Be Careful Not to Walk Into Anything With These 20/20 Vision Munzees!

If the nostalgia from the Viewfinders released earlier in the month wasn’t enough to hold your attention, maybe a high-tech version would have more success! The tenth 20/20 Vision Munzee can be considered the child of the Viewfinder, as it fulfills the same function of encapsulating your entire field of vision with an artificial environment, but is still being actively developed today. These blocky blinders were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Have you tried on a pair of these in real life?

Only five pairs of VR Goggles will be deployed, and they will bounce to all colors of virtuals every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Virtual Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing the VR Goggles will add this sleek Virtual Vision badge to your collection! Remember, down the line we’ll be putting out an overall capture line, so don’t forget to check back for updates!

While it is not recommended to be mobile while wearing VR Goggles, many companies, such as CapToGlove and Cybershoes, have been developing controllers that make up for this limitation. CapToGlove’s aim is to make your hand the controller, with various hand gestures mapped to certain commands. Meanwhile, Cybershoes let you get in a little bit of exercise — while seated, you can move your avatar around by taking “steps.” The bottoms of the Cybershoes are designed to make it easy to slide your feet while seated. Both technologies definitely take some getting used to, but certainly something to try if you’re looking to enhance your VR experience!

You’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. More unique 20/20 Vision specials will launch throughout the year so keep on the lookout — you won’t want to miss out on these trendy lenses!

May 2020 GOTM Winners + June POTM Requirements!

This month, we took a break from Social DistanZEEing events as we focused our development time on some exciting new things we have planned. However, we made sure that May still had a lot of new things to interact with! We celebrated May Day in the Munzee world by releasing World Laughter Day specials and three new Baby Animals in Munzpaks! New Places Munzees followed the next week, which included the much awaited Beach Places munzee! The week after brought Smaragd (we can kind of pronounce it now, can you?) and Skyland, which has been a popular destination for many players! And just last week, Hometown Heroes specials started appearing on the map in batches, along with new variants for the Cyclops and Nymph! Last but not least, we also released a few new Greeting Card munzees!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the May Garden of the Month (GOTM), give one last reminder for May Player of the Month (POTM), and announce the criteria for June POTM! The badges for May GOTM and POTM will be awarded in early June, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

May GOTM

When choosing May GOTM, we couldn’t resist choosing another flower-themed garden — after all, one of the new Greeting Card munzees is called “May Flowers“! As for the other winner — let’s just say it relates to one of the aforementioned “exciting new things we have planned.” Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Flower at Fort Monostor, designed by Laczy76, and MOA UNICORN, designed by geomatrix, as our winning May GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

Flower at Fort Monostor by Laczy76 in Komárom, Hungary

This cute design reminds us of the beloved Eric Carle’s artwork! Simple shapes and bright colors!

Good things come in small packages, and this garden is definitely one of them! A nice compact size to hand-cap if you’re visiting the Fort Monostor museum!

MOA UNICORN by geomatrix in Bloomington, MN

Did you notice all of the Flat Hammocks around the edge of this garden? It’s unicorn-ception!

This is just one of geomatrix’s gardens that highlights the new square pin design we adopted with the release of Munzee 4.0! He’s also made a garden for the Yeti and Mermaid! You can see these designs and others he’s created  at this spreadsheet: LINK

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Send your nomination for GOTM to iloveyou@munzee.com! Keep in mind that we take all former nominations into consideration for upcoming months. Just be sure your garden follows the nomination rules in order to be considered eligible!

If you need help deploying in a Virtual Garden, you can check out this step-by-step tutorial that will making deploying in a garden easy no matter how long you’ve been playing. To fill in the gardens, make sure to stock up on Virtuals and Color Credits from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

May POTM

May’s POTM called for nominations for players you’ve sent a Greeting Card munzee to. We wanted to help spotlight these special pen pals, who are crucial to staying sane during these difficult times! There’s still a little bit of time left to send in nominations, so if there’s anyone who fits this criteria, please fill out the Google Form at https://forms.gle/dqEHrv29yiK2YSnJ6

Congratulations to all the players who were nominated! You can expect to see the badge in early June. If you were not nominated, maybe this coming month’s POTM will work out better for you. Keep reading to find out!

Thank you for spreading friendship and love across the globe with Greeting Card munzees! We were hoping they would help players feel more connected since Munzee friends are perhaps the most important part of the game!

June POTM Requirements

For June’s POTM, we want to see at least 1 Places Munzee capture for each day in the month. Since the range on these munzees is much larger than most other types, we thought this wouldn’t be too tough to achieve — anyway, they’re probably already part of your routine!

