Introducing the Hydra Mythological Munzee!

It’s been three month’s since the Faun Mythological Munzee introduced the Classical Mythology set of munzees and began guiding players around the world on their quests. Some members of Team Munzee were in search of the Fountain of Youth and found another Mythological Munzee that was not helpful at all. In fact, this new beast stands guard to protect the Fountain. This Mythological Munzee is the Hydra.

On Wednesday, May 17th at 15:00 MHQ time, 1,500 Hydra Mythological Munzees will be available in the Munzee Online Store for $20.00. Like the Faun before it, each player is limited to one (1) Hydra Munzee per account, and the sale is open to anyone regardless of other Mythological ownership.

There will also be Hydra Munzee decals available, as well as Yeti and Faun Munzee decals, at that time.

Details:

Name: The Hydra

Description: The Hydra Munzee bounces on greenies every 12 hours or when captured. Each is numbered and owned by a Munzee player. Only 1 Hydra Munzee is allowed per account. You will also earn the Hydra badge for owning a Hydra Munzee.

Points:

  • Deploy: 100
  • Capture: 100
  • CapOn: 100

Matt’s Been Flattened!

In November 2015 Flat Rob was released and he’s been traveling the world ever since. All that travel can be a bit lonely though, so we’re excited to announce that he now has a similarly two-dimensional friend- Flat Matt!

After three years with Team Munzee we’ve finally put enough pressure on Matt McCann to flatten him! The first Flat Matt has been released as a permanent MHQ special at our Open House today and they’ll go on sale for the public on June 1st. Flat Matts work much like Flat Robs, but there are some differences.

Flat Robs may be activated when Rob is traveling, but Flat Matts are activated based on specific sporting event schedules. Exactly what schedules? Well we can’t spill all of Flat Matt’s secrets! Stay tuned for more gameplay details when Flat Matts go on sale next month.

To celebrate Flat Matt’s global release MHQ is hosting a Munzee Event at the Frisco Roughriders baseball game Thursday June 1st and we’d love for you to join us! Be sure to RSVP on the Munzee Calendar. We’ll have more details about the event in a couple weeks so stay tuned for more info!

Safar-Zee Fundraising Update!

Following our Safar-Zee fundraising efforts we wanted to update you all on where some of the donations are going! We changed up our donation process this time around and instead of donating one lump sum to a single organization we have been making smaller donations to various animal and wildlife organizations worldwide.

In addition to In-Sync Exotics and our pal Mystery, below are some of the organizations members of our staff have chosen to receive donations on behalf of our players.

Thank you again for your awesome support for animals worldwide- we couldn’t do this without you! Munzee on!

Wildlife Warriors Worldwide
https://wildlifewarriors.org.au/
Chosen by Rob Vardeman, CZeeO

“Established by Crocodile Hunters Steve and Terri Irwin in 2002, the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors strive to be the most effective wildlife conservation organization in the world through the delivery of outstanding outcome-based programs and projects, inclusive of humanity.”

Animal Angels Sanctuary
www.animalangelstexas.org
Chosen by Cecie Newman, EVP of Operations

“My son and his family couldn’t keep 2 of their dogs. They were heartbroken until they came across this organization that is a 38 acre haven for abused animals and pets that can no longer be taken care of properly. They promise that 100% of every donation goes directly to animal benefit, paying no salaries for Staff or Board of Directors.”

Cat Matchers
http://www.catmatchers.org
Chosen by Teraca Grim – Director of HR and Operations

“I am a huge cat lover. I know all the hard work that Cat Matchers does to help unwanted or lost cats. I have reached out to them and know what nice people they are and how much they need donations. ”

North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary
http://www.ntrs.org/
Chosen by Scott Foster, VP of Technology

“My 6 year old daughter begs my wife and I everyday that she wants a rabbit as a pet. This donation will help explain to the public ( and my daughter ) how to take care of rabbits, what equipment is needed, and what food they need.”

The Beagle Freedom Project
https://bfp.org/
Chosen by Dylan Derryberry, Director of Creative Operations

“Beagle Freedom Project negotiates with laboratories across the world to secure the release of dogs and other animals and give them a chance at a normal home life after everything they have endured for vanity and scientific curiosity. The organization uses the rescues to draw public attention to the plight of animals languishing in labs and to promote cruelty-free lifestyle choices everyone can make.

