Munzee Mistakes: 25 General Tips and Helpful Hints

The Munzee community has banded together to bring us 20 capping tips, 20 deploy tips, and last week’s 10 tips for new players. To continue our journey of making Munzee more accessible for our many new players, this week we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of general tips and tricks sent in by some of Munzee’s dedicated players!

Are you a brand new player? Are you a dedicated player browsing the list to learn some new wisdom? (Are you an absolute expert seeing if your tip is featured? ?) No matter your level of gameplay, there is always something new you can learn since we’re always mixing things up to introduce new adventures, excitement, and specials to everyone’s favorite real world scavenger hunt!

Here is some general gameplay advice offered by fellow players:

Tip #1: Help fellow players complete Virtual Gardens and Trail Munzees. It helps everyone! (Elisa Angel Reynozo) #GrowTheMap

Tip #2: Always check your filters to make sure you’re not missing anything. (dap217)

Tip #3: Definitely learn how to use the filters to get the best experience. You will need to become a Premium Member to get the better filter range. (mikedee)

Tip #4: Become a Premium Member. The ability to use filters is incredibly helpful. In an instant you can filter out and see hotels/resorts that have rooms. You can filter and see JUST where Mythological Munzees are located near you. Being a Premium Member allows you to do this! (MRSG9064)

Tip #5: When you become a Premium Member, spend some time looking at Statzee. (This is the home of munzee statistics!) There is an amazing amount you can learn by looking at this information closely. (Bungle)

Tip #6: Sign up for monthly MunzPak subscriptions! I love getting my Physical Pak every month, as it gets me out and about in my area! Points makes badges! (Jemma Jones-Hayes)

Tip #7: Go to an event and make lots of new friends! (See the Munzee Events Calendar HERE!) They will be willing to help you with all the questions you have. Remember, no question is too daft (silly) to ask! (Anwsmum)

Tip #8: Go to an Event in the neighbourhood. You are able to meet more experienced players who can give you all kinds of tips. You might even be able to go and Munzee with them to see how they approach things. (Feikjen)

Tip #9: Get in a WhatsApp, Facebook, or online community to share Munzee stuff and just chat amongst each other. Communicating with fellow players is a great way to keep up to date with Munzee and get to know other players. (Human01d)

Tip #10: Watch Facebook, Twitter, and Munzee Blog posts for Munzee Announcements. New Munzee types may mean you need to check your Physical or Virtual FILTERS to see everything. (KernKlan)

Tip #11: If you’re unsure of what a sticker is coded as, test scan it, and then write on the back of the sticker so you don’t forget! (Liam Kearns)

Tip #12: When you’ve completed the new player tutorial, go back and scan that referral code that led you to the game! (Penfold49)

Tip #13: When you are starting out with a fresh area, deploy a “Myth Farm”, a block of Shamrock munzees, a block of Water Mystery munzees, a block of Ice Mystery munzees. That way, you will always have several Myth munzees showing up every day. (MythBait)

Tip #14: When deploying, mix it up a little. A field of Greenies will be more likely to attract players if you add some specials in there. A few jewels, weapons, Destination munzees, and scattering types (Ice Mystery, Fire Mystery, etc.) can help draw a player in. (Jellybean88)

Tip #15: It will take a while and effort, but having ZeeQRew makes capping better, and you won’t miss specials. (GeoTracker7)

Tip #16: If you buy a Personal Munzee, make sure you scan it first to deploy it before letting others scan it! Otherwise, they own it. (Linda Shoemaker)

Tip #17: For deploy requirements, don’t forget that if you cap a Destination munzee (Hotel/Motel/Virtual Resort/Timeshare) that has a vacancy, the room you get counts as a deploy. (Bennycams)

Tip #18: Hold down the “my location button” and it will follow as you walk/drive. (Connor Brown)

Tip #19: For extra fun when deploying physicals, have three Munzee players deploying every 50 feet to make a great Munzee physical power trail! (earthangel)

Tip #20: In cities or areas where walking can be difficult, think about places where a future capper can park. It’s easier to cap when you can park legally and only have a short walk. (Kpr1000)

Tip #21: Think of the long haul. Build your home map to bring the CapOns to you— they will come if you build it well enough! (FrankBroughton)