Working towards this requirement will also contribute progress towards Places Streak Badges, so if you haven’t earned those yet, maybe this is the month to do it!

As in the previous months, this unique POTM badge is eligible for any player to earn regardless of previous wins. The badge will appear as follows:

We hope you’re excited for what June has in store!

June 2020’s Resolution Can Be Done In Place!

Summer is almost upon us — how did that happen? Time seems to flow extremely slowly in our day-to-day, and yet somehow, whole months have passed! June is a time for graduations, weddings, and many other celebrations, so if a special day of yours is coming up, we hope you have a great one! As we announced in our January Resolutions blog, we will be launching monthly Capture Streak Badges centered on a year of being active. Each month’s badge will be dedicated to practicing a different exercise. Similar to how our Super Streak badges operate, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. This month’s badge may be tricky to get, but we believe in you!

Each month’s badge will be themed around the particular resolution goal. For June, we’ve decided to feature the old standby — jogging! Jogging is a great aerobic exercise because it requires you to maintain a brisk pace for an extended period of time, rather than running as fast as you can in one burst. The idea is that you won’t use up all your energy at once and stop before reaching the recommended amount of active exercise time (at least 30 minutes a day, which can be broken up into chunks as small as 10 minutes).

Jogging is easy enough to do, but so boring! How can I make jogging more fun and keep my motivation up?

Of course, there are the usual ideas — make a fun playlist to listen to as you jog and wear a colorful outfit you feel good in, like the people in the badge art above. Plan a scenic route so you’ll enjoy the view. But if you want to mix it up a bit, why not pretend you’re the lead actor or actress in an action movie or TV show? There’s lots of things to be running away from, like zombies, large boulders, explosions — you name it! There are even apps to help make the experience more immersive, such as Zombies, Run!

Similarly, if you are going to be jogging on a treadmill or in place indoors, you could watch your favorite action movie or TV show at the same time to help with your image training! Rocky training montage, anyone? What are some other great movies or shows to watch while jogging?

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

** MUNZEE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY EXERCISE-RELATED INJURIES

A Fresh Batch of Greeting Cards are Heading Your Way!

We keep getting great ideas for new Greeting Card munzees! Last week we teased the “Howdy” and “Safe Travels” cards — are you ready for even more options?

We are happy to announce 6 NEW Greeting Cards are now available for purchase! You can pick up Greeting Cards from the Freeze Tag Online Store HERE. You receive multiple munzees from your single purchase. Read the details in the store, or see below.

NEW Greeting Card Munzee Details

We have 5 new Open Edition cards and 1 new Limited Edition card for your deploying pleasure!

Just in time for graduations, you can now celebrate someone’s accomplishments with a Congrats Card!

Or take the first step in moving past an argument, extending sympathy, or just sharing a hug with a Sorry Card. Sorry card number 3 is the sign language symbol for I’m sorry.

Lastly, you can send a lovely, allergy-free bouquet to a loved one with a May Flowers Card! (only available through the end of the month)

Don’t forget to edit the title and the notes to add a personal touch! While the capture message will contain your Munzee username as all Greeting Card capture messages do, we think typing in a more specific congrats note or your best apology (respectively) will go a long way to creating a more unique and special experience!

This brings the current lineup of Greeting Cards available for purchase to the following:

  • Open Edition (will always be available; ONE Purchase yields FOUR munzees)
    • Birthday
    • Get Well
    • Thank You
    • Congrats
    • Sorry
    • Sorry 1
    • Sorry 2
    • Sorry 3
  • Limited Edition (will rotate depending on occasion; ONE Purchase yields THREE munzees)
    • Stay Home
    • May Flowers

As a refresher, the point structure for Greeting Cards is as follows:

  • Open Edition
    • Deploy: 50
    • Capture: 40
    • CapOn: 25
  • Limited Edition
    • Deploy: 60
    • Capture: 50
    • CapOn: 30

Remember that these munzees will be archived 7 days after they are deployed, so make sure your intended recipient captures it before then!

For more information on the Greeting Cards, you can check out our Help Guide article.

Have a Magical Weekend with Mythological Mayhem!

To give the new Mythological Munzee Variants a warm welcome, we decided to make them the focus of this month’s ZEE-Dayz! Starting on 00:01 MHQ on Friday May 22, you will receive 2X the points on ALL activity on Leprechaun, Mermaid, Cyclops, and Nymph munzees — and of course, their variants are included in this as well! This bonus will last until 23:59 MHQ on Monday May 25!

