Announcing May Important Information!

Today we have a number of important dates to add to your calendar for May in addition to our Flat Friends schedule! May is a fun month for the world of Munzee, with many additional events on the horizon!

May POTM Criteria

Many Munzee players have been enjoying our revamped Player of the Week program, Player of the Month! Now that May has officially arrived, we are happy to announce the POTM criteria for this month.

The May POTM criteria will award all “Myth Masters.” Anyone who has captured 500 or more uniques of a specific myth (i.e. 500 unique Unicorn Munzees, 500 unique Pegasus Munzees, etc.) will earn the POTM title! If you are only a few captures away, fear not, because you will have until May 28 at 23:59 MHQ time to complete your captures for the chance to earn POTM in May!

QRewsday Schedule

Two weeks ago we announced the creation of QRew, and since then, many players have been reaping the benefits of QRewzee points as they work to help clean up the map. The QRewzee Munzee replaced the former Recycle Munzee, offering 100 Capture points and 10 CapOn points. However, the new icons will only appear on designated QRewsdays. Be sure to mark the following dates so that you can reap the benefits (and badges!) our QRewzee Munzees have to offer! The May QRewsdays are as follows:

  • May 4-6
  • May 9-10
  • May 14-15
  • May 19, May 23, May 25
  • May 28-29

Remember, if you didn’t make QRew (or ZeeQRew) as of 00:01 this morning, you’ll have another chance this month at 00:01 MHQ time on May 15!

Munzee Mania

Flat Robs will be hitting the map this weekend, as real Rob will be out of office for Munzee Mania! This weekend long Minnesota event will see a whole host of Munzee players attending from Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5. The player hosted weekend in the Twin Cities will feature the following four events:

  1. Meet ‘n Greet on May 3 from 18:00 to 22:00 at Culinary on North Food Court
  2. Main Event on May 4 from 10:00 to 15:00 at Blackhawk Park
  3. Pizza Party on May 4 from 18:00 to 21:00 at Pizza Ranch
  4. Bagels & Coffee on May 5 from 9:30 to 10:30 at Bruegger’s Bagels

Check out the calendar for a complete listing of player run events! Will you be seeing Rob in Minnesota this weekend?

Munzee Mistakes: Introduction to ZeeOps and Clan Wars

After sharing a variety of tips that covered many aspects of gameplay, such as deploying and capping munzees, this week we’re exploring two areas of everyone’s favorite real world scavenger hunt that new players may be entirely unfamiliar with. We’re talking about ZeeOps and Clan Wars, which offer the chance for competitive gameplay with both yourself and others, respectively. Read on to discover more about Munzee competitive play and hear what tips and tricks fellow players have to share to help you enjoy all that Munzee has to offer!

Are you interested in competitive gameplay with yourself? ZeeOps might be the answer for you! Feel like a secret agent by taking on monthly Missions that range in difficulty levels and require a variety of Munzee skills to conquer. Complete your Missions within the required amount of time to unlock treasures! Every month new Operations will be released, including confidential information related to each month’s Mission. In order to start ZeeOps, you’ll need to earn some ZeeCred, which you can pick up in the Freeze Tag Online Store. You will be able to earn more credits through completing operations.

Is competitive gameplay with others more your speed? Join a clan and compete in monthly Clan Wars with members of your team! Clans are formed with ten players, with the opportunity to use the Clan Randomizer button to find a spot in a clan from 00:01 MHQ time on the first of each month through 23:59 MHQ time on the second of each month if you need help joining. Clan Wars criteria will be released at the end of each month for the upcoming month, with all Clan Battles starting on the third and lasting for the duration of the month. The monthly requirements will vary, but they largely include both individual and group components needed to be achieved in order to move up between the five levels. That means a clan is often only as strong as its weakest link, though many clans only aspire to reach a certain level each month.

Below are 32 tips offered by fellow players. Munzee may provide some fierce competition, but that doesn’t mean that plenty of players aren’t here to help every step of the way!

