Featured Munzee Toolkit: Alex Williams (Squonk)

One of the best parts about Munzee is that you can play how you want. Everyone goes about playing a bit differently, and that leads to some very creative and innovative uses of objects. From containers to bags to maintenance, we always encounter something new when we meet players. We want to showcase your Munzee Toolkits to see how you play the game and possibly even inspire other players who may need help. This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from Alex Williams (Squonk).

Who are you?
I’m Alex Williams, and my username is Squonk. My family also plays as hardcorepistachio, squirrelwithsombrero, Zappa, and kwyjibo.

What’s in your toolkit?
I mostly play on my own and carry 1 accordion wallet that consists of everything: generics, batch processed greenies, Fire, Ice, Shamrocks, Earth, gems, evolutions, urban camo generics, 1 dog tag, a couple of RPS, and Mystery Munzees. The wallet goes with me EVERYWHERE.

I never leave home without having the family toolkit in my car for when they join me to play. It consists of:

  • a 2nd wallet as a back up for when we have a specific goal and only want to take the essentials for said goal plus a few generics.
  • 2 small tackle boxes:
    • One contains — more generics, RPS, Mysteries, hard plastic generics (that I got at an event attended by Rob and Dylan), and batch processed greenies for the kids.
    • The other contains — coinz, dog tags and beaded chains, nails, and zip ties for affixing dog tags to trees, fence posts, and wooden poles.
  • . tin with my batch processed greenies.
  • a tin of urban camos.
  • Back-up battery packs, charging cords, and plug-in chargers
  • a tube of Gorilla Glue (not pictured)
  • a Swiss-army knife (not pictured)

This winter, the toolkit also included a thermos of hot water and an ice scraper. We had a severe winter, and I had to scrape ice off many light poles in order to cap.

Munzee Newsletter: March 2017

In March we celebrated our favorite color- GREEN. We also gave back to some wild friends with the help of our players, announced some birthday plans, crashed at a couple hotels and updated the app.

Take a look back on some of the things that happened this month and what to expect next month as well!

We kicked off the month with Safar-Zee, a fundraising effort focused on helping wildlife worldwide. For the month of March we sold Paw Print special virtual icons with proceeds going to help wildlife rescue organizations. As always our players showed their enthusiasm from the start and have already helped In-Sync Exotics and our newly adopted tiger Mystery.

The special Paw Prints will be on the map through 23:59 MHQ Time on April 30, 2017. The virtual garden above In-Sync is permanent.

Greet Garfield in Munzee, IN!

This month we announced some of Munzee’s 6th Birthday celebration plans to take over Muncie, Indiana and turn it into Munzee, Indiana! Join Rob the weekend of July 21st for a number of fun events including a trip to the Delaware County Fair! Rob will also be visited by a certain fat cat who is pretty popular around those parts.

Munzee Gone GREEN

We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day weekend in full force with a triple point weekend on some of our favorite green munzees, expediated Leprechauns and a limited time Leprechaun badge line!

Needless to say, our players made the most of the weekend and Saturdaywas in the Top 10 Overall days of both captures and deploys.

At Your Service

While February kept players busy capturing the treacherous Jewel Thief on precious stones, in March a new stealthy fella began roaming the halls of Hotels and Motels worldwide.

He claims he’s just here to help you with your bags though, so be sure to leave a tip for the new Bellhop Nomad Munzee!

The up-Dating Game

This month we updated Munzee to version 3.3.2. Be sure to update your app to make the most of the following new features.

  • Changes to the Own Socials list to fit overall look and feel.
  • Added the ability to deploy Socials from the player’s Details page.
  • Fixed photo submission issues for Places Munzees.
  • Added the ability to choose between select installed navigation apps.
  • Added a quick way to reset and activate all filters.
  • Updated the scanner.
  • Updated translations.
  • Minor bug fixes and improvements.

Coming in April…

– We know we’ve been BASHful, but stay tuned for some news soon.

– Jokes on you, this started already.

– Have any righteous Referrals? Asking for a friend…

Featured Munzee Toolkit: Mike Blaylock (TK7464)

One of the best parts about Munzee is that you can play how you want. Everyone goes about playing a bit differently, and that leads to some very creative and innovative uses of objects. From containers to bags to maintenance, we always encounter something new when we meet players. We want to showcase your Munzee Toolkits to see how you play the game and possibly even inspire other players who may need help. This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from Mike Blaylock (TK7464).

Who are you?
My name is Mike Blaylock, and my username is TK7464.

What’s in your toolkit?
My toolkit contains the following items:

  • Anti-reflective card with assorted sizes: Sometimes, munzees are attached a reflective material which can make them hard to scan. I cover the reflective materials with the card and capture the munzee.
  • Several small tackle boxes that contain munzees. These easily fit in my cargo pockets.
  • A headlight for night ops
  • Sharpies to blackout any archived munzees.

  • A small bag that holds:
    • 2 spare batteries
    • a telescopic mirror
    • a magnifying glass
    • an Exacto knife
    • components for making hanging munzees: scissors, cardstock, self-laminating pouches, zip-ties, hole punch)
    • a Letherman multi-purpose tool
    • a lanyard with a small LED flashlight and an emergency whistle

Finally, the Camelbak bag that holds all of the components of the toolkit. It easily attaches to the Camelbak hydration system.