We hope these bonuses add a little sparkle to both old and new Mythological Munzee friends! Remember that they can all land in Treehouse munzees if you’re unable to hunt them down in the wild, and some of them can also land in the newly-released Skyland munzee as well! Check the Help Guide for specifics!

Keep safe and Munzee on!

Cyclops & Nymph Variants Complete the Set!

If you love characters from fantasy novels, movies, and shows, these new Mythological Munzee Variants should be right up your alley! You can now upgrade both the Cyclops and Nymph Mythological Munzees into new variants!

In celebration of completing the Myth Variant set we are also now allowing players to own multiples of the same Mythological Munzees! This was something a number of you indicated you would be interested in during our survey earlier in the year, another fun option for those who are interested. You can learn more details further down the blog, but check out the POB Collection in the Freeze Tag Online Store HERE!

Much like AlternaMyths, the Mythological Munzee Variants are twists on the original Myth types that allow them to bounce to other types of munzees. These variants are only available to Myths that have been “Upgraded.*”

All four of our new variants will have the same point values:

  • Deployment: N/A
  • Capture: 200 Points
  • CapOn: 100 Points

Minotaur Cyclops

This half-bull, half-man creature is more beast than buddy! This variant of the Cyclops Mythological Munzee charges to the following:

Balor Cyclops

This Irish giant may only have one eye, but he’ll give Medusa a run for her money! This variant of the Cyclops Mythological Munzee stomps to the following:

Vampire Nymph

She may be vegetarian, but that doesn’t mean your neck is safe! This variant of the Nymph Mythological Munzee flies to the following:

Elf Nymph

She may be a feast for the eyes, but she’s as deadly as she is beautiful! This variant of the Nymph Mythological Munzee floats to the following:

Upgrading Your Myth

Once your Myth is upgraded with the Bouncer Upgrade Credit, you can convert it to a new type similar to how you would convert any other type of munzee. Remember that you can only convert a Myth Variant once, and after a Myth has been changed, it cannot go back. The Bouncer Upgrade Credit also allows for the opportunity to “nudge” your Myth to a new munzee up to three times a day in the MHQ 24-hour day after it has sat for three hours. Plus it gives you the opportunity to rename your Myth to something personal and creative!

Points for Myth Variants will remain the same. Myth Variants will also continue counting toward their specific Myth badges just like normal. The only thing that changes with an Upgrade is what it bounces to, as well as a new capture icon in the Specials list. For more info on Variants visit the Munzee Help GuideCOMING SOON: Myth Variant badges! Details will be made available when those launch at a later date!

NEW Ability to Purchase Multiples of the Same Myth

If you can’t choose between an original myth and its variants, you now have the option to purchase another (base level) myth so you can own the whole set! We’ll be restocking past myths periodically, but for now Cyclops, Nymph, Leprechaun, and Mermaid Myths are available for multi-purchase! These 4 myths will be available in the store through Tuesday morning, May 26th. You may purchase up to 2 within 365 days. So if your original purchases were years ago you are able to buy 2 currently. If you purchased one of these myths in November you can only purchase one additional myth at this time.

To be clear you will be buying an additional base Myth. If you want the other variants you will still need to upgrade. For example, you must purchase a Mermaid in order to upgrade to a variant, you can not directly buy a Melusine Mermaid. You are also able to just own multiple of the base level myth, you do not have to upgrade if you want multiple leprechauns.

Here’s one more early bit of information, this weekend will be double points for all activity on all of the myths and variants in this post! All the details will be released tomorrow but Cyclops, Nymphs, Mermaids, Leprechauns, and all their variants will be double points!

With the addition of the new Cyclops and Nymphs, the set of Myth Variants is complete! Now that you can begin purchasing multiple Myths you can work toward completing the entire collection. Which variant will you be upgrading to today? Let us know on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

Celebrate the Heroes of Today With These Soaring Specials!

With both National Teacher’s Day AND National Nurse’s Day falling on the first week of May (not to mention Mother’s Day the week after!) we thought it would be a great idea to have our next specials honor essential workers! Their work makes it possible for many of us to function while staying safe at home, putting themselves at risk. Since “essential worker” sounds a bit bland, we decided to call them Hometown Heroes instead!

The first of our Hometown Heroes specials have just launched, at 12:00 MHQ time on May 18. The first icon is the one on the far left, Stay Safe. The quantities of masks will increase at random times, once launched, until they leave the map at 23:59 MHQ time on June 7! The hero masks will bounce every 6 hours or when capped. The heroes themselves will bounce around every 4 hours or when capped. The Stay Safe icon will bounce every 2 hours or when capped.

Each of the 5 mask icons correspond to a different hero! Will you be able to collect them all?