The beagles act as ambassadors who give faces to animal testing victims and remind the public that these animals are not just furry test-tubes, but dogs no different from their pets. BFP has rescued hundreds of animals, including beagles, mixed-breed hounds, cats, rabbits, ponies, pigs, goats, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, and even goldfish from laboratories, in cities and countries spanning the globe.”

Sea Turtle, Inc.
http://www.seaturtleinc.org
Chosen by Matt McCann, Director of Media and Player Relations

“Growing up by the ocean, wildlife preservation and restoration was a focal point of my community. Sea Turtle, Inc. was a large part of that. They rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles as well as educate the public and assist with conservation efforts. I’m proud to donate to such a great cause that I grew up being able to help first hand..”

Tiggywinkles
http://www.sttiggywinkles.org.uk/
Chosen by Louise Gibson, Events Queen

“Tiggywinkles is a wonderful place, it’s a specialist hospital dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating all species of British wildlife. All casualties brought to the hospital are treated completely free of charge and are released through a controlled programme, back to the wild, when they are fully fit. Every casualty is given a chance and any animal or bird unable to be released back to the wild is maintained at the hospital, in as natural conditions as possible.

Tiggywinkles survives on a solid base of membership and relies on donations from the general public and sponsors to thrive. It receives no state funding of any kind and no financial assistance from conservation groups. Our money would really make a difference. We could adopt Al Pacino the Fox, Susie the Hedgehog and Roxy the Raven to name a few or make a one off donation. I love the story of how and why the hospital was created by Les Stocker and everything he and his family have done to keep the place going. Sadly Les died last year but we can help his legacy live on: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2016/07/19/les-stocker-st-tiggywinkles-founder–obituary/

Tierschutzverein Chemnitz und Umgebung e.V.
http://www.tierschutz-chemnitz.de
Chosen by Daniel Fischer, Backend Developer

“The “Tierschutzverein Chemnitz e.V.” is a non-profit society running the local animal shelter in Chemnitz/Germany. They take care of 800 to 900 animals per year who suffer hardship. Beside hosting and caregiving found or stray animals, they also try to raise awareness about animal protection and acting responsibly towards also pets and wildlife. The society receives municipal subsidization, but is highly dependent on additional donations.”

Adams County SPCA
http://www.adamscountyspca.org
Chosen by Daniel Hammock, Player Support

“Adams county SPCA throws events to help raise funds for the animals. Plus they have a network of helpers who drive long distances to rescue other dogs from shelters and adopt them out through their shelter.”

Texas Little Cuties Rescue
http://www.texaslittlecuties.org/
Chosen by Donovan Carreno, Mobile App Developer

“We have adopted from them, and we like to support our local shelters..”

Animal Welfare Institute
http://www.awionline.org/
Chosen by Dan Parker, Mobile App Developer

“This organization spends over 90% of donated funds on its programs. It is rare that a charitable organization spends over 90% of donations on what they claim to do because there are administrative costs to running any organization. This high percentage of funds allocated to purpose shows the company’s commitment to their cause. I respect that.”

Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
http://www.rogerswildlife.org
Chosen by Judy Nguyen, Front End Developer

“I like birds.”

Denton Animal Support Foundation
http://www.dentonasf.com/
Chosen by Delana Adams, Eventzee Customer Service

“This is the organization that helped keep my current fur babies in the shelter for as long as they did (they’re older dogs), so they hold a special place in my heart. Without DASF we might not have found them. This organization helps with the adoption subsidy of older and harder to adopt animals, and helps find homes for animals uprooted from their homes.”

National Wildlife Refuge Association
http://refugeassociation.org/about/donate/
Chosen by Trish Vandehey, Graphic Illustrator

“I grew up in the forests of the Pacific Northwest wandering through nature with friends and family, and my best memories of childhood are all closely related to this. Even now, it plays a strong role in my adult life. When I am not working you will often find me exploring the woods or lakes, taking long hikes and watching wildlife with my children and grandchild. Preserving wildlife and spaces for them to flourish for future generations is paramount. Because of their focus in the conservation of wildlife and habitat in North America I have chosen to donate to the National Wildlife Refuge.”

Lovebugs Rescue
http://www.lovebugsrescue.org/
Chosen by Robbie McGuire, WallaBee Director

“Kelsey and I have two dogs, both of which are from rescues. Tessa was rescued from a shelter here in Texas, but Rollie was adopted from Lovebugs Rescue in CA. Lovebugs is a non-profit animal rescue organization that works with local Southern California shelters to lower the number of euthanized animals. For more information, check out their website.”

