Munzee Newsletter: July 2017 Wrap-Up

Birthday month has come and gone and with the help of our players we celebrated six years in a very big way! Take a look back on some of the things that happened last month and what to expect this month as well!

We ended Birthday Month with some HUGE news: Munzee and our partner Freeze Tag Inc. are merging companies! For the last year, Munzee and Freeze Tag have been working together in various ways on Garfield GO! and as the saying goes “two heads are better than one.” The leadership team at Freeze Tag are top notch guys with vast experience in building apps and bringing in new players.

We are excited to see their team join the Munzee family and help us all Grow the Game(s)!

Birthday BAM!

To celebrate 6 spectacular years, we released Comic Book special icons for the entire month. When captured the specials scattered three onomatopoeia icons- BAM!, POW! and BANG! Players who managed to capture all 3 were able to earn a special comic book panel badge too!

These alongside the Munzee Magnets were an awesome way to kick off Birthday Month!

Extraordinary Events

Birthday Events were a huge hit last month! There were 110 events that took place throughout July and the 6th Birthday Super Rob special was capped an amazing 4,673 times! We also reached new highs with the events in Germany being the first to hit over 250 attendees, something we haven’t even done at MHQ! Thank you to all of our awesome Event Hosts!

Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Last month we were proud to announce that Places Munzeesare now available to the public for purchase! Now players can deploy their own Airports, Sports Stadiums, Wildlife and Museum munzees all across the world.

A Breath of Fresh Air

At the tailend of Birthday Month we were proud to announce the creation of the Air Mystery Munzee! This virtual Elemental Munzee is the first of it’s kind and is currently exclusive to Virtual MunzPak subscribers in August. When capped, the Air Mystery Munzee scatters three temporary virtual Feathers. When those feathers are captured, they have a chance of throwing three ultra rare temporary virtual Golden Feathers.

Munzee and Freeze Tag Merger

I’d like to communicate a new step in the evolution of Munzee Inc. Before I go any further I’d like to assure everyone, the Munzee family of games (Munzee, WallaBee, Eventzee) you’ve come to know and love will remain the same, if not better. Now that we are clear on that topic I’d like to give you some information on a formal merger of Munzee Inc. and Freeze Tag Inc.

For the last year, Munzee and Freeze Tag have been working together in various ways on Garfield GO! The app is powered, in part, by worldwide Munzee locations deployed by you, our amazing players. Many ideas incorporated into current gameplay are adapted from suggestions provided during early testing by Munzee players. The leadership team at Freeze Tag are top notch guys with vast experience in building apps and bringing in new players. We are excited to see their team join the Munzee family and help us all Grow the Game(s)!

The main reasoning behind the merger is the old saying, “two heads are better than one”. Both companies have done quite a bit of work together and we both believe we are stronger together than separate. In addition to key leadership, Freeze Tag brings experience in licensing deals, having provided the contact that brought the virtual Garfield trail in Muncie Indiana, in the Munzee app.

It would be completely wrong for me not to recognize the work Aaron, Scott, Chris, and Josh did to found this game, in July 2011. Without their idea and tireless (unpaid) work from day one none of us would be playing this game we all love so much. I’m thankful for the opportunity Aaron gave me 5 years ago to start as player and business relations. I felt at home and have loved every minute as the Chief Everything Officer, but it’s time for Munzee to grow beyond my individual knowledge and training.

October 4th will be 4 years since I took over as President, and I’m excited to expand that role into a larger company. I will be President of the newly merged company, and the best part is, I get to return to my passion; ideas, gameplay, community, and making a difference in the lives of our team and collective communities.

The future for the game of Munzee is so bright, with continued focus on WallaBee and Eventzee as well. We also look forward to working on AR components, and additional location-based advertising. All of these things fall in line with the direction we’ve been moving on our own, but we expect to accelerate the pace with our upcoming merged family.

Thank you to all of our players for standing by our side and growing the game over the last six years. As we embark on this new adventure, we’re excited for all of the future possibilities you have helped make reality.