Clan Wars & ZeeOps Tips and Tricks

Tip #1: Take advantage of both Clan Wars and ZeeOps to earn credits and specials. Then place the munzees you earn near your home or work to increase your odds of attracting Bouncers. (KLC)

Tip #2: If you are a newbie to Munzee, don’t cap everything that is around you when you first start playing. You will need some convenient caps to meet the requirements for Clan Wars and for ZeeOps. (Bossmanlee)

Tip #3: Start “Clan Warring” and “ZeeOpsing” as soon as possible. It’s easier to fill requirements before you’ve capped everything in your city. Plus you’ll get credits to make your area more appealing to other players. (Aukush)

Tip #4: For ZeeOps, start with the Cadet level. It is fun and easy and a great way to introduce you to Ops and how it works. Plus you get enough ZeeCreds from completing the operation to try a Basic Level! (5Star)

Tip #5: If you’re doing a level 2+ ZeeOp and one of the available missions of the month is to have 500 or 1,000 cap-on points, schedule that on a Saturday or Sunday. That’s when most people are capping munzees (either at events or on their own). (pikespice)

Tip #6: Set a reminder for ZeeOps so you don’t forget. (qdog)

Tip #7: I love ZeeOps, because you can do some little personal challenges each day and get credits for them! I add the daily requirements to my reminders on my calendar so I don’t forget. (jellybean88)

Tip#8: Always wear sunglasses while doing ZeeOps… this makes you feel like a secret agent. ? (Jerzee)

Tip #9: Cluster your deploys — have pockets of jewels, zodiacs, elementals, etc. This will help attract players doing ZeeOps! (Leese Philip)

Tip #10: If you wonder how to try a longer operation or use the Mission Mulligan in the very beginning, you can win ZeeCreds on Prize Wheels, and you get some each month as a gift for being Premium Member. (xwusel)

Tip #11: If you are able, attend events to meet some friendly faces and have a chance to learn more about the game. Bonus tip: participate in some basic ZeeOps to earn a fun variety of new munzees to deploy. (beckiweber)

Tip #12: Remember that there is the Mulligan whereby you are allowed to fix one day’s failed operation at the cost of 25 Zeecred. But this doesn’t apply for the last day of the mission! (stebu)

Tip #13: You can win ZeeCreds by capping Prize Wheel Munzees. (BrianMoos)

Tip #14: Remember that Clan Wars don’t start until the 3rd day of the month. If you are doing a ZeeOp and are in a clan, you can consider not starting your ZeeOp before the 3rd. There is no reason for all the ZeeOps hard work to go to waste and not do double duty and count for the clan as well. (3Blanchards)

Tip #15: Consider joining a clan. It makes you part of a team with a common goal, and it teaches discipline when capping so you don’t just go around capping everything. (fsafranek)

Tip #16: Try to join a clan! Clan members are a mine of information and encouragement. Joining a clan also helps you realize that many other quite normal people enjoy scanning lampposts! (Thegenie18)

Tip #17: Join a low level clan to start. (TheFoods)

Tip #18: Join a clan and have a clan group chat page! It really helps all clan members with things like deploying virtuals near clan mates. It is great to have help with all things Munzee and have a general Munzee chat with fellow players. (lolbot)

Tip #19: Join the Munzee team sport that is Clan Wars. Once you understand the requirements, don’t cap everything in a 10 mile radius in your first week! (Section42)

Tip #20: In Clan Wars, if CapOn points are counted that month, consider focusing on capping the munzee’s deployed by your teammates to help their points increase as well. This will help the overall points of the clan. If you live in an area with few munzees, encourage your team to build the map locally so all will have points to obtain. This will also attract new and traveling players. (FindersGirl)

Tip #21: Not all clans aspire to reach Level 5, but different clans have different goals. Be ready to do 1/10 of the requirements before committing to a certain level in a clan, unless you agreed otherwise. (halizwein)

Tip #22: Choose a level in Clan Wars that you are comfortable playing to keep it fun. (YMHgra)

Tip #23: For Clan Wars, pick what level you can complete 10% of clan goals and what level you can complete just the personal requirements, and let potential clans know both levels you feel comfortable with. Some clans may not care if you can do 10%; others may require it. (technical13)

Tip #24: You can find a clan suitable for your level in the Facebook group “Munzee Clan Transfer Market.” (Justinas Rumcikas)

Tip #25: At the end of the day, remember that you are playing a game. Yes, people can get competitive, and it’s fun to win, but it’s more important to enjoy yourself and celebrate small victories when you’re engaging in Clan Wars or ZeeOps! (violetblonde)

Tip #26: Get above your individual requirements to help your clan mates if you can! Remember you are playing with a team. (Faby)

