July 2016 Clan Requirements and the Clan Randomizer

UPDATED 6/29:

  • The 500 points from Double The Fun Events DO count towards Clan Points. Those points ARE NOT doubled.
  • Mythological Munzees, Mystery Nomads, and Physical Nomads (as well as any other specials during the month) DO count towards Clan Wars.

There are two parts to the Clan Randomizer: the clan and the player.

The Clan

Beginning with July 2016’s Clan War, clan admins will have the ability to make their clan “Open For All”. This option will allow players to randomly join their clan. This is an OPT IN feature. You are not required to open your clan to random players. This is helpful if you are looking to fill your clan with 10 players. Remember, rewards are only given to clans with 10 players.

clan_side

The Player

To use the Clan Randomizer to join a clan, all you will have to do is click the “Join Random Clan” button at the top of the page. You will be added to a clan that has “Open For All” ticked and redirected to the Clan Details page of the clan you have joined.

Side Note: Clan Admins

With the addition of the Clan Randomizer, we’ve also changed the Admin process for clans. All Premium Members in a clan will have admin access to the clan. This was changed to give players a chance to fill their clan easily and be more competitive in earning prizes.

To join a clan (either randomly or with friends) or learn more about Clan Wars, go to https://www.munzee.com/clans.

This month is all about getting back to the basics. Many of the specials and updates we have made recently have been leading up to much bigger. This month’s Clan War is just the beginning.

What better way to celebrate our 5th Birthday Month than going old school? This month’s requirements focus on the physical game with double clan points on greenie (regular Munzee) deploys, caps, and CapOns.The double points ONLY apply for clan wars. There will be NO points awarded for virtual munzees. ALL activity on ALL virtual type munzees will be excluded from the clan points for this month. We hope you will also see this as a great equalizer across the entire clan war. Will the same power house clans have what it takes to remain at the top? Will players randomly joined together formulate a plan to reach Level 5? Can we reach 1000 clans before the end of 2016? We shall see at the end of the month. Clan transfer window is the first and second day of each month, so GET READY!

And now, without further ado, July Clan Requirements:

Level 1:
Minimum 1,000 total points per player
Clan total points minimum 12,000
Rewards: 1 mace, 1 virtual

Level 2:

Minimum 5,000 total points per player

Player of the Week: Bettina Kocsis (Bambusznad)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Bettina Kocsis (Bambusznad).

Bambusznad_1Who are you?

I am Bambusznad, Bettina Kocsis.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Budapest (we pronounce it boo-da-pesht), the wonderful Capital City of Hungary, home to several munzees and a few Flat Robs, too!

How long have you platyed Munzee?
I started playing Munzee in October 2013.

How did you find Munzee?
My brother (pulsarxp) introduced the game to me. After finding my first Munzee in October, the next month I joined a fantastic Hungarian clan, and I have been playing ever since!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
My favorite thing about Munzee is the opportunity to meet new people. Local events help me meet people from all over my country, and the clan wars introduce me to players all over the world. We have a great Munzee community in Hungary that is very active. That me the game a lot of fun here! I also enjoy seeing the beauty of Budapest as I munzee downtown and by the Duna (Danube Riber). And of course, like everybody else, I love the badges!

What is on your wish list?
I would like to see several new lines of badges. I think badges awarded for physical deploys in multiple states and countries would be good as well as badges for deploy/capture for resorts and a line for clan participation. Of course I would be happy with any new badges! Finally, I have wanted to visit MHQ in McKinney for a while now. Hopefully that will happen one day soon!

Bambusznad_3

Tell us about yourself!
I was born and raised in Budapest. I was trained as an Economic Informatics Specialist and currently work as an Office Manager for a video security firm. And… I am the biggest Snoopy fan ever! If you don’t believe me, just ask him. His virtual garden is located, where else? Budapest! I also want to thank you for the POTW award – it is a great honor.

Other hobbies include:
I love to travel, especially by airplane. My goal is to visit as many different countries as I can. At the same time, there is nothing as good as a lazy Sunday. I also enjoyphotography and taking pictures of places that I visit as well as photographs of Budapest.

Any last words?
Stay tuned… 🙂

Player of the Week: Garry Robertson (WetCoaster)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Garry Robertson (WetCoaster).

In Canada - US behind meWho are you?

My name is Garry Robertson, known in Munzee as WetCoaster. I live on the west coast of Canada, and it rains a lot.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada with my wife and two daughters.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing on 24 August 2012.

