Cash In Sand Dollar Credits!

To kick off 2024 we’re ignoring the winter warnings and celebrating sunnier seasons like our like-minded Snowbird friends! Vacationing at the beach can be a little tough on the budget though, so we’ve sifted through the sand and discovered an all new limited-time credit for you to earn!

Like Jewel Shards, Weapon Shards, and Cogs, you’ll be able to redeem Sand Dollar Credits (SDC) at the Redeem Store for game pieces. However, like the past limited-time credits, they can only be redeemed until 12:00 MHQ on Friday, March 15th. The goodies in the Redeem Store will change every few weeks, so be sure to check back often for new redeemable prizes!

How to Earn Sand Dollar Credits

Sand Dollar Credits can be earned from now until 23:59 MHQ on Sunday, March 10th.

You can earn them the following ways:

  • Chance to earn 1 SDC upon capturing Sand Sculpting Specials announced earlier today!
  • Chance to earn 1 SDC upon capturing Greenies
  • Chance to earn 1 SDC upon capturing an Aquamarine or Water Mystery
    • Owners of these munzees will also have a chance to receive SDC
  • Chance to earn 1 SDC upon capturing an Event Pin (excluding the Event Indicator Pin)

Dig In With Sand Sculpture Specials!

Depending on which hemisphere you call home, you might be trodding through snow 4 feet (or a couple meters!) deep trying to cap munzees! Well some of our more experienced players have learned over the years to migrate to warmer locales during these colder times, and we’ve taken a page from the Snowbirds’ book! From NOW until Sunday, March 10th at 23:59 MHQ Turtle and Crab Sandboxes will be bouncing around the map, and you’ll have the chance to build Sand Sculptures sure to amaze!

Sand Sculpture Specials

Sandboxes will be released in waves, but will end at a total of 1,500 Turtle Sandboxes and 1,500 Crab Sandboxes. They will bounce around every 4 hours or when capped. Building sand sculptures is no easy feat though, and as you know practice makes perfect! So get ready to rinse and repeat in the ocean water before the tide rolls in and you have to start your sandcastles all over again!

When a Sandbox is captured, sand tools of the same color will scatter nearby! The more Sandboxes you capture, the more you will level up your Sand Sculpting skills to reveal different levels of tools that scatter. The higher level tools captured will allow you to find and create more advanced Sand Sculpture designs! If you don’t see any higher level scatters yet, be sure to keep capturing Sandboxes to level up!

While we want to keep most of them a surprise right now, here’s a sneak peek at one of the Level 1 Sand Sculptures:

These specials will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture a Sandbox on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Sandbox visits you. These munzees will not be blastable. They will be attracted to magnets, available from the Freeze Tag Online Store. You can access these specials under the “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Specials” filters.

Badges

There will be a total of 6 new badges to earn from capping Sand Sculpture specials:

  • The 1st line has 3 badges which are based on the total number of Sandbox captures.
  • The 2nd line has 3 badges, and they are based on finding and creating all the different Sand Sculptures in the set. Here’s a sneak peak of one badge below!

Make sure to keep capping Sandboxes each week to see if any new items have been released!

Celebrate Wild Weather with NEW Cards and 2X Points Weekend!

It’s a brand new year and although we’re trying our best to stay warm in Texas (who would’ve thought?) we’re very envious of all the Snowbirds who have migrated to Florida for Florida Mecca Munzee Events this weekend! To celebrate we’ve got a few NEW Greeting Cards, and don’t forget it’s also a double point weekend so be sure to deploy even if you can’t make it out to an event! Read on to learn more!

Final Garden Hedge Blog!

As the year comes to a close, we wanted to make sure you were heading into January with your desired Garden Hedges! The skin for completing your December capture streak (and the corresponding badge), which is the Penguin Garden Hedge shown below, will be awarded in early January. But, we couldn’t wait to tease what’s in store for next year!

December Garden Hedge Reminders

If you haven’t picked up a Garden Hedge yet, they are available in the Freeze Tag Store for $1. But keep in mind they will all expire at the end of this year after Dec 31, 2023, unless you have collected enough to keep a permeant one into the new year! Read on below to find out more!

How to have a permanent Garden Hedge on your account next year:

  • Own at least 8 Garden Hedges by the end of the year
    • Each month, the price of a Garden Hedge will decrease by $1.
    • However, players can only purchase 1 Garden Hedge every 28 days.

Where to stock up on Garden Hedges if you missed out on earlier months:

  • Reseller Garden Hedges include the base Garden Hedge AND the special Reseller skin — if you’re interested, you can check out our blog post on them HERE!

Permanent Garden Hedge Details

In January 2024, if you met the requirement to receive a permanent Garden Hedge, you’ll see the new Garden Hedge in your account, which behaves the same way as the original Garden Hedge we released in January 2023. You will have the ability to convert this permanent garden hedge into any of the skins you have earned in 2023.

