Virtual Reseller Unique Munzees Have Arrived!

As we are just about a month away from the 5th birthday of Reseller Unique Munzees (RUMs), we thought it was time to bring this special munzee type into the virtual fold! Like the Physical RUMs, you will only see the pin image below on the map and in the summary panel that appears when you tap on the pin:

Also like the Physical RUMs, once you tap to view the Munzee Details, you will see a pin image containing the logo/branding of the reseller it came from. The resellers will be launching this product at their own shops within the next 24-48 hours, we just want you to have all the information in advance. You can get links to shop all of our resellers HERE! Edit and Update: The virtual RUM is special because it is the first scattering virtual that is also *blastable (able to be capped by using a blast capture).

The points for Virtual RUMs are as follows:

  • Capture: 35
  • Deploy: 40
  • CapOn: 30

Similar to the Cyborg Santa, when a Virtual RUM is captured 1-3 NEW Reseller Packages will be scattered nearby!

The Reseller Packages will be visible to ALL players, not just the player who capped the Virtual RUM, and will be deployed on the Virtual RUM owner’s account. This means that unlike Feathers, there are CapOn points for the owner! The Virtual RUM will count for clan wars and ZeeOps RUMs requirements. However, these package scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks, ZeeOps, or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

The rewards for Reseller Packages are as follows:

  • Capture: 25
  • CapOn: 20

There is a badge for deploying each different Virtual RUM. The badges appear similarly to the Reseller Package pin icons shown above! Additional badge lines are coming soon for cumulative RUMs captures/deploys that will include all physical and virtual RUMs!

We hope you enjoy these new Virtual RUMs! Just don’t get too tipsy!

Munzee on!

*Due to the unique nature of a blastable scattering virtual, the number of scattered packages may be reduced in the future to save server/DB power and speed. Additional tweaks may be made in order to maintain the integrity of the game while preserving the value of the gamepiece.

Jewel Shards are a Smash Hit!

We’re finally ready to give our veteran players a requested feature with a fun twist. Welcome Jewel Shards! Similar to our Hotel renovations with Destination Credits, we wanted to create a more flexible system for Jewels. This is especially true after the warm reception to the Funfinity Stone Pouch Creatures last year.

This new system is designed for experienced players who may have an overstock of specific Jewel Credits. You’ll be able to choose if you want to redeem some of your Jewel Credits for Jewel Shards. If you do, you’ll be able to use those Jewel Shards to create new Jewels of your choosing. For example, you may have tons of Aquamarines stored up from past Clan War rewards and have no plans on using them. Now you have the option of breaking some of those Aquas into Jewel Shards and using them to get a Citrine or a Ruby. The choice will be yours within the options given.

Don’t worry if you have any Jewel Credits saved up — those will remain, and all Jewels can still be purchased in the Freeze Tag online store. Of course, not all Jewels are created equal, so different amounts of Jewel Shards are required to convert to each Jewel type.

You’ll find all the details and conversion rates at munzee.com/redeem.

While Jewel Shards are currently only available as trading elements online, who knows what the future holds? Perhaps a certain bot buddy will help find more, or maybe you’ll earn them in Clan Wars or ZeeOps? Only time will tell!

Munzee on!

FAQ:

Q: I’m a new player with no Jewel Shards and no Jewel credits to exchange. What do I do?
A: Be patient. This is being introduced as a tool for those who have accumulated many credits in order to give them a way to choose what type of Munzee they become and deploy.

Q: Why are the number of Jewel Shards given for a Jewel not the same as the number of Jewel Shards required to get a Jewel?
A: The vast majority of these Jewels were earned as rewards from Clan Wars, Prize Wheels, ZeeOps, and other gameplay activities. The value doesn’t change, but the option to upgrade into a different Jewel is accounted for.

Q: Why can’t I break a virtual Amethyst (or other virtual Jewels) into Jewel Shards?
A: Virtual Jewels are complete munzees in your undeployed list, so it isn’t the same process as exchanging a Jewel Credit for a Jewel Shards credit.

Q: What about Clan Weapons?
A: What about them? 😉 Stay tuned for possible expansions into other areas of the game!

