Player of the Week: Sally Hopkins (nuttynan)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Sally Hopkins (nuttynan).

Who are you?
Username – nuttynan, Real Name – Sally Hopkins

Where in the world do you live?
Malvem, UK which is in the middle of the country, and until recently, had very few munzees or active players. That has now changed. ;P

How long have you played Munzee?
Since November 2015.

How did you find Munzee?
Babydane (Sophie Simpson) is an old friend of mine who has played Munzee for many years. When she heard I was giving lectures in Tampa, Florida and various cities in Australia in November and December 2015, she recognised the amazing opportunity I would have to do some serious Munzeeing. So, she introduced me to the basic principles of the game, and off I went as a complete novice to these amazing Munzee locations. What an amazing start I had!

I was truly blessed to meet some very inspirational role models while I was capping those first few weeks. Hunnies and dt07751 very kindly introduced themselves to me while I was capping near the Brandon shopping mall, and we have kept in touch ever since. Hunnies then put me in touch with CrazyLadyLisa in Perth so that when I arrived she traveled 6 hours round trip to meet me and teach me about deploying. Then, she invited me to their Christmas event, and I learned about running an event and Eventzee as well. That was it…. I was totally hooked!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Oh, no question — deploying. I just can’t stop myself! I have always been fascinated with maps and exploring new locations. I look at maps to see loops and patterns that I can use for effective deploying. For instance, the “Rings of Fire” I designed in Pershore, UK which enclose a limited number of easily accessible greenies for the Fire scatters. I just love offering Munzee players great capping experiences and holding events and growing the map. I also love chasing Mythologicals as there are few Munzees for me to capture without traveling 2-3 hours. I have a family of hand puppets and soft toys that I leave a photo on each Myth I cap.

What is on your wish list?
I desperately want to capture and travel more often, buy family commitments mean at present that is difficult to do. Hopefully, this year I can fulfill this wish.

I would really like to see more badges for capping and deploying, particularly capping Greenies and Clan Weapons.

I would also love to have Virtual Fairies flitting around the world, landing on virtuals of the colour of each type of Fairy, Rather than being owned or moving on after being captured, it would be great if they remained to be capped by local players (one cap per player) for say 6-12 hours so that those working could have the time and opportunity to cap them as well. The host of the virtual which the Fairy landed on would get plenty of CapOn points as well.

Tell us about yourself!
I have worked in the dog industry for over 20 years, teaching and lecturing dog trainers and behaviourists around the world. I also invented a world renowned design of dog harness which my company makes and sells worldwide. I am now retired and Munzee almost every day instead.

Other hobbies include:
Walking, chasing Myths, and caring for my dog, husband, and grandkids (in that order lol). I have just been given for my birthday an amazing adult scooter with suspension for added comfort which I plan to use for capping scatters and at events.

Any last words?
I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone in the worldwide Munzee family for their kindness, generosity, and friendship that I have experiences on a daily basis. Whether it be capping one of my deploys or deploying for me to cap, this game brings us closer together wherever we are in the world. And, by the way… yes, I truly am “nutty nan” — my children and grandchildren lovingly call me that on a regular basis <3

6 Million Deployed Munzees!

We’ve reached a new milestone. On April 19th, the 6 Millionth active munzee was deployed in the Netherlands by zoekix!

For the past (almost) six years, we’ve watched Munzee grow in amazing ways. We were thrilled when the 1 Millionth munzee was deployed in January 2014. Three years later, Munzee has reached new heights and is only poised to go higher. For now, though, we’re celebrating what you, our players, have built.

First off, zoekix’s greenie deploy is now a special icon worth 6 points.

We want everyone to get in on the celebration, though, so we’re also going to put out specials using this 6 Million icon!

From 12:00 MHQ time on Friday, April 28th through 12:00 MHQ time on Thursday, May 4th, 600 “6 Millionth Munzee” specials will be bouncing on greenies every 6 hours or when captured, and you WILL be able to capture them on your own munzees. You will receive 20 points for capturing one of these specials, and the owner of the host greenie will earn 17 points.

