Bash from the Past Eventzee Hunt Winners!

On September 21, we kicked off our first Eventzee hunt in the new app! The hunt ended as of the 31st, and we were happy to see the warm response from those who participated! We periodically reviewed photo and video submissions throughout the hunt’s active period so you could see what others were up to in the feed, but as we expected, we weren’t able to keep with everyone!

To give you the results in a timely manner, as promised, we reviewed ALL the submissions from the players that were in the top 10 on the leaderboard. Depending on the quality of the photo/video submissions and the accuracy of the text submissions, the ranking may have shifted a bit. Some may have gone out of the top 10, in which case, we reviewed ALL the submissions for the new player that made it in, until the final top 10 consisted of players who’ve been thoroughly reviewed by us. So, without further ado, here are the winners:

  1. monrose
  2. TamiEarthAngel
  3. johnsjen
  4. Isopun2
  5. Rufnredy
  6. Jafo43
  7. Aufbau
  8. GroundFox
  9. Neta
  10. CoalCracker7

These hardworking Eventzee players will receive Zeds based on how they ranked! Zeds are our in-app currency which allow you to buy things ranging from Magnets to special item packs that aren’t available anywhere else! If you want to learn more about Zeds, check out our Help Guide article HERE!

Event Spotlight: Blast in the Park II

While Munzee can certainly be a solo game if you choose, there’s no denying the appeal in meeting others who share your interests. Munzee Events are perhaps the best example of this, as they allow you to meet both old and new players in a safe, friendly environment. On top of that, there are usually activities, games, and — if you’re lucky — goodie bags! That being said, planning events requires a considerable amount of effort. So, to make it easier for prospective hosts (and maybe even recurring hosts), we decided to put the spotlight on past events, Munzee-Toolkit style! We hope this series of posts will inspire you to try hosting an event if you never have before, or provide you with ideas to spice up future events if you’re an old hand at it!

Today we’re featuring the Blast in the Park II event, which took place on June 27, 2015 at Melbourne, FL and was hosted by DalenBarb and SpaceCoastGeoStore.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

This was a coexist event that we hosted along with our annual Picnic in the Park geocaching event that draws between 250-350 geocachers each year. This event drew close to 100 attendees.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

When we started as many others we come from a geocaching background. One of the things we love about both is the friends we have made. One thing we have learned with hosting events is players really enjoy capping munzees at events but they also love to socialize and meet other players. We always try to add some socializing aspect to our events. Do not plan too many activities that keep players too busy to have time to interact with each other. We also like to add event munzees for the event. We started the idea of using survey flags back in 2015 while co-hosting an event with annabanana in Nebraska. We arrived at the location and found nothing to attach event munzees to and she said her husband (wemissmo) had some flags. So we used those and they worked great and now folks all over are using these type flags for event munzees. We also like to give out prizes for players that walk around and cap all event munzees. Being in Florida we try to make sure we always have some cold drinks to keep players hydrated, very important here. One final thing, grow the map in the area prior to the event. Incorporate those munzees into your event activities and earn lots of cap on points.

What made your event unique?

We created the Space Coast Geocachers back in 2007 and have been hosting this annual geocaching event ever since. In 2014 we created the Florida Munzee Hunters group that ignited players all over Florida to get involved in the game of munzee. This event really kick started the large community of players across Florida that we know today. One of the most unique things about this event was Rob aka President of Munzee was in attendance as well as all four of the Florida geocaching reviewers which is very rare in itself. We had Safari Todd at this event who is an exotic animal handler. He always brings a live alligator to the event and one of our eventzee clues was to get your pic holding a live alligator.

Would you like to highlight any future events you’re hosting?

Blast in the Park on February 20th at Wickham Park Melbourne, Florida (not on the calendar yet).

Thank you to DalenBarb and SpaceCoastGeoStore for being such great hosts and submitting the details for this event! We will be reaching out to other past event hosts in the future, so keep an eye on your inbox!

Get Some Muscle Definition With October 2020’s Resolution!

As we approach Halloween, the pressure to come up with a cool costume increases. We asked earlier in the month what kind of costume you would have the most fun in, and while superheroes seemed to be the least popular (perhaps it’s easier for little kids to dress up as them?) we think they would make a great easy costume idea! Don’t feel like you have to limit yourself to the typical supe from blockbuster films — for example, you could show your Munzee spirit (and make things a lot easier for yourself) by dressing up as one of our Hometown Heroes! Whatever you choose, feeling fit and having the muscles to match will go a long way towards making you feel the part.

