Breast Cancer Awareness Special

If you attended Lone Star Bash, you probably heard us talk about an upcoming special for Breast Cancer Awareness. As RedCarRobbie said at Sunday’s event, almost every person has been affected by breast cancer in some way or another. We have heard many stories from the community, and we want to show our support.

We are partnering with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money for those affected by breast cancer. This foundation, located in Frisco, Texas just 20 miles from MHQ, reaches many people around the world through research and services provided. We encourage you to check out their website if you would like to learn more about them. To support them, we are proud to announce the Breast Cancer Awareness special.

ribbon-01

For this special, there will be two types of pins: BCA Garden Pin and BCA Temporary Munzee. While they have the same icon, they function differently.

BCA Garden Pin

We have constructed a BCA Garden by the NBCF offices in Frisco that will remain a permanent fixture on the map. There are a limited number of spots available in the garden, so there is a limit of 2 BCA Garden Pins per person. The point structure for these pins are:

  • Capture: 20
  • CapOn: 20
  • Deploy: 20

After checkout, these will be automatically deployed for you. These are available in the Munzee Online Store now for $10.

BCA Temporary Pins

The BCA Temporary Pins can be placed anywhere on the map (they are restricted to normal proximity to other pins, i.e. 50ft from other players’ deploys and 150ft from your own). These will be on the map through December 31st at 23:59 MHQ time. To avoid oversaturation, there is a purchase limit of 50 pins per account. The point structure for these pins are:

  • Capture: 10
  • CapOn: 10
  • Deploy: 10

After checkout, these will be added to your undeployed list. These are also available now in the Munzee Online Store for $2 each. They will be available for purchase until October 31st at 23:59 MHQ time.

Things to note:

  • Both the BCA Garden Pins and Temporary Pins ARE blastable.
  • There is a badge (see below) for capturing or deploying either of the BCA Pins.

ribbon720

  • The BCA Temporary Pins are active in Quick Deploy.
  • There is an in-app filter for the BCA pins. You will need to activate it.

To get the party started MHQ is pledging a base donation of $5000 from October sales to date from blast cap purchases. We have also added ONE BCA Temporary Munzee to all premium member accounts at the time of this announcement!

The Munzee community has always been very giving and compassionate, and we hope to see that trend continue with this fundraiser! Thank you for all of your support! 100% of the funds raised during this time will be donated to NBCF on behalf of our worldwide players! In early November we plan to present a check to NBCF. In conjunction, we will host a player event in the area so stay tuned for more information!

Munzee 3.2.4 and Coins

During Lone Star Bash we introduced a new part to the Munzee game: Coins. The LSB attendees were given a limited edition coin for attending and now is the time to activate that coin! Please read on for more information on Coins and how you can add one to your Munzee gameplay.

coins

We have partnered with Extagz to produce these new game pieces that open up a whole new side of the game. Coins currently allow you to track your captures, and displays them with a map online. You can track virtual and physical captures or only physical captures. (Captures made by use of Blast Captures are not tracked.)

cointrack

As we move forward, new types of Coins will function in different ways and new features will be added as options to all coins.

You may have noticed that Coins are now an option on the Munzee website. Click on the Coins tab to see your current Coins.

coinhome

To activate a Coin, click “Activate New Coin”, and you will be prompted for a code. After linking, you will be taken to the Coin’s homepage.

coinlinkweb

When you click on one of the Coin names, you will be taken to the Coin’s homepage where you can view it’s entries and the map of where captures have been made.

coinadmin

The “Admin” dropdown will allow you to edit and activate/deactivate your Coin. From the “Edit” page, you can change the name of your Coin, add notes, and choose Physical only logs.

coinedit

From the “Visits” tab, you can view where your Coin has been and remove visits by clicking the trashcan icon. You CANNOT add visits.

coinvisits

These functions are the core of Coins and where they will evolve from. We’ve also added Coin functionality to the app.

Munzee 3.2.4 has been pushed to both the App Store and Google Play Store and adds:

  • Coin Functionality
  • Credits View (My Profile -> Credits)
  • Updates to the friend search list
  • Updated Scanner
  • Minor bug fixes

Propagation of the app to your area may take some time, so please be patient.

In the app, you can add and activate/deactivate Coins. To do this, tap on “Coins” under “My Profile” (which is right above “Credits”).

coinpro

This will take you to your Coins list.

coinlist

To add a Coin, tap the “+” icon at the top right, enter your code on the next screen, and tap the checkmark. When a valid code is entered, you will see a confirmation message. Tapping “OK” will return you to the “Coins” page.