Tip #27: If you run a clan, create a Facebook page for easy communication. If you join a clan with a Facebook page, make sure you join the page as well to keep up with clan requirements. (Orky99)

Tip #28: Be social on Facebook and with your clan mates. Your fellow players will be glad to help you meet your goals. (Kermit450)

Tip #29: Communication is key. Talk to your clan mates! (Sportytaxi)

Tip #30: Once you have chosen your Clan Wars Level, communication is the key! A number of clans have set up a private Facebook group to facilitate good clan communication. (EagleDadandXenia)

Tip #31: For Clan Wars, having clan mates in different areas can help with clan POB, TOB, and MOB requirements. (Belboz)

Tip #32: Play the game the way you like it. Whether you do Clan Wars or ZeeOps, deploy only physicals or only virtuals, that is up to you. Start the game the way you like it most, and if you still enjoy it after a month or so, branch out deeper into the game. It can be overwhelming if you try to learn it all at once. (Reart)

Quick PinPoints Update!

Calling all Clans!

If you were paying attention you may have seen a test screen teased this afternoon, but remember patience is a virtue!

We know you’re all excited to learn more about PinPoints and what they mean for Clan Wars requirements in May. It also applies to one of your rewards (in store credit) from April Clan Wars. We’ve put together an FAQ about various aspects of this new loyalty program, which can be found on the Munzee Help Guide. We’re not revealing everything just yet, but this should hopefully give you an idea of what to expect.

Check out the PinPoints FAQ here:
https://munzee.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027745271-PinPoints-Loyalty-Program-FAQ

We had every intention of launching this program earlier in April, but unfortunately third party issues out of our control have caused some rather unexpected delays. We want to make sure this launch is a success though so we’re taking every step to make sure it’s ready for you all!

Thank you for your patience, we hope the competitive spirit of Clan Wars along with this new reward system drives another great month!

Update: Boogie Woogie Garden was created by destrandman. Congratulations, destrandman!

2019 is already one-third complete, and it’s time to reward two more of our outstanding Virtual Garden builders! For the last four months, we have been asking for Garden of the Month nominations in order to award players for their exceptional Virtual Garden organizing skills. Not only will all GOTM organizers win special badges, but we will also award our GOTM badges to all players who deployed in winning gardens. At times Munzee can be a team effort, and we appreciate all of the group efforts to create such fun and beautiful gardens for all to enjoy!

For our April Gardens of the Month, we’re happy to award the Butterfly Garden, organized by none other than Goofybutterfly, and Boogie Woogie, organized by destrandman. Congrats to both of these Virtual Garden builders, as well as to all who deployed in their winning gardens! You can view the winning gardens below:

True, competitive play can sometimes make Munzee stressful, but the Boogie Woogie garden reminds us that at the end of the day, Munzee is a game centered around fun! We how this Dutch garden champions fun vibes above all else.

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges!

Rules and Regulations

Do you know a garden deserving of the title of May GOTM? We’re asking for players to submit already created gardens for the chance to win any of our upcoming Garden(s) of the Month! Just be sure to follow the rules!

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Send your nomination for GOTM to iloveyou@munzee.com! Bear in mind that we take all former nominations into consideration for upcoming months. Just be sure your garden follows the nomination rules in order to be considered eligible!

If you need help deploying in a Virtual Garden, you can check out this step-by-step tutorial that will making deploying in a garden easy no matter how long you’ve been playing. To fill in the gardens, make sure to stock up on Virtuals and Color Credits from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

May Resolutions Badge Details

How has 2019 been treating you so far? If it hasn’t been your year to shine, fear not, because there are still eight months left for positive growth and change! Our monthly Capture Streak Badges have been centered around a year of personal improvement, bringing us the resolution to eat healthy (January), make new friends (February), explore new hobbies (March), and get organized (April). Summer is fast approaching on the Northern Hemisphere, and our May Resolutions badge is to travel more!

Each month’s badge is dedicated to accomplishing a different New Year’s Resolution. Like our Super Streak badges, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one Munzee* each day for the entire month. Each month provides the opportunity to put your best foot forward, so if you’re new to the game or accidentally missed a day, there’s no time like the present to get started on your streaks!

Traveling Tips

Many people plan to travel, but then this crazy thing happens. Life gets in the way. Traveling can be a financial burden for many, and big vacations can often take years to plan and save up. However, you only get one life to live, and that life should be filled with happy adventure! Traveling doesn’t have to mean flying around the world; it can involve simply getting into your car and driving to a town nearby that you haven’t explored. It can even involve venturing to new places in your town!