Q: Can I trade my credits to another player or give Jewel Shards to another player?
A: Nope.

NEW Capture Mulligan and Credits Section in the In-App Store!

Our Capture, Deploy, and Super Streak badge lines are popular choices for many players looking to set a goal. It can be challenging to squeeze in daily play during a busy month, but with some careful planning, many of our players have managed to do it (at the time of writing, over 4,000 have earned the Super Streak badge). However, the second badge in each line ratchets up the difficulty, requiring an unbroken year of capture and/or deploy activity — undoubtedly a difficult feat!

Even the most dedicated player, with alarms and reminders set each day, can have an unforeseen circumstance come up. It takes just one unlucky day to break a streak. The past year has brought unlucky days for many, so we thought it was the right time to release the Capture Mulligans!

NEW Capture Mulligans

They will award 1 capture worth 50 points as follows:

  • 1 Day – Allows players to add a capture marked with yesterday’s date
  • 7 Day – Allows players to add a capture to the last day missed within the last 7 days (for example, as today is Feb 10th — if you missed capping something on both Feb 7th and Feb 8th, it will only add a capture with a Feb 8th date)
  • 14 Day – Allows players to add a capture to the last day missed within the last 14 days

As these items are meant for those one-off unlucky days, they are limited to 1 each per player every 30 days.

Please note that they are only available in the In-App Store, not in our online store.

Other Credits Available in the App

Along with the Capture Mulligans above, we’ve brought the following credits to the In-App Store for your convenience!

We hope this makes breaking your capture streak a little less devastating!

Tiers 2 & 3 Valentines Card Collectors Club members have their own exclusive hunt! To reiterate, the mailbox must be capped on February 10th 00:01-23:59 MHQ time to deploy the Mythical Bandaidz. January Garden Gnome Reminder + February Preview!

As the month comes to a close, we wanted to make sure you were heading into February with your desired Garden Gnomes! The skin for completing your January capture streak (and the corresponding badge) will be awarded in early February, but we couldn’t wait to share what’s in store!

January Garden Gnome Reminders

If you haven’t picked up a Garden Gnome yet, they are available in the Freeze Tag Store for $12.

For the month of January ONLY, if you purchase a Garden Gnome, you will receive the Ice Hockey skin to upgrade your gnome for FREE. To clarify: Garden Gnomes will be available throughout 2021, but the Ice Hockey skin will only be available in January.

Each month, the price of a Garden Gnome will decrease by $1. However, players can only purchase 1 Garden Gnome every 28 days.

If you’re planning to complete the capture streaks for each month (and make the initial purchase in January) you’ll have 12 different skins to choose from! So be sure to purchase one each month so you can have a complete bench of these athletic Garden Gnomes!

February Garden Gnome Details

What Gnome Skin can you look forward to receiving in February? The dashing and roguish Archery Garden Gnome! Like the other gnomes, the Archery Garden Gnome is a temporary POB that will remain on the map until 23:59 MHQ on December 31.

Archery Garden Gnome

As stated earlier, to earn this skin, you’ll need to have completed this month’s (January’s) capture streak. Once the skin is awarded in February, you can change the skin on the gnome to this one at any point — refer to our original blog post for the instructions!

Points

  • Capture: 250
  • CapOn: 300

You can find these accurate aimers traveling to the following landing pads every 6 hours or when captured:

Additionally, the Archery Garden Gnome will scatter up to 3 NEW Gnome Archery Hoods nearby when it is captured!

Like the other Gnome Hats, the Gnome Archery Hoods will be visible to any player and will be deployed on the Gnome owner’s account. This means that unlike Feathers/Boulders, there are CapOn points for the owner! They expire after 120 minutes and have a capture radius of 300 feet. These hat scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks, ZeeOps, or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

The rewards for Gnome Hats are as follows:

  • Capture: 50 points
  • CapOn: 50 points

The Archery Garden Gnome will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture Archery Garden Gnomes on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Archery Garden Gnome visits you. Archery Garden Gnomes are non-blastable. They will be attracted to both Physical Magnets and Virtual Magnets. You can access Archery Garden Gnomes by turning on your “All Limited Edition Specials” and “All Expiring Specials” filters.

