An Update to Premium Membership Benefits

Lately we’ve made many updates to Premium Memberships. Just last September, we created the Monthly Premium Membership which we thought would be useful to those who only need Premium abilities at certain times of the year. Two months later, we added the ability for Premium users to use filtered blasts. Last month, we experimented with our first ZEE-Dayz exclusively for Premium Members.

This update brings more improvements to the Premium Membership. To make sure you’re adequately informed, we’ve written this blog post so that you will know of the changes in advance.

The changes described below will be effective as of 12:00 MHQ on Monday, May 2nd.

Out the Door

At the time stated above, the Munzee app will no longer support the Multi-User Login (MUL) feature. Our team has gone back and forth on this feature for quite some time, so we feel we owe our players some transparency as to how we came to this decision.

When the game was first introduced almost 11 years ago, the MUL was created for families who played together and only owned 1 device. Over the years devices for multiple family members have become more common, and although we understand the convenience the MUL has been more trouble than we would like.

Our evaluation of the MUL went something like this:

Pros Cons
  • Allow families with multiple Munzee players to easily play on one device
  • Quick access for another player if battery dies or signal is lost
  • Most families with multiple Munzee players are now able to provide a device for each player
  • Players who create fake accounts take advantage of this feature to quickly accumulate points or meet requirements for Clan Wars, badges, etc.
  • Development time is increased as new app features must distinguish between the active account and any other logged-in accounts
  • Testing time is also increased as we must make sure that all app features work even as we quickly switch between 3 different accounts
  • The ability to quickly switch between accounts is quite rare among apps — a unique feature rather than one that is standard

Knowing that the original purpose of the MUL has been outgrown, along with all the other cons listed above, we have decided to remove the MUL from the app.

In light of this change, we encourage players to carry external batteries to keep their main device charged and/or bring extra devices in case issues come up so that they can switch and continue playing — things which many of you are already in the habit of doing.

Otherwise, it just takes a few extra steps to log out and then log in to another account the old-fashioned way.

In Comes More

We understand some will be upset by the decision to remove MUL, but we want to continue to offer a positive Premium Membership experience. So we’re excited to announce that we are in the process of testing out 2 NEW additional features we think all Premium Members will enjoy. Please understand that these new features are a trial/test and we want to gather feedback from players to make sure this is an appropriate addition to the game.

  • This will bring the total to 10 custom filter presets!
  • Standard munzees will now attract 4 bouncers
  • Landing Pad Destinations will now attract 7 bouncers

Stage Your Own Antarctic Musical with NEW Mechz!

We promised there would be more animal-themed releases… so, just in time for World Penguin Day, we’ve added yet another avian friend to our roster! This time, however, it’s in Mech form!

NEW Mech Details

Like the other Munzee Mechz, the P3N9U1N and Emperor P3N9U1N are temporary POBs. The P3N9U1N will remain on the map until it has been captured 5 times, while the Emperor P3N9U1N will remain on the map until it has been captured 10 times, as you can see below.

You have the option of purchasing individual P3N9U1Ns HERE or a pack containing 4 P3N9U1Ns, 1 Emperor P3N9U1N, and 13 Cogs HERE. They’ll be in the store until 12:00 MHQ on May 2nd.

You can find these buoyant birds swimming to the landing pads above every 6 hours or when captured.

P3N9U1Ns and Emperor P3N9U1Ns will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture P3N9U1Ns and Emperor P3N9U1Ns on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same P3N9U1N or Emperor P3N9U1N visits you. P3N9U1Ns and Emperor P3N9U1Ns are non-blastable. They will be attracted to both Physical Magnets and Virtual Magnets. You can access P3N9U1Ns and Emperor P3N9U1Ns by turning on your “All Expiring Specials” filter.

When a P3N9U1N is captured, it will scatter up to 3 M4CK3RELs. Similarly, when an Emperor P3N9U1N is captured, it will scatter up to 3 KiNG M4CK3RELs.

These scatters will be visible to any player and will be deployed on the Mech owner’s account. This means that unlike Air Mystery Feathers/Boulders, there are CapOn points for the owner! They expire after 120 minutes and have a capture radius of 300 feet. These scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks, ZeeOps, or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

Badges

As with other Munzee Mechz, the badges for deploying the P3N9U1N and Emperor P3N9U1N depict the Blueprints, and are shown below:

There is also a badge for capturing a P3N9U1N or an Emperor P3N9U1N. Since there’s only one badge in this line, we’ll keep it a secret for now.