As we announced in our January Resolutions blog, we will be launching monthly Capture Streak Badges centered on a year of being active. Each month’s badge will be dedicated to practicing a different exercise. Similar to how our Super Streak badges operate, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. This month’s badge may be tricky to get, but we believe in you!

Each month’s badge will be themed around the particular resolution goal. For October, instead of a specific exercise, we’re focusing on a muscle group that starts with “o” — obliques! As depicted in the badge art below, your obliques are the muscles at the side of your body, which slant to the left and to the right, respectively. They are also known as “side abs.”

What are some exercises I can try to strengthen these muscles?

For starters, you can attempt the side plank as depicted in the badge art above! If that’s easy for you, you can increase the difficulty by doing hip dips, as suggested by Shape Magazine:

Lower slowly down until hip barely touches the ground, then lift back up. Do 10-12 reps, holding last rep for 15-30 seconds before dropping. Repeat on opposite side.

You may also be surprised to learn that Shape Magazine also recommends “Elevated Mountain Climbers.” You may recall the non-elevated version was the focus of our May Resolution. While they don’t obviously work out the sides of your body, perhaps keeping yourself lifted even higher off the ground (as opposed to regular mountain climbers) is key in activating your obliques! The last exercise we recommend from Shape Magazine’s article is called “Plank Hip Twists:” starting in a regular plank position, imagine there is a beach ball underneath your hips. Twist your hips to the left around this imaginary beach ball, then do the same to the right. If you are able, shoot for the recommended 3-4 sets of 10 reps.

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

** MUNZEE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY EXERCISE-RELATED INJURIES

Surprise! A NEW Game Piece for A NEW Kind of Bash!

We may have had to cancel our annual MHQ Bash in Texas this year, but we’re still celebrating the only way we know how: BIG! We wanted to create something special to celebrate a worldwide virtual gathering in a new way, so we’re excited to announce the release of the Universal Munzee!

Like a combination between Social and Personal Munzees, the Universal will allow you to interact with your fellow players like never before. You can find out more about the product below, but first a little background!

Personable Personals

We LOVE events, AND WE LOVE Personal Tags! The two seem to go hand in hand. Personals come in so many colorful designs to collect, and it gives players something to talk about: you can learn a lot about your fellow players by the tags they’ve collected. We even have a special badge line highlighting this phenomenon!

That aspect to the game is definitely something we miss this year, and while players have used their creativity to host events that allow their attendees to still have fun while keeping a safe distance from each other, Personal Tags, unfortunately, do require you to be in close proximity of wherever they’re deployed. Enter the Universal Munzee!

Universally United

Featuring the logo for this year’s theme, “Bash from the Past!“, it has the best of both Social and Personal Munzee functionality as other players can capture it from anywhere in the world AND activity on it will earn you points. However, as this makes it incredibly valuable, we are limiting it to 1 per player. You can find this limited edition Universal HERE!

This Bash Universal is a limited release item only available through October 1 at 10:00 MHQ.

A Universal has the same point structure as a regular Personal:

  • Capture: mystery random points 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45
  • CapOn: sum of 50 between player capture and residual
    • Example: player capture = 30, owner residual = 20. Total = 50
  • Deploy: 100 points (only deploy it once with no proximity or expiration!)

For now, you can find your Universal in the My Social Munzees section of the app, or the corresponding page on the website. For more information, check out the Help Guide article.

To share your Universal Munzee QR code for others to capture, go to the Social Munzees list in your in-app profile and slide the entry to the left to reveal the [Show QR Code] button. You can take a screenshot of the code on your device, then send to others! Or you can always access and download the QR code from the website as well.

Bash From The Past!

We’ll have more information regarding this year’s celebration next week, but prepare for a trot down memory lane! MHQ Bash has become a staple over the last 6 years, so we thought what better way to celebrate 2020 than by looking back at years that were maybe a bit more stable!

The Universal is just the first announcement in regards to our Bash From The Past. Please indicate your intentions to participate in our global Bash on the Event Calendar. More information will be shared Monday about our plans for this annual celebration that we’re taking global this year!

Get In Shape Like A Schoolkid With September 2020’s Resolution!

September is the typical back-to-school month for most kids in the US — after a month or three of summer vacation, you are forced to be whipped back into shape. Your gym or P.E. teacher may start off slow, but you can bet things will be ramping up as the weeks go by to prepare you for the yearly fitness tests!