Points

  • Capture: 200 points for each mask, 150 points for the Stay Safe icon, 100 points for each hero.
  • CapOn: 50 points for ALL Hometown Hero bouncers

The heroes will bounce to all virtual colors. The mask icons will bounce to amethyst, sapphire, air mystery, citrine, onyx, electric mystery, and Skyland. The Stay Safe icon will only bounce to the white virtual.
ALL Hometown Hero specials will be attracted to Virtual Magnets, available from the Freeze Tag Online Store.
You can access the Hometown Hero specials under the “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Specials” filters.
These virtual specials are not blastable.

Badges

There is also a line featuring 5 new badges to earn by capturing some of the different types of specials. They are not all available at the time of launch but will be added throughout the first week. We’re revealing one of these badges below:

The Super Stamper!- Capture at least one Delivery Mask special.

Can you collect all 5 badges? Cap as many of these specials as you can to set yourself up for success!

NEW Funfinity Stone + A Destination to Go With It!

After some crazy weather patterns, we’re looking forward to a lovely, tame Spring around MHQ. But even if it’s not springtime in your area, you can still take in the sights of beautiful Munzee Gardens (like the April Gardens of the Month!). You may even spot our newest Funfinity Stone in the wild!

Joining the Funfinity Stones family, please welcome the Smaragd (we can’t pronounce it either) Pouch Creature! Now that more than half of the Funfinity Stones have been activated, a new Destination has been unlocked as well.

If you enjoy hanging out at a Treehouse, get ready to pack your bags for Skyland!

Smaragd is available NOW in the Freeze Tag Online Store HERE. Be sure to shop fast, because these Funfinity Stones will leave the store at 15:00 MHQ on Monday, May 18! Like the other Funfinity Stones, players can purchase a Smaragd for $10. No upgrade ability is available. Topaas and Oniks will also be available during this time. Like other virtual POBs Smaragd will land in the Skyland (more on that later) which is available for purchase HERE! NOTE: Skyland’s deploy process is the same as other virtual Destination munzees, which you can read about HERE. Note that the distance requirement for Skyland is slightly different.

Smaragd Details

Smaragd joins the current line of Pouch Creatures as a Player Owned Bouncer (POB) that will bounce to Green Virtuals, Air Mystery, Emerald, and Skyland Munzees every 6 hours or when capped.

It will have the same point values as the other Funfinity Stones:

  • Deploy: 250
  • Capture: 200 Points
  • CapOn: 250 Points
  • CapOn (Host Owner): 200 points

Smaragd will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture Smaragd on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Smaragd visits you. It will be attracted to Virtual Magnets depending on the landing pad type. You can access Smaragd under the “Only Expiring Specials” and “Only Pouch Creatures” filters.

New Badge!

Deploying a Smaragd will earn you the following badge:

Smaragd Funfinity Stone – Deploy Smaragd Pouch Creature.

Additionally, any Smaragd captures will help you progress in both the Unique Funfinity Stone Capture badge line and the Pouch Creature Capture badge line.

If you want to brush up on any Pouch Creature knowledge, be sure to check out our Help Guide!

Skyland Munzee

Skyland is a virtual Destination that allows up to 6 virtual POBs to land on it. This all new munzee fits into the Destination line, but it also contains the ability to be captured once per player per 24 hour MHQ day just like Places! That’s right, Skyland means plenty of capping opportunities and works like a “virtual Treehouse”.

Points:

  • Deploy: 100 points
  • Cap: 10 points + points for whatever POBs are in the Skyland at the time of capture.
  • CapOn: 25 points

The deploy circle for Skyland will be 4,000 feet (1219.2 m) from the nearest Skyland, 500 feet from Vacation Condos and Virtual Resorts, and all other normal 50/150 feet proximity rules apply on the virtual layer. Capture radius is 1000 feet. Updated 3 hours post launch.

To access the Skyland Munzee, turn on your Virtual filter and find it under “Destinations”. Depending on the munzees the Skyland is hosting, it can also be visible with the following Premium filters: “All Expiring Specials,” “All Mythologicals,” and “All Pouch Creatures.”

Please note the following special information about the Skyland Munzee:

  • The Skyland Icon will change to show the number of POBs hanging out. Players will see the base icon above for 0, but then a 1-6 as more POBs stop by.
  • This munzee can be capped once daily regardless of the number of POBs hanging out. New POB landings do NOT refresh the capture setting.
  • A Skyland will attract up to 6 POBs over time, but you can use a Virtual Magnet to draw a total of 6 POBs much quicker.
  • Only virtual Myths, their Variants, and other virtual POBs should land on a Skyland.
  • The Regular POB timer is still in effect. If a POB times out, it leaves the Skyland and an open spot becomes available for others to join.