Tip #22: Along with setting filters, research the area before trips so you don’t get sidetracked and miss the munzees you traveled for by capping everything in sight. (rufnredy)

Tip #23: Name your Virtual Resorts before you ever deploy them. (denali0407)

Tip #24: Deploy as you travel. Name them after the place you’re at. (Pyro1970)

Tip #25: Always take a few munzees along on your trips, and deploy everywhere you go! (Loxmudprincess)

As always, feel free to share these posts with new referrals! (And don’t forget to share your referral code!) If this is your first time reading a blog post, welcome to Munzee! There is much to learn, but so many players who are happy to help!

Update! Swap-Ability Made Available for Certain Physicals!

Do you have an overwhelming amount of munzee credits? What if you had the ability to use a credit to “swap” or “replace from a distance” certain munzees? What if this was no longer a “what if” question, but a reality? Well, starting today at 15:00 MHQ time, you will indeed have the opportunity to swap a number of currently deployed physical munzees with a credit you already have!

Before we explain, let’s tell you WHY for those who don’t like to read to the bottom of blog posts! 😉

  • Refresh the physical map in any area you choose without needing to archive first and wait 7 days
  • Use credits you have accumulated but don’t have a good use for
  • Earn a new deploy for the day
  • Earn more captures from the locals in any area you refresh (there will be much rejoicing!)
  • Keep the CapOns flowing in places with large groups of regular players

And now the details for those who care to read on (we recommend you do). Any currently deployed physical munzee of the types below, that already contain a generic code, will now be swappable! There are two options for swapping a munzee: swapping like for like or choosing between a field of options. The ability has been indicated below. As always, you can shop for all of your Munzee needs at the Freeze Tag Online Store. Just remember that what’s in stock is constantly rotating, but to make things easy, you can access the available “Swap-Ability Collection” here!

Ability to Swap Like for Like:

  • Motel Munzee  (only able to swap a new Destination credit)
  • Hotel Munzee  (only able to swap a new Hotel credit)

This means that you are able to swap out any currently deployed physical Motel Munzee with a brand new Motel Munzee credit, or any currently deployed physical Hotel Munzee with a brand new Hotel Munzee credit. You can shop the Destination Munzee collection to pick up Motel and Hotel credits as needed.

Ability to Swap Within List:

This means that players can swap any currently deployed physical munzee on the list with any one of the physical munzee options on the list. For example, you can swap a currently deployed Briefcase Munzee with a new Scatter Munzee credit or any existing Jewel Munzee with any Clan Weapon Munzee credit. A mace for a diamond, an RPS becomes a premium, a ruby for a Hammer, etc.! The choice is yours!

How to Swap

This new feature for certain physical munzees is available online only. Only munzees with a generic code can be swapped. The first thing you will need to do to swap out physical munzees is to log into your munzee account.

One you’ve logged in, select the “Deployed” button/tab.

This will bring you to a list of all the munzees that you have deployed. Select which munzee you wish to swap out by clicking on the munzee name. Maybe even use the “filter by type” option to select a munzee type that qualifies for the swap.

Once you click on the munzee, you will be presented with the following options. In order to swap out your physical munzees, select the “Edit Munzee” option.

Under the section “Replace Missing Munzee,” you will notice a new option to “Swap Out Munzee.” Selecting this option will allow you to choose which type of munzee you will be swapping to.

You can then select which type of munzee you wish to swap for. The available options have been indicated earlier in this blog post. Keep in mind that Hotels and Motels can only be swapped like for like.

Be sure to verify which munzees you want to swap. Confirming the swap will archive the original munzee* and deploy a brand new munzee of the type you have selected. The new munzee will have the same name and notes so update those if necessary.

Why Swap?

Currently players are already able to make certain virtual swaps. Many virtual types can be swapped, with the exception of Resort Munzees, Virtual Emerald Munzees, Virtual Trail Munzees, Air Mystery Munzees, and Temporary Virtual Munzees. That means that the following virtual munzees can be swapped.

