Player of the Week: Nancy Kelly (KatzRule712)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Nancy Kelly (KatzRule712).

munz1Who are you?
I’m KatzRule712, and my best Munzee buddy is a dog named Angus. Ironic, I know!

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Eden, a little town near Lake Erie about 30 minutes southwest of Buffalo, NY. We are famous for chick wings, beef on weck, and record breaking snow storms.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing on October 8, 2013. Seems crazy that I have been playing for 911 days.

How did you find Munzee?
I was out in one of my favorite hiking spots looking for a cache with my friend Tucci. We decided to take the direct route which brought us to the edge of a ravine. I heard a disembodied voice calling to us through the fog, and it was Frank Broughton. We climbed down the ravine and up the other side to find him very excited about Munzee Clan Wars. That very day, I went out on a bike path and started capping, so it is all Frank’s fault 🙂

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
The number one thing has to be all the great people I’ve met. So many of them have become really wonderful friends. Next thing I love is capping physical munzees, preferable a long line of them. Walking with Angus and capping stickers is great exercise and lots of fun, especially when some of our friends join us. Munzee road trips are also a great part of the game, and I especially love it when our whole clan was able to attend the Munzee Bash.

munz6

What is on your wish list?
Well I wish to have the 5000 greenies deployed badge. I’m working hard on it every day! I also wish for more variety in the Clan War requirements. I loved it when it changed up more: some months deploys, sometimes points, other times captures. I think this gives more players an opportunity to go for higher levels.munz5

Tell us about yourself!
I’m a veterinary technician, a crazy cat lady, and my best friend is a dog. He loves to munzee, but the cats think we are nuts! I’m lucky to live in an area with lots of munzees. A few early players in our area worked really hard to introduce people to the game (thanks GOF and cski), and now the Buffalo area is covered in green (and blue and jewel tones). I have a great family and love playing the game with my mom, sister, and nephew.

Other hobbies include:
I love to cache, kayak, go hiking and camping. Winter hobbies include crochet, woodworking, and puzzle solving.

Deploy, deploy, deploy!! Love the greenies, and everybody just have fun!

* Activity points include every capture and deploy with the exception of Social Munzees. All other munzee types count toward activity.  EXAMPLE: Capture 1 munzee, receive 1 activity point.  Deploy 1 munzee, receive 1 activity point.
* Activity point requirements were created based on a “per player per day” plan. 1, 2, 4, 10, and 20 respectively. (31 days in the month, with 29 clan play days. We believe in you and know you can achieve based on the number of days in the month!)
** Total Clan Points include all capture, deploy, and cap on points.

______________________________________

2 edit Additions at 11am CST:

EXAMPLES: Capture 1 munzee, receive 1 activity point.  Deploy 1 munzee, receive 1 activity point. (except socials)
1 Unicorn is a double activity – Unicorn cap and unicorn host cap. 1 full motel equals 6 activity points – 1 motel cap + 5 motel room caps. Many other examples are possible, but the rule of thumb is simple, if it shows in your capture/deploy list it is one activity point (except socials).

Yes, there are 31 days in the month, with 29 clan play days. We believe in you and know you can achieve based on the number of days in the month!

FB_IMG_1459936367581Who are you?

Dottie Pratt aka daysleeperdot 🙂

Where in the world do you live?
Just outside of Kansas City, MO in beautiful Greenwood.

How long have you played Munzee?
Since October 2012

How did you find Munzee?
I was attending a large caching event in Iowa in April of 2012. I had noticed a group of people around a sign and decided to check it out, figuring I would find an event cache. Instead, it was a sticker (a BrawnyBear munzee). I scanned it with a QR app and it gave me a link to Munzee. I disregarded it until November 2012 when I was attending another caching event at the same venue with StealthRT and convinced him it was a good idea to give Munzee a try. He reluctantly went along with the idea and we munzeed in the drizzling cold rain all the way back to Kansas City.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Tough question. I mean, there’s just so much that I enjoy! I absolutely find it exciting to collect a new special icon and earn a different badge. Then there’s the road trips – and there have been some AMAZING road trips with friends and family going to Munzee events and such. Plus, I find it comforting in meeting like minded people who understand and agree that it IS fun scanning stickers who have all been extremely friendly. Unfortunately, there is just no way to narrow it down to one thing.

What is on your wish list?

  • To get a job at Munzee! 🙂
  • Make it at least into the top 50 (a reasonable goal).
  • Put my passport to use and travel to Ireland, Germany, Australia, and other new and exciting places. Plus, get some munzees and caches while I’m there, of course.
  • To finally get the elusive “Glitch” badge – that would be amazing!