ZeeOps: August Missions

Agents, despite our best attempts to keep this confidential, Director Zee is missing. After being replaced by the Dictator last month, his whereabouts have become unknown. Despite his absence, it’s up to ZeeOps Agents worldwide to continue their missions and protect the world.

Random archaic weapons shipments have begun popping up all over the world. You’ll need to investigate this by capturing and deploying Clan Weapon Munzees throughout the month.

The Clan Weapons that have begun to pop up all over the world may contain a hidden message from Director Zee. As a collector of weaponry of all sorts, Director Zee may be using these weapon deploys as a communication tactic. It is up to you to save Director Zee from whomever holds his fate.

August ZeeOps Operations are now live and you can begin planning your Missions to start on the following day. You can plan your Operations at munzee.com/ops/ and purchase more ZeeCred in the Munzee Online Store. You can also track your Missions in the new Munzee app update.

This month’s Missions are as follows:

LEVEL 1

Basic Training +- Earn at least 1,000 points.
Defensive Training- Deploy at least 10 munzees.
Offensive Training- Capture at least 25 munzees.
Back To Barbarianism I- Deploy at least 10 Clan Weapons of any kind.
Back To Barbarianism II- Capture at least 25 Clan Weapons of any kind.

LEVEL 2:

Group Training +- Earn at least 1,000 CapOn points.
Weaponized- Capture at least 15 Clan Weapons and deploy at least 5 Clan Weapons of any kind.
A Study In Swords- Capture at least 40 Clan Weapons of any kind.
Axe And You Shall Receive- Deploy at least 25 Clan Weapons of any kind.
Virtual Surreality- Capture at least 100 virtual munzees of any type.

LEVEL 3:

Advanced Training- Earn at least 10,000 points.
Always Aware- Deploy at least 50 physical munzees of any type.
CLANdestine- Deploy at least 40 Clan Weapons of any kind.
First Is The Worst- Capture at least 50 Clan Weapons of any kind.
Virtual Virus 2- Capture at least 250 virtual munzees of any type.

LEVEL 4:

Expert Training- Earn at least 50,000 points.
At The Helm- Deploy at least 100 greenies.
Armory Amendments- Deploy at least 60 Clan Weapons of any kind.
The First- Capture at least 75 Clan Weapons and deploy at least 35 Clan Weapons of any kind.
Co-Founding Fathers- Capture at least 250 physical type munzees.

Completing Operations will give you some hard earned rewards as well.

This month’s rewards are:

Basic Op
Rewards: 1 MVM, 2 Diamond Munzees, 1 Ruby Munzee, 1 Virtual Color, and 5 ZeeCred

Advanced Op

Record Breaking Weekend!

Now that’s how you celebrate Birthday month!

Thanks to the might of our players we broke numerous Munzee records this weekend! With Matt and Rob attending events both nationally and internationally, and the rest of the team on deck we were ready for a big weekend, but once again our players have taken it to the next level.

On Saturday we clocked in an AMAZING 1,002,986 captures in a single day! The rest of the weekend was just as crazy with 511,567 on Friday and 789,303 on Sunday totaling over two million captures all weekend! We can’t even begin to show our gratitude to the players worldwide for helping us hit this milestone.

We also saw our largest Munzee Events EVER this weekend. Germany was the place to be with three events all with over 200 attendees! Saturday’s event in Bielefeld, Germany had 261 event indicator captures which is the largest event a Munzee player has ever hosted. We’ll need to step up our game for MHQ Bash! Rob will certainly have plenty to say about his European adventures when he gets back, so stay tuned to hear more.

We’d like to extend a BIG thank you to Scott, Daniel and the tech team for handling this huge weekend with zero downtime. As many of you know we’re always working hard to better our infrastructure, and tests like this showcase how far we’ve come.

Munzee Artwork Posters!

One of the many great things about Munzee is the never-ending supply of unique, sometimes absurd, artwork that our designers continue to churn out day after day. The many different styles of our graphic designers have become a hallmark of the game so we’re excited to be able to offer some of those pieces as posters in the online store.