  • Amethyst Munzees
  • Sapphire Munzees
  • Virtual Munzees
  • Surprise Munzees
  • All Flats Munzees
  • Crossbow Munzees
  • Catapult Munzees
  • Night Vision Goggles Munzees

This brand new “swap-ability” feature for certain physicals allows players to do several things which we think:

  • Refresh the physical map in any area you choose without needing to archive first and wait 7 days
  • Use credits you have accumulated but don’t have a good use for
  • Earn a new deploy for the day
  • Earn more captures from the locals in any area you refresh (there will be much rejoicing!)
  • Keep the CapOns flowing in places with large groups of regular players

What do you think of this latest gameplay ability? Do you already have some munzee swaps in mind? Interested in an example from Rob’s account? You can see he updated the notes to remember the previous deploy.

Get creative, and Munzee on!

*Any munzee archived via the Swap feature will not lose points or deploy day credit (for streak purposes) UNLESS it has 0 caps.

Capture 3 Floating Benson WallaBee specials

Bouncing Benson

Like Floating Benson, there will be 833 of this physical special bouncing around every 6 hours or when capped. Bouncing Benson will be attracted to Physical Munzee Magnets. You can find him landing on Greenies, physical Elemental Mysteries (Fire, Water, Earth, Ice), and our new Urban Fit Munzees.

Points:

  • Capture: 50 points
  • CapOn: 25 points

Dragon and Yeti Variants Make for a Spooky Addition!

Halloween may be months away, but a number of gruesome creatures are ready to growl their way into the game. Starting at 15:00 MHQ time today, you will be able to upgrade both the Dragon and Yeti Mythological Munzees into four new Mythological Munzee Variants!

Much like AlternaMyths, the Mythological Munzee Variants are twists on the original Myth types that allow them to bounce to other types of munzees. These variants are only available to Myths that have been “Upgraded.” Currently we have released variants for the Unicorn, Fairy, Leprechaun, and Mermaid Myths. Both the Dragon and the Yeti will have two variants, with the opportunity to select which variant you want through Upgrading your Myth.

You can pick up your Bouncer Upgrade Credit, as well as munzees in our restocked Myth Collection, in the Freeze Tag Online Store! To celebrate the new Yeti and Dragon Variants, we have added a limited number of our Myths with variants back to the store. Shop soon if you want to pick up the Dragon, Yeti, Leprechaun, Fairy, Unicorn, or Mermaid! (Remember that the Fairy and Mermaid don’t need a Bouncer Upgrade Credit to be Upgraded!)

Once your Myth is upgraded with the Bouncer Upgrade Credit, you can convert it to a new type similar to how you would convert any other type of munzee. Remember that you can only convert a Myth Variant once, and after a Myth has been changed, it cannot go back. Previously known as the Myth Upgrade, the Bouncer Upgrade Credit also allows for the opportunity to “nudge” your Myth to a new munzee up to three times a day in the MHQ 24-hour day after it has sat for three hours. Plus it gives you the opportunity to rename your Myth to something personal and creative!

Points for Variant Myths will remain the same. Variant Myths will also continue counting toward their specific Myth badges just like normal. The only thing that changes with an Upgrade is what it bounces to, as well as a new capture icon in the Specials list.

All four variants will have the same point values:

  • Deployment: N/A
  • Capture: 200 Points
  • CapOn: 100 Points

You can read more details about the new Dragon and Yeti Variants below:

Chinese Dragon:

The flying serpent of Chinese lore will light the sky in flames! Approach with caution, because this fierce fire breather might just burn you down! This variant of the Dragon Mythological Munzee flies to the following:

  • Fire Mystery Munzees
  • Air Mystery Munzees
  • All types of Chinese Zodiac Munzees

Wyvern Dragon:

The winged monster has his eyes set on Treasure! Don’t think this variant is any less dangerous, because this dragon has a barbed tail at its disposal! This variant of the Dragon Mythological Munzee flies to the following:

  • Fire Mystery Munzees
  • Air Mystery Munzees
  • Amethyst Munzees
  • All three levels of Treasure Evos

Lycanthrope Yeti:

By the power of the moon and stars, prepare for a howling good time! You won’t want to run into this furry creature during a full moon! This variant of the Yeti Mythological Munzee races to the following:

  • Greenies
  • Earth Mystery Munzees
  • All types of Western Zodiac Munzees

Reptoid Yeti:

Beware the creature from the Black Lagoon! If Bigfoot met a frog, this would be the freakish production! This variant of the Yeti Mythological Munzee swims to the following:

  • Greenies
  • Earth Mystery Munzees
  • Water Mystery Munzees

Stay tuned for more information on upcoming Myth Variants! You never know what ghoulish and exotic creatures we have in store for you! In the meantime, we’re excited to see all the new variants hit the map! Remember that the amount of each new variant that are deployed is entirely up to the player community. Stay connected on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to chat with fellow players and make sure even amounts are being converted!

