March Garden Gnome Reminder + April Preview!

As the month comes to a close, we wanted to make sure you were heading into April with your desired Garden Gnomes! The skin for completing your March capture streak (and the corresponding badge) will be awarded in early April, but we couldn’t wait to share what’s in store!

March Garden Gnome Reminders

If you haven’t picked up a Garden Gnome yet, they are available in the Freeze Tag Store for $10.

Each month, the price of a Garden Gnome will decrease by $1. However, players can only purchase 1 Garden Gnome every 28 days.

If you’re planning to complete the capture streaks for each month (and made the initial purchase in January) you’ll have 12 different skins to choose from! So be sure to purchase one each month so you can have a complete bench of these athletic Garden Gnomes!

We also released special Reseller Garden Gnomes earlier in the month — if you’re interested, you can check out our blog post on them HERE!

April Garden Gnome Details

What Gnome Skin can you look forward to receiving in April? The highly motivated Running Garden Gnome! Like the other gnomes, the Running Garden Gnome is a temporary POB that will remain on the map until 23:59 MHQ on December 31.

As stated earlier, to earn this skin, you’ll need to have completed this month’s (March’s) capture streak. Once the skin is awarded in April, you can change the skin on the gnome to this one at any point — refer to our original blog post for the instructions!

Points

  • Capture: 250
  • CapOn: 300

You can find these speedy sprinters traveling to the following landing pads every 6 hours or when captured:

Additionally, the Running Garden Gnome will scatter up to 3 NEW Gnome Headphones nearby when it is captured!

Like the other Gnome Hats, the Gnome Headphones will be visible to any player and will be deployed on the Gnome owner’s account. This means that unlike Feathers/Boulders, there are CapOn points for the owner! They expire after 120 minutes and have a capture radius of 300 feet. These hat scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks, ZeeOps, or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

The rewards for Gnome Hats are as follows:

  • Capture: 50 points
  • CapOn: 50 points

The Running Garden Gnome will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture Running Garden Gnomes on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Running Garden Gnome visits you. Running Garden Gnomes are non-blastable. They will be attracted to both Physical Magnets and Virtual Magnets. You can access Running Garden Gnomes by turning on your “All Limited Edition Specials” and “All Expiring Specials” filters.

Badges

As a reminder, Garden Gnomes have 4 associated badge lines:

  • Unique type deploy badges — you’ll need to earn each month’s skin by keeping your streak up!
  • Overall deploy badges — the more gnomes you deploy, the merrier!
  • Unique type capture badges — capture at least 1 of each skinned gnome!
  • Overall capture badges — capture as many gnomes as you can find!

While we revealed images for the first of each badge line in the original post, we are happy to show you the “Unique type deploy” and “Unique type capture” badges associated with the Running Garden Gnome:

We hope you don’t run out of breath while earning April’s Gnome Skin! Don’t forget to keep your streak up through April — you’ll need to in order to earn the May Gnome Skin!

Keep Your Eyes Peeled for Zee Folk and Leprechauns!

As promised at the start of the week, we have some more St. Patrick’s-day themed fun for you to enjoy all the way through the end of the month! Keep an eye out for these little green men — they will be hard to spot, but you may find your pockets a little heavier after an encounter! And no, they’re not aliens — or are they?

Zee Folk Details

Starting at 12:00 MHQ today, Zee Folk specials will bounce around the map until 23:59 MHQ on March 31st.

Only 17 Zee Folk specials will be available to cap! They will bounce around every 4 hours or when capped. Zee Folk will appear on the following landing pads:

  • Greenies
  • Physical Shamrocks
  • Virtual Shamrocks
  • Flat Rob
  • Flat Lou
  • Green-colored Virtuals:
    • Virtual Sea Green
    • Virtual Granny Smith Apple
    • Virtual Green
    • Virtual Forest Green
    • Virtual Asparagus
    • Virtual Olive Green
    • Virtual Yellow Green
    • Virtual Green Yellow
    • Virtual Spring Green

As these specials are so rare, they will be worth 1,000 points for the Capture and 50 points for the CapOn! You definitely don’t want to miss out! They will be attracted to Magnets. To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

When you capture a Zee Folk special, there is a chance that you will earn 17 Zeds! The popup that appears after you’ve captured a Zee Folk will let you know if you’ve earned any, so make sure to keep an eye out! You will also find them on your credits list.

