Munzee 4.0 Is Finally HERE! New Features and Updates Explained!

We know that you have all been patiently waiting for the new and improved 4.0 version of the Munzee app, and we are happy to announce that it has finally arrived! That’s right, the wait is over.

You can download the iOS version of the new app HERE!

This is an entirely new build, so you will not update your current version 3 of the Munzee app. Instead you will need to search for the new version in your phone’s app store. Please remember that the app may take some time to propagate, so if you don’t see it in the App or Google Play Store, just give it some time. We will be keeping version 3 of the app active temporarily, but we do plan to shut down that version in the near future, so just go ahead and download 4.0 today!

But before you jump into the newly updated game, complete with brand new features, allow us to break down some of our favorite things about 4.0!

The latest version of everyone’s favorite game is a foundation for us to build upon. We consider it a vision for the future, with additional tools being added regularly as we move forward. Due to limitations from version 3, we’ve had to delay some awesome features in the past, but this will limit us no more! We have some big ideas ahead, but for now let’s take a look at what 4.0 has to offer!

Main Feature Updates

  • New and improved map loading speed.
  • New square pins for Physical Munzees and round pins for Virtual Munzees.
  • Updated artwork to include all types in pin form to more precisely show the location of the munzee.
  • New interactive walkthrough tutorial hosted by our buddy the newly energized Rover.
  • Reorganization of filters into categories, making them easier to sort through.
  • Players can now combine multiple premium filters at a time.
  • Larger, cleaner font throughout the game.
  • Improved compass that more clearly indicates the Northern point.
  • Improved follow feature to keep player marker centered on the map.
  • New in-app announcements system that will deliver news directly to the players.

Additional Updates

  • The Munzee capture button at the bottom changes between square and round depending on the type selected on the map so you always know which type you’re looking for.
  • Pouch Creatures and Evolution Munzees now include stage numbers.
  • New “All Alternamyths” and “All Places” premium filters.
  • Filters are now applied immediately. Players do not need to save each time they choose filters.
  • Players can now see what filters they have set for each preset, making it easier to edit and make changes.
  • Magnet and Special timers now show down to the minutes/seconds.
  • Added a new “Inventory” section to the profile, making it more clear to new players what they have available to deploy.
  • Players can now quickly tap to capture from the List view using the new green arrow buttons, instead of sliding the entry in the list then tapping to cap.
  • Tapping on badge notifications in the activity feed now takes you to that specific badge in your collection. 
  • Added countdown timer to the leaderboards for when it will reset in MHQ time.

Share with Friends

We know that playing Munzee can be a bit overwhelming to new players, but many of our most diehard fans appreciate the complexity and pride that comes with mastering this multi-layered game. Luckily with our new in-app tutorial for new players, it’s easier than ever to introduce new players to Munzee. That’s why we’re asking our players to share 4.0 with their friends and family! 

As a limited time extension to our current Munzee Referral Program, we will host a referral contest starting next week! Help us share the new app and Grow the Game for a chance to earn a limited edition badge, prizes, and more! We’ll have more information next week, but this contest will not be retroactive, and it will only run from February 1 through 28.

While you’re waiting for those details, though, head over to the Freeze Tag Online Store and download a free Custom Referral Card. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to introduce new players to the game and get rewarded for it. The Custom Referral Card will contain your personal Referral code to share with new players. The more shares, the more rewards!

We will also be running several sales tomorrow in celebration of the 4.0 update release! There will be a separate blog post detailing those sales today at 12:00 MHQ, and all sales will begin at 12:15 MHQ.

We know this is long overdue, but we can’t explain enough how many possibilities this opens for the future. The whole team has worked so hard for this release, and we’re ready to keep the momentum moving forward! Thank you to the beta testers for their support (and constructive criticisms) throughout this process. This app would not be what it is today if it wasn’t for them.

LegaZeeOps- Operation: The End

Agents, ZeeOps HQ’s system has been hacked and all of our files on past missions have been erased! You’ll have to recreate past Operations in what we’re calling LegaZeeOps. It’s up to you to keep the legacy of this organization in tact. The missions for this month are the same that were previously available in July 2018’s Operations.

The final moves are about to be played. The war between the First Clan and The Rising Sons has come to a head and the safety of the world hangs in the balance. To make matter worse The Zodiac Vigilante and his hoard of Evolution Munzees are fighting back. The Vigilante has joined forces with the R.U.M. and the Mean Green Gang, whose aggressive tactics are a danger to civilians.