How did you find Munzee?
I heard about Munzee listening to a GeoGearheads podcast. I was already finding Tupperware in the woods, and this sounded interesting.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Munzee allows me to get out for long walks and have something to keep my mind active at the same time. As a Type II diabetic, I need to get out and be as active as I can, and Munzee helps me do that.

What is on your wish list?
Collect them all, of course. Actually, I’d like to see Munzee grow even more than it has in this area. The growth of Munzee and players in the Vancouver area has been amazing the past couple of years, but there are still a lot of places without anything to capture. In October 2014, there were no clans based in the Greater Vancouver Area. There are now 3 clans here.

Tell us about yourself!
In real life, I work in Quality Assurance for the large engineering company building an extension to the existing SkyTrain System in the greater Vancouver area. I’m also a moderator on a G+ Community for Munzee players in Western Canada started by my friend in Edmonton, iicydiamonds. I’ve been in a clan since Clan War #15 – ‘True North Warriors’. I was about to start the first clan in the Vancouver area, but was beaten to the punch by DisneyGirl when she created ‘WestCan Canucks’. Not wanting to be left behind, I quickly jumped from my old clan, sorry iicydiamonds, and joined WestCan Canucks.

WestCan Canucks plus Leprechaun

Other hobbies include:
Several (too many) other geo-location based games, gardening, and genealogy.

Any last words?
People get discouraged if they think they are the only player around. You aren’t alone. Deploy and grow the map. Send messages to the owner of the Munzee you just capped. Get on-line and ask your questions. Talk to people at other geo-location based game events. Put out a munzee at one of those events, and you would be amazed at the interest it will generate.

Player of the Week: Peter Mudge (skindo)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Peter Mudge (skindo).

POTW2 (1)Who are you?

I’m Peter Mudge, aka skindo (a nickname given to me by my children many years ago).

Where in the world do you live?
I live near Masterton (pop. 20,000) in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand.

How long have you played Munzee?
A little over to years.

How did you find Munzee?
I saw a series of munzees alongside a river trail. A quick search on Google, and I was hooked!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?

  • The planning of my Munzee missions.
  • The new places it takes me.
  • Working with other clan members to maximise our clan score.
  • Interacting online with other players around the world.
  • Did I mention collecting the badges?

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

What is on your wish list?
Maybe a small Emerald garden in New Zealand.

A badge for the number of different types of deployments, similar to the Curator and Historian badges for collecting specials.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m happily married with 4 grown children. When I left school, I trained as a carpenter. I’ve since retrained and now work as a secondary school teacher. I’m lucky enough to teach at a school set on 109 acres of land beside a river which is a 10 minutes drive from my home.

Other hobbies include:
I spend a lot of time hiking in the Tarauas (local hills) and also in other places around New Zealand. I also love driving, especially to somewhere I haven’t been before.

Any last words?
A special thanks to everyone involved in putting my name forward.

Beware the Fire…Mystery Munzee

Rob: Yote… Yote… YOTE!!!

Yote: Yes, sir. Mr. Imperial Leader, SIR!

Rob: What are you doing, Yote?

Yote: Munzeeing, of course, Imperial Leader!

Rob: Good to hear, Yote! We have a surprise for you.

Yote: A surprise?! Am I finally getting the Yote Munzee?!?!?!

Rob: Not quite, but close. We’re putting The Yote on some badges for a new Munzee type.

Yote: Badges?? A new Munzee?? Tell me more SIR!

Rob: It’s all below in the blog post, Yote. Thank you for all that you do.

Yote: Thank you, Mr. Imperial Leader!! I’m so money!!! YOTE

Ah, Yote and The Imperial Leader… Well, Rob is correct. We have a new Munzee type coming out. This Munzee is a Reseller Exclusive so you will only be able to purchase them from our Authorized Resellers. They will be released for sale on June 1 at 00:01 MHQ (CST). Matt and Rob alluded to it on this past Friday’s videocast, so without any further ado, we’re proud to introduce the Fire Mystery Munzee!

FireMystery
Let’s start with the basics:

Name: Fire Mystery Munzee

Points:
Deploy: 50
Capture/CapOn: Split of 60 by multiples of 5 with a minimum of 10 (eg, 10, 15, 35, 40, etc)  — Example: capture = 25, cap on = 35.

The Twist(s):
When captured, the Fire Mystery lights three (3) fires within 1 mile on greenies. These will burn for two hours or until capped.