From the “Coins” page, you can activate and deactivate coins by swiping left on the name and tapping the activate/deactivate button. Deactivated Coins will show “not active” under the image.

Munzee Pin, Flat Rob, and Longsword Coins are now available in the Munzee Online Store for $10 each.

We can’t wait to see how you use Coins! Stay tuned for future additions to the Coin line and ways to track your coins.

MunzPaks, Farm Sets, and Sapphires

Two years ago, we launched the MunzPak service with the idea of getting new and exciting products into your hands at a great value. We’ve tinkered and refined our approach to it throughout the years to make sure you have the best experience. Everyone plays the game differently, and it can sometimes be challenging to find the right balance for everyone. One of the questions we’ve been asked frequently is if we were considering a virtual only MunzPak. That answer is now yes.

Starting October 1st, we will be offering both MunzPak and Virtual MunzPak. MunzPak will remain $15 and be the same service it has been, mostly physical stickers with occasional virtuals and credits. Virtual MunzPak will be $25 with a minimum value of $40 each month. It will include virtual and credit items only. Like MunzPak, Virtual MunzPak subscriptions will process at midnight MHQ time, meaning that your items will appear in your account at that time the day your payment is processed. You can subscribe to the MunzPak, the Virtual MunzPak, or both. From the MunzPak homepage, you will be able to subscribe and manage your subscription(s). If you need a refresher on how the recently updated MunzPak homepage works, check out the blog post.

This leads us to the Evolution Munzees and the Farm Set. As we mentioned previously, Premium Members will receive a free Golden Carrot credit on October 1st. Due to the “evolution” part of these munzees, this will only be a convert option for uncapped greenies within the first 24 hours of deploy or for never deployed greenies. This is to avoid potentially missing stages of the evolution (if a greenie that had been deployed three months ago was converted, the time from deployment would have already passed for the stages). The rest of the Farm Set will be launching in the MunzPaks. The Carrot and Peas will be included in the Virtual MunzPak while the Corn and Tomato will be included in the MunzPak.

But wait, there’s more!

gemvirt_dkblue_128

Sapphire is the third hardest mineral with a 9 on the Mohs (hardness rating) Scale, the birthstone of September, and the gem of 5th and 45th anniversaries. It’s also the newest Munzee gem. While the MunzPak has had the Topaz and Pink Diamond, it’s only fitting for the introduction of a new gem alongside the Virtual MunzPak: the Virtual Sapphire. The Virtual Sapphire has a capture radius of 300ft, proximity rules of 50ft from other munzees and 150ft from your your own munzees, and IS blastable. The points are as follows:

  • Deploy: 45
  • Capture: 18
  • CapOn: 9

Now that all of the new munzees are out of the bag, here’s what’s included in the October MunzPaks.

MunzPak

  • 20 Flag Skinned Munzees (10 each of Australia and Finland)
  • 10 Corn Evolution Munzees
  • 10 Tomato Evolution Munzees
  • 4 Topaz
  • 1 Virtual Sapphire

Virtual MunzPak

  • 5 Virtual Carrot Evolution Munzees
  • 5 Virtual Peas Evolution Munzees
  • 2 Virtual Sapphires
  • 2 Diamond Credits
  • 2 Ruby Credits

We realize this is a lot of information all at once, but we wanted to make sure everything was covered. We hope you enjoy these new items and options. We can’t wait to see everything on the map!

The Farm Set and the Golden Carrot (UPDATED)

Updated with more information regarding the credit aspect of the Golden Carrot.

Last week, we introduced the Evolution Munzee and it’s first set — the Farm Set. As a refresher, the first subset of the Farm Set includes Tomato, Corn, Carrot, and Peas. We have more information to share, starting with what some of them actually look like.

There was one vegetable that we left out of the original blog post: The Golden Carrot.

golden_carrot

We want to kick off the month with some shine. On October 1st, all current Premium Members will have a Golden Carrot added to their accounts. The Golden Carrot is a credit that is applied to a generic and will only be available to Premium Members. This will only be a convert option for uncapped greenies in the first 24 hours after deploy or for never deployed undeploys. When deployed it will grow just like the others, reaching golden carrot status in it’s final stage. We appreciate our premium members and hope you enjoy this special game piece!

Information regarding the availability of the rest of the Farm set will be available very soon, so keep an eye out!