Thank you so much for your support and help with growing the map. We can’t wait to see the game and community grow even more.

Munzee Referral Program Update: Rewards and Badges

Last week, we introduced Referral Leaderboards and Custom Referral Cards as a part of our Referral Program expansion. We told you to be on the look out for more updates, and the time has come! We’re happy to announce Referral Rewards and Referral Badges!

Referral Rewards

Word of mouth has made the biggest impact on growing the game, and you, our loyal players, are the most important part of that. Your hard work and passion for the game is what helps it grow. We want to thank and reward you for doing this.

There are now two ways to earn gift cards to the Munzee Online Store through the Referral Munzee program: Introductions and Referral Points Earned. Once you hit certain milestones for these two categories, respectively, you will be sent a gift card code.

These milestones are as follows:

Introductions (each must earn a minimum of 1000 points to qualify)

  • 5 Introductions – $5 Gift Code
  • 25 Introductions – $10 Gift Code
  • 100 Introductions – $25 Gift Code
  • 200 Introductions – $50 Gift Code

Referral Points Earned

  • 500 Referral Points Earned – $5 Gift Code
  • 1500 Referral Points Earned – $10 Gift Code
  • 2500 Referral Points Earned – $15 Gift Code
  • 5000 Referral Points Earned – $25 Gift Code

These rewards will be retroactive, so your past hard work in spreading the game will be acknowledged. For example, if you have 58 Introductions and have earned 2704 Referral Points, you will receive $5 and $10 gift codes for Introduction milestones and $5, $10, and $15 codes for Referral Points Earned milestones.

These will begin awarding tomorrow, April 26th at 01:30 MHQ time. If you’ve reached any of the milestones, you will separate receive emails with your respective gift codes.

Referral Badges

Along with the Referral Rewards come Referral Badges. Like the Rewards, the badges are based on Introductions and Referral Points Earned. These badge lines will have to be unlocked one at a time though, so keep sharing your Munzee Referral Code with new players to earn them all!

The first badge for Introductions is the “Business Cards” badge, which you can earn by having 5 Introductions on your Munzee Referral Code.

Business Cards- 5 Introductions

The first badge for Referral Points Earned is the “Flying Standby” badge for earning 500 Referral Points.

Flying Standby – 500 Referral Points Earned

These badges are also retroactive, and will begin awarding tomorrow, April 25th at 10:00 MHQ time.

Referral Page

If you haven’t checked out the Referral Program page on your profile recently, make sure you do! On this page, you can find your Referral code as well as the players you’ve introduced to the game and the number of Referral Points you’ve earned.

We want to thank you for all of your hard work growing the game. You are the backbone of the game and community. With your help, we can make the game bigger and better than ever before!

MHQ is moving offices!

We’re excited to announce that Munzee Headquarters is expanding in a big way! We have upgraded our offices to a much larger space which we will be debuting in grand fashion. The new spot is located at 1720 Bray Central Drive – McKinney, TX 75069, a few miles away from our previous offices.

We know everyone will be eager to deploy around our new office, but we have some big plans in store too! A deploy exclusion zone has been placed over the surrounding area, but this will be readjusted in the near future. There is a small physical exclusion zone around the property so we don’t bother the other tenants in the building.

As everyone knows moving can be a bit tiresome, so we are asking that anyone who wants to visit MHQ hold off until May 12th so we can get ourselves in order (exceptions for those who have already contacted us or have plans in place). Worry not though, because we’re doing it big with an open house!

Join Team Munzee in person for the grand opening of our new offices on May 12th from 2-5 PM MHQ. We will have snacks, prizes, a new MHQ grand opening badge, event indicator pin, and many more surprises!

Be sure to let us know you’ll be joining in the fun at https://calendar.munzee.com/NewMHQ/. We know not everyone can make it to TX though, so we will broadcast live on FB for anyone who can’t attend the ceremony!

Stay tuned for more info about the new space, our grand opening and more soon!

Player of the Week: Anu Sundell (anski)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Anu Sundell (anski).

Who are you?

