Player of the Week: Maria Dahlin (Questing4)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Maria Dahlin (Questing4).

Who are you?

Maria Dahlin AKA Questing4. Currently a member of the Bushrangers clan.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Brisbane sub-tropical Queensland. I am married with 2 kids and 2 Staffordshire bull terriers. The dogs come munzeeing with me, the kids rarely, and my husband never, but he will wait in the car while I go hunting!!!

How long have you played Munzee?
I started in May 2012 (missed out on the Early Bird badge) but didn’t really get serious until July 2013. I was trying to juggle finding plastic boxes at the same time and ended up deciding I liked munzeeing so much more.

How did you find Munzee?
My sister Helen (AusTrackers) and her husband Gary (Auscapee). Thanks, Helen, for another obsession!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
EVERYTHING – The people that you meet, the different types of munzees, events, the fact that you can play the game any way you like — you can have an easy going level one clan or a hard hitting level 5 clan. My sisters, AusTrackers and CrazyLadyLisa, live in Perth, so we make a point of an annual get together at another capital city in Australia and munzee together. When you all have a common interest, it makes for lively discussions! We then get to see other areas of the country, and you talk to each other so much more walking around the streets with no distractions from TV and electronic devices. LOL.

What is on your wish list?
I would love a physical leaderboard as well as an overall leaderboard. Other than that, I just hope MHQ keeps on mixing things up. How they keep coming up with ideas is amazing. I also want to go to Europe. Man, don’t they have some virtuals over there.

Tell us about yourself!
Iam 50 (yuck) but did go to Texas to meet the MHQ staff as a present to myself on my 50th birthday. Thanks to CLL for doing the driving. They drive on the wrong side of the road other there. I have been married for 23 years and have 2 amazing children, Anna (21) and John (18), and a long suffering husband. I have worked for the same company since I was 15, and I will probably die at my desk.

Other hobbies include:
There are not enough hours in the day for other hobbies. I do try to squeeze in genealogy occasionally (another thing AusTrackers got me addicted to).

Any last words?
I am surprised and feel very privileged at the nomination. We have a small Munzee community in Brisbane, and they are all wonderful people. I am sure they think I stalk them. I would like to thank whoever nominated me.

Questing4 also included some socials, so cap away!

Issues with Duplicate Coin Codes

We have discovered that there was an issue during the production of the MVM and Leprechaun Coinz. The codes for the MVM Coinz were duplicated on the Leprechaun Coinz. We are working with our supplier to have replacements with all new codes made. Mystery Pin, Dragon, Unicorn, Yeti, and Places Coinz seemingly were not affected in the mixup.

If you have an activated MVM coin, no action needs to be taken. If you have an MVM coin that says it is already linked to another account, please contact support@munzee.com, and we will help resolve that issue.

If you have a Leprechaun coin, you will receive an email regarding a replacement for your coin. Please DO NOT activate these coins if you haven’t already. If you already have, we will assist with correcting those coins.

We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience. We take full responsibility for this issue and want to correct it as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Thank you.

Coinz Badges Are Here!

The introduction of Coinz in October of last year and their expansion in January added a whole new level to the Munzee game. This part will continue to grow and with that comes new badges! Starting tomorrow (February 3rd), two lines of badges for Coinz will begin awarding: Coins Discovered and Munzees Visited.

Coins Discovered

The Coins Discovered line of badges will include World 1-1, World 1-2, and World 1-3 for discovering 10, 100, and 500 coins, respectively.

Munzees Visited

The Munzee Visited line of badges will include The Claw, Skee Ball, and Munzee Arcade for visiting 100, 500, and 1000 munzees with a coin, respectively. (Note: These require discoveries made with a single coin and do not compound, e.g. If you have 43 visits with a Longsword coin and 57 visits with a Greenie coin, you DO NOT earn the badge.)

These badges will be found under the Coinz category. The Munzees Visited line WILL NOT show on the badges page until earned. The Coins Discovered line will appear on the badge page with the following null image until earned:

We hope you enjoy these new badges! Keep an eye out for more information about new Coinz coming soon!

Munzee on!

Featured Munzee Toolkit: Shane Phillips (thethunderbirds)

One of the best parts about Munzee is that you can play how you want. Everyone goes about playing a bit differently, and that leads to some very creative and innovative uses of objects. From containers to bags to maintenance, we always encounter something new when we meet players. We want to showcase your Munzee Toolkits to see how you play the game and possibly even inspire other players who may need help. This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from Shane Phillips (thethunderbirds).

Username
I’m Shane Phillips (thethunderbirds) from Highland Village, Texas.

What’s in your Munzee Toolkit?
I work from home, so I only do serious Munzeeing on the weekends. Being a part of the L5 clan “Ghostbusters”, I need to get out most weekends to meet my commitment.