Currently we have a handful of designs including the ZeeOps Mission Icons, the completed Birthday Comic Panel and Timeshare Munzee badges. We’d love for more suggestions about your favorite Munzee, WallaBee and Eventzee artwork though, so let us know!

Posters come in a variety of sizes and prices, so whether you’re decorating your office or your home there’s a fit for you!

Munzee Newsletter: June 2017 Wrap-Up

We spent a lot of June preparing for Birthday month in July, but we were happy to make some big announcements too. Take a look back on some of the things that happened last month and what to expect this month as well!

Version 3.3.3 of the Munzee app was released in June. Make sure you have the most up to date version at the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

New Features/Fixes:

– We’ve added an in-app ZeeOps dashboard to track your operations.
– The main menu now features accompanying icons for all entries.
– Badge details now show the original description even after a badge has been earned.
– The coin discover request popup will now only show as toast message (transparent at the bottom) when not on the coins page.
– Improved scanner (focus issues for some phones are fixed)
– Minor fixes and improvements

Just Add Water!

The floodgates have opened and the latest Elemental Munzee is now for sale- Welcome the Water Mystery Munzee!

This physical munzee type may hold the key to the Fountain of Youth, but it is not without its risks. When you cap the scattered water droplet you have the chance of drinking pure water, toxic water or salt water!

Virtual Reality

Wouldn’t it be great if you could easily swap out old virtual munzees in popular destinations for newer virtuals worth more points? Well now you can with the new Virt Swap tool! Using the Munzee website you can now go back to your older virtual type munzees and swap in new virtual types and MVMs.

Opposites Attract

Can you feel the attraction? In June we revealed the Munzee Magnets as a part of July Physical MunzPaks! These brand new items are temporary credits you can use to attract Seasonal Specials and Mythological Munzees for a set amount of time. It’s easy, you just Magnetize a greenie of your choosing and that munzee will then attract up to 3 specials or myths for up to one hour!

Garfield GO

Munzee was proud to work with our partner Freeze Tag to launch Garfield GO this month!

Garfield GO is a brand new augmented reality treasure hunting game, featuring everyone’s favorite lasagna-loving cat! Odie has scattered Garfield’s comic collection and buried treasures around the world — Help Garfield get them all back, while scavenging for hidden chests along the way!

The game is currently available in Australia, Canada, and the US via the App store and Google Play.

ZeeOps: July Missions

Agents, due to your hard work in June the contaminated outlier strain of Evolution Munzees has been controlled. Despite investigations into what caused the issue, there have been few leads as to who was behind the leak. ZeeOps Agents must focus on forward though, so prepare for this month’s Operations.

Since the leaders of the Mean Green Gang have seemingly all been eradicated Director Zee has kicked off a probation program for former MGG members. The program has been named “Going Green.” He has requested that ZeeOps agents worldwide begin rounding up Mean Greenies to present them the opportunity to join forces. The program has been met with some resistance from both ZeeOps agents and former Mean Green Gang operatives though, so be careful.

July ZeeOps Operations are now live and you can begin planning your Missions to start on the following day. You can plan your Operations at munzee.com/ops/ and purchase more ZeeCred in the Munzee Online Store. You can also track your Missions in the new Munzee app update.

This month’s Missions are as follows:

Flat Robs in June & July

We thought it would be nice to update everyone on a few upcoming times Rob will be out of the office, and therefore Flat Rob will be coming out to play! The July dates will give everyone a chance to plan ahead. We hope everyone enjoys seeing Flat Rob on the map. Stay tuned for more announcements soon about some *events you’ll be able to meet him (and Matt) at. Flat Robs may appear in the store sporadically during these times with no warning or additional blog posts. Additional dates for FR (and FM) to join the map are still being worked on for July and August! (Maybe more in June too?)

Munzee Newsletter: May 2017 Wrap-Up

In May Munzee was busy moving into our new offices, but that’s not to say we didn’t keep our players busy too. Take a look back on some of the things that happened last month and what to expect this month as well!