Tell us about yourself!
I love to travel, and in my opinion, I don’t get to be on the open road enough. I’m also completely fascinated with Tiny Houses and hope to build and live in one in the near future. Then there’s my very understanding husband Corey (BillyBickle) along with my two amazing kids (ArtCrasher and IzzePop) who don’t fully understand my Munzee habit but go along with it anyway, so that’s cool. I also have a rescued Olde English Bulldogge- Tank, who puts up with the props for my Eventzee photos.

Other hobbies include:

  • We own 2 Jeep Wranglers and have enjoyed taking them off-roading many times.
  • Camping, Hiking, and Exploring
  • Running
  • Organic Gardening
  • And caching, too

Any last words?
A BIG thank you to all who nominated for POTW – I am honored and super excited because I get a new badge (doing my happy dance)!!! Thank you! Thank you! Also, thanks to all who have places munzees for me to cap. I have seen some amazing places and have a lot of great memories and stories to go along with a few 🙂 . But a BIG thank you to all the local KC Munzee players, all ofwho are amazing and continue to grow Kansas City.

Player of the Week: Rob Steer (Rubik80)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Rob Steer (Rubik80).

POTW3Who are you?

Rob Steer aka Rubik80, Mr. Steer, The Other Munzee Rob, and Dad

Where in the world do you live?
Shepparton, Australia. Attempts to rename our city Little McKinney and Sheppartonzee have not been met with the enthusiasm I had hoped for at our city council meetings.

How long have you played Munzee?
There was a long wait between when I signed up and when I started playing properly, but about the last 18 months have been pretty productive.

How did you find Munzee?
RebelActs has been a buddy of mine for years and kept talking about this Munzee thing on Facebook. I had a little play with the app, but there wasn’t a lot in Shepparton at that time, so I didn’t give it a second look. It wasn’t until SpySmurf suggested that we give it a go that we started painting the town Munzee green.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
The street cred it gives me. The groupies. The groupies are fun. The all night benders. The regularity with which the 1980’s is celebrated by MHQ. Sleeping on lounge room floors around the state so I can get a full day’s capping in the next day. Getting to work with Louise when I run events! (Hi, Louise!) The exercise. Making new friends. Road trips.POTW4

What is on your wish list?
A Munzee holiday through Europe and Florida with unlimited blasts and an understanding wife. Actually, a wife that plays Munzee would be good too! Yearly visits to Australia by MHQ staff (Editor’s Note: We’d like that, too, Rob… We’d like that, too…) A fundraiser for Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation. Shepparton Council declaring Munzee its official game of choice. An Emerald Garden for Shepparton. How many can I put on my list? Oh, and a drum kit or more Lego would be cool, too, albeit unrelated to Munzee.

Tell us about yourself!
Bit of a geek. Loving husband and dad of 2 boys with another baby on the way. Secondary school teacher of maths, science, and visual communication. Eternal optimist. Terribly impatient. I always need to be doing something.. unless it’s house work.

Other hobbies include:
I really enjoy games and puzzles of any type whether they be video, board, location based, etc. Many of my hobbies involve SpySmurf, too, such as Rogaining, mud-based obstacle courses, and reminiscing about the 80s.

Player of the Week: Stephen Tomlinson (GunnerSteve)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Stephen Tomlinson (GunnerSteve).

Rob At GreenwichWho are you?
Stephen Tomlinson AKA GunnerSteve

Where in the world do you live?
I live in the Medway Towns which are situated in the South East of England

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing Munzee since 4th September 2013

How did you find Munzee?
I stumbled across Munzee while looking for something to help with my rehabilitation after a few leg operations. I came across caching, but that didn’t really suit my situation at the time as it was too intense for my recovery. Munzee, on the other hand, seemed less stressful on my leg, so I gave it a go and have never looked back.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I love walking, so this is another excuse to get out in the community and explore. It has taken me to places that I probably would not have visited, and that is fantastic. The best thing about Munzee, though, is the people, the players, the friendships that have emerged from playing this game. I am a member of The Social Clan (my only clan) and have made some great friends along the way. If I spot a new name capping in the area, I always try to send them a message to welcome them to the game and offer my help if they have any questions. The events are fantastic, and I love meeting players from around the globe. We have held a couple of local events, and we were even graced by the presence of Rob and Louise from MHQ. I am by far not one of the big hitters with the points, but I enjoy playing the game to suit me. That is the great thing about Munzee, play it your way.

Mote Park Event - Social Clan

What is on your wish list?
I would really like the ability to rotate the map in the app and to have your position show on top of everything else. Loads more badges, too. I love the badges..

