Much like our game pieces, Munzee players come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes even all species? Whether you’re short or tall, or a marsupial, Munzee is the game for you. This week’s Player of the Week is Petr Stary AKA Czechroo and although he may not be an actual Kangaroo, his ability to bounce around the Munzee map has impressed MHQ. Read on to learn more about this Czech born player who currently calls Australia home!
Who are you?
My name is Petr Stary, AKA Czechroo. “Czech” is short for my home country “the Czech Republic” and “roo” is short for kangaroo.
Where in the world do you live?
I am originally from a picturesque tiny town Úštěk in the northern part of the Czech Republic, but I have been living in Sydney, Australia for almost 10 years.
How long have you played Munzee?
I signed up for an account and capped my first munzee in January 2012, but knew about Munzee 4 month before that. It took me a while to register as I was busy with my university studies. Four months later in May 2012, I went premium.
How did you find Munzee?
To be honest I do not really remember, but I think I discovered Munzee while googling some caching relating stuff.
What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I enjoy the opportunity to get outside and discover new places while riding and sharing my scooter with other Munzers (BlueBearyk). I also enjoy Munzeeing because I can place munzees pretty much anywhere and they do not need to be reviewed.
What is on your wish list?
There are quite a few things on my wish list.
1. Clusters on STATzee – probably the most asked wish.
2. An alternative scanner button on the map in the app – I change scanners quite often. It involves 6 steps to change it if one is on the main screen. If one is in a hurry or there are muggles around a quick access to this feature would appreciate many Munzers.
3. I would like to see my own munzees that are in maintenance mode on the map in the app.
4. Proximity circles on/off in the Android app like the iOS app has.
5. A rover filter in the app and notifications so I know that someone picks it up, drops it off, or to be notified when my rover meets it goal.
6. To test scan NFC tags in the app.
Tell us about yourself!
I’m in my mid 30’s, BMI 21 🙂 and quite tall – 193 cm (6ft 4). That’s why are some of my early munzees deployed very high and they are not “kid friendly” and sometimes even adults cannot reach them. Lesson learned and now are most of my munzees deployed down low, waist and shoulder high. I moved to Sydney in 2005 to study English, but decided to stay longer and study more. I finished my Bachelor Degree in Information Technology (Networking, Systems Administration) in 2012. Unfortunately I have had no luck finding sponsorship which would help me to get permanent residency in Australia. Beside munzeeing I spend a lot of time outside enjoying the sun and Australian flora and fauna because it differs a lot from what you can experience in Central Europe. If you ever come to Sydney you can meet me in Kirribilli or Milson’s Point where the diamond mine is.
Other hobbies include?
Apart from munzeeing I occasionally play Ingress and search for geocaches. I also like traveling and visiting different places. When the weather is stunning I enjoy photographing.

Munzee has become so much more than a scavenger hunt. It’s become a collection race, a reason to get outside and each month it even becomes war. For those that participate in Clan Wars, you devote hours and days to capping, deploying and doing whatever else CoachV demands. Munzee’s third Birthday this July was no different and after a long month of activity the Plankers Clan came out on top. A clan is only as good as their leader though, so read on to learn a bit about Louise Gibson (geoibsons) who helped lead her clan to victory.
Who are you?
I am geoibsons, real name Louise Gibson. A 36 year old Londoner, I’m married and Mummy to 2 little boys.
Where in the world do you live?
I live in a town called Marlow, west of London, England where I moved from last year. If you look at the Munzee Map I think it’s pretty obvious a Munzer lives there!
How long have you played Munzee?
I discovered Munzee when it was a 2 month old baby – my account is about 1080 days old. I managed to keep the obsession at bay until the Clan Wars though. My best Munzee chum Rodz asked me to be a member of the London Clan and that was it. I was in. All his Munzees started getting capped by a nutcase wielding a baby in a buggy, this proved handy for a bit of extra height at times (standing on the buggy or lifting the baby and asking him to grab stuff, not standing on the baby obvs). Unfortunately we struggled to keep the London Clan going due to lack of local Munzers, so we went nuts for a couple of months, then sailed off as Pirates for another couple of months. A few of us then jumped ship to plan some world domination. We were briefly another chiming clan, but then became a bunch of Plankers. Turned out we were good at Planking, we won the war didn’t we?! I’d like to give a big shout out to my fellow Plankers!
How did you find Munzee?
