nominate others!

Say CONGRATS to brandikorte and mnbball as the first POTM winners!

AND It wouldn’t be right to award the builders of gardens this honor without acknowledging the people who built the first tools! Laczy76 and TheMachman These two will also receive the POTM badge for their work in the Munzee community.

These builders have done fantastic work developing Virtual Gardens with the help of the worldwide community. You may recognize brandikorte’s Sunset Cowboy Garden in Ft. Worth, TX. Those in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area may recognize the Burger or Pizza Gardens by mnbball. There might be some more news regarding these Virtual Gardens too, so stay tuned!

If you know a GREAT virtual garden builder please provide two things for us: 1) username 2) Map hyperlink to the garden  — email this information by January 28th to iloveyou@munzee.com so we can choose additional POTM for January.

During some months we may ask for nominations from our players based on that month’s criteria and we will choose recipients based on those details. Anyone who earned the Player Of The Week badge previously IS able to earn the Player Of The Month badge as well! In other months we may automatically award the POTM badge to players who meet certain requirements.

The Player Of The Month requirements for February are based on Super Streaks! If you have captured and/or deployed every day for more than a year you will be rewarded. These dedicated players don’t believe in a day off, but their hard work is helping grow the map!

Earn the Super Duper ULTRA Streak badge by capturing and deploying a munzee every day for a year!

The only requirement is that you have captured AND/OR deployed for at least 366 days straight at any point in your Munzee career. Even if you completed the Super Beast badge three months ago you will still be rewarded, if you didn’t stop at 365. Badges will be awarded February 28th.

Don’t forget, we have monthly Resolution Streak badges for capturing a munzee every day! These reset each month so you can still earn February if you missed a day in January! Maybe there will even be some new long term Streak badges for those who didn’t give up after a year??? Stay tuned for more!

We’re excited to kick off the new Player Of The Month program and challenge you all to play the game in many different ways! We plan to recognize the worldwide nature of the game this year.

Introducing Tourism Capture Badges!

We’re excited to announce a new line of badges for capturing munzees associated with the Tourism filter are now available to earn! These badges are primarily linked to the Historic and Iconic Munzees from different countries around the world and states in the US, but they will also include one-off lines like the Muncie, IN Garfield Virtual Munzees.

Munzees that will count towards these badges include:

There will be six badges in total (you can see the first three above) and this line is retroactive. Although these can be earned in specific areas we are continuing to expand our Tourism line in the near future. We’ve worked with players in the past to help locate databases of historic and iconic locations, so reach out if you’d like to help!

Follow the path with updated Trail Munzee points and more!

Four years ago we released Trail Munzees (after a string of bizarre videos) and now we’re excited to announce a big point and proximity* update for Trail Munzees, Virtual Trail Munzees and Event Trail Munzees! You can find the point breakdown for each type below, as well as some new Trail themed physical products as well. The point updates and new products are all NOW available!

Physical Trail Munzees will be worth many more points than when they were originally released! As you capture the various stops on the Trail Munzee the points you receive will increase as you progress.

  • Stops one and two are worth 50 points for Capture and owner CapOn.
  • Stops three and four are worth 100 points for Capture and owner CapOn.
  • Stop five is worth 300 points for Capture for completing the trail, and 300 points for owner CapOn for creating a good trail.

You will receive 50 points per deploy of a Trail Munzee, but your Trail will not become live until you deploy all five munzees to complete the trail.

We have also reduced the distance required between each stop of the Trail Munzee. Each of the munzees must be deployed within a 5 mile radius of the starting point. Each munzee must be deployed at least 500 ft (previously 1,000 ft) from other Trail Munzees.

Virtual Trail Munzees’ point system has also been updated from when they were originally released! As you cap the Virtual Trail the points you receive will increase as you progress.

  • Stops one and two are worth 15 points for capture and 15 owner cap on.
  • Stop three is worth 30 points for capture and 15 for owner cap on.
  • Stop four is worth 60 points for capture and 15 for owner cap on.
  • Stop five is worth 75 points for capture for completing the virtual trail, and 30 points for owner cap on for creating a good virtual trail that players can complete.

If you choose to continue for stops 6-10 the points will be:

  • Stop six is worth 90 points for capture and 30 owner cap on.
  • Stop seven is worth 125 points for capture and 30 owner cap on.
  • Stop eight is worth 150 points for capture and 50 owner cap on.
  • Stop nine is worth 175 points for capture and 50 owner cap on.
  • Stop ten is worth 200 points for capture and 75 owner cap on.

You will receive 25 points per deploy of a virtual trail Munzee, but your Virtual Trail will not become live until you deploy at least five munzees.

Event Virtual Trails will work similarly to regular Virtual Trails. Since Event Trails are part of an event package there are no Deploy or CapOn points, but the Capture points have been updated to match the Virtual Trail Munzee.

Turn back time with the Evolution Munzee Reset credit!

As more and more Evolution Munzees hit their final levels, we wanted to offer players the opportunity to reset Evos on their own terms. We’re excited to announce new Evo Reset credits that players can use to return their Evos to level one on a case by case basis!

