August 2020 GOTM Winners + September POTM Requirements!

August saw the conclusion of the Camp Competition, with Camp FrEEZ emerging as the winner! However, all teams walked away with some useful prizes, including those of the Premium variety! New releases for the month include the Camp Critters, the Camp Munzee Greeting Card, and the Aphrodite Modern Myth, among others. Lastly, we also pushed out several updates, which included a NEW Tutorials area! We are now happy to announce the winners of the August Garden of the Month (GOTM), give a reminder for August Player of the Month (POTM), and announce the criteria for September POTM! The badges for August GOTM and POTM will be awarded in early September, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

August GOTM

This time last year, we released the She Said YES munzees to mark a very special occasion… so the first garden below caught our eye! Then we picked out another garden to match! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the FLAT-O-FANT Garden, designed by volki2000, and the A Giraffe Visits Gadsden, AL Garden, designed by Dinklebergh, as our winning August GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

Anyone think this giraffe resembles The Last Unicorn? Just me?

This rendering of a giraffe head is spot-on! Most of us just think of the yellow fur and brown spots, but the addition of the pink ears and blue eyes keeps the garden from looking too duochromatic.

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

August POTM

August’s POTM called for nominations for players who have not been playing Munzee for long, but whose mastery of the game is increasing by leaps and bounds, or is otherwise a great addition to the community! September POTM Requirements

This month, we wanted to put the spotlight on scatters! Simply cap 100 scatters and you’ll have met the requirements to earn the badge! To clarify, scatters are the munzees that are generated after capturing a scattering munzee. For example, when you cap an Air Mystery, that triggers Feathers or Golden Feathers to appear on the map for you to capture. Feathers and Golden Feathers are scatters.

Event Spotlight: Munzee Madness 9

While Munzee can certainly be a solo game if you choose, there’s no denying the appeal in meeting others who share your interests. Munzee Events are perhaps the best example of this, as they allow you to meet both old and new players in a safe, friendly environment. On top of that, there are usually activities, games, and — if you’re lucky — goodie bags! That being said, planning events requires a considerable amount of effort. So, to make it easier for prospective hosts (and maybe even recurring hosts), we decided to put the spotlight on past events, Munzee-Toolkit style! We hope this series of posts will inspire you to try hosting an event if you never have before, or provide you with ideas to spice up future events if you’re an old hand at it!

Today we’re featuring the Munzee Madness 9 events, which took place on March 6-7, 2020 at Anaheim, CA and was hosted by q22q17, crawil, and kj6soz.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

The Premier Munzee Event of the Year – Munzee Madness 9 and the longest running Munzee annual event in the world! Munzee Madness is an annual event that celebrates the very first global Munzee event. This is where events were born. Munzee events have evolved from a one time event to weekend extravaganzas, and Munzee Madness is no exception. We’ve hosted Munzee players from around the world who have traveled for the weekend.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

My most important tip, be flexible. Have back up plans for weather interruptions. Smile a lot, try to say hello to everyone. Have name tags with user names and real life first names.

What made your event unique?

Munzee Madness is unique as we have recently turned it into a road rally with multiple events over two days in different locations in Southern California. We have combined family friendly games along with Munzee hunts and have enjoyed several Eventzees as well.

National Waffle Day Specials Will Have You Bolting for Breakfast!

For those of us lucky enough to be working from home, one benefit is having more time in the morning to scrounge up a good breakfast! Here at MHQ that usually means anything with bacon and eggs, but we also need carbs to balance out that protein! What does a good breakfast look like to you?

To celebrate National Waffle Day, Wandering Waffle specials are now live on the map for everyone and will remain available until September 14 at 23:59 MHQ. You can use the “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters to more easily view them on the map. Check out the menu below!

There will be a total of 480 Wandering Waffle Specials available for capture — that breaks down to 240 of each. These are attracted to either Physical or Virtual Magnets depending on their type. These are not blastable.

There are two lines of badges related to Wandering Waffle specials.

The first line is based on overall Wandering Waffle captures. These badges will show you the tools to make the perfect waffles and some popular dishes with waffles as the main ingredient! The first badge in this line is called Waffle Iron and is earned by capping four Waffles of any type!

The second line of badges is based on each of the two Wandering Waffle specials. Make sure to cap at least one of each special so you can start your day off right!

Premium Prizes For Captivating Campers!

Starting with our Player of the Month requirements announced a few weeks ago, we wanted to make this month all about reaching out to and supporting all the new players that have discovered Munzee during these tough times.

Last week we posted about the new tutorials we’ve added to the Help & Info section of the app, which is just one of many steps we are taking to make the app more friendly to new players. Another step we’ve taken is testing out week-long Premium trials for new players when they sign up. So far, the results have been good, so it looks like the Premium trials are here to stay!

