Player of the Week: Nate Vaughan (BigNate27)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Nate Vaughan (BigNate27).

Who are you?
BigNate27 (Nate)

Where in the world do you live?
Sussex, Wisconsin

How long have you played Munzee?
I’ve been playing Munzee since September 13th, 2015.

How did you find Munzee?
My dad (TeamVaughan) has been playing for a while, and he wanted a Munzee buddy.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Bonding with my dad and exploring all the parks around us and the places we vacation.

What is on your wish list?
Virtual Resorts and Prize Wheels, my two favorite munzees. Make a Flat Nate so people can capture me, too!

Tell us about yourself!
I am the youngest of 4 kids and will be starting middle school this fall. I play on a travel baseball team, and we play throughout the Midwest. Baseball takes up a lot of my time, but the traveling allows me to Munzee in different cities, and most of the ballparks I have at have munzees in them.

Other hobbies include:
Riding my bike around town with my friends, playing wiffle ball in the backyard with my brother, and, of course, video games.

Any last words?
This weekend I got to meet Matt and also got my 25k badge which was pretty cool.

The Pegasus Mythological!

We’re proud to announce the latest in the Classical Mythology set of munzees, the high-flying Pegasus!

On Tuesday, August 15th at 15:00 MHQ time, 1,600 Pegasus Mythological Munzees will be available in the Munzee Online Store for $20.00 each. Like the other Mythologicals, each player is limited to one (1) Pegasus Munzee per account, and the sale is open to anyone regardless of other Mythological ownership.

Although other Myths like the Faun and Hydra land on Greenies and specific physical Elemental Munzees, the Pegasus is a different kind of beast. The Pegasus will bounce on all colors of Virtual Munzees, Mystery Virtual Munzees, and MVMs as well as Air Mystery Munzees every 12 hours or when captured. Because this Mythological is attracted to so many different kinds of virtuals it will not be attracted to Munzee Magnets.

Name: The Pegasus

Description: The Pegasus Munzee bounces on all colors of Virtual Munzeess, Mystery Virtual Munzees, and MVMs as well as Air Mystery Munzees every 12 hours or when capped. Each is numbered and owned by a Munzee player. Only 1 Pegasus Munzee is allowed per account. You will also earn the Pegasus badge for owning a Pegasus Munzee.

  • Capture: 100
  • CapOn: 100

There is also a line of badges for capturing unique Pegasus Munzees.

To celebrate the release of the Pegasus, we’re also putting 100 more of each past Mythological Munzee for sale on August 15th at 15:00 MHQ time. These will still be limited to one per player account, so if you have one you will not be able to get another. We’ve seen a lot of new players join recently, so here is your chance to own a growing part of the game.

Player of the Week: Hanna Turunen (Jesnou)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is, Hanna Turunen (Jesnou).

Who are you?
My name is Hanna, and my Munzee name is Jesnou.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Siilinjärvi, Finland just about 10 kilometers north of Kuopio.

How long have you played Munzee?
I’ve been playing Munzee since May 2014.

How did you find Munzee?
One day, my hubby (FlexPete) showed me a picture of a QR code and asked if I knew what it was. Of course I knew about QR codes, but his question got me thinking that it would be pretty cool if there was a game that is based on finding and/or scanning QR codes. He got excited and started to tell me about Munzee! He had seen his co-worker trying to find a munzee (He found it!). I installed the Munzee app right away, and we headed to the town to find some munzees. After a couple of days, he created his own account.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I really like that Munzee gets me outside and exploring new places. I also like chasing Mythological Munzees and other temporary specials. But what I really enjoy the most about Munzee is meeting other players and going munzeeing with friends. I try to attend every event in Finland and love to host events as well. Munzee really brings people together and a lot of lifelong friendships can be made.

What is on your wish list?
I hope that I can travel more in the future; attend events abroad and meet more players and makes. Maybe Munzee could add a Munzee piggy bank to their merchandise. I could use it to save for a trip to the US. A Coexist Host badge and more fitness badges would be great. You cannot have too many badges, right?

It might also be time for a new nomad, maybe a “Fortune Teller” nomad that bounces on Zodiac Munzees. I would also like to have a “NEW” filter option in the app that would show all new deploys from the last 7 days.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m a postal worker in a mail sorting centre in Kuopio. I’m married, and we have a 2 year old Coton de Tulear, Jasper. He doesn’t always understand why “mommy” has to stop by every light pole. I enjoy walking in nature and loooove to bake. I listen to music when I’m doing something, so almost all of the time. My friend has inspired me to take more photos, and it’s really fun. I think I might have an eye for photography *grin*.

Other hobbies include:
In addition to Munzee, I love postcards. I’m a semi-active postcrosser. Postcards always make people smile.

Water Mystery Badges!

Last week we released the Earth Mystery Badges and promised new Elemental badge lines in the future too. Well the future is NOW and we’re happy to announce that you can earn Water Mystery Badges!

Wet your whistle with these badges for capturing and deploying Water Mysteries and for drinking Water Droplet Munzees. We won’t show all of the badges in the blog, but here’s a taste of these hydrating achievements.

International Left Handers Day Specials!

Lefties Unite! To celebrate International Left Handers Day and all of our left-handed players, we’ve put together a fun new special for the weekend. Starting at 00:01 MHQ on Friday August 11th, 1,976 Left Handed icons will be on the map until  23:59 MHQ on Sunday August 13th.

The Leftie Specials will bounce on greenies every 6 hours or when captured. To celebrate the 10% of the population that is left handed these specials will also have a 10% chance of scattering a Left Handed Thumbs Up icon.