All temporary Garden Hedges deployed in 2023 will be archived before we start the process of adding the new permanent Garden Hedges to players’ accounts.

We’ve continued to add badges to the “Overall deploy” and “Overall capture” lines — both lines now have 6 badges each. We’ll keep the requirements a secret, but here’s a peek at a few of the most recently released badges:

Fast Forward Through Holiday Stress With Flat DHS Scatters!

Thanksgiving travel is one of the busiest times of the year and Dylan is on a mission to return his tapes to the only video rental store in the country! Unfortunately his collection of mint condition retro relics is so big he keeps dropping them, so we need your help cleaning up his mess. In celebration of World TV Day we’re bringing back the Flat DHS scatters, so be kind and rewind while you can!

Limited Time Scatter Details

From the period of Tuesday, November 21st at 00:01 MHQ through Sunday, November 26th at 23:59 MHQ, when you capture a Flat DHS, up to 3 Tapes may be scattered nearby!

As before, the Tapes will be visible to any player and will be deployed on the Flat DHS owner’s account. This means that unlike Feathers/Boulders, there are CapOn points for the owner! They expire after 120 minutes, have a capture radius of 300 feet, and you’ll be able to use Rover Treats to capture them as well! These tape scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks, ZeeOps, or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

The rewards for Tapes are as follows:

  • Capture: 50 points
  • CapOn: 25 points

Need more Flat DHS’s near you? We’ve got a “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” discount you can use at the Freeze Tag Store! You must add 3 Flat DHS’s to your cart to use it (in other words — put 6 in the cart, pay for 4, 2 are free). There is NO CODE required — the discount should apply automatically! This discount will be valid for the same time period as the scatters mentioned above.

Munzee Events in 2024!

It’s almost 2024, where has the year gone?!?

We’re so excited to look back on events over the past few years. We’ve seen players gathering together monthly for local events and building communities that enjoy playing Munzee together. Players around the world deploy at events, big and small, to make every event unique and special.

No More Monthly Events

In 2024, we’re going to move away from the monthly events system we’ve used the past two years. The goal was to increase event attendance and the number of events. We feel successful in what we’ve accomplished in this area. We’d like to focus on making events more special and have them feel less like a “requirement” just to earn a badge or gift for the hosts. We understand the pressure some felt to keep hosting events month after month, sometimes with very little help.

In 2024, we will have several special event packages throughout the year, like our current Christmas event package. The first special package will be for the month of February. We encourage players to gather as often as you like, while we return to this system of events from years ago. We will offer the ability for hosts to add custom badges and icons to any events if they like. Our hope with this change is to bring players together for special occasions as often as you like. We will continue to have double point weekends each month, so don’t worry about that!

Upcoming Event Credits!

In 2024, we’re also going to introduce a new reward credit to the event ecosystem. By attending events and capping Event Munzees you’ll be able to earn special credits to use a special section of our Redeem Store! There will be some unique rewards and also current rewards at reduced rates. We hope this will encourage all to attend events, and provide value beyond just the points you receive on that day. The best part of events is often the time spent with other players, but extra rewards certainly won’t hurt!

Updates to Mega Events

In terms of Mega events, we’re going to tweak how this is handled as well. No one will “apply” for mega event status. It will be earned through attendance, then credited by our team after the events have ended. There will be a special new badge for Mega events that have 50 attendees. Will we see events return to more than 100 players in 2024? If so, will there be a special badge for that? Only time will tell, so who will organize the first event that “goes Mega” in 2024?

We know there are some traditional yearly events that have more than 50 attendees and expect they will continue, so we are very excited to offer this NEW badge to celebrate their hard work. We will keep an eye on the calendar for how many have marked “will attend” and will promote these events for any who may want to earn these special new event badges.

We can already see on the calendar some of our annual events are ready to continue.

Scaring Is Caring With NEW PreZent Specials!

WHAT’S THIS?! You may have thought spooky season was over, but we have a few more nightmares before Christmas gets here! Remember scaring is caring though, so we’re excited to announce a new series of spooky PreZent Specials that will take us into the new year!  From NOW until Sunday, January 14th at 23:59 MHQ QReepy and Vile PreZents will be bouncing around the map, and you’ll be able to unbox a variety of different spooky goods.

First up we’re having a SCREAM light special on Halloween themed Terror Toys which can only be earned by capping the base PreZents! Sure it’s the season of giving, but these gifts were a scary good deal and they’ll be perfect donation items for Toys For Trolls. Don’t worry there will be plenty of other scary seasonal gifts throughout the next couple months so expect more wicked winter PreZents just in the St. Nick of time for Christmas!