Since we’ve committed to giving all new players a week-long Premium trial, we wanted to extend the offer to others as well! As they’ve been dominating the entire competition, this comes as no surprise… but we think the other camps made a valiant effort as well! The final point differences among Camp QRantine, Camp KenneZEE, and Camp Cap-A-Lot are so close, which is a testament to the effort ALL camps have put in!

Camp Competition Week 4

As announced earlier in the week, we decided to do one more weekly check-in! We thought everyone would appreciate an extra week of prizes before we announce the final results. Some final reminders for the rest of the competition:

  • Prizes for this week are starting to be awarded TODAY! It may take a while for everyone to receive their prizes, so please wait a few days before e-mailing support@munzee.com about Week 4 prizes.
  • Water Balloons and Flags will leave the map at August 9 at 23:59 MHQ.
    • You can check CuppaZee’s Camps Leaderboard to track your camp’s performance until this time. Then, the leaderboard will be closed as it needs some time to catch up with all the capture data and finish calculating all the point values.
  • Final results will be announced on August 11. These results will take the ENTIRE competition period into account, not just the period after this check-in.

Now that we’ve got all of that out the way, it’s time to announce the results for the past week! Congratulations to Camp FrEEZ for keeping its place at the top!

We’d also like to congratulate Camp QRantine for attaining the 2nd Place spot! It’s been a pretty fierce competition so we’re excited to see how it all turns out next week! Just a few more days to get your captures in!

A NEW Camp Critter To Love!

If you’re jealous of August MunzPak recipients because of the cute Camp Critters, but aren’t ready to commit to a MunzPak, or if you just want to surround yourself with as many cuddly creatures as possible, this is the option for you!

Bear Cub Camp Critter

While moose, foxes, and squirrels are definitely of the woodland realm, we couldn’t forget the most famous forest resident of all — the bear! Or in this case, the bear cub! If you’d like to make it yours, it is available at the Freeze Tag Online Store as an individual product! That’s right, you can now have up to four different Camp Critter types bouncing around the map!

This new temporary POB (tPOB) will be available for purchase for $5 from now until 12:00 MHQ on Monday Aug 17th. Each player can purchase up to two Bear Cubs total.

Like the other Camp Critters, the Bear Cub is a temporary POB. Similar to the Baby Squirrel, it will bounce to both physical and virtual munzees. It will stay on the map until 23:59 MHQ on Sept 30, when it will be automatically archived on your account. If you’ve ever deployed a Butterfly or Frog Evolution munzee, these will behave similarly with a few exceptions.

  • Deploy: 500 points
  • Capture: 200 points
  • CapOn: 100 points

This cute little critter just loves to play! Tag, Hide-and-Seek, Duck Duck Goose — you name it! Enjoy playing with it now, while it’s still small and can’t knock you over with its sheer strength! It scampers to the following:

  • Treehouse
  • Greenie
  • Earth Mystery
  • Water Mystery
  • Skyland
  • All Virtual Colors
  • Air Mystery
  • Campground Places

Like the other Camp Critters, it will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture a Bear Cub on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Bear Cub visits you. However, Bear Cubs are non-blastable. They will be attracted to either Physical Magnets or Virtual Magnets on their respective landing pads. You can access Bear Cubs under the “Only Expiring Specials” filter.

August 2020 MunzPak Contents Revealed!

In the Spring we had cute and colorful Baby Animals School Supplies to collect, but since everyone’s still away at Camp Munzee, we thought you’d be more in the mood to collect some cute camping gear-themed badges! Read on to find out more! For this month, each Pak includes a NEW Camp Critters Munzee, which is a temporary Player Owned Bouncer! We’re very excited to share these three new types with you. You can find a breakdown below!

MunzPak is a monthly subscription service that delivers munzees directly to your door! Each of our three MunzPak options contain a variety of munzees, including some new items that you won’t be able to find anywhere else! You’ll see this critter’s tail before anything else! Although it’s admired for its beautiful, glossy red fur, it is quite shy. But its shyness doesn’t stop it from sneaking around to get what it wants! This wily Camp Critter scurries to the following:

  • Air Mystery
  • Campground Places

Baby Squirrel Camp Critters Munzee
Hybrid MunzPak

Its cute, innocent expression contrasts with its dragon-like hoarding tendencies! No nut, seed, or shiny thing is safe! Unfortunately, it also tends to forget where its treasures are hidden. This precocious Camp Critter Munzee climbs to the following:

  • Greenie
  • Earth Mystery
  • Water Mystery
  • Skyland
  • All Virtual Colors
  • Air Mystery
  • Campground Places

Camp Critters will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture a Camp Critter on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Camp Critter visits you. In virtual form, Camp Critters will be non-blastable. They will be attracted to Physical Magnets and Virtual Magnets. You can access Camp Critters under the “All Expiring Specials” filter.