Points for these specials are as follows:

  • Left Handed Icon: Split of 76 points between the capture and the host owner with a minimum of 19
  • Left Handed Thumbs Up Icon: 76 points for Capture and CapOn

You can also earn a badge for capturing both the Left Handed Special and the Left Handed Thumbs Up.

Remember that these will count towards the Specials Badges and you can use Magnets to draw them out. You can also capture these specials on your own munzees.

Earth Mystery Badges!

When we released the Earth Mystery Munzees, we said badges would be released soon.

Well, soon is a very vague term, and since then, we have released Water AND Air Mysteries! So, excuse our tardiness, but we’re happy to announce some new badges lines are coming out in the near future. To kick things off, we’ve gotten in touch with our roots for some awesome Earth Mystery Munzee badges!

You can now earn badges for deploying and capturing Earth Mystery Munzees. All of these badges will be retroactive and don’t forget that when you cap Earth Mysteries they turn on Recycles, which also have their own badge line. You can purchase Earth Mystery Munzees in the online store.

Birthday Events Wrap-Up

Birthday month has officially ended, but it was a resounding success. Members of Team Munzee loved visiting player events all across the world, which couldn’t have been done without the help of Louise, the Munzee Events Manager. Check out her quick recap of last month’s festivities!

It’s August, our birthday month is finally over, wow, what a busy month that was!!!

Thank you to all of you for your incredible support of Munzee events last month. There were 110 events that took place throughout July and the 6th Birthday Super Rob special was capped an amazing 4,673 times! We gave out thousands of Emeralds with the Dan the Man special and have some fantastic new gardens around the world. We also reached new highs with the events in Germany being the first to hit over 250 attendees, something we haven’t even done at MHQ!

I particularly enjoyed working with new hosts last month, great to see players stepping forward to grow the game in their areas. Please feel free to get into hosting at any time. I will guide you through the whole process and issue you with all the instructions and information you need.

Thank you also for your patience with me over the last month, I was extremely busy with my bicycle races too. Happy to report they are all now completed and I had a wonderful time and picked up a few more wins and fantastic experiences both in England and the French Alps.

I am now recovering at MHQ and catching up with work. I am still shutting down some of the birthday events and awarding host badges so don’t worry if you haven’t got yours yet!

Air Mystery Munzees and Zodiac Credits

Can you feel change in the air? We’re proud to announce the creation of the Air Mystery Munzee!

This new virtual Elemental Munzee is the first of it’s kind. When capped, the Air Mystery Munzee scatters three temporary virtual Feathers in a mile radius for two hours or until capped. When those feathers are captured, they have a chance of throwing three temporary virtual Golden Feathers within a mile radius for two hours or until capped.

These scattered feathers will not land on other munzees but instead will be newly deployed munzees that will be archived after capture or time has expired.

Air Mystery Munzees are being released exclusively to Virtual MunzPak subscribers until they go on sale next month. Be one of the first to deploy an Air Mystery Munzee and sign up for MunzPak HERE.

Deploy: 50
Capture/CapOn: Split of 60 with 5 min

Feather Capture: 5
Golden Feather: 25

Not Blastable

Capture Radius: 300ft

We’re also excited to announce that this month’s physical MunzPak subscribers will receive the all new Zodiac Munzee credit. This credit item works just like the regular Zodiacs, but instead of choosing which month you want to deploy the credit will automatically deploy as the current month. This means it will be worth double points as soon as you deploy it!

Munzee and Freeze Tag Merger

I’d like to communicate a new step in the evolution of Munzee Inc. Before I go any further I’d like to assure everyone, the Munzee family of games (Munzee, WallaBee, Eventzee) you’ve come to know and love will remain the same, if not better. Now that we are clear on that topic I’d like to give you some information on a formal merger of Munzee Inc. and Freeze Tag Inc.

For the last year, Munzee and Freeze Tag have been working together in various ways on Garfield GO! The app is powered, in part, by worldwide Munzee locations deployed by you, our amazing players. Many ideas incorporated into current gameplay are adapted from suggestions provided during early testing by Munzee players. The leadership team at Freeze Tag are top notch guys with vast experience in building apps and bringing in new players. We are excited to see their team join the Munzee family and help us all Grow the Game(s)!

The main reasoning behind the merger is the old saying, “two heads are better than one”. Both companies have done quite a bit of work together and we both believe we are stronger together than separate. In addition to key leadership, Freeze Tag brings experience in licensing deals, having provided the contact that brought the virtual Garfield trail in Muncie Indiana, in the Munzee app.

It would be completely wrong for me not to recognize the work Aaron, Scott, Chris, and Josh did to found this game, in July 2011. Without their idea and tireless (unpaid) work from day one none of us would be playing this game we all love so much. I’m thankful for the opportunity Aaron gave me 5 years ago to start as player and business relations. I felt at home and have loved every minute as the Chief Everything Officer, but it’s time for Munzee to grow beyond my individual knowledge and training.

October 4th will be 4 years since I took over as President, and I’m excited to expand that role into a larger company. I will be President of the newly merged company, and the best part is, I get to return to my passion; ideas, gameplay, community, and making a difference in the lives of our team and collective communities.

The future for the game of Munzee is so bright, with continued focus on WallaBee and Eventzee as well. We also look forward to working on AR components, and additional location-based advertising. All of these things fall in line with the direction we’ve been moving on our own, but we expect to accelerate the pace with our upcoming merged family.

Thank you to all of our players for standing by our side and growing the game over the last six years. As we embark on this new adventure, we’re excited for all of the future possibilities you have helped make reality.
