Introducing Overall Destination Badges!

Room service, anyone?

We’re happy to announce that a new line of badges have been released for capturing and deploying Destination Munzees of any type. With rooms booked up so often we wanted to give our players even more of a reason to continue capturing and deploying Motels, Hotels, Virtual Resorts and Timeshares.

These new badges are retroactive, but you’ll only be able to see the requirements for the next badge once you complete the previous one.

Here’s a look at the first badge for each set.

Once you earn the first in the set you’ll unlock the requirements for the next badge. Please note that Rooms within Destination Munzees will not count toward these badges. All of the badges are live so you can start earning them now.

These badges may be a bit tough to earn, but nobody said building a Destination empire was easy!

Happy hunting and as always, Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Rob Collins (coastingcollins)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Rob Collins (coastingcollins).

Who are you?
My name is Rob, Munzee username “coastingcollins”. Some of my friends call me “RoBbY bObBy”.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in the Beautiful Heart of the Ozarks in Springfield, Missouri, USA.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing Munzee for 520 days, with a streak to match. My first capture was on May 1st, 2016, and my first deploy was on May 4th, 2016. (I didn’t have any munzees to deploy until a fellow player offered to help me out — Thanks, Semipaw!!!)

How did you find Munzee?
After a long previous day of playing another geo-location based game, I was scrolling through Facebook right before church, and I saw a one-minute video. I told my wife. “rollermama”, that the game looked pretty fun and interesting. Little did I know, I was hooked.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Well, this is a tough question, so I have to go with 2 answers…

First, I would have to say FAMILY TIME. I’m a proud dad of 5 amazing kids and the husband to my amazing, beautiful wife, Cindy aka “rollermama”. The time we go out and play Munzee is priceless. Just sitting back and reflecting on all of the memories the game has brought my family kinda makes me teary eyed.

Secondly, I would have to say events. I really enjoy seeing the community of players get together and enjoy everyone’s company. From the smiles I see from all ages at the events to the stories of other players about their munzing days, they are friends I would be proud to call family. It’s all very special to me.

What is on your wish list?
Traveling the ole roads of the United States and capping and deploying munzees at every amusement park. Oh, and the infamous Glitch Badge.

Tell us about yourself!
Well, like I stated before, I’m a proud dad of 5 amazing kids and the husband to my amazing, beautiful wife, Cindy. We also have three dogs (Jet, Chloe, and Charleigh), two cats (Gadget and KitKat), and tons of fish. I’m a family man and love spending time outdoors with my family.

Other hobbies include:
I’m a big roller coaster geek (hence my name “coastingcollins”). I love riding coasters with friends and family. Again, the smiles you see on people’s faces while they enjoy good times are very rewarding

Any last words?
I would like to thank the local Munzee community, GAD64 and Semipaw. Without them, we couldn’t have grown the map and make Springfield, MO a Munzee stop. I would also like to thank the online Munzee community for helping me fill my local gardens (4 of them so far with 2 more already planned). Lastly, I would like to thank my fellow Munzee players and friends who nominated me for POTW. This is an HONOR, and I’m very thankful. So, until next time, my friends… Munzee on!

coastingcollins has also included a social, so cap away!

October Physical MunzPak and Introducing the Seasonal Munzee!

Over the past few months, we’ve been trying to refine our MunzPak programs by listening to feedback and requests from subscribers. This month, we’re implementing some new changes in response to that feedback. October’s Physical MunzPak includes only physical stickers. While we will still be including generics, any special munzee types will be included as stickers and not credits.

This month’s Physical MunzPak includes:

  • 5 New Seasonal Munzees (see below)
  • 3 Fire Mystery Munzees
  • 3 Ice Mystery Munzees
  • 2 Earth Mystery Munzees
  • 2 Water Mystery Munzees
  • 35 Mini Generic Stickers

We’ve also changed how the stickers are printed. All of the items included in this month’s Physical MunzPak are on one sheet. The layout for this sheet is below.

There will also be an insert included in the MunzPak envelope that explains this.

Now, let’s talk about the new Seasonal Munzee!

The new Seasonal Munzee is similar to the Evolution Munzees in that it changes after a period of time. The Season Munzee will change to the corresponding season on set dates:

  • October 1st – Fall (Northern Hemisphere)/Spring (Southern Hemisphere)
  • January 1st – Winter (Northern Hemisphere)/Summer (Southern Hemisphere)
  • April 1st – Spring (Northern Hemisphere)/Fall (Southern Hemisphere)
  • July 1st – Summer (Northern Hemisphere)/Winter (Southern Hemisphere)

This cycle will be continuous, but you can only capture each stage of the munzee once (i.e. if you capture the Fall stage, you cannot capture the Fall stage a year later).

Points

  • Deploy – 25 points
  • Capture – 20 points (per season captured)
  • CapOn – 10 points

Proximity Rules: 150ft from your own munzees; 50ft from other players’ munzees

We hope you enjoy the new Seasonal Munzee as well as the changes to MunzPak! If you’re not a MunzPak subscriber, you can subscribe here.

Munzee on!

MHQ Bash Recap and Galleries

MHQ Bash has come and gone and needless to say we had a great time. We could spend many hours going into fine detail the times that were had, but we’ll try and keep it brief. That being said if we release a 4 hour long videocast in the near future, you’ll know why.