We’ve spent the last couple months getting the ALL NEW Munzee Headquarters up and running! We have upgraded our offices to a much larger space which is ideal for our constantly growing staff. The new building is located just a few miles from our previous headquarters too, so we still get to call McKinney, TX home.

Some of our players helped us break in the new location with our MH-New Open House event and they even got to see us monkeying around first hand!

Flat Matt Has Hit The Map!

In November 2015 Flat Rob was released and he’s been traveling the world ever since. All that travel can be a bit lonely though, so we’re excited to release a similarly two-dimensional friend- Flat Matt!

Although Flat Rob comes out to play when Rob is traveling, Flat Matts will be live on the map during days with specific sporting events.

Hail Hydra

The Hydra is the latest Mythological Munzee, and the second in our Classical Myth line. Not much is known about this many-headed beast, although it is said to guard the fabled Fountain Of Youth.

Victorious Vacation

The new Timeshare Munzee is the latest in our Destination line of munzees alongside the Motel, Hotel and Virtual Resort. This physical credit item features 5 Rooms so the first 5 players to cap the Timeshare get a room deployed. Here’s the kicker though, Rooms only stay deployed for 30 days!

Totally Tubular Turtles

To celebrate World Turtle Day on May 23rd, Munzee released turtle specials from May 19th through the 28th. These shell-shocking specials were a big hit and helped raise awareness about our slow-crawling friends.

ZeeOps: June Missions

Agents, your hard work in May has paid off and the final factions of the Mean Green Gang have been dismantled. Although we’re always on the lookout for another uprising, it seems the reign of the Mean Green Gang has ended. The enemy has fallen, but your work is not done.

ZeeOps Scientists have started developing an evolutionary strain of munzees. These Evolution Munzees, also known as Evos, come in many forms. We’re still in the testing phase, but we need our agents to see how these Evos react in the real world. It is up to you to capture and deploy a variety of these Evos for the sake of science.

June ZeeOps Operations are now live and you can begin planning your Missions to start on the following day. You can plan your Operations at munzee.com/ops/ and purchase more ZeeCred in the Munzee Online Store.

This month’s Missions are as follows:

LEVEL 1:
Basic Training + – Earn at least 1,000 points.
Defensive Training- Deploy at least 10 munzees.
Offensive Training- Capture at least 25 munzees.
Evolutionary Studies I- Deploy at least 5 physical or virtual Evolution Munzees.
Evolutionary Studies II- Capture at least 10 physical or virtual Evolution Munzees.

Evolution Examination – Capture at least 5 different types of physical or virtual Evolution Munzees. NOTE capturing different levels of the same type of Evo will not count toward this mission.

Developmental Deploys – Deploy at least 10 Evolution Munzees.
Virtual Surreality- Capture at least 100 virtual munzees of any type.

LEVEL 3:
Advanced Training- Earn at least 10,000 points.
Always Aware- Deploy at least 50 physical munzees of any type.
Interrogation Practices- Capture at least 100 greenies.
Virtual Virus- Capture at least 500 virtual munzees of any type.
A Missing Link- Capture at least 25 physical or virtual Evolution Munzees AND deploy at least 10 physical or virtual Evolution Munzees.

LEVEL 4:
Expert Training- Earn at least 50,000 points.
Laboratory On The Loose!- Capture at least 50 physical or virtual Evolution Munzee.
Evolution Emergency- Deploy at least 25 physical or virtual Evolution Munzees.
Reconnaissance- Deploy at least 100 physical munzees of any type.
Hit The Streets- Capture at least 250 physical type munzees.

Completing Operations will give you some hard earned rewards as well.

This month’s rewards are:

Basic Op
Rewards: 1 ruby, 1 MVM, 2 virtuals, 3 virtual colors, with 5 Zee Creds

Advanced Op
Rewards: 1 scatter, 2 ruby, 2 MVM, 1 diamond, 2 virtual colors, with 10 Zee Creds

Mega Op
Rewards: 2 ruby, 2 diamond, 2 MVM, 2 scatter, 1 sapphire, 2 virtual colors, with 25 Zee Creds
