Keep Cool with August 2020’s Resolution!

Around this time of year in the US, we usually can’t wait until Fall, as scorching temperatures have us wishing for cooler days. Unfortunately, it’s not quite time for Fall yet. But we can make things a bit more comfortable while exercising by preparing a comfortable environment! As we announced in our January Resolutions blog, we will be launching monthly Capture Streak Badges centered on a year of being active. Each month’s badge will be dedicated to practicing a different exercise. Similar to how our Super Streak badges operate, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. This month’s badge may be tricky to get, but we believe in you!

Each month’s badge will be themed around the particular resolution goal. For August we are featuring Aquatics! Aquatic exercises are often part of physical therapy programs for injured athletes, and are also a good choice for the elderly, as the water can greatly reduce the impact of exercises normally performed out of the water. According to this article from the American Sports College of Medicine, another benefit to aquatic exercise is that coaches or trainers can more easily see problems with a person’s movements — and thus determine if there are weaknesses that need to be addressed — by having that person perform a movement pattern in the water. This is likely due to the water forcing the body to move a much slower rate.

What are some great aquatic exercises to try?

The same article by the ACSM extols the value of aquatic exercise for ALL, not just the injured and elderly, so it’s worth it to give Aquatics a try! If you’re not sure where to start, here are our favorite suggestions from that article:

  • Punch – “For the upper cut, the hand starts from behind the hip and punches to the surface of the water with a torso rotation; the straight shot has the hand begin just beside your chest and drives directly out in front of you, under the water.”
  • High Knee – “Like playing hacky sack under water; knees driving up towards your chest, legs moving hard down towards the bottom of the pool and slightly below/behind you.”
  • Cross Country – “Move your legs in long strides like running, yet straighter but without locking your knees (this increases your hip ROM) with an opposite arm to leg motion.”

We think you could even put these together into a routine that feels like a fight scene from an action movie in a pool! What other exercises would be fun to do in the water? We’re sure there’s more than just ballet and volleyball!

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

** MUNZEE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY EXERCISE-RELATED INJURIES

Camp Competition Week 1

Earlier this week we announced that weekly prizes would be awarded based on points within the week. We thought this would help motivate players on all 4 teams, as every team will be starting from scratch each week and have the same opportunity to earn the weekly prize!

However, keep in mind that the grand prize at the end of the competition will take the entire competition period into account, so keep giving your all until the end — you never know if another team will launch a surprise attack! If you need a refresher on the rules, check our original post HERE! And remember rewards are only given to active campers each week, so keep playing even if you don’t see balloons or flags!

Now that we’ve got all of that out the way, it’s time to announce the results for the past week! Congratulations to Camp FrEEZ for starting the competition off strong!!!

As for the other Camps, don’t feel discouraged — this is the start of a new week after all! You can give Camp FrEEZ a run for its money as the weekly prizes do not directly give them an advantage in the competition — though they are certainly very nice in regular Munzee gameplay!

Combat Cabin Fever by Capturing Competing Camp Specials!

Whether or not you’re able to attend a Camp Munzee event near you, we want everyone to join in on the fun for our 9th Birthday! Get ready for some friendly competition as we pit our players against each other in Water Wars and Capture Zee Flag with Competing Camp specials!

Camp Competition

We’ve divided up active players randomly into 4 “Camps” to compete for prizes by capturing Competing Camp specials!

Will you wander into the wilderness with Camp Cap-A-Lot?

Perhaps you’re building pillow forts at home with Camp QRantine!

If it’s a bit chillier on your side of the world maybe you’re with Camp FrEEZ!

Or maybe you’re ready for interstellar exploration with Camp KenneZEE?

It’s up to you to lead your camp towards victory! This competition will be based on your camp’s overall Water Balloon and Flag bouncer captures. You can find out more about these specials below.

There will be prizes at stake each week, with the largest prizes awarded at the final check-in. Active players in all camps will receive a prize each week, but, as you may expect, the best prize will go to players in the 1st Place camp.

We don’t want to spoil all the prizes just yet, but we’re excited to announce that the winning camp overall will get, among other prizes, double points on certain Myth captures for a whole month!

The weekly winnings check-in schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, July 16th at 12:00 MHQ
  • Thursday, July 23rd at 12:00 MHQ
  • Thursday, July 30th at 12:00 MHQ
  • Tuesday, August 11th at 12:00 MHQ — Final Award ceremony!