The final chapter of this ongoing war is upon us and it’s up to ZeeOps Agents worldwide to join together!

February 2019 ZeeOps Operations are now live and you can begin planning your Missions to start on the following day. You can plan your Operations at munzee.com/ops/ and purchase more ZeeCred in the Freeze Tag Online Store. Remember that if you hit a snag at any point in your Operation you can use the Mission Mulligan feature to keep going!

This month features a lot of different Munzee types so be sure to stock up in the online store.

By completing any Operation this month you’ll earn the new* “LegaZeeOps- Operation: The End” badge.

*Due to requests from the community all LegaZeeOps badges will now be different from the badge earned during the initial run of the month’s Operations. So players who earned the “Operation: The End” badge in July 2018 can also earn the “LegaZeeOps- Operation: The End” badge as well by completing a February 2019 Operation.

This month’s Missions are as follows:

LEVEL 1:

Basic Training +- Earn at least 1,000 points.
Clan Classification- Capture at least 5 of ANY type of evolution munzee and at least 5 of any type of Clan Weapon
Green Gauntlets- Deploy at least 5 greenies and deploy at least 5 clan weapons of any type.
Celestial Swashbucklers- Capture at least 5 of any type of Zodiac munzees, at least 5 of any type of RUMs, AND at least 5 of any type of Evolution munzees.
Sea of Stars- Deploy at least 5 of any type of Zodiac munzees AND at least 5 of any type of RUMs. 

LEVEL 2:

Green Gear- Going Green – Capture at least 20 greenies and deploy at least 10 greenies.
Clan Captives – Capture at least 25 greenies AND at least 10 clan weapons of any type
R.U.M. Rescue- Capture at least 10 of any type of Zodiac munzees AND at least 5 RUMs AND at least 5 of any type of Evolution munzees
R.U.M. Relay- Deploy at least 5 of any type of RUMs, at least 5 of any type of clan weapon munzees AND at least 5 of any type of Evolution munzees
Green Gallows- Capture at least 10 Evolution munzees and capture at least 5 RUMs AND deploy at least 3 of any type of Evolution munzees and at least 10 greenies.

LEVEL 3:

From The Outside In- Deploy at least 50 greenies.
Green Getaway- Deploy at least 25 greenies AND at least 15 of any type of clan weapons
Misleading Meeting- Capture at least 10 of any type of Zodiac munzees, at least 10 of any type of Evolution munzees, at least 10 of any type of RUMs AND at least 10 greenies
Chemical Copycat- Capture at least 20 and deploy at least 10 of any type of Zodiac munzees AND capture at least 20 and deploy at least 10 of any type of Evolution munzees
Clan Chemist- Deploy at least 15 Evolution munzees AND at least 20 of any type of Clan Weapon

LEVEL 4:

Bad Bait- Deploy at least 15 greenies, at least 15 of any type of PHYSICAL clan weapon munzees, at least 15 of any PHYSICAL type of evolution munzees AND at least 5 RUMs
Year Of The Copycat– Capture at least 5 Chinese Zodiac munzees, at least 25 of any type of PHYSICAL clan weapon munzees, at least 10 RUMs, AND at least 10 of any type of PHYSICAL Evolution munzees
Battle Royale- Deploy at least 10 Chinese Zodiac munzees, at least 15 RUMs munzees, AND at least 25 of any PHYSICAL type of clan weapon munzees
The Final Stand– Capture at least 50 greenies AND deploy at least 10 of any type of PHYSICAL clan weapon munzees and at least 10 of any type of Zodiac munzees
The End?– Deploy at least 100 greenies.

Completing Operations will give you some hard earned rewards as well.

Advanced Op

Global Grub Special Dropping This Afternoon!

This Munzee Monday is equipped with a very special announcement. While some of our American players are enjoying the three-day weekend, we are excited to announce that our first of nearly two dozen Global Grub specials for the year will be launching this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. So strap on your walking shoes, because it’s time to explore our latest feature!

The Global Grub specials are very rare munzees that will bounce around the world for the remainder of the year. That means you’ll be spending the next eleven months capturing pins featuring different country flags in order to earn badges sporting a unique dish of food for each country. That’s right, your culinary palette is about to expand!

Our first Global Grub special to launch is a physical munzee, featuring the flag for Switzerland. Only one will be deployed, and it will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Magnets though so be sure to stock up! 

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Players will earn a badge for each different Global Grub they capture starting with the La Fondue badge for capturing the Switzerland pin! Down the line, we’ll also be putting out an overall capture line, so stay tuned for more.