Tell us about yourself!Dodgy jumpers
I am 48 years young and born and bred in the Medway Towns. My username just comes from the fact that I support Arsenal FC. I live with my wife Allison (iAllyAnne) and 2 of my 4 children (Kaay and Plumster). The two older have left the building and do not play. I have had various jobs in my working life, mainly working in factories making parts for the automotive industry: making diesel pumps, alloy wheels, and leather wrapping car doors are just some of the things I have done. I have also been a postman and also working on the last national census. I have recently started a new job in my local hospital which is a new challenge for myself, but one I am looking forward to.

Other hobbies include:
To be honest, most of my free time is taken up with Munzee, but otherwise you may find me attacking and defending portals (green team) or visiting historical places.

Any last words?
I would really like to thank all of the staff of Munzee for their hard work and dedication to bring us a fantastic excuse to get out and enjoy the surrounding areas. I would also like to thank all of my clan (The Social Clan) for all of their great work and friendships along the way, and of course a big thank you to whoever nominated me for POTW. That was a huge surprise and I would never have dreamed that I would be chosen. Munzee on…

Player of the Week: Ryan Rokey (Rynee)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. 10001584_10202459538624388_466763140_n
Who are you?

Rynee, aka Ryan Rokey.

Where in the world do you live?
Freeport, Illinois, home to events such as the Midwest Munzee Bash 2014, 2015, and MWMB 2016 this coming June 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Yes, that’s 3 days.

How long have you played Munzee?
I created my account in July 2011 and was the 979th player to create an account. I actually deployed a few munzees at the time, but the game hadn’t quite picked up in my area yet, so I stepped away for a while. A few months later, I was in a different area and came across a munzee and re-downloaded the app. I was excited by how many there were in the area, and I’ve been playing nonstop since.

How did you find Munzee?
At the time, I was heavily into caching and was on Facebook when Jason Hale (“Halemeister”) posted a blog listing he had found about Munzee, and I was instantly interested. I immediately downloaded the app, checked out the website, and started printing my own with lamilabel (which have all withstood the test of time and are sill actually in play). Side note: The player that introduced me to Munzee didn’t start playing himself until 2-3 years later.

10610549_10203813655116454_2694564885452435093_n

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
In the beginning, it was all about getting out and getting as many points as I could as well as chasing specials. Over time, it has become more about other players. Getting out and meeting players, attracting new players as well as being able to help and aid other players. I still do enjoy chasing new icons and bouncing specials and getting as many points as I can for my clan, “The Mixed Nutz”. I also love getting out and finding new locations deploy munzees at to bring other players to great locations.

What is on your wish list?
Oh boy. This could be a long list, so I’ll just list a few:

  1. With the acquisition of WallaBee to the Munzee umbrella, I’d love to see player owned badges to Personal Munzees.
  2. It was great to see badges added for deploying greenies, but I would love to see badges for capturing greenies or even an extension to the First Responder badge.
  3. Rovers. Please expand on Rovers. Nothing much has happened to them since launch. They’re definitely a fun addition to the game.

Tell us about yourself!

12790901_10208818028636420_8498970758623921889_n
Well I just turned 34 years old at the beginning of March while on my way to Munzee Madness. I am the father of 3 children, 2 daughters who also play Munzee with their own accounts. They love being able to go out and capture munzees with me. I also have a son who isn’t quite old enough to play yet, but it’s certain that he will.

When I was 17 years old, I enlisted in the US Army and got to travel around quite a bit of places, such as Georgia, Hawaii, and Thailand. Where was Munzee then? There are so many places I have traveled to that I was to go back to because of Munzee.

I currently live in Freeport, Illinois where I work in a factory doing Electroplating in miscellaneous parts and hardware that end up being used in the auto industry for companies such as Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

Other hobbies include:ryanandluke
Other hobbies…hmmm.., well I’m a big fan of doing anything related to being outdoors. I enjoy getting out on hiking trails as well as some mild rock climbing. I also enjoy bicycling and am very fortunate with the amount of biking trails that I have access to, including a 17 mile trail running to the north know as the Jane Addams Trail and the Pecatonica Prairie Path, running 20+ miles to the east. Last summer, I had the chance to go kayaking and absolutely fell in love with it, so I plan to buy my own kayak this year and host some kayaking events this summer. As of lately, I’ve been getting back into caching and will probably do more of it this summer.

Any last words?
I would just like to thank MHQ for the continued expansion and growth of this game we all enjoy playing so much. I would also like to thank all of the players who grow the map for us to be able to get out there and capture munzees. Finally, I would like to thank all of the players that submitted my name for this great honor.

Player of the Week: Jirka Kallio (Jigge)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Jirka Kallio (Jigge).

2016-02-21 15.27.21
Who are you?

I’m Jirka Kallio, but my friends call me Jigge.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Orimatila. It is a little town in Finland with about 16k people.

How long have you played Munzee?
I signed up in June 2013, but didn’t make my first capture until 5/19/14.

