Player of the Week: Jeen Huisman (J1Huisman)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Jeen Huisman (J1Huisman).

Who are you?
I’m Jeen Huisman, playing the game as J1Huisman.

Where in the world do you live?
I’m living in Zwolle, the Netherlands.

How long have you played Munzee?
Since October 2013.

How did you find Munzee?
I didn’t find Munzee, Munzee found me. Some members of the team I was working with in those days, including me, we caching. We wanted to introduce the game to another coworkers, but that coworker went googling and found Munzee as a new GPS-based game and said, “Why don’t we try this?” So we did, and bit by bit we got hooked on Munzee. So, thanks to “BaDo”, the game was introduced in the Apeldoorn region.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Teaming up with other players and travelling to Munzee fields together; visiting events and hunting down Mythologicals. Munzee brought me back on my bike and made me more fit again by lowering my weight by several kilos. Most captured of Mythologicals in the Zwolle region have been made biking around.

What is on your wish list?
Visiting the United States, especially MHQ in McKinney and capping exclusive local munzees.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m an IT Systems and Application Administrator, happily married for over 30 years (hint, hint, did you already capture that social>>) with Hettie. She joined the Munzee community as “Pinkeltje” in July of this year. We have a daughter (Inge) and a son (Niels). I think most players will have recognized my love for the Frisian Cow in my avatar.

I’m a part of the Munzee clan “Elmbridge Hundred Clan of 1086” with English, American, Swiss, and Dutch players.

Other hobbies include:
Biking, solving puzzles (e.g. sudoku)

Any last words?
Many thanks to the players who wrote to Munzee for my nomination.

J1Huisman has also included some socials, so cap away!

Introducing the Treasure Evolution Munzee!

Our resellers are great at promoting and being ambassadors for Munzee and its community. Over the past few years, we’ve worked with them to bring new ideas and game pieces, like the Reseller Unique Munzees (RUMs), to the game. Now, we’re happy to introduce a new item for our resellers: the Treasure Evolution Munzee!

The Treasure Evolution Munzee, like other Evolution Munzees, consists of three stages: Coin, Bag of Coins, and Treasure Chest.

The points for the Treasure Evolution Munzee are as follows:

Deploy: 20 Points

Capture

  • Coin: 10 Points
  • Bag of Coins: 15 Points
  • Treasure Chest: 20 Points

CapOn

  • Coin: 5 Points
  • Bag of Coins: 10 Points
  • Treasure Chest: 15 Points

The Treasure Evolution Munzee will affect the Evolution badge lines, and will be visible in the physical Evolution filter in the app.

We hope you enjoy the Treasure Evolution Munzee!

Team Munzee to Participate in Tour de Cure!

Last year, we introduced MunzFit as part of our March fundraiser for Skylar, the MDA, and the MNDA. MunzFit events were meant as a way to get our community (and our team) active while playing Munzee. We’ve continued to push ourselves to be more active in our daily lives since then, and now, we’re making another push.

On October 14th, members of Team Munzee will be participating in the American Diabetes Association’s 2017 DFW Tour de Cure. This event consists of a 5k walk/run or cycling up to 62 miles to raise funds and awareness for diabetes. Many members of the team have been directly affected by diabetes, whether it be by friends, family, or personal battles, and a few have taken part in a Tour de Cure event in the past.

We’d like to invite any Munzee community members to join us in our endeavor by participating, donating, or just cheering us on. If you would like to join our team or make a donation, you can follow this link to our Team Page. (Please read all of the information and requirements before signing up to participate.) If you would like to come cheer us on, we’ll be hosting an event of sorts. It is on the Munzee Calendar, and more information will be coming soon.

We’ve also created a Team Munzee cycling club on Strava (a running and cycling tracking social network). If you’d like to join, you can find us here.

Limited quantities of merchandise based on our custom jerseys will be available in the Munzee Online Store soon, but here’s a sneak peak.

The Tour de Cure is just part of what we have planned for the upcoming months, so keep an eye out for some more exciting announcements.

Introducing University Places Munzees!

As August comes to an end, many schools around the world start a new school year. MHQ wants to celebrate that by introducing our next type of Places Munzee: Universities!

University Places Munzees, like the previous Places Munzees we released last month, are deployed on player accounts and have the same point and proximity structure. You can see all of the Places Munzees on the Places Map, and if you need a refresher on how to deploy Places Munzees, you can check out our previous blog post.

Details

Points

  • Deploy: 25
  • Capture: 10
  • CapOn: 5

Proximity: 1 mile from other University Places Munzees

Capture Radius: 1000ft

Multi-Capture: These can be captured 1 time per MHQ day

Badges: These will count toward the Places capture badges.

Criteria

Like the other Places Munzees, there are certain criteria that we look for when approving University Places Munzees:

  • Most Importantly: University Places Munzees must be deployed at a University/College. Please no college annex buildings at grade schools (common in parts of the US).
  • Only 1 University Places Munzee will be allowed per campus. When deploying, please try and position the munzee at the main entrance on the university/college campus.
  • The university/college must be accessible to all, not a private/closed campus.
  • No research institutions unless they are part of a university/college system.

Our ZenDesk will be updated to reflect this information.

University Places Munzees will be available at 15:00 MHQ time TOMORROW (August 22nd, 15:00 CST) for $10 USD. All current Places Munzees will be removed from the store until then as well in order to add this new type. You will be able to find all Places Munzees for sale here August 22nd, 15:00 CST.

Expanded Myth Capture Badges!

With the release of the Pegasus Mythological Munzee alongside the rerelease of all past Myths, we figured it was time to update the capture line of badges for each.

Now each Mythological has a total of 6 capture badges each. Remember that these are for capturing unique Mythological Munzees, so these will depend on capturing different numbered Myths.

Badges have been expanded for all of the Myths:

  • Unicorn
  • Leprechaun
  • Dragon
  • Yeti
  • Faun
  • Hydra
  • Pegasus

We’re won’t show all of the badges in the blog, but here is an example of what to expect:

All of the expanded capture badges are retroactive and now available to earn. These badges aren’t for the casual player, but we know you guys will keep motivated! Munzee on!

Matt’s West Bend, Wisconsin Recap

Howdy, everyone!

Matt here. As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been on the road quite a bit recently. This past weekend, I attended a great event in West Bend, Wisconsin ahead of the West Bend Cache Ba$h.

First off, thanks to Dale (SpaceCoastGeoStore), Barb (DalenBarb), and Bob (Whelen) for hosting and putting together the event. Thirty people scanned the Event Indicator, and we all had a great time scanning the traveling Personal books and capping the trail that Whelen deployed around the park area where the event was held. Joshua Johnson (mayberryman) aka The Geocaching Vlogger stopped by for the event, and we found a unicorn.

I also got to meet this week’s Player of the Week, BigNate27.

I want to say thank you to all of the local players who have been very kind when I’ve been to Wisconsin as well as the all of the players who made the trip to the event. I can’t wait to see you all again.

I’ll be out at events again soon, and I’m looking forward to seeing old Munzee friends and meeting new ones!

Munzee on!