Each Global Grub Munzee will go live at 15:00 MHQ on their assigned day. We’re not announcing when each launch will be, but we expect to release a couple specials each month.

All Global Grub specials will leave the map on 12/31/2019 at 23:59 MHQ. Until then, you’ll be able to capture the Global Grub specials on other players’ Greenies as well as your own. Although there is only one Switzerland Global Grub Special, future releases may include more. You’ll just have to wait and see! Some of these specials will be physical, while others will be virtual. Keep in mind that virtuals will not be blastable.

Turn back time with the Evolution Munzee Reset credit!

As more and more Evolution Munzees hit their final levels, we wanted to offer players the opportunity to reset Evos on their own terms. We’re excited to announce new Evo Reset credits that players can use to return their Evos to level one on a case by case basis!

Evo Reset credits are now available in the Freeze Tag Online Store and cost $0.25 each. They can be used once each on individual Evolution Munzees of any type. Our hope is that this option will allow new players the opportunity to cap early levels without owners having to wait on MHQ to do worldwide resets. This will also be a tool for even more CapOn points on munzees you already own!

Similar to past worldwide resets, these new credits will not allow other players to re-cap these munzees again, but the earlier stages will be available to players who have not capped that particular stage.

Using an Evo Reset credit is easy! Since you won’t have to go to the actual Evo’s location, this credit can only be used from your player profile on the Munzee website. Simply go to that Munzee’s details page and you’ll see a button that says “Reset Evolution.” Just click that and you’ll be prompted to use the credit. This will then reset that Evo back to level one!

As we get closer to rolling out Version 4.0 of the app we’ll also be updating the Evo designs to better showcase the current level of that Munzee.  Below are just a sample of the various Evolution Munzees, but you’ll also notice the distinction between physical and virtual munzees as well. A large part of our 4.0 redesigns are to make our gameplay experiences easier to understand for new and veteran players alike. This update is a direct result of a recent suggestion by one of our beta testers!

New Year’s Resolution Streak Badges!

With the new year nearly here, we’ve all got ways we’d like to better ourselves in 2019. Easier said than done, right? Well we know how tough it is to keep up with new year’s resolutions so we’ve put together a rewards system to help keep you on track! How you ask? By capping munzees of course!

We’re excited to announce that starting January 1st we’re launching monthly Capture Streak Badges focused on various New Year’s Resolutions. Similar to the Super Streak badges all you have to do is capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. If you can make it through the whole month you’ll be awarded a badge themed to that month’s resolution goal!

To kick things off we’re all going to try and eat better in January! Look, nobody likes french fries and desserts more than us, but we need a little more greenery in our lives! 

Did you know?

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, just 1 in 10 adults in the US eat the recommended amount of fruit or vegetables? Depending on various factors federal guidelines recommend that adults eat at least 1½ to 2 cups per day of fruit and 2 to 3 cups per day of vegetables.  By having fruits and vegetables in your daily diet you can reduce the risk of many leading causes of illness and death, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and obesity. While some countries may have a better percentage of healthy eaters than the US we know there is always room for improvement!

The more you know, right?!

We know capping a munzee each day won’t magically make you eat better, but we hope as you work towards this capture streak you think about grabbing an apple on your way back! We’re all in this together and if nothing else it will help you get one step closer to the yearlong capture and deploy streak badges. We’ll have a different resolution badge design each month, but try and keep up with your resolutions throughout the year! We believe in you!

Don’t Get Caught Flat-Footed with the new Flat Nomad Munzee!

Tomorrow is 2x points on Nomads and RetireMyths for those that purchased Advent Calendars. We have another surprise launching on that special day for everyone! We’re excited to announce the new Virtual Flat Nomad Munzee!

Prepare For Year-Round Fun With The Seasonal Nomad Munzee!

Following the point increase on Nomad Munzees, we’re excited to announce a new roaming recluse. Say “Seasons Greetings” to the Seasonal Nomad Munzee!

Since Clan Wars this month require you to cap a few Nomads, we thought we’d give you all a little heads up that these will launch tomorrow at 10:00 MHQ.

Beginning Wednesday, Nov 21st at 10:00 MHQ time 10 Seasonal Nomads will start bouncing on Seasonal Munzees every 12 hours or when captured. Like other Nomads, you will earn 500 points for capturing a Seasonal Nomad and the owner of the host Seasonal Munzee will earn 250 points.