How did you find Munzee?
The first time I heard of Munzee was in a Finnish cache forum. My friend Eemeliz1 also played and told me about it. He helped me and showed me how to make my own munzees and deploy them. When I started, there were about twenty greenies and one broken diamond. We worked hard, and now there are a few more you can cap. 🙂

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?

  1. Seeing new places. I’ve traveled to many countries and played.
  2. Seeing other players at events or in the field. I’ve arranged all of the events here. It is a little hard to do alone, but rewarding. I arranged the Easter Event with Sivontim.
  3. I also like the new Munzee types that are introduced.
  4. Teaching kids that you can play games outdoors and not always on that PS3 or XBOX in the house.

FB_IMG_1457806872467

What is on your wish list?

  1. Visiting MHQ and Munzee Marketplace in the summer of 2017. My plan is to take a one month trip and visit as many cities as I can to play. I’d also like to attend events while I’m there. I still have to save a lot of money for that.
  2. There is Flat Rob, but what about adding a new physical Munzee with the same proximity limits? Flat Jigge? Just kidding 😉

FB_IMG_1457806552662

Tell us about yourself!
I’m 33 (maybe 34 when this comes out). My birthday is 3/24. (Editor’s Note: Happy (early) Birthday, Jigge!) I’m single with no kids, so I can play Munzee whenever I want ( like going Unicorn hunting in the middle of the night 😉 ).

I’m a bartender, but I’ll be changing jobs in the next month. My next job will be in a large warehouse where I will be driving a forklift. I’m very excited for it.

I also work with kids and teens as a support person, similiar to a Big Brother. We do things like bowling, rock climbing, going to movies, and so on. I also help them with school work.

Other hobbies include:
Munzee is the biggest thing in my life at this time, but I also like walking/hiking in the forest and taking pictures there. Sometimes I go bouldering or rock climbing with my “little brother”.

2015-05-15 15.58.38

Thank you to everyone who nominated me for Player of the Week.

P.S. – Rob, when are you coming to see our beautiful country? 🙂

Badges for Mythological Munzees are Here!

The release of the Unicorn and Leprechaun Munzees left us (and you) with the inevitable question: When are associated badges being released? As you may have deduced from a previous social post, they have arrived!

Today, we are releasing two badge lines: one for Unicorns and one for Leprechauns. Each line currently has three classes for capturing a number of unique Mythological Creatures: 1 Unicorn/Leprechaun, 50 Unicorns/Leprechauns, and 100 Unicorns/Leprechauns.

These badges aren’t cross-creature, i.e.27 Unicorns and 23 Leprechauns do not equal a badge for either.

Do you have what it takes to rise the ranks? Get out there and prove it! Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Marie Crossman (rosieree)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Marie Crossman (rosieree).

Marie5Who are you?

My name is Marie Crossman a/k/a rosieree.

Where in the world do you live?
I live near the Orlando area of Florida, USA in Longwood.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing Munzee on September 14, 2014.

How did you find Munzee?
My husband was playing and capping the “ice” when those were out. I basically was bored watching him, so I decided to go online, make my name, and begin capping the ice too! That was it! I was totally hooked 🙂 Our first road trip was to the inaugural MHQ Bash in Texas.

Marie8

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I love the fact that I get to walk around some beautiful places that I have never been before in search of a munzee. And the people…oh my, I don’t even know where to begin. I love meeting new people, some of who have become dear friends. I enjoy the events too! We always have a great time hanging out. I love to introduce new people to Munzee and having them get as excited as I do. I appreciate the charities Munzee supports. I find it very rewarding to know that those charities are benefiting from my play! I also love the Social Munzees and have so much fun every month exchanging socials within our group from all over the world! Munzee really does have the best people!

What is on your wish list?
I love the badges, so I am happy that more have been added. Now I would love some new badges for deploying/capping socials. The specials jumping from greenie to greenie is a huge plus, and I love to chase after them! More specials and more badges would be super!

Marie7

Tell us about yourself!
I am the wife to my best friend ever, my husband Warren and mom to five grown children. We have the most precious grandson who loves to walk the trails “looking” for a munzee or anything else that catches his eye (he is now 5 years). I enjoy baking and time with my family and friends and of course our Munzee trips!

Other hobbies include:
When I am not out Munzeeing, I love to do research for my genealogy which has taken me on many road trips. Being a wife, mom, and now a grandma is my greatest joy!

Any last words?
I feel so totally blessed for this nomination. I would like to thank my husband and all my friends who have given me so much joy in this game. I belong to the best group of folks for my clan, the FMH Superchuckers, and appreciate their support each and every month! Also, thank you to all the folks at MHQ for their outstanding work. You all ROCK!