May 2022 Skin: Graduate Flamingo

As the month comes to a close, we wanted to make sure you were heading into May with your desired Flamingos! The skin for completing your April capture streak (and the corresponding badge), which is the Foolish Garden Flamingo shown below, will be awarded in early May. But, we couldn’t wait to share what’s in store for next month!

April Flamingo Reminders

If you haven’t picked up a Flamingo yet, they are available in the Freeze Tag Store for $9.

Each month, the price of a Flamingo will decrease by $1. However, players can only purchase 1 Flamingo every 28 days.

Don’t forget that you’ll need to own at least 8 Flamingos by the end of the year to have a permanent one next year — so make sure to stock up soon if you’re a fan of these brightly-colored lawn decorations!

What Flamingo Skin can you look forward to earning in May? The distinguished Graduate Garden Flamingo! Like the other flamingos, the Graduate Garden Flamingo is a temporary POB that will remain on the map as long as players with permanent Garden Flamingos continue to use it.

April 2022 GOTM Winners

This month was one for fans of furry and feathered friends. We kicked things off with a wild and wacky Flamingo-filled April Fool’s Day celebration! The next week, we stretched the meaning of the word “pet” with new Pet Rock specials to collect. A cute new Duck Evolution also made its debut, as it’s been a while since the last one (the Bee) was released.

The week after that, we released Mari’s Flat Object, the Flat Cats — we didn’t want Flat Murray to be lonely as the only Flat Pet! We also had a ZEE-Dayz for QRew and ZeeQRew members (not very animal-themed, but didn’t want to leave it out!).

Lastly, earlier this week, we put out some new specials to chase — the Animal QRackers. But we aren’t done with all the animal-themed fun we’ve planned for the month — keep an eye out for more releases as we head into May!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the April Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early May, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

With the release of the Flat Cats, we couldn’t resist choosing the winners below! They’re just the right colors too — one black and one orange! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Egyptian Cat garden, designed by BonnieB1 for denali0407, and the Aphrodite’s Cat garden, designed by purplecourgette, as our winning April GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

A unique design to highlight the year of Egyptian Zodiacs and includes all 12 zodiacs. Finished early in December 2021 when the last Zodiac was released in Munzpaks! Adapted specifically for the town of Weatherford, Texas for a longtime player and my Munzee mentor and friend denali0407! Now there are two jewels in Weatherford!

This striking design definitely caught our eye last year — we were just waiting for the perfect occasion to put it into the spotlight! It’s a must-visit for fans of the Egyptian Zodiacs, and if you’re missing any badges you’ll be sure to fill in any gaps as you cap!

Aphrodite’s Cat by purplecourgette in Erimi, Cyprus

This cat’s fur is a unique patchwork of Clan Weapons, Jewels, Electric Mysteries, and of course, Virtual Colors. Night Vision Goggles were used for the darker details!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

This garden was set-up for a player based in Cyprus. There are more cats in Cyprus than human beings! They are all over the place and it is attributed to the fact that domestication of cats first started, in all probability, in Cyprus. The Goddess Aphrodite was born in Cyprus… maybe she had a cat!? [;)]

We really appreciate purplecourgette’s note, as it was quite intriguing! First, because we don’t often hear of players based in Cyprus — definitely curious to find out more about the map there, and if there are ways we can help grow the community — and second, the fun facts about cats and Aphrodite! We definitely think she would enjoy the company of cats!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Need MORE Pets? Mari’s Flat Object is Actually 2-in-1!

You didn’t really think we’d celebrate National Pet Day with just Pet Rocks, did you? If so — consider it a late April Fool’s prank! With so many loveable pets out there, we knew we had to include a crowd-pleasing, cute, and cuddly animal in the festivities. We got more than we bargained for, as you’ll see — one became two!

The seventh Flat Object is brought to you by Mari, our productive Product Manager! She is the one who keeps MHQ running like a well-oiled machine! Thanks to her diligence in planning things well in advance, we’ve managed to meet a lot of our goals on schedule, rather than 1,000 hours each time! If you’ve attended any of the Munzee Events we’ve hosted in the past, you may have met Mari, but for those who haven’t been fortunate enough to get to know her, or would like a refresher, you can check out her most recent Meet Munzee Munzday post HERE!