Introducing the Evolution Munzee

The best thing about Munzee is the community. You can meet people from around the world, make lifelong friends, and, in some cases, visit these friends. Events allow the community to foster these friendships even more. After capping and deploying in an area, however, there may be little left for further experiences in these areas because of density. On the other hand, players in more sparse areas are sometimes left without new munzees to capture regularly by no fault of their own. We want to help both of these groups grow the map and have new munzees to capture. In that spirit, we’re excited to introduce the Evolution Munzee.

How It Works

The Evolution Munzee is a new type of munzee with subsets of types. The basic principle is this: when a certain threshold is met (e.g. time, number of captures, etc) after being deployed, the Evolution Munzee will “evolve” into something new. Once this occurs, players will be able to recapture said munzee as if it were a special. Depending on the subset of the Evolution Munzee, this can occur multiple times. The first subset of Evolution Munzees will be the Farm Set.

The Farm Set

The Farm Set will begin with four “seeds”: Tomato, Corn, Carrot, and Peas. First, the “seed” is deployed. After 30 days, the “seed” will evolve into a “plant”. The icon will change, and you will be able to capture the plant even if you captured the original seed. Thirty days after the “seed” evolved, it will evolve once more into the “vegetable”. Once again, the icon will change and you will be able to capture it despite previous captures. This is where the Farm Set ends. (Future subsets may have more or less evolutions or different requirements.) You can only capture each stage of the evolution once, but you do not have to capture each one. Once the munzee reaches the final evolution, it will remain in that state.

For example: Tomato Seed -> Tomato Plant -> Tomato; Peas Seed -> Peas Plant -> Peas

Point Structure

For the Farm Set, the points will be as follows:

Deploy: 20 Points
Capture: Seed 10 Points; Plant 15 Points; Vegetable  20 Points
CapOn: Seed  5 Points; Plant  10 Points; Vegetable  15 Points

We want the Evolution Munzee to promote growth in new and old areas, maintenance of areas, and expanded community involvement and interaction. More information, including availability and other sets, will be provided soon. We hope you enjoy these!

Virtual Reset

You’ve probably noticed that we’ve been encouraging quite a bit of map clean up recently. From the Recycle Icons in June (and again in August) to the introduction of Dormant and Inactive player account titles. We want to ensure that current players aren’t being hindered or shut out by those who don’t maintain their munzees. With your help, these actions have cleaned much of the map and brought it to the best condition in years. This progress is now going to be taken to a new level.

On October 3rd, a virtual “reset” will be taking place. If you are an active player who does not have a “Dormant” or “Inactive” title, you have nothing to worry about. Your virtuals will remain in their locations. For those WITH “Dormant” or “Inactive” titles, please be aware that this will be taking place. (If you need a quick reminder about these titles, check out the Post from the Prez.)

Virtuals of “Inactive” players will be undeployed and their coordinates will be reset. They will then be placed back in their Undeployed list. If these players become active again, they will be able to deploy them again anywhere in the world. “Inactive” and “Dormant” players will also be receiving an email with this information. Virtuals that WILL NOT be effected are:

  • Emerald Gardens
  • Miss Wheelchair USA Garden
  • Virtual Resorts
  • Virtual Trails

While we hate to see players become inactive, we certainly understand that life can get in the way, priorities change, etc. Players who are respectful to the Munzee community and its rules are certainly welcome back any time. However, there are some inactive players who have vast quantities of virtuals in high density areas to the point that they have monopolized them. In most of these cases, it was done when Virtual Munzees were first introduced. Now, those former players receive no benefit from the points being earned, and you, the current players, do not benefit as much from the newer munzees with more beneficial point structures. While we are grateful for all of those who have played, our current and future players are our main priority.

Now, you may be thinking, “I’ve got an “Inactive” tag, but I don’t want this to happen to me. What can I do to stop it?” Or, you may be thinking, “I’m an active player. I just wanted to know what was going on, and now I’ve read this long blog post. Have I just wasted that time?” For those in the former category, all you have to do is scan the munzee below. Doing so will remove your account from a “Dormant” or “Inactive” status, and your account will not be effected. For those in the latter category, no, of course you haven’t wasted your time! You read our blog, and we appreciate it very much because it means you’re a great part of our community and will most likely spread the word. Also, you get to scan the munzee below to earn points! Proactive current players might also start to plan for upcoming open locations to deploy virtuals, these will obviously be first come first served. We will post a list of player generated virtual gardens prior to October 3.

resetcode

Highlights:

  • Virtual Reset occurring October 3rd
  • Reset effects virtuals of players with “Inactive” title
  • Does not effect Emerald Gardens, Miss Wheelchair USA Garden, Virtual Resorts, or Virtual Trails
  • Virtuals will be undeployed, have their coordinates reset, and will be returned to the player’s Undeployed list
  • Previously occupied locations will be open for new/current players to deploy
  • Scan the munzee above to remove “Inactive” or “Dormant” status or if you just want the points

Thanks for your support, and Munzee on!