I heard about it through my caching chums. The first Munzee I found was called Dorset’s First, I was with my Uncle Griff and it was pretty much the only one on the South Coast of England, which is now saturated! I’m from a serious Munzee family, we pretty much all do it! My parents (Geogarley), my Aunts and Uncles (Georiffles and Baconybits), my sister (geosian) and my cousins (DarthXrisFaerieDee). Family parties are awesome, deploy a munzee and boom, instant caps! My non Munzeeing brother thinks I’m a massive douche bag and I test my husband’s patience fairly regularly though!
What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
Munzee taps into my competitive and geeky side. I like getting outdoors, finding treasure and I feel like I’m a member of a secret club haha. I love the social side that has developed over the last year or so too since I’ve started hosting events in London and love the banter on Facebook. It does sometimes bring out the worst in me though… I think POTW might also stand for Pest Of The Week. I must admit to emailing the whole list of Cologne Event attendees to see if any who didn’t have a clan wanted to join my world domination clan! I also push my virtual field spreadsheets on anyone who’ll listen. It’s worth it though, London is a serious hot spot now and I love my other baby, the virtual Union Jack arrow pointing down at Regent’s Park, Rodz helped me create it and it looks awesome. Relentless doesn’t cover it either – even with over a 300k lead on Cologne with less than 12 hours to go til the end of the clan war I went down to the South Coast of England and stayed up all night, poised to cap to ensure GOLD!
What is on your wish list?
Well I wish every month was as amazing at July 2014! The European Event in Cologne was fantastic. I doubled my score and got over 200k for the Plankers! I met wonderful players and loved hanging out with Rob and Daniel from MHQ. Very nice, very heiß.
I’d like the ability to make in-app purchases (even if you have to pre-load credit or something), I’d like FitBit badges, awards for Clan Winners – especially 3rd Birthday Clan Winners! Once my POTW Munzee Store discount and unlimited blast caps kicks in I’ll be a happy girl haha. I also wish there were more London players.
Tell us about yourself!
So as I’ve said, I’m competitive, a bit geeky and social. I love my family and my friends. I’m as happy drinking cocktails with the girls as I am sinking 10 beers with the boys. I’m a messer, a selfie poser and I’m quite girly. I love shopping, shoes, bags and nail polish, but I’m no easy touch, I like going out on my bike and the Mum’s race at Sports Day very, very seriously hahaha.
Other hobbies include;
I’m pretty sporty. I am into road cycling in a big way. I took it up last year after constant injuries from marathon running. Turns out I’m ok at it. I’m proud to hold 6 Queen of the Mountain titles from various hills around UK and I’m competing in RideLondon next weekend, which is a 100 mile race along the London 2012 Olympic Road Race route. I also love snowboarding. I think Chamonix in France is my spiritual home. The mountains are beautiful and La Vallée Blanche is the most exhilarating day you’ll ever have on a snowboard. Anyway, I’ve cycled 80 miles today, I need some chocolate and a glass or 2 of red wine….Thank you so much to those who nominated me and thank you MHQ for recognizing me. What makes Munzee stand out among the sea of smartphone apps is its close ties to healthy activity. While the Munzee community is deeply devoted to ever-evolving technology, we also encourage our players to continue to get out into the world and adventure. Whether it’s the urban landscapes or countryside, Munzee takes its players all over. Nathan Toliver (SemiPaw) is this week’s Player of the Week and his love of the wilderness is fueled even more by his love of finding greenies.
Who are you?
My name is Nathan Toliver and my munzee handle is Semipaw.
Where in the world do you live?
I live in the heart of the Ozarks smack dab in the middle of the Midwest (Ozark, Missouri, USA).
How long have you played Munzee?
I began munzeeing in February of 2014.
What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I’ve always enjoyed getting outside and exploring, especially hiking on trails and getting out into the woods. We have plenty of trails here in the Ozarks region of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas and when I looked at the map and saw a bunch of munzees lining many of our trails, it gave me one more reason to get outdoors and go for a hike. Although I enjoy all munzees, I really like the ones that are placed out on the trails and require a little effort to cap. My favorites are the lonely greenies that have been deployed years ago and have gotten very few (if any) visitors. I find it exciting to find something that had been hanging (or sticking) quietly for so long without being found. There are so many lonely little greenies hanging out here in the Ozarks, it will probably take me years to cap them all. But that’s my goal.