Hi, my name is Anu, and my player name is anski.

I am a photographer with my own studio. My clientele is mostly children and families. I love my job and have been fortunate to make a dear hobby into a profession.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Kokkola which is a small town in Finland. Even though our town isn’t big, it is one of the most active towns in Finland where Munzee is played. We have a good number of active players.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing since August 2013.

How did you find Munzee?
I found my first QR code in a cache and was very curious to find out what it was. I scanned it with a QR reader and found my answer! Excited as ever, I rushed home to a computer to find out more. In no time, I had my own Munzee profile set up.

At that time, there were only a few greenies on the map, and 100 points in a day was definitely something else! I am one of the first players in the area. Nowadays, there is a good sized group of active players in the area whcih I am super excited about.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Along with my husband (Tomppa71), I am really into Clan Wars. We both are members of the NorthernWestCoast clan. Due to the number of active players in the area, there are other active clans as well which we like to cooperate with. Reaching common goals and getting to know the other players are aspects of the game that I really like. Being in a clan has given me the opportunity to meet numerous new players. Munzee takes you to new places and encourages you to get out and about.

What is on your wish list?
I enjoy the various themed specials that luckily appear on the map rather often. They give added spice to Clan Wars. So, my wish is for Munzee to keep that up. The downside to having multiple active players in a small town is that just about all the poles are taken already. Hence, it would be nice to have a virtual that acted like a greenie. In other words, you would have to be at the location to deploy. With “virtual greenies”, it would be possible to build new trails, e.g. on nature trails. Having the same filters on the website map as in the app would help when planning where to go and what to cap.

Tell us about yourself!
As a Munzee players, I am more into tactics than capping the most possible points. I set up my goals according to Clan War requirements. I mostly play in the vicinity of my hometown, but I do have plans to visit some point heavy areas in the future. Maybe the next vacation destination will be chosen with the help of the Munzee map 😉

Other hobbies include:
During summers, I spend a lot of time in our vacation spot at a camping site in Kalajoki, Finland. As it happens, it is also an active Munzee area. It is also a fantastic site for walking by the sea, admiring gorgeous sunsets. I actually spend most of my free with my dear hobby, Munzee.

Any last words?
I would like to thank those whom nominated me. I am really surprised and excited about this. A great, big thank you to Team Munzee for a great game. Munzee on!

I hope you’re having a lovely April and enjoying the events this month. In the first 2 weeks, over 1600 of you have been to a Tea Party! There are plenty more over the next couple of weeks, and there is still time to host your own if you can’t attend one. Lots of stuff up for grabs with the specials, badges, extra points, Zeeops credits and Emeralds in our new gardens!

I also have some really exciting new products available to events based on what you’ve been asking for. All new items have been added to the Events price list and include:

  • Personal Munzees and T-Shirts featuring your Event Badge
  • Stickers featuring the Event Pin image or your Event Special Icon
  • Coinz featuring the Event Indicator Pin image or your Event Badge

We are most excited about the Coinz and cannot wait to see them out there. We don’t have to wait long though – the first event to have custom made coinz is on 29th April in North Carolina. Matt will be delivering them in person, so go along if you can; it will be an event not to miss!

There are some quite long lead times on a few of the new products so please get your events on the calendar, artwork requests in and we can get rolling!

Munzee Referral Cards

Yesterday, we said there were more updates coming to the Munzee Referral Program, and we’ve got another one for you today: Munzee Referral Cards.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to spread the word about Munzee and be rewarded for doing so. These cards will include your personal Referral code so you can print them out and use as needed. Munzee Referral Cards can be found for free in the Munzee Online Store. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Add the Custom Referral Card to your cart and check out.
  2. After purchase, you will receive three emails: Check out confirmation, shipping confirmation, and a final email that includes a Referral Card with your referral code on it. Note: The final email will be sent to the email address associated with your Munzee account. This may not necessarily be the email you use to check out in the store, so be sure to check that one.
  3. Print out the Custom Referral Card, and start introducing people!

Keep an eye out for more updates coming soon!
