Another Message from Louise

This week I have hit 2 very important milestones; I have been working for Munzee for 1 year, and I have managed over 500 events. Thank you to all my hosts, you’re certainly keeping me busy!

I’m really excited about MunzFit events starting next week. It’s not too late to join in, get them on the calendar and get involved! I have a fabulous host badge available too:

preview-full-MunzFitEventHost_720

All the events you host go towards your tally for the multiple host badges and guess what? I now have 15 and 20 times host badges available, I wonder who will be first to get them?

Something else to be excited about are some updates for events. Following on from the MunzFit events we are launching a new type of event account and a new special for you – the Event Pin!

preview-full-event pin

These Event Pins will be on a separate layer (similar to Flat Robs) and are reactive to other Event Pins (minimum proximity 50ft),  but not to other munzees on the map or the event account if proximity restrictions have been lifted on it.
There will be 100 Event Pins in each event account, hosts don’t have to use them all but can if they wish. If the event has a customised icon it will replace the Event Pin icon. They are worth 5 points to capture and replace greenies in the event accounts.

There will be no limit on what else goes into the event accounts e.g. MVMs and Virtuals. There are also new offerings for temporary placement e.g. Diamonds and Amethysts . New prizes available too e.g. Flat Robs and Virtual Resorts. Details of everything available and prices are listed here (https://calendar.munzee.com/MUNZEE_EVENT_PACKAGE.pdf) and are emailed automatically to hosts with their calendar link when their event gets listed on the calendar.

Hosts can also now see their event’s deployed munzees on the map ahead of the go live time as long as they are logged in on the event account. This should make the deploying process easier.

Looking further ahead to July we will be inviting you all to celebrate our 5th Birthday with us by hosting your own Birthday Parties throughout the month. Details on the packages available will be released next week.

In the meantime, thank you for your support and Munzee On!

MunzFit Events FAQ

We’ve had some questions regarding the MunzFit events, so we’ve got a FAQ for you!

Do I or my guests need a Fitbit?

  • No. MunzFit events have no ties to the Munzee Fitness Program. However, these events are meant to encourage players to get out and do something active.

Are the Flat Robs owned by the event or are they for prizes?

  • Flat Robs are owned by the event.

What exactly does “No proximity rules for non-Event Pins” mean?

  • One of the options for events is to have no proximity, meaning the event account can deploy Munzees in dense areas that they normally wouldn’t be able to. For MunzFit events, this option will be included. The only exception to this rule is the new Event Pins. Full information on those will be available very soon.

Do all attendees have to bike? Is it a non guided bike tour?

  • That is up to the event host. There are no specific requirements regarding what kind of event is put on.

Do Event Pins for the MunzFit events all have same icon?

  • Yes. This is the first time the Event Pins will be introduced. For future events, the hosts will be able to purchase custom icons for Event Pins like they do now for greenies.

Do we have to do a sports event or will a normal event also count?

  • Though we can’t say there is such a thing as a “normal” event, there are no specific requirements for a MunzFit event. We would love to see new, fitness-style events, though.

Are MunzFit events just like other events but with different things to deploy?

  • Yes and no. While the requirements are the same as other events, MunzFit events also include the special MunzFit badge, and they will be the first events to use the new Event Pin.

Can you explain how the MunzFit events work?

  • MunzFit events are an attempt to tie in Munzee’s contribution to the MND Association and the Rave & Ride Event with all players to give everyone the chance to support the cause. Events between May 6th-15th can purchase a MunzFit package and receive the MunzFit Badge, the new Event Pin, and other special items listed. They have no specific requirements regarding what the event must achieve (eg biking, running, etc), but we do encourage players and hosts to come up with new, exciting ways to incorporate something different into their events.

If you have any other questions, please email louise@munzee.com. Thanks, and Munzee on!

MunzFit 2016!

As we’ve said before, Munzee has been working with multiple organizations to donate money from the March fundraisers. While we’ve been working with MDA and Skylar directly, we’ve been working with another organization to help provide support for MNDA. We’re now ready to release information and introduce MunzFit 2016!