I also really enjoy the clan wars. I love having goals each month to work toward. I find it a lot of fun to track me and my clanmates progress each month as we work toward a common goal. Speaking of clans, I must give a shout out to the Ozark Power Players clan. We’ve got a great clan, have a lot of fun, and shoot for chuck (or now super-chuck when we can) every month. It’s a great group of people who really try to help each other every month.
What is on your wish list?
As one can imagine, I really enjoyed the triple points day on greenies that occurred in July. I spent almost the whole day out in the hot July sun deploying and capping greenies that day. I would love to see more days like that. Even a double point day would be appreciated. I also would love to see greenie captures incorporated more into the clan wars, to get more people out capping them.
Tell us about yourself…
I’ve lived in the Ozarks my whole life. Whenever I’m not munzeeing, I enjoy getting outdoors and hiking (which now usually incorporates munzeeing). My wife and I have been married for almost 14 years, and we have eight children that keep us busy. I am passionate about nature and preserving natural areas for future generations. I love the fact that munzees can lead me to a place I have yet to explore, and allows me to take others to such places.

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. Over the next few weeks we’ll be showcasing members of Team Munzee so our players can get to know us a bit better. So each Munday (see what we did there?) check in to see a new member of Team Munzee and you decide if you trust the game in our hands. Where are you from?
I was born and raised in a small village in Thuringia, Germany. I left there in 2007 and moved to Chemnitz, Saxony where I went to university studying computer science until last year. It’s a lovely countryside around here at the edge of the Ore Mountains and even the Czech boarder is nearby, so I decided to stay for a few more years.
Tell us about yourself:
As I said, I finished university last year and so I had to sort things while getting from studying over to real work a.k.a. getting things done. I spend most of the day in front of two computer monitors. Yes, maybe that comes with my job but it’s also fun and hobby and feels like I’m doing the right thing. Beside that I try to be outside enjoying the sun and nature every minute I can get. I really need to move around after sitting at the desk for hours. Enjoying outdoors alone is great, but sure it’s much more fun to do it with friends and people you like. This is where Munzee comes in 😉
How long have you worked for Munzee?
I’ve been on the Munzee ship since fall 2013, but I did some minor tasks for them before officially coming on.
How did you find Munzee?
Hah, I really didn’t find Munzee as a company in the first place, I found it as a game. Coming from that other geo-location game, I read about Munzee in a blog post and I decided to get an account (that was 1,051 days ago) and have a look at the map. There was only one Munzee deployed in the whole state! I got some friends hooked and the game started to grow (very slowly) in our area. In order to 
share thoughts and information about the game with other players from Germany, I set up the German Munzee forums and started coding up some tools that helped me and others playing the game. For that I got into contact with Scott and this is maybe how Munzee find me and gave me the ability to find Munzee as a company. I’m so glad to be here and work in such an awesome team!
What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
That’s easy! What I like most about it is being outside and being on the move. Also the game gets me in contact with people from around the world and on weekend Munzee trips it shows me great new places. There is an active development going on and every week is exciting, from the game and from the job point of view.
What are some of your other hobbies?
Other hobbies? Are you kidding? Hah, there are. Two years ago I bought a new bike and so I cycling for about an hour a day if the weather is good. Okay, maybe I have to admit that most of the times Munzee is included even if I’m going by bike. The other hobby is electronics. So soldering is no problem for me, in terms of hobby projects like doing fun things with the Arduino platform or other micro controllers. And well, there is even reading. Unfortunately I don’t read as much as I want, but I bought a kindle in March and things are getting better, hah.
Famous last words?
No time for being famous. I have to get out and score some points!

The Texas heat may be sweltering, but Team Munzee has caught the cold! This morning at the Munzee Marketplace Team Munzee took part in the ever growing ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and we’re happy to announce we’re taking it a step further. Based on our previous charity fundraisers (See: 
Team Munzee is proud of the impact our players can make and we look forward to all the good we can do.
After a bit of a low key third day of the birthday month yesterday, Munzee is happy to announce a few things today. We said to expect the unexpected right? Players will now have the ability to deploy Mystery Virtual Munzees from within the app. In addition to using a computer to deploy the MVMs, you’ll be able to do it all from your phone, on location. Hopefully this will make the process a bit easier on players. But what are you going to deploy to test this new addition to Munzee?
There has also been another influx of piñatas, so there’s no excuse not to get the mint, drop and lollipop before they disappear at the end of the birthday month. If there still aren’t any in your area, worry not. I’m sure CoachV will decide to throw a few more out by month’s end.