ASPCA
https://www.aspca.org/
Chosen by John Rogeles, Graphic Artist

“I want to give back to the people who have given me so much through my dog.”

Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary
https://saintfranciswolfsanctuary.org/
Chosen by Sheryl Marusic, Queen Of All Trades

“This is a charity for wolves, who are dear to my heart. Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity in Montgomery, Texas, whose mission is to rescue and provide a loving, exceptional home to non-releasable wolves and wolfdogs, and to educate the public about these animals.”

Player of the Week: Sally Hopkins (nuttynan)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Sally Hopkins (nuttynan).

Who are you?
Username – nuttynan, Real Name – Sally Hopkins

Where in the world do you live?
Malvem, UK which is in the middle of the country, and until recently, had very few munzees or active players. That has now changed. ;P

How long have you played Munzee?
Since November 2015.

How did you find Munzee?
Babydane (Sophie Simpson) is an old friend of mine who has played Munzee for many years. When she heard I was giving lectures in Tampa, Florida and various cities in Australia in November and December 2015, she recognised the amazing opportunity I would have to do some serious Munzeeing. So, she introduced me to the basic principles of the game, and off I went as a complete novice to these amazing Munzee locations. What an amazing start I had!

I was truly blessed to meet some very inspirational role models while I was capping those first few weeks. Hunnies and dt07751 very kindly introduced themselves to me while I was capping near the Brandon shopping mall, and we have kept in touch ever since. Hunnies then put me in touch with CrazyLadyLisa in Perth so that when I arrived she traveled 6 hours round trip to meet me and teach me about deploying. Then, she invited me to their Christmas event, and I learned about running an event and Eventzee as well. That was it…. I was totally hooked!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Oh, no question — deploying. I just can’t stop myself! I have always been fascinated with maps and exploring new locations. I look at maps to see loops and patterns that I can use for effective deploying. For instance, the “Rings of Fire” I designed in Pershore, UK which enclose a limited number of easily accessible greenies for the Fire scatters. I just love offering Munzee players great capping experiences and holding events and growing the map. I also love chasing Mythologicals as there are few Munzees for me to capture without traveling 2-3 hours. I have a family of hand puppets and soft toys that I leave a photo on each Myth I cap.

What is on your wish list?
I desperately want to capture and travel more often, buy family commitments mean at present that is difficult to do. Hopefully, this year I can fulfill this wish.

I would really like to see more badges for capping and deploying, particularly capping Greenies and Clan Weapons.

I would also love to have Virtual Fairies flitting around the world, landing on virtuals of the colour of each type of Fairy, Rather than being owned or moving on after being captured, it would be great if they remained to be capped by local players (one cap per player) for say 6-12 hours so that those working could have the time and opportunity to cap them as well. The host of the virtual which the Fairy landed on would get plenty of CapOn points as well.

Tell us about yourself!
I have worked in the dog industry for over 20 years, teaching and lecturing dog trainers and behaviourists around the world. I also invented a world renowned design of dog harness which my company makes and sells worldwide. I am now retired and Munzee almost every day instead.

Other hobbies include:
Walking, chasing Myths, and caring for my dog, husband, and grandkids (in that order lol). I have just been given for my birthday an amazing adult scooter with suspension for added comfort which I plan to use for capping scatters and at events.

Any last words?
I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone in the worldwide Munzee family for their kindness, generosity, and friendship that I have experiences on a daily basis. Whether it be capping one of my deploys or deploying for me to cap, this game brings us closer together wherever we are in the world. And, by the way… yes, I truly am “nutty nan” — my children and grandchildren lovingly call me that on a regular basis <3

nuttynan has included some socials, so cap away!

ZeeOps: May Missions

In April our ZeeOps Agents stopped the Mean Green Gang from using secret Fire and Ice technology for evil with the help of the secret organization of resellers known as R.U.M.! An agent’s job is never done though, so prepare for another month of twists and turns.

Following your victories last month the Mean Green Gang has gone on the run. It’s up to you to find where they’re hiding by searching Munzee Destinations worldwide. Simply searching various Destinations won’t be enough to find the hidden Mean Green Gang members though. Prove the area is secured by renting rooms in Destination Munzees of any type.