If you have a Munzee Toolkit that you’d like to show off, you can email us at iloveyou@munzee.com with the subject “Munzee Toolkit”. Make sure to include:

  • Your username and where you are from.
  • A few high quality photos.
  • A list of what each item is and how you use it.
  • What made you decide to use those items.
  • Any other relevant details.

We want to see your creativity and learn how you play. Show us what you’ve got!

Player of the Week: Warren Crossman (war1man)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Warren Crossman (war1man).

Who are you?

I am Warren Crossman. I got my Munzee username from the first three letters of my first name, a “1”, and the last three letters of my last name. I do not like war — unless it’s Clan Wars! LOL. I munzee with my lifelong partner, Rosieree, and we have tons of fun with the game and all the players in it.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Longwood, Florida, just north of Orlando, in the hear of Munzee-rich Florida. We had a fun time developing the area with the other Florida Munzee players.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started Munzee when it first came out but found it pretty boring as it was only greenies. They were very sparse, and the only ones showing were usually either way off with their coordinates or missing. I stopped playing, and then, in early 2013 while off with some friends doing that other location based game, I spotted a munzee on a lamppost at a McDonald’s we had stopped at. I downloaded the app, signed in , and scanned a few in the area. The rest is history…

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I like to walk, but I need a purpose — which Munzee provides. I like the way MHQ keeps the game changing and is constantly challenging us. Sometimes I think they do too much too fast, but that’s better than not enough, right? I also like the other players involved in Munzee, so Clan Wars really appeal to me. I think that by working with other players and developing a big clan group, we have become a fun family. I now have friends all over the world that I have met through Munzee.

What is on your wish list?
I enjoy events, but I wish they would limit the amount of events in a given area. Too much of a good thing is sometimes not good. I wish that MHQ members would limit the events they put on in areas like outs that have events more frequently.

Tell us about yourself!
I have been married to Marie for almost 47 years, and we have 5 beautiful children, who are now adults, and an amazing 6 year old grandson who loves to munzee with Grandma and Papa. I own a flooring business that specializes in retail stores. I am thinking about retiring, but I’m just not ready yet. I was born in Massachusetts, but my mother moved us to Florida when I was 5, so I am Floridian 100%. I love my Florida Gators and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but I also pull for the Patriots since they were my first NFL team. I love Nascar.

Other hobbies include:

Other?? Munzee takes a lot of my free time, and I love to run into people who don’t have a clue as to what I am doing while Munzeeing and try to introduce them. I also love it when new people start capping in the area. We try to introduce ourselves to them and explain the game.

Any last words?
Thanks, MHQ, for keeping the game changing and making it fun. I think that change can be good. I just hope we don’t lose the basic physical gameplay by making it obsolete.

war1man also include a social, so cap away!

April Fool’s Day 2017 – The Prankster

All sorts of shenanigans occur on and around April Fool’s Day, and this year is no different. We’ve noticed a mischievous character going by “The Prankster” around the office lately, and we think we’ve learned his plans.

The Prankster has been taking some cues from a few of our newest Mystery Munzees, so you need to be careful when you go after him. When you capture him, one of three things will happen:

  1. The Prankster Burns You – When you feel the heat of The Prankster’s jokes, it doesn’t end well. You lose five (5) points, but the burn counts towards the First-, Second-, and Third Degree Burn badges.
  2. The Prankster Freezes You – The Prankster is cold hearted, and he’ll show you that. You lose one (1) point and you get frozen for one (1) minutes, but the freeze counts towards the Frost Bite, Big Freeze, and Ice-Solated badges.
  3. The Prankster Gets Foiled – Just because you don’t lose doesn’t mean you win. You don’t lose or earn any points.

Each scenario will also earn you a badge! You can earn the Playing With Fire, Cold-Hearted, and Zilch, Zip Nada, Nothing badges for getting burned, getting frozen, and foiling The Prankster, respectively.

Details

Dates: March 31st at 00:01 MHQ time through April 9th at 23:59 MHQ time

Capture Points: -5, -1, or 0
CapOn Points: 14

Number of Pranksters on the Map: 1,741

Bounce Time: The Prankster will bounce on greenies every 6 hours or when capped

The Mystery Munzee line wasn’t the only line of munzees that The Prankster was taking cues from. He also learned something special from the Mythological Munzees. You CAN capture The Prankster on your own munzees.

Have fun!

In-Sync Exotics and Wildlife Around the World

Last Wednesday, members of MHQ headed out to In-Sync Exotics to meet our adoptive tiger, Mystery, and the other animals that they care for as part of our March Safar-Zee fundraising efforts.

The team was able to tour the facility and learn about the different types of animals that In-Sync rescues. From big cats such as tigers and lions to the occasional outliers like lemurs, In-Sync rescues animals from danger and mistreatment. They provide a safe and nurturing environment for animals in need.

We want to thank you for making this fundraiser such a success! As a reminder, you’re still able to purchase Safar-Zee Temporary Paw Print Specials from the Munzee Online Store, but only through Friday. They will remain on the map through the end of April. Don’t miss out!

We’d also like thank you for the overwhelming amount of suggestions for Wildlife Places Munzees. At 15:00 MHQ time today, the first round of Wildlife Places Munzees will be deployed!

Details:
Capture Points – 10
Capture Radius: 1,000 ft (Not Blastable)
Can be captured once per MHQ day

Like the Sports and Airport Places Munzees, we will continue to add more down the line.

Once again, thank you for your support. You are the backbone of this game and the reason we do what we do.

Munzee on!