FireMysterySpreadCapping these fires results in two possible outcomes:

  1. There is an 80% chance that the fire will extinguish. For putting out the fire, you will receive 50 points for capture, and the owner of the host greenie will earn 10 points.
  2. The other 20% is a little more dangerous. These fires can also burn you. If you get burned, you will LOSE 5 (-5) points. (The owner of the host greenie will still earn 10 points). It’s a choice of risk versus reward. As the saying goes, if you play with fire you might get burned.

Badges:
Upon release of the Fire Mystery, we will also have three badge lines: Capping the Fire Mystery Munzees, Deploying Fire Mystery Munzees, and “Getting Burned”.

This is where Yote comes in. While we don’t want to go into too much detail of his personal life, he is a frontline firefighter in California who specializes in wildfires. He has very graciously allowed us to use his Yote likeness in the badges. We would like to thank him for that, and even more importantly, everything he does.

Capping the Fire Mystery

  1. Capture 1 Fire Mystery Munzee
  2. Capture 100 Fire Mystery Munzees
  3. Capture 250 Fire Mystery Munzees

“Getting Burned”

  1. Get burned 1 time
  2. Get burned 25 times
  3. Get burned 100 times

Deploying the Fire Mystery

  1. Deploy 1 Fire Mystery Munzee
  2. Deploy 5 Fire Mystery Munzees

We also want to take this opportunity to provide help to our friends to the north. If you haven’t heard, Canada is experiencing terrible wildfires right now. Team Munzee is making a donation to the Canadian Red Cross on behalf of the Munzee Resellers to help those affected by these fires.

If you would like to donate as well, please visit www.redcross.ca. The Government of Canada is matching all individual donations, and they could use all the help they can get.

The Munzee app and website will be updated over the next day to reflect the introduction of the Fire Mystery.

We hope you enjoy the new Fire Mystery Munzee. Try not to get burned too often! 😉

Munzee on!

Rock.. Paper… Scissors… Go!

At the end of 2016, we asked for submissions for the “Make Us A Munzee” competition and then held a final round of voting to choose a winner. In the end, 2dld26 (Deidre Dunhom) came out on top with the Rock-Paper-Scissors Munzee! Since then, we’ve been working with her on everything from points and description, to design, and even to testing. Now, we’re ready to release the RPS Munzee to the public!

RPS_128 (1)

Description

The RPS Munzee is a credit item for greenies. When it is captured, the player is given the choice between Rock, Paper, Scissors, or Random and plays against the computer. Capture points are determined by the outcome of the game.

As a refresher:

  • Rock beats Scissors
  • Scissors beats Paper
  • Paper beats Rock

The RPS is deployed in-app like other credit items. It has the same proximity rules as greenies.

Points

Deploy: 15

Capture/CapOn: Split of 30

  • Computer Wins: 10 points for Capper, 20 points for Deployer
  • Capper Wins: 20 points for Capper, 10 points for Deployer
  • Tie: 15 points for both Capper and Deployer

How do I get one?

The RPS Munzee will be a MunzPak exclusive for the month of June. Each subscriber will receive six (6) in the June MunzPak. Remember your MunzPak subscription renews monthly on your charging date until you cancel. If you would like to start on June 1st also keep in mind the system runs on Central Standard Time (MHQ). Starting July 1st, they will be available in the Munzee Store. More information on that, and a reminder, will come towards the end of June.

The app and website will be updated over the next days to reflect the introduction of the RPS Munzee.

Once again, thank you everyone who participated in the “Make Us a Munzee” competition, and congratulations to 2dld26 for being chosen as the winner! We hope everyone enjoys the RPS Munzee.

Ready to play? Rock… Paper… Scissors… GO! Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Cheryl Wright-Turner (eggbox27)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Cheryl Wright-Turner (eggbox27).

Me and PilseyWho are you?
Cheryl Wright-Turner

Where in the world do you live?
Norwich, Norfolk, UK

How long have you played Munzee?
I discovered it in September 2014 and went on a few hunts thru the Autumn and then really got into it from January 2015 and have been capping and deploying since.

How did you find Munzee?
I’ve absolutely no idea. I’m sure I saw a link somewhere and followed it and it went from there. At the time, I was on maternity leave with my youngest, and I have since used it as a good excuse to go out for a walk and get some fresh air.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I love getting out and going for a walk about and finding munzees, although my pet hate is tree protector hides. I also enjoy seeing new areas and visiting new places. Events are a great way to meet new, like-minded people, and so far, I have been joint host for two with another in the planning stages. I have also managed to travel to a couple of events and hope to travel to some more in the future.