There are 3 badges you can earn for capturing Zee Folk. You can check out the first below!

Flat Hatter- Capture one Zee Folk Munzee.

Limited Time Scatter Details

For the same period as Zee Folk activity, when you capture a Leprechaun or Leprechaun Variant, up to 3 Colored Zeds may be scattered nearby! These are the same Colored Zeds that scattered out of Rainbow Trails last year!

If you don’t own any Leprechauns, or would like to own more, you can pick them up in the store HERE! Remember that as of the Cyclops and Nymph Variant release last year, you can purchase multiples of the same myth! For a detailed explanation of how that works, refer to the blog post HERE!

Like last year, Colored Zeds will stay on the map for 1 hour or when captured. Each will award 100 points AND potentially a small number of Zeds to your account! We thought this would be a fun way to accumulate some extra currency to go towards Magnets, Secret ZeeOps, or whatever you want!

For more information about Leprechauns and their variants, check out our Help Guide articles HERE and HERE!

Start Your St. Patrick’s Day Preparations!

We did it — we’ve survived a year of staying safe at home! While things are looking up, we must remain diligent in our efforts to stay safe — but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate a little with some virtual fun! St. Patrick’s Day lends itself so well to Munzee due to its symbolic color of green, so this announcement is just the beginning — expect more in the days to come!

You can shop the whole collection HERE!

First, we are happy to announce 3 NEW Greeting Cards are available for purchase! You can pick up Greeting Cards from the Freeze Tag Online Store HERE. You receive multiple munzees from your single purchase. Read the details in the store, or see below.

NEW Greeting Card Munzee Details

We have 3 new Limited Edition cards for your deploying pleasure!

Make friends and family both near and far feel the luck of the Irish with St. Patrick’s Day Cards!

Don’t forget to edit the title and the notes to add a personal touch! While the capture message will contain your Munzee username as all Greeting Card capture messages do, we think typing in a more specific note will go a long way to creating a more unique and special experience!

This brings the current lineup of Greeting Cards available for purchase to the following:

  • Open Edition (will always be available; ONE Purchase yields FOUR munzees)
    • Birthday
    • Get Well
    • Thank You
    • Congrats
    • Sorry
    • Sorry 1
    • Sorry 2
    • Sorry 3
    • Winter
    • Summer
  • Limited Edition (will rotate depending on occasion; ONE Purchase yields THREE munzees)
    • Stay Home
    • Tech Issues (not available for sale)
    • March Into May Event (only available to March into May event hosts for their events)
    • Green Cheers
    • Kiss Me I’m Irish
    • Lucky Charm

As a refresher, the point structure for Greeting Cards is as follows:

  • Open Edition
    • Deploy: 50
    • Capture: 40
    • CapOn: 25
  • Limited Edition
    • Deploy: 60
    • Capture: 50
    • CapOn: 30

Remember that these munzees will be archived 7 days after they are deployed, so make sure your intended recipient captures it before then!

For more information on the Greeting Cards, you can check out our Help Guide article.

The Return of Virtual Shamrocks!

Eagle-eyed players may have noticed a change in the name of the old Virtual Shamrock, which was a limited-time special in 2016! Well we could all use a little more luck in 2021, so we’re excited to bring these back permanently. You can now shop the Virtual Shamrock in the Freeze Tag Store HERE!

The points for Virtual Shamrocks are as follows:

  • Capture: 30
  • Deploy: 50
  • CapOn: 30

Similar to the Air Mystery, when a Virtual Shamrock is captured 1-3 NEW Clover Leaves will be scattered nearby! If you’re extra lucky there’s a small chance that a Golden Four Leaf Clover will be scattered after capping a Clover Leaf!