Rave & Ride is a 300+ person indoor cycling event organized by Steven Smith that raises funds for the MND Association in honor of his mother, Genifer, who passed away from MND. The event will be hosted at Stoke Park in the UK and see individuals and teams of indoor cyclists come together for an all-day sponsored ride with club music provided by live DJs. There is also the possibility of two world records being broken due to the scale of the event and the number of members expected to take part. Steven has already raised £115,000 for the MND Association through several events, and he is hoping the Rave and Ride event will push that amount over £160,000. You can learn more about the Rave and Ride event here.

Munzee will be involved in two ways. First, we will be making a donation to Rave and Ride during the event on May 14th, 2016. Rob and Matt will be traveling to the UK to meet up with Louise and present the donation to Steven. We didn’t want to stop there, though. While Louise is already participating in the event, Rob and Matt wanted to show their support for the cause and ride as well. They will be teaming up with Team DBA and DBA Sports (one of Louise’s riding sponsors) to ride during the event.

Rave & Ride is also the launching point for MunzFit 2016. From May 6th-15th, we will be having MunzFit events. We want to get as many people as possible involved, so we will be offering a MunzFit package.

For $100, a MunzFit Event includes:

  • The MunzFit Badge with editable text and flag (see below)
  • 50 Event Pins (more information regarding these to follow)
  • 10 Flat Robs
  • 10 MVMs
  • No proximity rules for non-Event Pins
  • Prizes for all attendees from Secret Steven

Rob, Matt, and Louise will also be hosting a Munzee Event on Friday, May 13th, so check out the calendar!

We also have MunzFit apparel available on the Munzee Store where you can write in the name or place of your event!

We hope to see everyone getting out and active! Munzee on!

Munzee Madness 5 Recap

Rob, Matt, and Robbie headed out West this past weekend to attend Munzee Madness 5 at Yorba Regional Park in (kinda) sunny California. They had a great time, and we want to share their experiences with everyone.

First, though, we want to thank and congratulate our wonderful reseller Elliot and his team for putting on the event. Their five events spanning two days went extremely well. The effort and passion they have for the game shone through and blew everyone away. We’d also like to thank all of the players who participated, both in person or by placing virtuals at the events. Points and badges were bountiful. Attendees for one of the Friday events received the Party Crasher Attendee badge while the main Saturday event earned attendees the Centurion Attendee badge. The huge turnouts at the events were wonderful to see.

On to our stories:

Friday

MM5 began Friday when Elliot hosted players at his shop as a preliminary meet and greet. They were invited to come hang out and hunt down the special icons in the surrounding area. At 5:30, we all packed up and headed over to Food Truck Fandango. Elliot and his team worked with a local food truck group that sets up every Friday night in a parking lot. Each food truck had a Munzee on it, so everyone, both Munzee players and the general public, were able to see what Munzee is about. Rob and Matt were shamefully beat in a game of Trouble by two teenagers. After a few hours of eating (way too much) amazing food and capping, everyone headed home for the night.

Saturday

Saturday began bright and early with a breakfast event. We all met up, ate, and capped some before heading to the main event. We all migrated to Yorba Regional Park for the real fun. Between capping and eating, Rob executed his Presidential duties of shaking hand and kissing babies (and/or scaring children 😉 ) while Matt and Robbie played Frisbee and other games with attendees. Robbie then integrated the first WallaBee event with Munzee. Everyone then switched gears to take pictures for the Eventzee portion of the day. We ended the event with prizes and some announcements from Rob. We couldn’t end their, of course, so we headed out to dinner at a local restaurant.

We overran Knowlwood down the street for some more great food and one-on-one interaction with players. Matt tested some new toys, and Rob reclaimed his gaming throne by beating everyone (including Matt) at air hockey. He was (and still is) very pleased with himself.

Sunday

Though the official MM5 events were over, Matt and Rob weren’t done quite yet. They took a drive out to the desert to revive some of first special icons ever to appear on the Munzee map. There are now 3 WaywardNation icons live on the map in the Southern California area.

