At the Start of Any Physical Activity, Make Time For December 2020’s Resolution!

Ever woke up late and sprinted to school or work, making it just on time? Or saw a little kid fall into the deep end of a pool and dove quickly to save them? While the adrenaline pumping through your veins allows you to act in the moment, we bet you’ll be suffering from some soreness the next day! That’s why it’s important to devote some time to this month’s resolution, which will help you ease into your exercises and reduce discomfort.

As we announced in our January Resolutions blog, we will be launching monthly Capture Streak Badges centered on a year of being active. Each month’s badge will be dedicated to practicing a different exercise. Similar to how our Super Streak badges operate, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. This month’s badge may be tricky to get, but we believe in you!

Each month’s badge will be themed around the particular resolution goal. For December, we’re putting the focus on Dynamic Stretching! You may be thinking — the opposite of “dynamic” is “static”, so is there also “static stretching”? If so, what’s the difference? The answer is, yes, there is both “dynamic” and “static” stretching, and the difference is pretty intuitive. Keep reading to find out!

So what is dynamic stretching and what is static stretching?

Dynamic stretching is the kind of stretching you should be doing as a warm-up at the start of a workout or other physical activity. According to Healthline.com, “Dynamic stretches can be functional and mimic the movement of the activity or sport you’re about to perform. For example, a swimmer may circle their arms before getting into the water.” Similarly, in the badge art above, the runners are making sure to carefully bend and stretch their arms and legs in a way similar to how they would be while running. To reiterate, dynamic stretching is preparing your body for a lot of movement by “pre-moving” it and giving it time to adjust.

As for static stretching, the goal is not preparing your body for movement — quite the opposite, as you’ve probably guessed. You are stretching, and then holding that stretch. This might sound great for those who are lazy exercisers, but don’t think you can get away with doing static stretching alone. Static stretching is actually only recommended AFTER warming up your body. This is because the increased circulation reduces tension in your muscles, allowing you to stretch more easily and lessening the risk of pulling a muscle or otherwise straining yourself. Once you’ve warmed up though, static stretching is a great way to increase your flexibility and cool down.

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

Go Viral The Instant You Put On These 20/20 Vision Munzees!

No, these glasses aren’t from your favorite 8-bit video game — they’re from the “Deal with it” meme! If you’re not sure what we’re writing about, see our corresponding social posts for an example. These iconic shades were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. What is your favorite meme and why?

Only eleven Meme Glasses will be deployed, and they will bounce to virtuals every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Virtual Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing the Meme Glasses will add this eye-catching Viral Vision badge to your collection! Also, as of July we’ve released the details on the overall capture line — the post is HERE if you missed it!

So what exactly is a meme? Many of us know what they are intuitively, but it can be hard to find the right words to explain what they are to friends and family who’ve been living under rocks. Thankfully, “meme” has already made it into the dictionary, so here’s how merriam-webster.com defines it:

  1. an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture
  2. an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online especially through social media

The second definition is probably what you gravitate towards when defining memes, but the more general first definition is interesting too — it means that memes are very similar to trends or fads, but without the commercial connotation the latter two carry. What are some memes you can think of that didn’t originate on the internet? Here’s a fun example from BBC.com showing a meme from the 1920’s!

More unique 20/20 Vision specials will launch throughout the year so keep on the lookout — you won’t want to miss out on these bouncing bifocals!

Need to Find a Needle in a Haystack? Try These 20/20 Vision Munzees!

Don’t get these mixed up with the VR Goggles — they may both be rectangular, but the only world these glasses will show you is the one that can’t be seen by the naked eye! These powerful pairs were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. What would you use these glasses for?

Only eleven Microscope Glasses will be deployed, and they will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Physical Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing the Microscope Glasses will add this perfectly precise Scientific Sight badge to your collection! Also, as of July we’ve released the details on the overall capture line — the post is HERE if you missed it!