The Clover Leaves and Golden Four Leaf Clovers will be visible to ALL players, not just the player who capped the Virtual Shamrock, and will be deployed on the Virtual Shamrock owner’s account. This means that unlike Feathers, there are CapOn points for the owner! These leaf and clover scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

The rewards for these scatters are as follows:

  • Clover Leaf
    • Capture: 30
    • CapOn: 17
  • Golden Four Leaf Clover
    • Capture: 75
    • CapOn: 25

Virtual Shamrocks are blastable, but their scatters are not. You can access the Virtual Shamrock by using the new filter in “Virtuals – Others”!

Badges

We’ve also created 2 new badge lines for capturing and deploying Shamrocks! These badges will be retroactive, but they will NOT count the Virtual Shamrocks from 2016.

The first badge line is for overall deploys of both physical and virtual Shamrocks. The second counts overall captures of both physical and virtual Shamrocks. You can see the first in each line below!

Expect more gorgeous celtic knot art in the badges that follow!

St. Paddy’s Personals

We’re also excited to announce a handful of personal tags with St. Patrick’s Day designs! Alongside the return of the Leprechaun Rover tag, we also have three round tags featuring the new Greeting Card designs. You can shop the whole collection HERE!

We hope these new game pieces make you feel as sprightly as a Leprechaun Gnome!

Flat Objects: The Future of Flat Types!

Don’t get us wrong — we love all 4 of our Flat Friends! But not all of our staff members are comfortable with being flattened. To allow for expansion of the Flat type, we’ve come up with Flat Objects! Think of them as the Munzee version of totems (à la Inception) where the Flat Object is something seemingly ordinary but is near and dear to each staff members’ hearts.

The first Flat Object is brought to you by Dylan, our indispensable Creative Director! If you’ve been a Munzee player for a while now, you’ve most likely met him, or at least heard of him… but for those who haven’t been fortunate enough to get to know the man, or would like a refresher, you can check out his most recent Meet Munzee Munzday post HERE!

Dylan’s Flat Object is a throwback to simpler times, and tube TV tech! Say hello to the Flat DHS, stylized after VHS Tapes from the 80s and 90s. Dylan has a nose for nostalgia, so these tapes (and the badges associated with them) will give you an insight to some of his favorite flicks. Read on to learn more!

Flat DHS Details

The Flat DHS joins the Flats as a virtual type. It is currently available in the Freeze Tag Store HERE!

Capture Radius: 300 feet, blastable

Proximity: 50 feet from other players’ Flats, 150 feet from your own.

Deploy: 19 points

Capture: Split 94 points with a minimum of 19 Points

CapOn: Split 94 points with a minimum of 19 Points

To access the Flat DHS munzee, turn on your “Virtual – Flats” filter or “All Flat Types” filter. For more information on Flats, you can check out our Help Guide article.

Badges

There are badge lines for deploying and capturing the Flat DHS, which, as mentioned above, feature some Munzee-fied versions of Dylan’s favorite movies. You can see the first of each below!

We hope you enjoy collecting Flat DHS tapes and learning a bit more about Dylan in the process!

Virtual Reseller Unique Munzees Have Arrived!

As we are just about a month away from the 5th birthday of Reseller Unique Munzees (RUMs), we thought it was time to bring this special munzee type into the virtual fold! Like the Physical RUMs, you will only see the pin image below on the map and in the summary panel that appears when you tap on the pin:

Also like the Physical RUMs, once you tap to view the Munzee Details, you will see a pin image containing the logo/branding of the reseller it came from. The resellers will be launching this product at their own shops within the next 24-48 hours, we just want you to have all the information in advance. You can get links to shop all of our resellers HERE! Edit and Update: The virtual RUM is special because it is the first scattering virtual that is also *blastable (able to be capped by using a blast capture).

The points for Virtual RUMs are as follows:

  • Capture: 35
  • Deploy: 40
  • CapOn: 30

Similar to the Cyborg Santa, when a Virtual RUM is captured 1-3 NEW Reseller Packages will be scattered nearby!

