New Munzee Online Store Soft Opening

When the Munzee store originally launched in February 2013, it was a new and exciting way for quality Munzee stickers and products to be sold. It also allowed us to try new things and you, our players, to grow the map and game like we never expected. Almost three years later, however, that store just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Towards the end of last year, we began looking into alternative options for a new store. After months of research and testing, a new option was chosen, and we got to work building it out. Now, it’s time to test it.

From Friday, January 15th at 14:00 CST until Sunday, January 17th at 23:59 CST, the new Munzee store will be live for a soft opening. The new store can be found here or at https://munzeestore.myshopify.com/ and will ONLY be active during that time frame. After the soft opening, we will assess what works and needs to be changed, and we will announce when we will be switching over for good!

You never know what new things you may find in the store, so check it out tomorrow! Thank you for all of your support, and grow the map!

Weekend Update

Hello everyone. This is just a quick update to let you know our plans for Monday. Due to the holidays and the weekend we have not had the chance to confirm all items in time for 10am MHQ sales. We will delay the sales until ~3pm MHQ time which allows most players worldwide a better timing and opportunity. Thank you for understanding as we’ve made several changes over the past several days.
Additional information will be available prior to 3pm tomorrow. The goal is 10-11am for an informational post about Cyber Munzday sales. My current thoughts are sale prices on many current items, the release of the limited edition unicorn munzee (hard programmed to only award 1 per account), and the release of the surprise munzee. Surprise munzee will only be available after more conversations in the morning if it is ready to launch fully. Other items may be included or removed based on our ability to provide the best quality and service.
Thanks again for your patience and I hope you enjoyed the prizes the past few days. We are thankful for everyone who plays Munzee. The prizes end at 10am MHQ time Monday. — Rob

MHQ Bash 2015 Update

With less than two weeks until MHQ Bash, we’ve got some updates and new information!

  1. Friday night’s event at TUPPs Brewery is open to all ages, but you must have an ID to enter if you are over 18 even if you aren’t going to be drinking.
  2. Sunday’s brunch will be held at Celebration Park in Allen, Texas. We will be grilling hotdogs and hamburgers and offering Munzee Segway Tours (see below for more information).
  3. We’ve partnered with McKinney Segway Tours to offer Munzee tours by Segway during the weekend. A total of 24 tours will be offered Friday-Sunday. For more information and for tickets, head to our Eventbrite page.
  4. Can you imagine a purple dinosaur? There happens to be one that used to have a show on TV. If you didn’t know, he was created in Dallas, and his show was filmed at multiple locations in the DFW area, one of which was Allen. To commemorate this, we’ve created a small and limited edition *garden in his image in Allen just a few miles away from Celebration Park. All pins in this garden are sold out at this time. Stay tuned for future sales.

If you haven’t purchased your tickets for MHQ Bash yet, there’s still time! Online registration closes on October 7th at 5pm MHQ time, and you will be able to purchase tickets at the door. Don’t miss out!

Clan requirements will be released at 5pm MHQ time today. Here is a sneak peek…family jewels will be very important.

Communication is Key

There’s been some discussion regarding communication between Munzee and our players. We would like to clear up some of these topics.

First off, our official communication channels. When Munzee first started, we wanted to be accessible and monitor the pulse of the game very closely. In doing so, many members of Team Munzee were very active in unofficial groups and information was spread in multiple places. As the game and our business have grown, we’ve had to distance ourselves in some respects. Everyone plays the game their own way and though we would love to be able to take every request personally, we don’t all have the time to do so. From this point forward, all communications regarding gameplay changes, official announcements, etc. will come through this blog. Blog posts will still be linked through Munzee social media channels, but information will always lead back to here. We will still be posting daily on social media with content such as #MunzeeFound and game-related questions/discussions. If you would like to contact MHQ, we ask that you use official channels as well. Going to https://www.munzee.com/contact will provide you with the options you need to get in touch with us.

Secondly, the Munzee 3.0 app. As we’ve said before, Munzee has changed quite a bit since the beginning. We wanted to redesign the app to represent how far we’ve come and make it easier to update as we move forward. Part of this change to 3.0 requires us to stop the functionality of the 2.x versions of the apps. This decision was not taken lightly. We had many discussions internally about the future of the Munzee app, and for technological and financial, we had to make this choice.

As with all major updates and changes like this one, there are some compatibility issues and bugs in the code. Our developers are constantly working to improve the app for everyone. We take player suggestions and requests very seriously. Though we cannot always implement these ideas or detail what’s to come in the future, we want to ensure you that we do review the submissions we receive.

Lastly, our ever growing suite of apps. In the past year, we’ve added quite a few new apps to our repertoire. These apps take a lot of time to design, program, test, etc., and we try to maintain current apps while developing new apps and features the best we can. Our developers are dedicated to making their projects the best they can, and we’re in the process of structuring our teams to streamline these development processes. We have not, and will never, forget any of our apps or players who use those apps. There are always more features and updates in the pipeline. We will have more information on some of these changes very soon.