Our Microscope Glasses are actually based on OptiVISORs, which, according to doneganoptical.com, actually magnify rather than offer the granularity of a microscope. But “Magnifying Glasses” sounds too close to the single-lens tool’s name — and anyway, who said we had to adhere to reality? The main benefits of these are that you can wear them over any prescription glasses you need to see clearly, that your hands are freed up, rather than forced to hold a microscope (or magnifying glass!), and, since there is a lens for each eye — your magnified vision is in 3D! We think these would be great for Zeecret Agents or detectives — after all, isn’t the magnifying glass a symbol of a savvy sleuth? But perhaps these would attract more attention than desired while discreetly inspecting a crime scene — to say nothing of disguises or personal style. Better leave it to the scientists in the lab! Some other jobs we think could make use of Microscope Glasses include: sprinkle sorter, thread counter, and eyebrow plucker.

Need a Last-Minute Halloween Costume? Slip on These 20/20 Vision Munzees!

Science says that male comedians with more delicate, feminine features tend to be more successful. However, the comedian behind these glasses is a great example of the contrary! These bushy bifocals were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Have you worn these glasses and gotten a chuckle out of anybody?

Only ten Disguise Glasses will be deployed, and they will bounce to virtuals every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Virtual Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Capturing the Disguise Glasses will add this discreet Groucho Glasses badge to your collection! Also, as of July we’ve released the details on the overall capture line — the post is HERE if you missed it!

Groucho Marx, the inspiration behind this iconic pair, often played a German professor in his comedy acts. While the full brows and large nose are certainly over-the-top, the look just wouldn’t be complete without the prominent mustache. According to marx-brothers.org, Groucho’s signature stache was a result of some hurried costume prep:

He arrived late at the theater and used greasepaint to create a moustache. He found this so much easier than a glued-on moustache that he insisted on using this technique from then on.

The first pairs of Groucho Glasses was marketed sometime in the 1940s which was near the middle of his career, but unfortunately, in our quick research, we were unable to find any evidence of Groucho’s own thoughts on them. Did he find them even more convenient than his greasepaint? Or, at the other end, maybe he felt they took caricature too far and was offended by them?

Regardless, there’s no denying the place Groucho Glasses have in popular culture. There’s even a Guiness World Record for “Most people wearing Groucho Marx glasses”, which at the time of writing, was achieved in 2009 at the City of Chicago’s Outdoor Film Festival. There were 4,436 people wearing the glasses!

You’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. Focus on the Foundation of Any Exercise Routine With November 2020’s Resolution!

Have you been indulging in some Halloween candy that you were planning on passing out to trick-or-treaters this year? Or indulging in popular pumpkin spice-flavored treats? While there’s no need to deprive yourself of these sweets, make sure to save some room for foods that will help you meet your daily nutritional needs!

For November, instead of a specific exercise, we’re highlighting the importance of a healthy diet! While you can certainly enjoy healthy foods via juicing as shown in the badge art below, don’t feel obligated to try it, especially if it would require you to purchase a new appliance. As we’re sure you already know, there’s more to health than kale smoothies!

Why has juicing gotten so popular?

Veggies seem like they take a lot of prep work since, generally, you need to wash them, remove inedible/unappetizing  parts, and finally, chop them up before you can start cooking them. That’s quite a bit more manual labor than shaking a box of dried pasta into a pot of boiling water or dumping a chunk of meat into a hot oiled pan. Because of this, the appeal of juicing is understandable — after doing all that prep work, you just pop the veggie bits into a juicer and you’re good to go!

But, if you prefer your veggies cooked, it doesn’t take that much more effort to do so — a lot of veggies taste great with minimal cooking. For example, Brussels sprouts are one of the most disliked vegetables here in the US, but they’re actually quite tasty when they’re simply sautéed or stir-fried with a bit of olive oil or butter, and seasoned with salt and pepper. The only thing to watch out for is overcooking them, which would give them a bitter taste. Once you see a bit of caramelization, quickly remove them from the pan! Green beans and sweet potatoes can be prepared this way as well, and instead of using the stove, you could also roast them for a short time in the oven. If you feel like going to a little more effort, adding some minced garlic to cook alongside these veggies is sure to be a success. What are some other simple but tasty ways to prepare vegetables that you recommend?

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

Put on These 20/20 Vision Munzees for Instant Glamour!

With a distinctive shape and pearly accents in the upper corners, we think these glasses are the perfect accessory to wear at your next Sock Hop! These classic shades were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. While typically viewed as a more feminine style of eyewear, we think there are options out there for everyone! Read on for some inspiration!