We’ll post on social media about the results each week, but to aid you in tracking your team’s progress we’ve partnered with CuppaZee to develop a leaderboard special for this event! You can check it out HERE!

Water Wars and Capture Zee Flag

Competing Camp specials are broken down into two different types of bouncers: Water Balloons and Camp Flags. Both types of specials are now live on the map for everyone and will remain available until August 9 at 23:59 MHQ. You can use the “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters to more easily view them on the map. There are quite a few different specials, so check out a breakdown of each below!

Water Balloons

There will be 1,596 Water Balloon Specials available for capture on the map — that breaks down to 399 of each type. These are attracted to Virtual Magnets. None of these specials are blastable.

For the Camp Competition leaderboard each Water Balloon capture will count as 1 point. Please note that this is different than the actual capture points a player will earn. This secondary point structure is just for tallying the Camp leaderboard.

Landing Pads:

  • All Virtual Colors

Bounce Time:

  • every 4 hours

Points:

  • Capture: 99
  • CapOn: 19

Camp Flags

In addition to the Water Balloons there will also be four rare Camp Flag Specials bouncing around the map! There will be a total of 36 Camp Flag Specials available for capture — that breaks down to 9 of each type. More Camp Flags may be crafted as Camp Directors see fit! These are attracted to both Physical or Virtual Magnets on their respective landing pads. These are officially tPOBs on the Munzee Camp account and are not blastable.

Since these are more rare each Camp Flag capture will count as 5 points on the Camp Competition leaderboard. As stated above please note that this is different than the actual capture points a player will earn. This secondary point structure is just for tallying the Camp leaderboard.

Landing Pads:

Bounce Times:

  • every 2 hours

Points:

  • Capture: 199
  • CapOn: 19

Badges

There are three lines of badges related to Competing Camp specials.

The first line is based on the Camp you’ve been assigned to — think of it as a Membership Badge! These badges feature a shirt with your camp’s logo so wear it with pride!

The second line is based on overall Water Balloon captures. These badges will give you some high-utility upgrades to your watery weapons. You can see the first badge in this line below:

Little Water Pistol – Capture at least one Water Balloon special of any type.

The third line of badges is based on capping unique Camp Flags. There will be one badge featuring the hidden home base for each camp. Make sure to cap at least one of each flag so you can be the king or queen of all four camps! You can sneak a peek at Camp Cap-A-Lot’s home base badge below:

Cap-A-Lot Cabin- Capture at least one Camp Cap-A-Lot Red Flag

Help cheer on your camp by purchasing Camp Spirit merch! The online collection includes a number of different products featuring the four camp logos. Whether you want to wear camp style with a shirt, or sip camp spirit with a tin mug, we’ve got you covered! Check out the whole collection HERE!

We hope this injects a bit of fun into your summer and gets you into the spirit of our Camp-themed 9th Birthday Celebration! If you love this artwork, look for it and so much more on our sister app, WallaBee!

There are 6 capture badges to earn with a comic book theme. These badges are for Myth Variant captures, so be sure to track one down whenever it’s nearby! Think you can collect each volume? We won’t spoil all of the covers, but you can check out the first badge in the line below:

There are also 3 additional new badges that have been added to the Myth Collector line. You may recall that these are awarded based on overall myth captures. As a reminder, you can see the first of this badge line below:

Myth Trapper – Capture 1,000 Mythological Munzees of any type.

This brings the total number of Myth Collector badges available to 6! We hope you look forward to seeing the new adventures depicted on each badge!

As these badge lines are retroactive, you may have already met the requirements for some of them, and should see them on your account soon! If not, please wait a few days as our system catches up with awarding these new badges to everyone who has earned them, before contacting support.

In celebration of these new badges, we have also added ALL of the Mythological Munzees to the store! Shop the whole collection HERE and remember you can now own multiples of the same Mythological Munzees! You may purchase up to 2 within 365 days. So if your original purchases were years ago you are able to buy 2 currently. This is perfect for completing Myth Variant sets! June 2020 GOTM Winners + July POTM Requirements!

June is officially the start of summer here at MHQ, so since a lot of us aren’t able to enjoy the usual beach outing we decided to bring the beach to you instead!