My Munzee toolkit is very straightforward. A sling pack to carry everything. Honestly, it is in the car most of the time. The bag contains a light waterproof jacket (rolled up), first aid kit, flashlight/stylus, and an umbrella. The stylus helps if I am doing a lot of virtual capping, and the flashlight helps with the forward facing camera under benches.

My Munzee kit has all the physical munzees from the monthly MunzPak. The kit is a small fishing tackle box. There was a problem with munzees sliding around between compartments, so my wife glued some vinyl shelf liner to the lid, and that keeps them in their proper place.

Finally, power. I have 2 battery phone cases and a 7W foldable solar panel. I usually leave the solar panel on the dash of the car while I am out. It charges my extra case or power pack. For long walks, I can hang it on the backpack to charge while walking.

I listen to A LOT of audio books. I am always reading while out. I use Bluetooth headphones because I used to catch the headphone cable when capping. I have 2 sets of headphones as they only last 4 hours on a charge. I also have a small power pack (white) so I can always have one set charged.

If you have a Munzee Toolkit that you’d like to show off, you can email us at iloveyou@munzee.com with the subject “Munzee Toolkit”. Make sure to include:

  • Your username and where you are from.
  • A few high quality photos.
  • A list of what each item is and how you use it.
  • What made you decide to use those items.
  • Any other relevant details.

We want to see your creativity and learn how you play. Show us what you’ve got!

New Places Munzees and a Places Munzee Coin

We’d like to thank everyone who submitted recommendations for new Places Munzees. We had almost 3,000 submissions in less than two days for stadiums and airports all over the world. The team sorted through them, and we will be adding over 300 more locations tomorrow, January 31st, at 15:00 MHQ time.

To celebrate these new Places Munzees, we will also be releasing a limited number of Places Munzee Coinz.

The Places Munzee Coinz can be set to track all Places Munzees (Stadiums, Airports, and future Places) that you capture. These will be available in the Munzee Online Store tomorrow at 15:00 MHQ time, and there is a limit of 1 per account.

We hope you enjoy the new Places Munzees and the Places Munzee Coin!

Player of the Week: David Few (Hogglespike)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is David Few (Hogglespike).

Who are you?

My name is David Few, known as “Hogglespike”. I am a member of the clan “Mario the Great”.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Andover, Hampshire in the UK with my wife, son, and German Shepherd.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing on July 17, 2015.

How did you find Munzee?
Some friends mentioned it to us, and my son (“darrenjones”) and I decided to gie it a try. The rest is history!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Attending events, meeting other Munzee players, and obtaining the badges and specials. I have just earned my Millionaire Club badge. Darren and I enjoy being in our clan, and we all support each other.

What is on your wish list?
To attend more events and to continue the growth of the map in Andover. There were no munzees here when we joined, and Darren and I have built it up quite considerably. People are gradually coming here, and with their help, hopefully the area will fill up.

Tell us about yourself!
I am 68, married with a daughter, son, son-in-law, and one much loved four-year-old grandson. I am semi-retired. Having worked in an office for many years, I am enjoying being a part time delivery driver which also enables me to pick up off munzees here and there. My grandson loves pointing out where the munzees are located.

Other hobbies include:
Walking our dog in the New Forest area where we have a holiday home, and luckily, there are quite a few Munzee players in the area. We also love coastal path walking in Cornwall where we can meet up with some other clan members. I also enjoy photography and spending time with my grandson.

Any last words?
I am hoping to grow the map in Andover even more, and any deploys would be more than welcome!

Groundhog Day 2017 Special

Every country has it’s own customs and traditions. For the United States and Canada, one of those happens to be letting a groundhog predict our seasons… We’re going to celebrate this with a Munzee special!

Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2nd. Traditionally, if a groundhog leaves its burrow when it is cloudy, spring will arrive early (before the vernal equinox). If it is a sunny day, the groundhog will see it’s shadow and return to its burrow. This foreshadows six more weeks of winter. While the accuracy of this tradition is often up for debate, it’s fun speculate nonetheless. This year, we’d like to share the fun with everyone!

Beginning tomorrow, January 27th, at 00:01 MHQ time, 2017 Groundhog icons will appear on the map. These will bounce on geenies, Ice Mystery Munzees, and Shamrocks every 6 hours or when capped. These icons will remain on the map until February 2nd at 23:59 MHQ time.

Points
For capturing a Groundhog icon, you will earn 22 points. The owner of the host munzee will earn 6 points.

Badges
There are THREE badges that can be earned during this special. The badge you earn depends on what type of munzee the host is:

  • Greenie: If you capture a Groundhog icon on a greenie, you will earn the Groundhog Day badge.
  • Ice Mystery Munzee: If you capture a Groundhog icon on an Ice Mystery Munzee, you will earn the Winter badge. (Note: Capture of an Ice Mystery Munzee will still send out scatters.)
  • Shamrock: If you capture a Groundhog icon on a Shamrock Munzee, you will earn the Spring badge.

We hope you enjoy this special!

Munzee on!