Only ten Cat-Eye Glasses will be deployed, and they will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Physical Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing the Cat-Eye Glasses will add this fabulously feline Purr-fect Vision badge to your collection! Also, as of July we’ve released the details on the overall capture line — the post is HERE if you missed it!

While the glasses depicted in the pin and badge art are certainly a sweet choice for those who enjoy retro style, perhaps you’d prefer a more modern example? Though The Matrix was released in 1999, the fashion still seems modern by today’s standards — and the striking sunglasses worn by the character Trinity have a unique shape while still meeting the “cat-eye” criteria. As they are black in color and give off a more insectoid appearance, they can be considered a unisex alternative to the typical cat-eye pair. Curious about how these glasses were made? According to Fashionista.com, costume designer Kym Barrett first drew up the designs of each character’s signature pair. Then glasses designer Richard Walker made each pair according to her specifications by hand. To ensure that these custom lenses would be a perfect fit, head molds of each glasses-wearing actor were made, and then cast in plaster! The process may seem extravagant, but there’s no denying that the extra effort definitely paid off! Where else have you seen such sensational sunglasses?

ZeeOps Program Reboot!

Agents, in August we informed you that a change was coming to the ZeeOps program, which is why we had no monthly ops planned for September. As you’ve probably guessed from our numerous hints, we’re finally ready to unveil our NEW ZeeOps program! Here’s a briefing on the changes:

ZeeOps Changes

As mentioned in the August blog post, we’ve shifted to a Daily ZeeOps Mission system. These new Daily ZeeOps Missions will NOT require ZeeCred. Those players that have ZeeCred stored up have no need to worry, as we still have that data saved. We will release more information regarding ZeeCred usage in the near future!

Each day, at 00:00 MHQ time, you will receive a new mission in your ZeeOps Hub (more info in the next section) which is located above the Clan Wars hub on the main map screen. Just click the red ZeeOps button to access this all new section.

If you complete the mission during that MHQ day, you will earn a stamp for that day and receive the reward as indicated in the mission. Currently, the pool of rewards includes Zeds, Zeecret Weapons, or the deploy of the NEW Laser Pen (click HERE to learn more) near you! As always, this reward pool may be subject to change.

If you do not complete the mission, you will simply not earn a stamp on that day (likewise with the reward) and can try again the next day. After completing the very first Daily ZeeOps Mission you will have the option to discard missions once a day. The discard will simply remove that mission and give you a new option but it’s only available once daily.

Once you’ve completed your seventh mission and collected the indicated reward, you’ll unlock the vault and earn a Spyderbot! You can find more information about this  NEW temporary POB HERE!

Once the 7 days have been completed the counter for missions will reset and you’ll start over at Day 1.

In-App Updates

Whether you’re an experienced player or just started yesterday, we want everyone to get a good introduction to this updated area.

Once you have the update on your device, you’ll need to work through our tutorials before you can unlock the new ZeeOps Hub. You’ll earn 25 Zeds for each tutorial you complete, so it’s definitely worth your while!

Once you’ve done that, here’s what you’ll find:

The Daily Tab, which contains the following:

  • A visual representation of Daily ZeeOps Missions completed, up to the seventh mission
  • The current Daily ZeeOps Mission, consisting of the requirement, reward, and current progress
  • Ability to view more information about the reward by tapping on the reward image
  • Ability to discard the current Daily ZeeOps Mission in order to try a different Mission (once daily)
  • Depending on the Mission status:
    • View more information about the reward by tapping on the bottom button
    • Ability to collect the reward once the requirement is met
    • View the time remaining until the next Daily ZeeOps Mission will appear

The Secret Tab, which functions much like the old ZeeOps area, and contains the following:

  • The active Mini Ops or other non-Daily ZeeOps
  • Ability to view more information about the Op by tapping on it
  • Ability to view old Ops

Badges

There is a new badge line based on overall Daily ZeeOps missions completed. These badges depict fun interactions between rival spies! The first badge in this line is Vault Hunters, earned by completing your first Daily ZeeOps Mission! You can sneak a peek below:

Vault Hunters- Complete 1 Daily ZeeOps Mission.

Since everything here is new, you may run into bugs we haven’t squashed, so we thank you in advance for your patience. Please report anything you find to support@munzee.com.

On behalf of MHQ, we thank you for your continued service.

This message will self destruct in 3… 2… 1…

Bash from the Past Eventzee Hunt Winners!