What Mythological Munzee Variants would you like to see next?! ? Let us know on social media!

Happy hunting and Munzee on!

Munzee Mistakes: 10 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was New

For the last few weeks, we have been sharing Munzee Tips to help ease new player transitions into everyone’s favorite real world scavenger hunt. After sharing 20 tips for both deploying and capping munzees, this week we’re keeping things simple with a short and sweet list of advice that long-time Munzee players wish to offer to the newbies.

Feel free to share these posts with new referrals (and don’t forget to share your referral code)! If you are new to the game and checking out our blog for the first time, welcome to Munzee! Things may seem confusing at first, but there are always plenty of players who are ready to help!

Here is the advice that current players have to offer:

1. The Facebook page Munzee Water Cooler* is a very helpful resource where you won’t be chastised for being a newbie asking questions. It’s filled with very helpful individuals for the most part. You will learn a lot by joining! (Mygalstar)

2. As a new player, build up the area where you live. You can then easily go out quickly to capture the many Bouncers that will land on your deploys. A good mix includes many greenies, a set or two of Elemental Mysteries, and a few Shamrocks. You can then fill in gaps with virtuals, starting with green, then red and black. Nothing beats just walking out of your house and capping some high point Munzees. (Jim Roik)

3. Try to earn the badges that are harder to earn, such as the Repeater and the Pi-badges, in the early days of the game. Very particular badges that include exact numbers will be harder to achieve once you are a regular player. (Norbee97)

4. As soon as possible, start deploying AND capturing at least one Munzee every day. This will let you get the streak badges sooner and get you into the game much more quickly. (malof)

5. Patience is an important tip! As a new player, it takes time to grow your local area, and it takes time to buy/earn munzees to deploy. It’s okay to get a little jealous of the older players and their many CapOns, but don’t worry, it will come in time. And there is a LOT to learn, so be patient with yourself! (Fizzlewizzle)

6. Get online and read about Munzee! The blog will tell you about badges, points, types of munzees, Specials, filters, etc. This helps you understand the game a little quicker. (Read about the different types HERE!) Also wherever you go, open the map and you will cap. (Sandmari)

7. Don’t cap everything in your local area. You never know when you need a quick cap or a certain type to keep a streak alive! This will also be beneficial if you choose to engage in Clan Wars or ZeeOps. (Cceasar)

8. Try to get into a Munzee community. This will help and support you in the game, as well as occasionally understanding the written word from MHQ. For me, the start of socializing within the game was attending an event and starting to talk to the lovely Munzee people. Today I think of them as my (Munzee) friends! (Jorgensen4220)

9. When attending events (or even just capping!), take along a portable battery charger or an iPad. Battery life is important when in a large area or park. (This tip may seem simple, but nothing cuts quite like a dead phone during a capping streak!) (NanaKern)

10. Become a Premium Member. The ability to use filters is incredibly helpful. In an instant you can filter out and see hotel/resorts that have rooms. You can filter and see JUST where myths are located near you. Being a Premium Member allows you to do this! (MRSG9064)

Don’t forget to follow us on  Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay up to date with the latest tips and gameplay updates. We’re also beginning to dust off the Munzee Help Manual, where you can find these Tips and Tricks. To share your Munzee Tip, connect with us on social media or e-mail iloveyou@munzee.com. As always, a big thank you to all players who shared their tips!

Shine Bright With New Gleaming Pouch Creatures!

What could possibly be cuter than a Pouch Creature? No, the answer is not rhetorical! It’s a Gleaming Pouch Creature!