The Reseller Packages will be visible to ALL players, not just the player who capped the Virtual RUM, and will be deployed on the Virtual RUM owner’s account. This means that unlike Feathers, there are CapOn points for the owner! The Virtual RUM will count for clan wars and ZeeOps RUMs requirements. However, these package scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks, ZeeOps, or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

The rewards for Reseller Packages are as follows:

  • Capture: 25
  • CapOn: 20

There is a badge for deploying each different Virtual RUM. The badges appear similarly to the Reseller Package pin icons shown above! Additional badge lines are coming soon for cumulative RUMs captures/deploys that will include all physical and virtual RUMs!

We hope you enjoy these new Virtual RUMs! Just don’t get too tipsy!

Munzee on!

*Due to the unique nature of a blastable scattering virtual, the number of scattered packages may be reduced in the future to save server/DB power and speed. Additional tweaks may be made in order to maintain the integrity of the game while preserving the value of the gamepiece.

NEW Greeting Card Packs in the In-App Store!

With the release of the Motivational Message Cards last week, we thought it would be a great idea to show some love to the past card designs by making them more readily available in the app! If you’re looking to complete your collection, we’ve included some past Limited Edition cards, and some Open Edition cards that, while technically not “Limited Edition,” were still tough to get your hands on.

Please note that these packs are only available in the In-App Store, not in our online store.

Event Spotlight: Munzee in the Park – Katandra West

While Munzee can certainly be a solo game if you choose, there’s no denying the appeal in meeting others who share your interests. Munzee Events are perhaps the best example of this, as they allow you to meet both old and new players in a safe, friendly environment. On top of that, there are usually activities, games, and — if you’re lucky — goodie bags! That being said, planning events requires a considerable amount of effort. So, to make it easier for prospective hosts (and maybe even recurring hosts), we decided to put the spotlight on past events, Munzee-Toolkit style! We hope this series of posts will inspire you to try hosting an event if you never have before, or provide you with ideas to spice up future events if you’re an old hand at it!

Today we’re featuring the Munzee in the Park – Katandra West event, which took place on January 9, 2021 at Katandra West, Australia and was hosted by Rubik80, SpySmurf, and SammyDiddly.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

Katandra West is a small rural community just out of Shepparton who recently got a brand new mobile phone tower which finally enabled us to host an event there (we had been asked to do so in 2018). We have created an event at their Recreation Reserve to promote Munzee and its benefits to the local community.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

When we host our Munzee in the Park events we have a number of considerations that we evaluate. Because we are representing both the game of Munzee and our local council, we try to make it fun, friendly and safe. For these reasons, we try to pair new players up with experienced players to show them the basics and also to create new friendships. We select our event location based on where we can create multiple walking circuits that have minimal risks (such as road crossings, uneven tracks or snakes) and allow people to choose how far they wish to walk based on their individual fitness or time constraints. It’s a bonus if food, toilets and first aid are available for participants also. In order to continue attracting players we try to create badges that reflect the unique characteristics of the communities we visit and make a bonus badge available if they attend all events in our Munzee in the Park series. If you get new players to attend, give them some physical munzees to get them started too!

What made your event unique?

For the last four years we have volunteered to host Munzee events on behalf of our local council’s Activities in the Park Program. The program provides a range of free and low-cost activities for Greater Shepparton residents and visitors, encouraging people to be outdoors, physically active and engaging with their community. We take Munzee to some of the smaller communities for a number of reasons, including:

  1. Greater access to activities for the people in the local communities because it reduces travel times and costs.
  2. It provides a small tourism boost.
  3. It builds the local Munzee map should they wish to become regular players.
  4. It increases awareness of Munzee across our community which in turn promotes acceptance of people “photographing power poles” which might otherwise look suspicious.

This year’s events are also unique because of the Covid-19 Safety measures we have to undertake.

The major focus of our Munzee in the Park events is to introduce new players to Munzee and in order to get the word out there we do quite a lot of promotional work on Facebook, local radio, newspaper and through our council publications.

Would you like to highlight any future events you’re hosting?