Break the routine of prosaic living and allow yourself the chance to experience more of what the world has to offer. Traveling allows for the chance to experience new walks of life, expand your perspective, and meet new people along the way. Learn how to travel the smart way with budget friendly tips. Rather than rent expensive hotels, take advantage of room renting services, such as Airbnb, to save money. This will also allow you the opportunity to select lodging with a kitchen so that you can save money on dining out! Shopping local and preparing meals will save you a lot of money while away from home.

Many plan vacations for the summer, but traveling in the off-season is almost always a guaranteed way to save money. You can also cut down on expenses by traveling with friends or family, in order to split costs, or by traveling to where you know people. Though you might be tempted to stop for mementos, gift shops and general shopping should be avoided in order to save big bucks. The memories you make should be more than enough, and the less you purchase, the more you’ll be able to travel in the future. Lastly, always try to do some online searching pre-trip to scout out the best deals in the area you’re heading to.

Still don’t think you’ll be able to squeeze a trip in? Luckily you still have Munzee, a real world scavenger hunt that is all about exploration! Remember you can always set up Trail Munzees to lead other players down paths worth exploring in your neighborhood!

Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

April POTM Recognizes Top Munzee Hosts!

We asked, you answered! Our April Player(s) of the Month criteria called for players to nominate the “host with the most” for the chance to earn the POTM title. While our past POTM have seen a wide berth of players awarded for their Munzee contributions, we decided to narrow down our April POTM finalists to include players with the most votes. However, we’d like to make it clear that many hosts and cohosts were nominated, and we appreciate all players who take the time and effort to host Munzee events and bring players together. With nearly 200 nominations, it’s clear that many players feel the exact same way!

Of course we needed our Global Events Manager Louise to help weigh in on the many nominations. Congratulations to the following players who were both nominated and hand-selected by Louise to be the April Players of the Month:

Remember, anyone who earned the Player Of The Week badge previously IS able to earn the Player Of The Month badge as well! Each month we announce a different set of criteria to award some of the many players who make Munzee so great. Stay tuned for our May POTM criteria announcement! Who knows, you might just be a winner. ?

What was the best Munzee event you ever attended? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram! Thanks to all who sent us their nominations, and a big thank you to each and every one of you who have hosted or co-hosted an event. And if you’re looking for the chance to get together with a bunch of players and earn some extra points, remember Munzee’s birthday is on the horizon! And it’s not a birthday without a party! ?

Congratulations, and Munzee on!

Earth Day Flash Sale and Planet Protection Tips!

Happy Earth Day from MHQ! To celebrate the day, we’re offering 22 percent off on all Earth Mystery Munzees for Earth Day, starting today at 15:00 MHQ time and lasting until 15:00 MHQ time tomorrow. You can stop by the Freeze Tag Online Store to shop this sale, and check out our Elemental Mystery Help Guide article for more information about Earth Mystery Munzees.

Last year, we had the pleasure of working with players to help plant 10,000 trees through the Earth Day Network‘s Canopy Project thanks to our Earth Day fundraiser! Players helped raise the money to accomplish this awesome feat through the sale of Earth Day Evolution Munzees and Earth Day personal tags. It was our pleasure to work with players to assist the goals of the Canopy Project, an organization that focuses on strengthening communities through tree planting.

With so many exciting projects in the works, we unfortunately didn’t have the time to plan any Earth Day fundraisers this year. However, we would still like to take the chance to share simple everyday ways you can improve and preserve our wonderful planet. Munzee is a real world scavenger hunt, and Freeze Tag places great value on preserving the outdoors and protecting the Earth. We love hearing about how eco-friendly so many of our players are, and we hope the following tips can help raise awareness about how to care for our planet!

20 Tips for Protecting the Planet:

1. Follow in the footsteps of our Worldwide Events Manager Louise and bike more, drive less!

2. Cut down on meat and animal product intake. This doesn’t mean going vegetarian or vegan, just reducing the amount of animal products you consume. Try to have a weekly “vegetarian day” to dramatically reduce the amount of natural resources used to produce meat.