Since April Fools is well over, you can believe us when we say there is a fun surprise for the lucky few! That’s right, new colorations of all three stages of Tuli, Vesi, and Muru are currently bouncing around the map waiting to get capped. There’s a catch though, these shiny specials are a bit shy, so you won’t know they’re Gleaming until you cap them. Gleaming Pouch Creatures will appear NORMAL on the map like any other Pouch Creature. However, there is a chance that the Pouch Creature will reveal itself to be Gleaming upon being capped! To heighten your chances of finding a Gleaming Pouch Creature you’ll need to cap each of them you see just to be sure.

If the Pouch Creature is Gleaming, the new icon will show up in the captured pop-up message, and it will also show as a new type on your specials/achievements page. The Gleaming Pouch Creature will also award double the original points for Cap/Deploy/CapOn! That means there are double points possible to be earned on all three stages of Tuli, Vesi, and Muru!

Pouch Creatures can be a little shy, but luckily all three types (Muru, Tuli and Vesi) are attracted to physical Munzee Magnets as well! They will only be attracted as their Level 1 version though, so once they level up they won’t fall for any tricks! You can pick up Magnets in the Freeze Tag Online Store, along with Elemental Munzee blocks which will be on sale for $12 (originally $16) at 15:00 MHQ to help draw out more Pouch Creatures!

At 15:00 MHQ time today, we will be adding some Pouch Creatures back to the Freeze Tag Online Store if you’d like to pick one up to deploy. Per usual these are in limited stock, so if you don’t have one, today is a great day to get one! (It’s also the perfect time to pick up our last Blast From The Past personal tag.)

Meeting your April fitness goals will be easier than ever with the added incentive to chase each and every Pouch Creature that pops up in your area!

Happy Hunting, and Munzee on!

April 1, 2019

You’d Have to be a Fool to Miss These Specials…

Qu’est-ce que tu as fait aujourd’hui? Le train train? Ou un chose plus cool? Arrêtez! C’est le temps pour un surprise! MONTRE-MOI, tu dis? D’accord! Un peu de patience, mon ami…

Happy April Fools’ Day, or as the folks in France say, Poisson d’Avril! If you don’t have a flat fish to stick on someone’s back, don’t worry, because MHQ has got you covered with a Flat Fish special of your own! Quel bon chance!

Flat Fish

Physical Flat Fish Munzee seasonal specials will be foolishly flopping around the map today at 11:11 MHQ time, so in a rare turn of events, you might want to make a wish that you end up an April Fools’ fish! Fortunately, if you don’t have a foolish first today you still have until 11:11 MHQ time on April 11 to enjoy this fishy special.

That Daniel Fischer surprised us with a whopping 401 fish flopping their way onto the map. However, much like a fish out of water, this special might just flop around when it comes to numbers deployed. Quel bordel! These Munzee Owned Bouncers (MOBs) will remain in place for four hours or when capped, whichever comes first, so you’re going to have to be a clever fisherman or woman to reel them in.

Points

  • Cap: 100 points
  • Host: 44 points

These one-dimensional aquatic animals will be drawn to Greenies, Scatter Munzees, the new Urban Fit Munzees, and all five physical Mystery Munzee types (Regular, Ice, Water, Earth, and Fire). These flopping, flapping flat fish WILL be attracted to magnets, which you can pick up from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

There will be two badges to earn for reeling in this holiday special. The first badge will appear as follows:

Flat Fishing- Capture 1 Flat Fish

But wait- THERE’S MORE?!

Fish swim in schools after all, and it looks like our Flat Fish brought along a Red Herring for company.

Mon dieu! Beacoup des poissons!

Red Herring

This Virtual MOB will also remain in place for 4 hours or when capped, whichever comes first. There will be 0104 Red Herrings on the map to shake things up. These fishy fellows will be attracted to all color virtuals, as well as crossbows, because what better way to catch a fish than with a crossbow? C’est un blague!… je pense.

Points

  • Cap: 100 points
  • CapOn: 44 points

Comme les autres poissons, the Red Herring WILL be attracted to magnets. The capture radius will be 300 feet, but these virtuals are NOT blastable. (Don’t cry, because fish can’t!!!) They will also be on the map from April 1 at 11:11 MHQ time until April 11 at 11:11 MHQ time unless Daniel Fischer feels like mixing things up.