On September 21, we kicked off our first Eventzee hunt in the new app! The hunt ended as of the 31st, and we were happy to see the warm response from those who participated! We periodically reviewed photo and video submissions throughout the hunt’s active period so you could see what others were up to in the feed, but as we expected, we weren’t able to keep with everyone!

To give you the results in a timely manner, as promised, we reviewed ALL the submissions from the players that were in the top 10 on the leaderboard. Depending on the quality of the photo/video submissions and the accuracy of the text submissions, the ranking may have shifted a bit. Some may have gone out of the top 10, in which case, we reviewed ALL the submissions for the new player that made it in, until the final top 10 consisted of players who’ve been thoroughly reviewed by us. So, without further ado, here are the winners:

  1. monrose
  2. TamiEarthAngel
  3. johnsjen
  4. Isopun2
  5. Rufnredy
  6. Jafo43
  7. Aufbau
  8. GroundFox
  9. Neta
  10. CoalCracker7

These hardworking Eventzee players will receive Zeds based on how they ranked! Zeds are our in-app currency which allow you to buy things ranging from Magnets to special item packs that aren’t available anywhere else! If you want to learn more about Zeds, check out our Help Guide article HERE!

Agents, We’re Recognizing Your Service With A New Badge Line!

In August, we announced that we’d be making some tweaks to the ZeeOps program and that there would be no ZeeOps in September. Whether there will be ZeeOps this month still remains to be seen — however, in the spirit of this year’s bash theme (at least 1/7th of the theme anyways), we wanted to reward our dedicated ZeeOps agents for all the hard work they’ve done so far!

This new line of badges is for overall captures of Zeecret Weapon Munzees! There are 6 capture badges to earn with art depicting all the cool gadgets and gizmos you might use while you’re out in the field!

Captures of the following munzees will count toward these badges:

  • Briefcase
  • Dossier
  • Night Vision Goggles
  • Infrared

They are live as of 12:00 MHQ today. We won’t spoil all of the badges, but you can check out the first badge in the line below:

Spy Kit- Capture 25 Zeecret Weapons of any type.

As these badge lines are retroactive, you may have already met the requirements for some of them, and should see them on your account soon! If not, please wait a few days as our system catches up with awarding these new badges to everyone who has earned them, before contacting support.

If you want to learn more about Zeecret Weapons, check out our Help Guide article!

Happy hunting, and Munzee on!

Get Some Muscle Definition With October 2020’s Resolution!

As we approach Halloween, the pressure to come up with a cool costume increases. We asked earlier in the month what kind of costume you would have the most fun in, and while superheroes seemed to be the least popular (perhaps it’s easier for little kids to dress up as them?) we think they would make a great easy costume idea! Don’t feel like you have to limit yourself to the typical supe from blockbuster films — for example, you could show your Munzee spirit (and make things a lot easier for yourself) by dressing up as one of our Hometown Heroes! Whatever you choose, feeling fit and having the muscles to match will go a long way towards making you feel the part.

For October, instead of a specific exercise, we’re focusing on a muscle group that starts with “o” — obliques! As depicted in the badge art below, your obliques are the muscles at the side of your body, which slant to the left and to the right, respectively. They are also known as “side abs.”

What are some exercises I can try to strengthen these muscles?

For starters, you can attempt the side plank as depicted in the badge art above! If that’s easy for you, you can increase the difficulty by doing hip dips, as suggested by Shape Magazine:

Lower slowly down until hip barely touches the ground, then lift back up. Do 10-12 reps, holding last rep for 15-30 seconds before dropping. Repeat on opposite side.

You may also be surprised to learn that Shape Magazine also recommends “Elevated Mountain Climbers.” You may recall the non-elevated version was the focus of our May Resolution. While they don’t obviously work out the sides of your body, perhaps keeping yourself lifted even higher off the ground (as opposed to regular mountain climbers) is key in activating your obliques! The last exercise we recommend from Shape Magazine’s article is called “Plank Hip Twists:” starting in a regular plank position, imagine there is a beach ball underneath your hips. Twist your hips to the left around this imaginary beach ball, then do the same to the right. If you are able, shoot for the recommended 3-4 sets of 10 reps.

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

** MUNZEE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY EXERCISE-RELATED INJURIES