Badges

As a reminder, Garden Gnomes have 4 associated badge lines:

  • Unique type deploy badges — you’ll need to earn each month’s skin by keeping your streak up!
  • Overall deploy badges — the more gnomes you deploy, the merrier!
  • Unique type capture badges — capture at least 1 of each skinned gnome!
  • Overall capture badges — capture as many gnomes as you can find!

While we revealed images for the first of each badge line in the original post, we are happy to show you the “Unique type deploy” and “Unique type capture” badges associated with the Archery Garden Gnome:

We hope you hit the target for February’s Gnome Skin! Don’t forget to keep your streak up through February — you’ll need to in order to earn the March Gnome Skin!

Use evolution reset credits to get new CapOn points from OLD deploys (they do NOT count as new deploys)

Improvements to Website Quick Deploy!

For many players, our Web Map is the easiest way to deploy a Virtual, especially if it’s for a friend across the globe! However, with all the new Virtual types we’ve been releasing lately, even that process has started to become unruly. On Tuesday we made 2 changes to it which, while they may seem small, can be total game changers for those frequent virtual deployers:

1. Munzee types are broken up into 3 categories

Previously, the entire roster of virtual munzees was visible at once, which could get overwhelming and make it hard to find the type you had in mind.

Clicking on a category will expand the list to show only the munzees in that category.

We’ve started with these three categories for now, but may expand to more in the future!

2. The number of undeployed munzees you have for each type is now visible!

Previously, this information was only displayed in your Undeployed list. If you clicked on a munzee type that you didn’t actually have, a popup would tell you that after the fact.

Now all the information you need is all in one place!

We hope these improvements make playing Munzee a bit more convenient!

January 2021 GOTM Winners

January is always a very strange month, as we’re playing catch up after the longest break of the year, but also have new things to release! Some of the things we were able to catch up on were: releasing the Phantom Flats and additional Retiremyths, the yearly leaderboard badges, the 10 millionth munzee, and Winter Tree Scatters! Some of the new things we released were: Egyptian Zodiacs, Garden Gnomes, Secret ZeeOps, SleepZees, Hamilton Hamzee, Motivational Message Greeting Cards, and most recently, the VCCC!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the January Garden of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded in early February, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

January GOTM

The gardens we chose this month reflect this simultaneous old and new state! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Night Vision Agent NIVY Garden, designed by Rikitan, and the Charlotte Electric Lightbulb Garden, designed by MrsHB31, as our winning January GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Night Vision Agent NIVY by Rikitan in Bratislava, Slovakia

Isn’t it clever how the Garden Places munzee was incorporated into the design?

The release of Secret ZeeOps and the Walkie Talkie Watch earlier this month made picking this garden a no brainer!

Rikitan shared his thoughts behind the design:

I fell in love with Zee Ops just in summer 2020, shortly before this side-game was paused for reconstruction.
Upon its return I was thrilled to see small daily challenges, which are easy and motivating to follow & keep going.
To celebrate this milestone, I created a small garden for all united agents of Bratislava, capital of Slovakia.

We’re also fans of how he went the extra mile in formatting the garden spreadsheet to fit the theme! We highly recommend that you check it out HERE!

Charlotte Electric Lightbulb by MrsHB31 in Charlotte, NC

Can you wish on a lightbulb? We hope that this new year is the start of a brighter future.

The Electric Mystery was released last year on March 18, 2020, right around the time things took a more serious turn. While it’s been almost a year since, we love how this garden features our (still) newest Elemental in a very fitting design! In addition, the nearby garden of Virtual Colors is well-placed and will make the most of the Charge scatters!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Send your nomination for GOTM to iloveyou@munzee.com! Keep in mind that we take all former nominations into consideration for upcoming months. Just be sure your garden follows the nomination rules in order to be considered eligible!

If you need help deploying in a Virtual Garden, you can check out this step-by-step tutorial that will making deploying in a garden easy no matter how long you’ve been playing. To fill in the gardens, make sure to stock up on Virtuals and Color Credits from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

Munzee on!

P.S. Are you looking for POTM requirements? Remember that last month, we announced that we were holding off on POTM for now as we develop a new way to highlight our unique player base!