Evo Reset credits are now available in the Freeze Tag Online Store and cost $0.25 each. They can be used once each on individual Evolution Munzees of any type. Our hope is that this option will allow new players the opportunity to cap early levels without owners having to wait on MHQ to do worldwide resets. This will also be a tool for even more CapOn points on munzees you already own!

Similar to past worldwide resets, these new credits will not allow other players to re-cap these munzees again, but the earlier stages will be available to players who have not capped that particular stage.

Using an Evo Reset credit is easy! Since you won’t have to go to the actual Evo’s location, this credit can only be used from your player profile on the Munzee website. Simply go to that Munzee’s details page and you’ll see a button that says “Reset Evolution.” Just click that and you’ll be prompted to use the credit. This will then reset that Evo back to level one!

As we get closer to rolling out Version 4.0 of the app we’ll also be updating the Evo designs to better showcase the current level of that Munzee.  Below are just a sample of the various Evolution Munzees, but you’ll also notice the distinction between physical and virtual munzees as well. A large part of our 4.0 redesigns are to make our gameplay experiences easier to understand for new and veteran players alike. This update is a direct result of a recent suggestion by one of our beta testers!

Roll a STRIKE with new Bowling Ball Capture Badges!

You alleycats ready to hit the lanes? We’ve got three new sets of badges for capturing Bowling Ball Munzees! Remember, Bowling Ball Munzees are a Gaming Line item based on ten-pin bowling. In the mini game you earn points based on how many “pins” you knock down as well as earning STRIKES and/or SPARES.

There are badges for overall captures, number of strikes, and number of spares, with three badges for each line. These badges won’t be easy to come by, but they are retroactive, so your past rolls will count toward these. The badges are now live and available to earn!

Eat healthier in 2019 with a Golden Carrot Munzee!

When we launched the Farm Set of Evolution Munzees in September 2016, Premium Members were awarded a special Golden Carrot Evolution Munzee. Golden Carrots have only been awarded a handful of times, so what better way to kick off a new year of eating healthier?!

On Thursday, January 10 at 23:59 MHQ time, all Premium Members will receive another Gold Carrot Munzee. Remember that there was a point increase for Golden Carrots last year, so it’s definitely a good crop!

As a reminder, the Golden Carrot is a credit that is applied to a generic. This will only be a convert option for uncapped greenies in the first 24 hours after deploy or for never deployed undeploys. When deployed it will grow just like the others, reaching Golden Carrot status in its final stage. You must be a Premium Member when the awarding takes place to receive one.

New Year’s Resolution Streak Badges!

With the new year nearly here, we’ve all got ways we’d like to better ourselves in 2019. Easier said than done, right? Well we know how tough it is to keep up with new year’s resolutions so we’ve put together a rewards system to help keep you on track! How you ask? By capping munzees of course!

We’re excited to announce that starting January 1st we’re launching monthly Capture Streak Badges focused on various New Year’s Resolutions. Similar to the Super Streak badges all you have to do is capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. If you can make it through the whole month you’ll be awarded a badge themed to that month’s resolution goal!

To kick things off we’re all going to try and eat better in January! Look, nobody likes french fries and desserts more than us, but we need a little more greenery in our lives! 

Did you know?

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, just 1 in 10 adults in the US eat the recommended amount of fruit or vegetables? Depending on various factors federal guidelines recommend that adults eat at least 1½ to 2 cups per day of fruit and 2 to 3 cups per day of vegetables.  By having fruits and vegetables in your daily diet you can reduce the risk of many leading causes of illness and death, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and obesity. While some countries may have a better percentage of healthy eaters than the US we know there is always room for improvement!

The more you know, right?!

We know capping a munzee each day won’t magically make you eat better, but we hope as you work towards this capture streak you think about grabbing an apple on your way back! We’re all in this together and if nothing else it will help you get one step closer to the yearlong capture and deploy streak badges. We’ll have a different resolution badge design each month, but try and keep up with your resolutions throughout the year! We believe in you!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees plan ahead!

Announcing The End Of The Recycling Munzee

Despite years of “Going Green” and “Cleaning Up The Map” it’s time to announce the retirement of the Recycle program. Although this initiative to locating missing or uncapped Munzees had great intentions certain limitations have kept it from fulfilling its overall purpose.

To give all of our players a final chance to earn Recycle Badges we’ll celebrate one last round of trash pickup starting NOW until December 31, 2018 at 23:59 MHQ.

Remember that Recycles land on physical munzees that have not been capped in the last 365 days.

The munzees that are affected include:

  • All Physical Jewels
  • Clan Weapons
  • Greenies
  • Physical Mysteries
  • Premium Munzees

As we take Recycles to the curb, rest easy knowing we’re cooking up some great ideas on how to enhance our map maintenance. Here’s a hint… it definitely has something to do with ZeeQRew. No news yet and no promises on anything in the next 1,000 hours, but as always Munzee teaches patience!