I love the fact that I have made some fantastic new friends, both for myself and my family. My youngest now has a girlfriend whom lives at the opposite end of our road whom we we met thru Munzee, and our clan members are all local players, so we help each other to meet our clan goals each month.

I met CoachV and PilseyGuy last summer at events and look forward to meeting more people over the coming year.

What is on your wish list?
To travel to McKinney, the home of Munzee, failing that Orlando, or anywhere in the states with large clusters of munzees. I have a trip to Cologne planned for later in the year so hopefully I should have fun capping there. I also wish my network provider increased their internet coverage in my local area as once out of the city coverage drops and there are some lovely areas locally I’d love to cap and deploy in which I struggle with using my current provider.

Fun with family & Friends

Tell us about yourself!
I’m married and blessed with 3 wonderful boys aged 9, 8 and 21 months whom often come out capping with me. The older two are great at running ahead and finding them whilst I catch up with the push chair. I’m sure in the future they will want their own accounts in the future.

The Mighty Norwich City Clan

I work part time in retail which I love, and am also a Beaver Scout Leader (the youngest section of Scouting in the UK) and a school governor, which enable me to put something back in the community. I met one of my best friends thru Scouting and she now munzees regularly with me.

I have lived in Norwich since I came here to study at university and haven’t left since. It is a beautiful and quiet corner of the country with a growing community of Munzeers and lots of Munzees. It is also close to the coast which I love to visit.

Other hobbies include:
Apart from Scouting and Munzeeing, I enjoy spending time with my husband and boys and going for days out..

Any last words?
I feel blessed to have been nominated, and look forward to growing the map, meeting more players and capping more Munzees!!!.

Player of the Week: Bert Carter (WE4NCS)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Bert Carter (WE4NCS).

image1Who are you?

My name is Bert Carter. My username is WE4NCS, and it is an actual FCC issued Amateur Radio callsign for the NC State University Alumni Amateur Radio Association. It stands for WE 4 NC State – my alma mater.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Cary, North Carolina which is a large suburb of Raleigh, the capital city.

How long have you played Munzee?
Initially, my adventure with Munzee began with registration in October 2011, but I seriously began playing in June 2012. There were very few munzers and munzees in the area at the beginning, but Munzee activity took off locally in early 2014.

How did you find Munzee?
Munzee was discovered from comments being made on the forums of another GPS game. I initially signed up in October 2011, and my first Munzee was captured on a caching trip to Delaware in February 2012.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
There is more of a sense of community with Munzee across states and the world. The people I have met locally and in the clans and the interaction with the MHQ staff have been enjoyable. Munzee is constantly changing and these changes are usually interesting and challenging. Chasing the new icons, acquiring the new badges, and running after the Unicorns and Leprechauns is a plus. I am honored to be part of the FMH Super Chuckers – once of the consistently top performing clans.

image1 (2)

What is on your wish list?
My wish list includes limits on the numbers of specials like Virtual Shamrocks and RMHs that can be purchased, and a limit on the number of blasts that can be purchased monthly. .

Tell us about yourself!
I have been married to Barbara for over 46 years. I  have two grown, married sons and three grandchildren that live locally. The grandchildren occasionally enjoy munzeeing.

Professionally, I am a registered electrical engineer – PE – and worked for Duke Energy for over 26 years and other engineering design firms for many years, essentially retiring at the end of 2015.image1 (1)

Other hobbies include:
One of my hobbies is amateur radio – my personal callsign has been WA4TLI since the early 1960s. I was a big DX chaser at the top of the DXCC Honor Roll. I traveled to over ten foreign countries on all of the continents to operate my radio equipment temporarily in DX contests. In the early 1990s, I traveled twice to Russia for five weeks as a guest of several Russian amateur radio operators.

Since 2012, I have been a cacher with over 36,000 finds in many states and several countries.

Any last words?
I want to acknowledge several Munzee friends that have made the experience so enjoyable: Judy – doggonefun, Marie and Tim – Hunniees and dt07751, my clanmates in FMH Superchuckers, Tony – tpainter, Carol – jafo43, Lee – lewatkin, Tammy – TheRealGigi. And a shoutout to Rob, Matt, and particularly Louise Gibson with MHQ for all that they do to make things work for all of us.