For September, we’re heading back to basics with sit-ups! Once believed to be the key to getting a flat-stomach or 6-pack, current fitness knowledge has come to the consensus that sit-ups will not help you make significant progress towards either of those goals — rather, diet for the former and core exercises for the latter — but it’s still a good basic ab workout. It’s definitely one that all schoolkids are forced to endure, and whether you were a pro as a kid or struggled to work those muscles, it’s a good exercise to revisit. If you notice your sit-ups aren’t as good as they used to be, slowly increase your repetitions until they are — then, continue that rep count to maintain your strength, or keep increasing to surpass your younger self!

How can I make sure I’m doing sit-ups properly?

It’s not too difficult to get into the right position — everybody knows that they need to start lying on the ground with their knees bent and feet planted. Arms can be straight out like the badge image above, cradling your head, or crossed on your torso, so that you won’t be using them to push off the ground. The main thing to watch out for, according to PureGym.com, is that you should not rely on momentum to lift you either, as your abs won’t get any exercise. This means that you should do sit-ups at a slow, even pace — not like those minute tests you had to do in gym class! If you have a hard time keeping your feet planted you can ask a buddy to hold them in place, or just wedge your feet under the sofa. Just make sure not to use your leg muscles too much now that your feet are being held down!

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

Event Spotlight: Munzee Madness 9

Today we’re featuring the Munzee Madness 9 events, which took place on March 6-7, 2020 at Anaheim, CA and was hosted by q22q17, crawil, and kj6soz.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

The Premier Munzee Event of the Year – Munzee Madness 9 and the longest running Munzee annual event in the world! Munzee Madness is an annual event that celebrates the very first global Munzee event. This is where events were born. Munzee events have evolved from a one time event to weekend extravaganzas, and Munzee Madness is no exception. We’ve hosted Munzee players from around the world who have traveled for the weekend.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

My most important tip, be flexible. Have back up plans for weather interruptions. Smile a lot, try to say hello to everyone. Have name tags with user names and real life first names.

What made your event unique?

Munzee Madness is unique as we have recently turned it into a road rally with multiple events over two days in different locations in Southern California. We have combined family friendly games along with Munzee hunts and have enjoyed several Eventzees as well.

Would you like to highlight any future events you’re hosting?

2020 Dog Days of Summer on August 29th in Fullerton California.

Thank you to q22q17 for being such a great host and submitting the details for this event! We will be reaching out to other past event hosts in the future, so keep an eye on your inbox!

Camp Competition Results!

And the winner is…

Camp FrEEZ!

As they’ve been dominating the entire competition, this comes as no surprise… but we think the other camps made a valiant effort as well! The final point differences among Camp QRantine, Camp KenneZEE, and Camp Cap-A-Lot are so close, which is a testament to the effort ALL camps have put in!

Prizes

Now moving on to the part you’re probably most interested in — the prizes! Here’s what you will receive if you were active at any point during the competition and placed in a camp, based on how your team ranked:

  • Camp FrEEZ:
    • 1st Place Badge
    • Unique Greeting Card — more info on that below!
    • Double points on winning Camp Myths (see below) NOW through 23:59 MHQ on September 9th
  • Camp QRantine:
    • 2nd Place Badge
    • Double points on winning Camp Myths NOW through 23:59 MHQ on August 30th
  • Camp KenneZEE:
    • 3rd Place Badge
    • Double points on winning Camp Myths NOW through 23:59 MHQ on August 23rd
  • Camp Cap-A-Lot:
    • 4th Place Badge
    • Double points on winning Camp Myths NOW through 23:59 MHQ on August 16th

With Camp FrEEZ victorious that means that the winning “Camp Myths” are the Dragon family, along with a few flying friends to make the bonus extra special.

To clarify, everyone will receive double points starting NOW on the following bouncers:

Unique Greeting Card Details

Having more time for double points than the other camps is definitely a useful perk for players in the first place camp, but we also wanted to give something exclusive! It’s the FrEEZ Flag greeting card! This greeting card will be the same as all other “limited edition” cards in terms of points. Each Camp FrEEZ camper will receive THREE cards.

Don’t forget to edit the title and the notes of your card when you deploy to add a personal touch! While the capture message will contain your Munzee username as all Greeting Card capture messages do, we think typing in a more specific note will go a long way to creating a more unique and special experience!

For more information on the Greeting Cards, you can check out our Help Guide article.

Support

We’ll be awarding the final prizes starting today, but as there were so many active players, it may take a while before you receive your badge and greeting card if applicable. Double points, however, should be working for everyone!

If, after a few days, you still haven’t received your final prizes, please e-mail support@munzee.com.

Camp Merch

If you haven’t treated yourself recently, pick up a shiny new personal tag, T-shirt, mug, or tote from Camp Munzee Collection HERE! The latest tPOB, the Bear Cub, will be available until next week!
