May Flowers

April showers bring May flowers. Well we here at MHQ have had plenty of rain recently, and we’ve decided to spruce up the map with some of those May flowers. Starting NOW, 555 May Flower icons will be blooming on the physical greenies and bounce every six hours unless captured before then. The capper will receive 17 points while the owner of the host Munzee will receive 7 points. These icons will be on the map until 2359 MHQ time on Sunday, May 31st.

Munzee’s 4th Birthday Worldwide Parties

Join us this July in celebrating the fourth anniversary of Munzee’s creation! A lot has happened in four years and, as those that remember last year’s celebrations know, we like to celebrate. Over the next few months we’ll be releasing Birthday info, but we wanted to give our players some notice about our worldwide Munzee Birthday celebration event. Much like last year we want our players to host their own Munzee birthday parties across the world. We may not be able to join you all in person, but we want to join you in spirit. So from July 1-5 we ask that our worldwide community join us in celebration of four years of Munzeeing!

This year we want to organize it a bit better, so we’re asking that players create their events in the Munzee Calendar from July 1st-5th, 2015. This will help let your local communities know that they can join and also help us see where everyone is celebrating. As an added bonus if you can get ten people to join you at your event we’ll award you with a special Munzee Birthday Host badge! Details are subject to change over the next couple months, but we wanted to give you guys enough notice so you have time to plan these awesome events! Zee- A Munzee Companion App is now available for download!

We’re proud to announce that our new app Zee is now available for download for iOS and Android devices! This new Munzee companion app has been designed as a handy tool to take your Munzee experience to the next level. Taking key points from Munzee, the Zee app adds new depths to your real world scavenger hunt. Check out your daily points, convert munzees in the field and more!

It’s easy to use, just download Zee- A Munzee Companion App in the Apple or Google Play store, login with your Munzee account info and start. The Zee app will showcase a realtime point counter so you can keep track of your daily progress. Looking at conquering the 10K badge? Preparing for the precise Pi badge? Then Zee is the tool for you.

You can also finally convert munzees in the field using the Zee app. Whether you’re deploying a diamond, coloring a virtual or sharpening a battle axe, Zee makes it easy to convert on the fly. Don’t take our word for it though, download Zee and convert NOW. Just what will you convert though? Well funny you should ask…

In connection to Zee’s release we are also releasing the new Aquamarine Jewel pin! This is our 218th unique munzee pin and to commemorate Zee’s birth month of March it is the light blue semi-precious stone. Like other members of the jewel collection this is a conversion munzee and can be attached to any greenie. This special icon earns 25 points for deployment. The owner receives 10 points for each capture on the munzee and the capper earns 10 points. Yes, we realize that Zee and the Aquamarine pins are actually being released in April and not March, but it took a little longer to mature than we expected. We stand by our decision.

Premium members have received one free Aquamarine credit (which you can see at munzee.com/credits), but those who download the Zee app from April 6th-12th will also receive another free credit. Accounts that have signed into Zee by the deadline will receive the free credit on April 13 at 10:00 a.m. MHQ time. Aquamarine credits will also be on sale in the Munzee online store for a limited amount of time.

You do NOT have to be a premium member to download Zee or receive the free aquamarine credit upon download. We suggest you become a premium member so you don’t miss out on more freebies in the future though. Sillyman Special Icons Are On the Map!

April Fool’s Day is full of “new releases” or jokes from companies. Although we’ve been known to have a laugh or two, we like to put out some real items, too. Special icons are always fun, and our Sillyman icons are no joke!

Starting at 1200 MHQ time TODAY, 300 Sillyman icons will attach to physical greenies across the map and will bounce every 3 hours unless captured before then. Sillyman caps give you 0-25 points for capture and cap on. You may not capture your own Munzee. These icons will be on the map until 2359 MHQ time on Sunday, April 5th. You can see if there are any pins near your at http://www.munzee.com/sillyman.

Make sure the joke isn’t on you, and cap your Sillyman Icon before they disappear!

Munzee Players Raise $50,000 for the American Heart Association

We’re extremely proud to announce our players have helped us raise a $50,000 donation for the American Heart Association through our virtual candy hearts fundraiser. This is a huge testament to our players’ ability to give and we continue to beam with pride with each fundraising effort. Although we only sold the AHA Candy Heart Virtuals for seven days our players quickly showed their support and the Munzee Map now looks like a box of Necco conversation hearts!