Now you may be wondering why we wanted to share these things with you (other than you know we like to talk about ourselves). To us, attending events is very special. When we’re at the office, we really only get to see one side of Munzee. We’re constantly trying to come up with new ideas, improve the game, and generally make everything run smoothly. When we’re out at events or in the field, though, we get to experience what you do. We see what happens. We get to talk to players one-on-one and hear their experiences. We get to actually interact with the people that make this game so great. We don’t go to events for the attention or for pats on the back. We go because we appreciate everything you do and want to help your events in any way we can. So long story short, thank you. You are the ones who make this game so great, and everything we do, we do for you. #MunzeeOn

Events Updates

Louise wanted to pass on some information regarding events and the calendar, so here we go!

Lucky Dip Prizes
Players who won a gift of Christmas Future in the Lucky Dip during Christmas events will receive a Virtual Resort on March 1st.

Event Badges
There are new badges available for hosting and attending events with over 50, 100, 150, and 200 attendees. Easter events are a great time to get involved and earn them!

Munzee Calendar
Coming from player suggestions, our developers have added a “Add to Google Calendar” button to each event on the calendar.

Also, there’s now a link to the worldwide events map at the top of the calendar (just underneath the “Munzee Calendar” title).

Louise is also working on some new additions for events including more choices for temporary specials and prizes!

Easter Events Update

Just a reminder: After this Friday (February 19th), we will only be offering generic artwork choices for Easter Events. If you haven’t submitted your artwork, you still have time!

If you’re still thinking about hosting an Easter Event, there’s still plenty of time to get events on the calendar! The dates for the Easter Events are Thursday 17th March – Sunday 10th April, and you can check out the original blog post here.

Louise is “chuffed with how, as always, players have got on board with the events”. There are almost 50 Easter Events on the calendar, so if you aren’t hosting your own, there are plenty to choose from!

Munzee’s Birthday and MHQ Bash 3

Yesterday we posted about Easter and Spring events. We’ve got some pretty big events this year, too, though. Here’s some information regarding Munzee’s 5th Birthday and MHQ Bash 3.

Munzee’s 5th Birthday

It’s hard to believe it’s been 5 years. We couldn’t have gotten to this point without our amazing players, and we can’t thank you enough. We want to spread the celebration, though, so we’re taking our birthday party on the road! This year, we’ll be celebrating Munzee’s 5th birthday in Denver, Colorado! We’re still finalizing details, but members of Team Munzee will be in Denver from June 30th through July 4th. We’ll be posting more information as the time draws closer, but we’ve got events on the calendar so you can let us know you’ll be there!

MHQ Bash 3

MHQ Bash kicked off an annual tradition of getting involved with our community and players on a face-to-face, personal level. We grew upon that to make MHQ Bash 2 bigger and better. We’re continuing that with MHQ Bash 3 this year! We invite everyone to come hang out with us for a weekend of Munzee fun on October 7th, 8th, and 9th here in McKinney, Texas. Events are already on the calendar, and we’ll be posting full information regarding locations and packages soon.

We’re extremely excited to meet new people and see old friends at these events! We hope to see you there! Munzee on!

Gearing Up for Spring Events!

Well Rob, errr, Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow this morning, and an early Spring was predicted! That’s good because the Munzee team is ready to get out to events! Here is a list of some we’re going to!

February
2/26: Munzee with Team Munzee – February

  • Come hang out with Team Munzee on Friday, February 26th as we go out into the world and play!

2/29: Munzee Marketplace Cocoa Beach Grand Opening

  • Rob is going to be in Florida for Leap Year Day and the grand opening of the Munzee Marketplace Cocoa Beach!

March
3/4-5: Munzee Madness 5

3/19: Beyond the Pale

  • Matt is going to Vancouver (assuming freak tornadoes don’t keep him grounded again) to help kick off Easter events at the Beyond the Pale event. “Leprechaun wearing a cowboy hat”, huh? He may be able to work something out there.

That’s what we have scheduled so far, but we don’t want to stop there! If you’ve got an event planned already and want someone from MHQ there, let us know by emailing louise@munzee.com! We want to get out and grow the community as much as we can. If you haven’t planned an event yet, there’s still time! You can check out our blog post about Easter events and get in touch with the Event Queen, Louise, to get them on the calendar!

We can’t wait to see you at events! Munzee on!