Why use a Skyland? This extra special munzee has the following awesome advantages:

  • Quick and high points
  • Easy access to multiple POB caps at once
  • The ability to share the love with other POB owners
  • Achieve POB Clan Wars requirements quicker

Badges

With the introduction of Skyland comes a new badge line based on Treehouse and Skyland points! NOTE: These points do NOT include the POBs captured on the munzee. These badges will be retroactive, so any points you’ve earned from capping Treehouses will count toward these badges.

You can see the first of this badge line below!

Magic Jelly Beans- Earn 100 Total Points from Treehouse and Skyland combined.

Skyland will also count toward the overall Destination captures badge line the first time you cap it. That means daily caps will not count toward badges, only the first time you cap it.

You are only able to purchase 1 Skyland every 14 days per player account. For more information about Skyland, how to deploy it, and exactly what types will land on it, check out our Help Guide article! By the way we also updated what lands on Treehouses too!

The Nostalgia is Strong With These 20/20 Vision Munzees!

Missing the great outdoors? Why not bring the great outdoors to you? If you are able to cap physical munzees safely and legally, keep an eye out for these rare game pieces! Our ninth 20/20 Vision Munzee will surround your peepers with lush, beautiful environments! These sturdy slide viewers were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Do you still have one of these lying around in your garage?

Only five Viewfinders will be deployed, and they will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Physical Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing the Viewfinder will add this flashy Stereoscopic Specs badge to your collection! Remember, down the line we’ll be putting out an overall capture line, so don’t forget to check back for updates!

According to the National Toy Hall of Fame, the View-Master stereoscope was first released in 1939! Quite a surprising fact, considering most people born before the year 2000 consider it a relic of their childhood — turns out it’s been around since grandparents were children! Which slides did you own? We can clearly remember viewing landscapes from Disney’s The Lion King — using your imagination, you could insert yourself into scenes with Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa!

You’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. More unique 20/20 Vision specials will launch throughout the year so keep on the lookout — you won’t want to miss out on these bouncy bifocals!

New Places Munzees to Grow the Map With!

It’s been a while since we last introduced new Places Munzee types! While it may be tough to go anywhere at the moment, we hope this will help those of you who live near these types of places, especially those that participate in Clan Wars! The new Places Munzees were added to the Freeze Tag store as of 12:00 MHQ today. Shop them HERE! They are limited to one per account per 30 days, like the other Places.

NEW Places Details

Joining the ever-growing roster of Places are the Bank, Beach, Campground, and Golf munzees. You may be wondering — would a mini golf or “Top Golf” type location be eligible for a Golf Places munzee? The answer is yes! We got the ideas for these types from you, the players, so we’re confident they’ll be a welcome addition to the game. As with other Places munzees, these can be captured daily! They will also contribute progress towards the Places Capture badge line and the Places Streak badge line.

Capture Radius: 1,000 feet, not blastable

Deploy: 40 points

Capture: 20 points

CapOn: 10 points

To access these munzees, turn on your “Virtual – Places” filters. For more information on how to deploy a Places munzee, you can check out our Help Guide article. This document will be updated with our guidelines should any changes occur. Please note that these new places should be easily identifiable from Google Maps.

Deploy Guidelines:

Here is a breakdown of guidelines for each of the new Places types. Remember a Places Munzee has to have its location approved for deployment, so please be sure to read through these guidelines carefully. It is also very helpful for you to update the name and notes of the Munzee so our reviewers can verify it quickly to get it deployed for you.

Bank: Bank Places Munzees can be deployed at official bank buildings around the world. These will not include just an ATM, or “cash point” but an actual bank. The bank may be inside another business but must be a full service bank.

Beach: Beach Places Munzees can be deployed at many types of beaches around the world. They may be found at lakes, oceans, rivers, and many other bodies of water. “Beaches” at amusement parks, neighborhood pools and small playgrounds will not be accepted. “Real” beaches at “real” bodies of water are the intended locations.

Campground: Campground Places Munzees can be deployed at officially designated campgrounds around the world. These may include campgrounds that are a place of business but may also include free campgrounds.

Golf: Golf Places Munzees can be deployed at official recreation places used for golfing around the world. This type will include miniature golf, golf courses, and even some businesses providing indoor golf services.

Places Munzees are very unique due to the much larger cap radius (as compared with other munzee types) and aforementioned daily capture ability. Maybe you want to follow the advice in last month’s Munzee Mistakes post and trade Places munzees with other players to make the most of your deploys?!?

Munzee on!