The American Heart Association was ecstatic to receive our gift and shared many stories- highlighting how our donation will be used to help the world. Whether it’s funding heart research or aiding in education, the money our players raised will take AHA one step closer to saving hearts worldwide. According to the US Center for Disease Control, Cardiovascular disease (including heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure) is the number 1 killer of women and men in the United States and a leading cause of disability. This is an important cause that affects every human being and we’re proud to say we’ve helped in this fight.

Remember, the virtual hearts that have been deployed around the world are still live for another couple weeks. We’ve seen tons of new events pop up based on heavy heart locations and everyone has had a lot of fun spreading the love. The virtuals will disappear from the map on March 15th at 23:59 MHQ time (GMT -6). To find an event near you or even host you own go to calendar.munzee.com.

Remember the Alamo! New specials live on the map.

In celebration of Texas Independence Day (March 2, 1836) we have released new specials to the map. These new pins commemorate the Battle of the Alamo where Texans fended off Mexican attacks from taking the Alamo, a Mexican mission, for 13 days before falling to Santa Anna’s forces. This battle became an inspirational moment in the battle for Texas Independence and to this day the Alamo still plays a huge part in Texas history.

254 Alamo pins will be across the map worldwide, bouncing to a new location every 6 hours. There is a 36 point split between owner and capper, with each getting a minimum of 5 points. The pins will stay on the map for 13 days, from March 2 until March 15. By capping an Alamo pin you will also get a Come an Cap It badge as well. Eventzee Special Icons are on the Munzee map!

EventzeeLogo copy Eventzee has invaded Munzee! Eventzee’s president Bob has seemingly declared war on Munzee and now Eventzee special icons are popping up all over on the Munzee app. So it’s up to the Munzee players to get out there and cap all of those Eventzee pins before it’s too late! We want peace with Eventzee though, so when you cap one of these special physical pins you’ll be taken to the Eventzee website where you can download the app. Both Munzee and Eventzee can live cohesively, but to do that you’ll need to download the app and join the free weekly photo hunt. It’s actually a lot of fun to play Eventzee too though, so give it a shot and appease Bob Vardeman.

Announcing Candy Heart Virtual Specials

February is the month of romance and Munzee wants to share our love with the world. In connection to American Heart Month we’re proud to announce that new special virtual icons will be for sale and proceeds will be donated to heart research. These special virtual Candy Hearts will be on sale from February 1-7, and the munzees will stay on the map through March 15th at 23:59 MHQ time (GMT -6).

Each pack of 4 virtual heart munzees will cost $5, with all proceeds going to the American Heart Association. The owner of the Candy Heart virtual gets 14 points when they deploy and 14 points will be given to the owner and capper when it is captured. An in-game badge will also be earned for any player who captures or deploys a candy heart. These virtual munzees are available for purchase at the beginning of February with no limit in quantity. Like our past virtual specials, the Candy Heart munzees will disappear after a certain amount of time, but we still encourage our players to construct gardens and base events around these deployed munzees. Trail Munzees are available now!

For those who made it through all 5 episodes of Rob’s adventures in the “Tale of Trails” web series, we’re sure you’ve been on the edge of your seats waiting for more information about the new Trail Munzee. Well the time has finally come- you can buy your 5 pack of Green Trail Munzees in the online store now! For $5 you get one complete Green Trail made up of 5 Trail Munzee credits. Each of the munzees can be deployed within a 5 mile radius of the starting point. Each munzee must be deployed at least 1000 feet from other Trail munzees.

The Trail Munzee is a credit applied to your account and used for conversion of regular “greenie” munzees. A previously deployed greenie can be converted to a trail munzee only if it has had zero captures. You can see your available credits at www.munzee.com/credits.

You will receive 5 points per deploy of a trail Munzee, but your trail will not become live until you deploy all 5 munzees.

When capping a trail only the first munzee will be visible on the map, but as you capture each Trail Munzee the next in line will appear for your to follow. If you stumble upon a Trail Munzee that is not next in line you will receive an error message.

As you cap the trail the points you receive will increase as you progress.

Stops one and two are worth 5 points for capture and owner cap on.
Stops three and four are worth 10 points for capture and owner cap on.
Stop five is worth 30 points for capture for completing the trail, and 30 points for owner cap on for creating a good trail.

The goal of the Trail Munzee is to move beyond the light pole, the street sign, and the parking lot. Create a trail that leads other players to something worth seeing. Lead them on a tour of your favorite local places. Take them to places that are off the beaten path. This purchase will allow you to blaze your own trail!