3. Reduce, reuse, recycle! This mantra should be a lifestyle. Be wary of the amount of waste you accumulate.

4. Plant a tree! This is a simple yet impactful way to improve the planet.

5. Purchase second hand items to reduce packing materials while also saving your money.

6. Be mindful of the products you use. Choose non-toxic chemicals so that you aren’t polluting the waterways.

7. Don’t waste paper products. Be conscious of how many tissues or napkins you take and how much paper towel and toilet paper you use. Only select as much as you need. Additionally, try to keep your business paperless and don’t waste notepads. Remember to recycle paper products.

8. Recycle your newspapers and junk mail. Rather than throw away unwanted or used paper items, such as newspapers and junkman, recycle them. You can also look into cancelling unwanted newspaper services and junk mail subscriptions.

9. Invest in energy efficient lightbulbs to cut down on greenhouse emissions, and be mindful of how many lights you leave on.

10. Be sensible about how you do your laundry. Consider using a clothesline to save power while drying your clothes. (This will also help them last longer!) Wait until your laundry is full to wash. Avoid doing half loads of laundry, and consider switching to a warm cycle rather than hot.

11. Be a smart shopper! Carry reusable bags wherever you go. Just say no to plastic.

12. Shower more, bathe less. Baths can be relaxing, but try to cut down on time spent in the tub since baths use approximately twice as much water as showers.

13. Conserve your water usage. The less water you use, the less wastewater will end up in the ocean.

14. Cut down on shower time. As little as two minutes of reduced shower time can make an enormous difference in water conservation.

15. Buy local produce when you are able to in order to cutdown on pollution that occurs when transporting goods long distance.

16. Get involved in community cleanups. Volunteer work is invaluable to Earth conservation.

17. Save your energy use (and cut down on your energy bill) by adjusting the temperature in your home and using a timer system for when you are out.

18. Use a travel mug for your daily beverage. This is an easy way to cut down on waste every day.

19. Pay your bills online to reduce the amount of paper waste you acquire. You can also cancel your paper bank statements and work on staying digital.

20. Educate those around you in a friendly manner. Help them understand why it’s important to value natural resources and how they can do so.

Thanks to National Ocean Service and 50 Ways to Help for helping us compile these important tips!

Happy Earth Day, and Munzee on!

A new Munzee app update has just been released, featuring new capabilities for Booster Credits and QRew! This over the air update is now live, so check it out!

Booster Credits

Since our Urban Fit Munzee launched three weeks ago, players have been earning special Physical Deploy Booster Credits each time they cap/deploy 15 Urban Fit Munzees within a MHQ 24-hour day. While these credits have been available to be earned, they have not been able to be used. Today we are happy to announce the much-anticipated Booster Credit update that enables players to put their hard-earned credits to use!

That’s right, you are able to become Positively Charged at a time of your own choosing! To learn how to use the Booster Credit, we put together the helpful video below. For all information about Munzee Booster Credits, you can also check out our Booster Credit Help Guide article.

To activate a Booster Credit, first go to your player profile. You will find your available Booster Credits under the “Inventory” tab. Click on the Booster Credit you would like to use. Whenever you’re ready, click the “Activate” button to start.

We understand how valuable map space is, so if you’d prefer to hide the Booster timer you can do so on the Booster Credit page. To hide the timer, simply click on the icon to go back to the Booster Credit page, and toggle the switch to remove the timer from the map. Keep in mind that you can always show the timer again by going back to the Booster Credits page through the Inventory section in the Profile. The page will also show you how many credits you have in stock.

As a reminder, the Physical Deploy Booster Credit allows you to become “positively charged” and receive double points on all physical deploys for the next 120 minutes. That includes ALL types of physical munzees, PLUS you get to choose when to activate the Physical Deploy Booster! This special feature will allow you to time the perfect deploy streak to really multiply your points. AND…as of right now, Hadavale captures will give a booster credit instead of instantly making your account become positively charged!

There’s nothing like a double points opportunity to kickstart a happy weekend! You also might notice that some new types of Booster Credits are coming soon… so keep patient!

QRew:

The latest update also gives players who have earned the QRew title the ability to replace munzees. To avoid confusion, QRew titles have been updated for clarity. A mini-map has also been added to the compass screen, which only displays the munzee you currently have selected.

We hope all of these updates are met with player satisfaction! We are constantly working on advancing the game to make it as fun and up to date as possible. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements! There are lots of exciting projects on the horizon that we can’t wait to share!

Munzee on!