Mari’s Flat Object is similar to Wylie’s in that it may be more accurately described as Flat Pets — but as it follows the same structure as other Flat Objects, we’ll still call it one for consistency. Say hello to the Flat Cats, based on her cats Benji and Burr! Benji is the orange one and Burr is the black one – they are brothers and the bestest friends in the whole world! ? Flamingos Aren’t the Only Bird in Town! NEW Evolution!

Springtime is not only about beautiful new blooms — there’s lots of new life to look forward to! Since it’s been more than a year since the release of the Bee Evolution, it’s about time to add some new Evolution Munzees to our roster! Starting April 5 at 12:00 MHQ time, our brand new Duck Evolutions will be made available through the Freeze Tag Store!

Duck Evolution Munzees

The Duck Evolution is a bit different from the previous Animal Evolutions, as there are only 4 stages total. This is to balance out the longer time for the Duck to fully evolve — in our research, we found that it takes ducks 21 days to hatch. Stages 1-3 of the Duck Evos are virtual munzees, which are as follows:

Once these Evolutions reach Stage 3, a temporary POB will be launched, which is Stage 4. For example, if you’ve deployed a Duck Evolution, the Duckling will remain in place (as mentioned above), while the adult Duck variant will be launched at the same time for the duration of its “lifespan.”

Stage 4 Ducks will bounce to both physical and virtual landing pads every 8 hours. They have the option of emerging as one of the three different species shown below, with the Swan being the rarest of the 3.

Like the Flower Evolutions, the chance of the Duck Evolution evolving to one of the 3 types changes every time it is reset with the Evolution Reset Credit. Although you cannot capture a reset evolution if you have already captured the original from stages 1-3, you CAN capture the final level of a reset when it evolves and releases a new tPOB. An easy way to know is, if you see it on the map you can capture it!

Please note that although the first three stages for each are the same, they will count as different special capture icons.

Just like real life ducks, the Duck Evolution Munzees stick to a healthy diet! Bouncing Duck Evos will be attracted to the following landing pads:

To access the Duck Evolution Munzees, turn on your “Evolution” and “All Expiring Specials” filters. They will count toward Evolution Capture and Deploy badges.

Adopt a Low-Maintenance Pet with these NEW Specials!

You know we loooove animals here at MHQ — what better proof than one of our more recent Flat Objects, the Flat Murray? But sometimes having a living, breathing pet in your home just isn’t in the cards. That doesn’t mean you are totally locked out from feeling the companionship and emotional support a pet brings — you just have to get a little creative! So, to celebrate National Pet Day, starting at 12:00 MHQ on April 4th, Pet Rock specials will bounce around the map until 23:59 MHQ on April 17th.

We’ll be releasing the rocks in waves, but will end at a total of 700 Limestone Pet Rocks and 700 Sandstone Pet Rocks. They will roll around on the map every 4 hours or when captured.

Beautify the Map in One Easy Step!

We’ve offered small pre-built gardens as part of Event Packages in the past, but this NEW munzee will be available to everyone, and allow for greater control of where exactly the garden is placed.

How to Use the Insta-Garden

  1. Navigate to an Insta-Garden in your Undeployed list
  2. Tap to Deploy it as usual
  3. When the map to set the location loads, you will see the Insta-Garden pin centered on your location as usual, AND an overlay of the current available Insta-Garden Design underneath, centered on the Insta-Garden pin
  4. Move the Insta-Garden pin to your desired location, and the Insta-Garden Design will move with it, remaining centered underneath the pin
  5. We recommend using the Insta-Garden in wide, open spaces on the map — you will most likely have difficulties trying to deploy a garden EXACTLY in-between other munzees that have already been deployed
  6. Once you’ve found the perfect spot, confirm your deploy as usual!
  7. Please note: it may take some time for all the deploys to appear on the map — think of the deploy process as similar to a blast capture, where individual munzees are queued for processing. However, you should have no issues with anyone deploying within the confines of any partially-deployed gardens, as each deploy is timestamped even if it is queued — so your deploys will naturally have an earlier timestamp and take precedence
  8. Please also note: the Insta-Garden pin will ALWAYS be replaced by the actual Insta-Garden Design once you deploy, so you will never see the Insta-Garden pin itself on the map — it only exists up to the Deploy screens

For testing purposes, we used last year’s March into May Event garden design as the Insta-Garden Design above, but to keep those gardens more limited and unique, we’ve created a NEW Insta-Garden Design that will deploy from the Insta-Garden pins now. We want to keep the new design a surprise though, so you’ll have to pick one up and deploy it to find out what it is! Or you could just wait until someone else posts it, but where’s the fun in that?