Swimming Into Summer Recap

We kicked off the month with new Turtle and Jellyfish Evolutions which were a hit due to their unique characteristics! World Oceans Day was celebrated with a new limited edition Greeting Card and a special water-focused ZEE-Dayz. Aquatic Baby Animals followed soon after, with some new badges to earn! The following week, we met the first Modern Myth, Poseidon, who seemed to attract a few admirers thanks to his fit physique! World Sushi Day specials took over where the Aquatic Baby Animals left off, because what’s the beach without some delicious seafood? Lastly, the release of the Akvamariin stone rounded out all the themed releases for the month. There were many other fun releases in June that did not fit the theme as well, the most notable of which were the Trojan Unicorn badges!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the June Garden of the Month (GOTM), give one last reminder for June Player of the Month (POTM), and announce the criteria for July POTM! The badges for June GOTM and POTM will be awarded in early July, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

June GOTM

When choosing June GOTM, we HAD to pick these two as they perfectly fit with our beach/ocean theme this month! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Seashell Garden, designed by dt07751 & hunniees, and Goldfish Garden, designed by szegedi, as our winning June GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

Seashell Garden by dt07751 & hunniees in Gibsonton, FL

Gibsonton is famous for having colorful carnival employees as residents. However, it also has some beautiful beaches!

We’re not experts on seashells, but this garden likely depicts some type of tulip shell due to its pink color and the way it spirals to a point. They are the shell of choice for hermit crabs. Only the creators know for sure though!

Goldfish Garden by szegedi in Szeged, Hungary

The Holt-Maros river is the perfect border for this garden — many enjoy taking walks along it due to the beautiful scenery.

We love the HUGE smile on this cute little guy — wouldn’t you love to have him as a pet? We think he’d be best friends with Flounder from Disney’s The Little Mermaid!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Send your nomination for GOTM to iloveyou@munzee.com! Keep in mind that we take all former nominations into consideration for upcoming months. Just be sure your garden follows the nomination rules in order to be considered eligible!

If you need help deploying in a Virtual Garden, you can check out this step-by-step tutorial that will making deploying in a garden easy no matter how long you’ve been playing. To fill in the gardens, make sure to stock up on Virtuals and Color Credits from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

June POTM

June’s POTM called for at least 1 Places Munzee capture for each day in the month. We enjoyed looking through photos attached to Places Munzees and choosing our favorites for the weekend reminders — we’ve got some seriously talented photographers in our player group! Here are the links to those reminders if you missed them (with some comments from the lucky players who’ve visited those Places): Reminder 1, Reminder 2, Reminder 3

Congratulations to all the players who were able to meet the requirement! You can expect to see the badge in early July. If you were not able to, maybe this coming month’s POTM will work out better for you. Keep reading to find out!

Thank you for showing Places Munzees some love this month! We hope that you found them convenient during this time of social distancing!

July POTM Requirements

For our 9th birthday we’re going to Camp Munzee and we’re looking for camp counselors! As we all know, the kids who have been at camp the longest know all there is to know about Munzee, so help us celebrate them!

Do you know an Early Bird or a Trail Blazer? Send us your nominations for POTM based on players who have been involved with Munzee for a number of years and why you think they’d be a perfect camp counselor! Please fill out this Google Form for every user you’d like to nominate: https://forms.gle/8h6sUqqX2inE5h4r9 Separate nominations for each user makes it easier for us to award the badges!

As in the previous months, this unique POTM badge is eligible for any player to earn regardless of previous wins. The badge will appear as follows:

We hope you’re excited for what July has in store!

July Flat Friends and QRewzdays Schedules!

July is our birthday month and it is going to be full of announcements, fun, updates, and new stuff. Everything we do may be subject to change. Remember to follow your local guidelines and Stay Home if required.

Forever Flat Schedule

Our first big announcement for birthday month is that all 4 of our Flat Friends will be on the map forever! That’s right, we’ve made the decision to keep all flats on the map permanently instead of on a rotating basis like they were originally planned. There are several reasons for this update, but the main reason is based on the success of doing this for the past 3 months. The number of points available on a daily basis remains high for owners and cappers with this special layer of munzees. We hope you appreciate this change in your favor!

July QRewzday Schedule

Now it’s time to mark your calendars for July QRewzdays to earn some QRewzee points! We’ve got a nice sprinkling of them throughout the month, so there’s likely a day that works for you! It’s the two non-clan days as usual and then all the multiples of 3 so it’s easy to remember!