There will also be two badges associated with capturing the Red Herring. The first will appear as follows:

Swimming Sleuth- Capture 1 Red Herring

Just remember…

We hope you have a foolishly fun time with this France-inspired April Fools’ Day. If you’d like to participate in Poisson d’Avril, we even have a Flat Fish PDF you can download, print out, and stick on your friends’ backs! What are friends for? You can also find a .PNG version below if you have trouble with the PDF.

When your friend discovers the fish taped to their back, be sure to shout “poisson d’avril!” as your friend has now become an “April fish” for falling for the prank. Share a picture of your successful shenanigans with the hashtags #FlatFish and #MunzeeOn and be sure to tag our Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter pages! We would love to have some fishy fun to share. ?

Bon Poisson d’Avril, and Munzee on!

Spring Awakens with New Butterfly Evolutions!

The announcement of a new Evolution Munzee so soon after our Flower Evolutions might seem like a classic case of April Fools. We promise it’s not! We mean it when we say it’s time to welcome spring (in Texas) with our brand new Butterfly Evolution series. These beautiful evolutions just can’t wait to grow their wings and fly into the game in a very unique way!

Butterfly Evolutions

Our Butterfly Evolutions have five stages, with a combination of physical and virtual. Stages 1-4 will be Physical, while Stage 5 evolves into a temporary POB. Stage 5 will bounce to Virtuals and Physicals. Dying to get your hands on our latest collection of evolution munzees? The Butterfly Evolutions will only be available via our April MunzPak subscriptions, the full contents of which will be revealed on April 1 at 10:00 MHQ time. Please note that if you buy a MunzPak before 00:01 MHQ on April 1, it will still contain March’s contents.

Like our Flower Evolutions, the stage timeline for the Butterfly Evolutions will be unique and not follow the classic structure of previous Evolution Munzees. It mirrors the actual life cycle of a butterfly!

  • Stage 1 to Stage 2: after 4 days
  • Stage 2 to Stage 3: after 14 days
  • Stage 3 to Stage 4: after 10 days
  • Stage 4 to Stage 5: permanent until reset to stage one

Stage 5 will exist for 42 days or 10 captures, whichever happens first, at which time the beautiful butterfly will be archived. This temporary Butterfly POB will stay in place for 8 hours or when captured and will not be able to be nudged. However, the Butterfly will be attracted to physical magnets on Greenies and virtual magnets on Rainbow Virtuals, so be sure to pick some up from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

The first four stages of the Butterfly Evolutions will be the same for all players. However, Stage 5 will have the option of emerging as one of three different butterfly species which can bounce to both Physicals and Virtuals. Please note that although the first four stages for each are the same, they will count as different special capture icons.

The stages include:

  • Stage 1: Butterfly Egg
  • Stage 2: Caterpillar
  • Stage 3: Chrysalis
  • Stage 4: Hatched Chrysalis
  • Stage 5: Butterfly

A temporary POB will be launched when the Evolution reaches Stage 4. The Chrysalis will become a Hatched Chrysalis and remain in place, while the Butterfly will be launched at the same time. It will “live” and bounce around for 42 days OR 10 captures, whichever happens first. Similar to POBs, the Butterfly Evolutions will be available for multi-capture only as a Butterfly (Stage 5). There will only be one capture allowed per stage for the first four stages.

This new line of munzees will fit into the overall Evolution Munzees category. Stages 1-4 will have a normal cap radius of 300 feet for Physical, while Stage 5 will have a cap radius of 500 feet. In adherence to our normal Proximity Rules, Stage 1 deploys must be 50 feet from any other type and 150 feet from own of any type. The Butterfly POB will be non-blastable. To access all five stages, you will need to turn on the “Physical” filter (for Stages 1-4), “Physical” and “Virtual” filters (for Stage 5), and “All Expiring Specials” Premium filter (for Stage 5).

An Evolution Reset Credit can be purchased to reset your Evolution back to Stage 1. If a Butterfly Evolution is reset, there is a chance it will evolve into a different species of butterfly at Stage 5 than it was before. Although you cannot capture a reset stage 1-4 if you have already captured the original, you CAN capture the final level of a reset. An easy way to know is if you see it on the map, you can cap it!