From everyone at MHQ, we want to thank you for playing Munzee. We are making it a priority to communicate pertinent information more effectively as we move forward. We hope you will like what’s to come, and grow the map!

  • Improved iOS 7.X support
  • Improved iOS 9 support
  • Layout fixes
  • Several bug fixes

Again, we want to thank everyone for their support. We will continue working to build upon and improve Munzee to make it the best we can. Grow the map!

Munzee Player of the Week: Marie Hunniecutt (hunniees)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Marie Hunniecutt (hunniees).

Who are you?
I am the spouse of a munzee addict (dt07751) and a Florida Cracker. No, a Florida Cracker is not a biscuit or snack food but a native Floridian. 😉 marienoseFlorida is a major cattle producer in the US and “Cracker” refers to the sound a whip makes when hearding cattle

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Lithia, Florida in the US, a munzee rich area. This is in central Florida not too far from Disney World or the beach.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing munzee about 2 years ago on a family vacation in the Midwest

How did you find Munzee?
We scanned a munzee posted on a Lake Superior Lighthouse. Thank you lrgrego for including a little information about munzee along with the QR! Since this was a driving vacation, I thought it would be fun to try it out. There weren’t many munzees on our trip or near our home at that time. Once we figured out tree hides and deployed our first mystery munzee, we were hooked.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
There are so many things I love about this game!

  1. Social Munzees
No, you don’t get points, but you get the chance to meet and interact with people from all over the world sharing and trading Social Munzees. I have met such wonderful people and made many new friends via Social Munzees.
  2. Walking
My work as an accountant required lots of time sitting and staring at a computer. (Of course, you can tell I am an accountant from the numbered lists. 😉 ) Munzee gets you out of doors, increases your activity, and gives you new venues to explore.
  3. Exploring
Since my hubby and I like to travel, Munzee provides a way to explore new surroundings. By following Munzee Trails, we find lovely 11873933_736863866424234_876809587_nplaces that you wouldn’t read about in a travel brochure. One of my favorite spots in Cologne is a park that we found following a Mystery Munzee trail. Then, there are the munzees in Bergen overlooking the harbor…breathtaking.
Through meeting other players, we explored new areas including Southend by the Sea, Celle, and Berlin. Thank you Tatch, Mary, McRon, Plueschi, JackSparrow and ChickenRun for making our visits so special.
  4. The Players!
Whether it be earning a badge, learning how to create a social, or understanding game play, most munzee players go out of their way to reach out and lend a helping hand. I love helping other players and learning new munzee tips. Munzee is at its best when players work together.
  5. Clan Battles.
Munzee does a good job of highlighting different aspects of the game in Clan Battles. I enjoy seeing which new aspect of the game will be incorporated each month. Wouldn’t it be great to see Social Munzees in next month’s battle?

Event pic

What is on your wish list?

  1. Fitbit badges.
The relationship between munzee and fitbit is a natural. It would be great to recognize the exercise benefits of munzee.
  2. More Rover badges.
While we have badges for the number of rovers handled, the rover leaderboard is not currently recognized via badges. A badge for the number of rovers owned and unleashed might be helpful in making rovers a larger part of the game.
  3. Official Munzee Communications pushed to email and the application.
When we first began playing munzee we missed a lot of key information since we were not using Facebook. I am now actively using FaceBook but find that many munzee players are still missing key information. The recent munzee Amethyst communication via the app was great and I hope this continues.
  4. Landing Page Redesign.
While I love seeing recent captures and popular deployments on my munzee landing page, social munzees are commingled with virtuals and physicals. For those individuals with social munzees, the current design preventsready identification of popular physical/virtual deployments. It would be great to have social munzee deployments listed separate from other deployments.
  5. Personal Munzees for Sale.
Great idea to develop a personal locationless munzee. My mouth has been watering since I saw them in July but regrettably I was not the winner. Pretty please release them for sale!
  6. Application Capacity.
With the recent sale of Emeralds or other special event sales/activities, munzee speed and response seems to be a consistent issue. I expect sales are lost due to member frustration during these periods and that increased revenue which would offset additional capacity cost.

Munzee Clan Franklin

Tell us about yourself!
I am happy to be part of the Florida Munzee Family and a member of a great clan, Florida Munzee Hunters SuperChuckers. Florida is a great place to munzee! Should you ever come here to visit, please send me a note. It would be great to have you visit Florida and I would be happy to share tips and information about munzeeing here. Summers are pretty hot and humid, so Florida is best seen in the Fall, Winter or Spring. 🙂

Other hobbies include:
Baking. That is all I can squeeze in with munzee

hunniees also included some socials (one of which is on the Header Image), so cap away!

Virtual Emerald Garden Locations

The official list of new Virtual Emerald Gardens is here. Along with the launch of these new gardens, we have also increased the capture radius of all Virtual Emeralds. You only need to be within 1500 feet (500 meters) of the virtual emerald in order to capture it. This will allow for all pins to be hand capped and not require blast capture. If you’d like to see all of the official gardens in one location you can visit www.munzee.com/gardens. Each garden has a virtual exclusion zone built in to protect the integrity of the design, however physical munzees are still able to be deployed in the area.