The July QRewzdays are as follows:

  • July 1 at 00:01 MHQ time through July 3rd at  at 23:59 MHQ time,
  • The following dates beginning at 00:01 MHQ time until 23:59 MHQ time on the same day: July 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30

Remember that QRew and ZeeQRew status can be earned or revoked at 00:01 MHQ time on the 1st and 15th, so plan accordingly if you want to achieve or retain either title!

Much of the lower levels this month can be completed from the comfort of your home, which may be required in your local area. We understand the world is in a state of not knowing what the next days, weeks, or months will look like. We will continue to provide opportunities for ALL players to play Munzee their way, while also following our code of conduct.

If Clan Wars won’t work for you this month we hope you will join us for ZeeOps!

Your Clan can earn monthly badges to earn for reaching distinct levels of Clan Wars each month. You won’t be able to earn a badge until the entire clan has reached the specified level. Since there is NO Level X this month, there will be a total of 5 badges available in July. The first badge will appear as follows:

Novice Newbies: July 2020- Reached Level 1 in July 2020 Clan Wars

Overall Clan Notes:

Please keep in mind Levels 4 & 5 are considered advanced gameplay and not recommended for brand new players. Be aware when allowing new players to join your clans or leaving your clan PUBLIC for anyone to join. You are unable to kick a player out of your clan when the battle begins on the 3rd, or after.

Bouncer captures include any POB, MOB, or TOB (even the temporary POB)

*Mystery points include all Cap, Deploy, and CapOn for ALL mystery types. (Mystery, Ice, Fire, Water, Earth, Electric, Air) — this does NOT include scatters from these types
**Clan War Card is a new limited edition greeting card. It will follow all the same points and rules as other Limited Edition greeting cards.

Deploy points are for all types excluding Personals.

Total points include Cap, Deploy, and CapOn of all types.
Flat friends points include all Cap, Deploy, and CapOn for flat Rob, flat Matt, flat Lou, and flat Hammock. Fancy Flat Rob and Fancy Flat Matt are NOT included in flat friends points.

Social and Personal will not count for Deploy requirements.
Social will not count for total Capture requirements.
Personal will not count for Physical points of any sort. It is not a true physical munzee.

For complete information regarding Clan Wars, access our Help Guide!

Hints for how to play during Stay Home orders:
Use the swap feature for brand new virtual deploys.
Use the online map to deploy virtuals worldwide or find gardens to deploy in on social media groups.
Watch the online store for sales during the month to help meet your goals.
Use evolution reset credits to get new CapOn points from OLD deploys (they do NOT count as new deploys unless they launch a tPOB in the final stage which does have deploy points!)

And finally, be responsible. If your local government, your health, or any circumstances require you to Stay Home – DO NOT participate. It is up to each of us to determine what is safe and what is allowed. This is a game and not worth risking your own live or the lives of others.
Munzee on, stay safe and Play Your Way!

Requirements and rewards found in app are the final word. Please report any issues to Munzee support.
Play at your own risk, within the laws of your local area.

July 2020’s Resolution Is Not Just For Kids!

Now that summer is in full swing, have you been able to enjoy some of your usual hot-weather activities? While it’s certainly easier to break a sweat due to the temperature, we hope you aren’t slacking off on your fitness regimen!

For July we are featuring jump rope! Like last month’s exercise, jogging, jumping rope is a great aerobic exercise and is also very simple to do. Another benefit from jumping rope is that it exercises your coordination and ability to focus — after all, maintaining the rhythm you have turning the rope and jumping over it at the same time is no easy feat, and it gets harder as you become more tired. The only downside (or rather, barrier) to jumping rope is that it does require 1 piece of equipment and a space bubble big enough to fit your entire body comfortably within the bounds of the jump rope while standing or jumping. If you don’t have enough space, you might get your rope caught on something and injure yourself or others.

What is the perfect jump rope length?

The answer depends on whether you’re jumping alone or with a group! If you’re jumping alone, the perfect length will depend on your height. According to LiveStrong.com, anyone shorter than 4’9″ should use a 7-foot rope, while anyone taller than 6’6″ should use an 11-foot rope. If, like most people, you’re somewhere in-between, check out the link to see how long your jump rope should be!

While it may be a while before you get to jump in a group, LiveStrong’s suggested rope lengths grow depending on how many people are jumping. For a single jumper with the ropes being turned by two others, a 12-foot rope should suffice. However, more than 4 jumpers will require at least double that length! If you’re jumping double dutch, these same recommendations apply — and both ropes should be the same length!

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!