Resort, RUM, and Recycle Badges!

Badges are a large part of Munzee, and we love adding new and exciting ones to be earned. As you may have noticed, we launched five new badge lines this morning. These lines are for Virtual Resorts, RUMs, and Recycle Icons.

Virtual Resorts

Two lines of badges have been added for Virtual Resorts: one for capture and one for deploy. Each line currently has three badges associated with it and can be found along with Motel and Hotel badges in the app and on the website.

The badges in the capture line are awarded for renting a room in 25, 75, and 100 Virtual Resorts, respectively.

The badges in the deploy line are awarded for owning and deploying 5, 25, and 50 Virtual Resorts, respectively.

RUMs

Capture and deploy lines have also been added for the Reseller Unique Munzees (RUMs). There are also three badges in each of these lines.

The badges in the capture line are awarded for capturing 5, 10, and 25 RUMs, respectively.

The badges in the deploy line are for deploying 1, 5, and 10 RUMs, respectively.

There’s more in the works for RUM badges, so keep an eye out.

Recycle Icons

Last, but not certainly not least, we’ve added a line for the Recycle Special. These badges are for capturing 1, 50, and 100 Recycle Icons, respectively.

These have been just the beginning of new badges and lines to come. We’re excited to unveil them soon!

The Legend of the Pink Diamond

It’s been almost a month since the Dragons unleashed their fury upon the Munzee map. Traversing the globe and igniting fires has led to chaos among the other two Mythological Munzees. They say beauty comes from chaos, though, and we have stumbled upon some of that beauty.

Gem_Pink_128

Among the riches that the Dragons were guarding, we found a never before seen gem. This diamond is believe to have been altered by the fire and strength of the Dragons. It gleams a light shade and has become known as the Pink Diamond. While the history of the Pink Diamond isn’t completely known, we do know the point structure of it:

Deploy: 45 points

Capture: Split of 25 points with owner; minimum of 5 points

CapOn: Split of 25 points with capper; minimum of 5 points

(Examples: 20 points for capper, 5 points for owner; 10 points for capper, 15 points for owner)

The rarity of the Pink Diamond is similar to the Topaz Munzee. As such, the Pink Diamond will be a MunzPak exclusive. It will be introduced for the first time in August’s MunzPak. If you’re not yet a MunzPak subscriber, you can visit https://www.munzee.com/munzpak to join and be one of the first players to get your hands on one!

Have fun hunting the new Pink Diamond, and Munzee on!

They’ve Risen Out of the Fires

For nearly 8 months, Mythological Munzees have roamed the map in peace. The Unicorns roamed for months and eventually drew out the Leprechauns to play. Shamrocks bloomed and treated these creatures to wonderful landing spots. But everything changed when the mysterious fires appeared.

When captured these fires spread flames around, igniting Greenies for short periods of time. But they also had a different purpose. They laid the path for something new and unknown. The scorched land of Munzee became a new home for another Mythological Munzee. It began laying it’s eggs and preparing to join it’s brethren. After a month of waiting, this Mythological Munzee has been joined by 999 others. Now, they’re ready to be released. The Dragons need to be tamed.

Dragon_720

The Dragon is different than his other Mythological family. It doesn’t hide on or eat Shamrocks. It scorches greenies that it lands on and thrives in the heat of the Fire Mysteries that brought it to life. When captured on a Fire Mystery, it gets angered and shoots out the Fire Mystery’s scattered flames. It takes no mercy. If you think you can tame one, though, you may get your chance.

On Friday, July 1st, the 1000 Dragon Munzees will be available for sale in the Munzee Online Store. From 10:00 MHQ time through 13:59 MHQ time, Dragons will first be available for those who DO NOT own a Unicorn OR a Leprechaun. At 14:00 MHQ time, the remaining Dragons will be available to everyone. There will be a limit of 1 Dragon per account with no exception. Like the other Mythological Munzees, they will be priced at $20 each and are only available in this limited quantity. Owners of Dragon Munzees will also received the Dragon badge.

Dragon_Badge_720

Do you think you can handle the heat?