Take a quick look back on some of the weekend’s highlights. Follow the links to see photo galleries, share your favorites and remember to join us again next year!

Friday- Registration and Casino Night

We kicked off MHQ Bash 4 Registration on Friday night with casino games, some musical performances and a whole lot of fun! The Royal Flush Family was shuffling around and a certain jester kept the crowd entertained.

Major thanks goes to Cecie and the MHQ admin staff for making this one of the quickest and easiest registrations we’ve ever had! We had way more time for fun activities like our TazkMaster team building project.

Check out photos from the event HERE.

Check out the Eventzee gallery HERE.

Saturday Morning- Eventzee Activity Scavenger Hunt

Viva Las Vegas! We had a whole slew of casino-themed activities Saturday morning that left our players screaming “ALL IN!” Players had to locate each of the 10 activity stops, complete a specific challenge, and answer a quiz question after scanning the station’s QR code. The King himself even showed up!

Check out photos from the event HERE.

Check out the Eventzee gallery HERE.

Saturday Afternoon- WallaBash

WallaBee and Munzee players came together at The Hive (MHQ) for the first official gathering of the Bees and the Zees! WallaBee artist Andy Cameron signed players’ passports, Robbie and the BeeKeepers kept the party buzzing, and many prizes were won. We were surprised by how many people were in attendance, so expect next year’s WallaBash to be even bigger!

Check out photos from the event HERE.

Saturday Night- Oktoberfest

Our players helped us wind down the evening at the site of the very first MHQ Bash: Downtown McKinney’s Oktoberfest! We met at the former Munzee Marketplace (RIP) and explored all of the German festivities throughout. After a long day, taking a relaxing stroll through Downtown McKinney and capping the event trail was a perfect end.

Check out the Eventzee gallery HERE.

Sunday Morning- MunzFit 3K Race

MHQ Bash came to an end by kicking off our MunzFit 2.0 program! Everyone who could make it joined us in 3K race around Towne Lake in McKinney. Even though some could have used a bit better of a stretch before the race (looking at you Dylan) the weather was great and everyone had a good time.

Check out the Eventzee gallery HERE.

Thank you to the members of Team Munzee for making this a year to remember, to those worldwide who deployed in the area, and of course to everyone who joined us in McKinney! Stay tuned for news regarding MHQ Bash 5 soon! This year will be hard to beat, but hey we have a year to plan.

As always, Munzee on!

Flat Schedules and Events for October (UDPATED)

Hey, everyone!

As you may have noticed, Flat Robs and Flat Matts are still on the map. That was intentional. Our wonderful Events Manager, Louise, asked that they remain on the map for the duration of MunzFit 2.0 events, and we were happy to have Rob and Matt virtually attend all of them. If you need a refresher, that means Flat Robs and Flat Matts will be on the map until 23:59 MHQ time on October 15th.

That doesn’t mean Rob and Matt won’t be out and about, though. They will be attending events throughout the month, as well.

Rob

In the spirit of coexisting, Rob will be attending “Going Caching” in Rome, Georgia next week, and end his adventures at the “GA – Going Ca…er uh Munzeeing! Rome” event! You can meet him at the “Going Caching” events next Wednesday, October 4th through Sunday, October 8th. If you’re attending “Going Caching” or are just in the area, make sure to stop by and say hi. The theme is Spy Games so it fits well in his covert ops mindset and attire.

Matt

Matt, on the other hand, will be getting into the Halloween spirit in Missouri during the end of the month. On Saturday, October 21st, he’ll be in Kansas City for “A Spooktacular KC Halloween” and “Kansas City’s Ghoulish Last Call“. The following weekend, he will be headed up to Springfield, Missouri for the “2nd Annual MunZters Mash” event on Saturday, October 28th.

Team Munzee

In the week between Rob and Matt’s travels, Team Munzee will be participating in the 2017 DFW Tour de Cure on Saturday, October 14th! We will be hosting an event after the race, and you can read all about our Tour de Cure efforts here. You still have time to join or donate to our team. Keep an eye out for more information as we get closer to race day!

Without further ado, here are the schedules for Flat Robs and Flat Matts:

Flat Robs

  • Through October 15th at 23:59 MHQ time
  • Friday, October 27th at 00:01 MHQ time through Sunday, October 29th at 23:59 MHQ time
  • Additional times in October are possible but not confirmed at this time

Flat Matts

Team Munzee Meets the TazkMaster

Over the weekend, MHQ Bash attendees were given the chance to look behind the veil at what Team Munzee does in its free time. We introduced them to a new team building project we’ve been working on called TazkMaster!

Based on the British comedy game show Taskmaster*, our version sees the Munzee staff split into teams and tasked with completing bizarre and vague challenges for points. The teams are given very little information regarding how they complete their Tazks, so they have to work together to succeed.

Prior to the MHQ Bash reveal, the teams had no clue what they were doing or how they were doing compared to the other teams. At Casino Night Friday, TazkMaster Rob and Tazktician Dylan unveiled a compiled video of the first two Tazks.

Tazk 1: FTC (Freeze To Capture)

Objective: Thaw out the hidden Ice Munzee and scan it for points. You can use objects that have been hidden around the room, but you must be quick.

In this challenge each team had to thaw out an Ice Munzee from a bowl of frozen water. They could use any items in the room to access the munzee, but not all items were easily seen. Some of the teams were quick to crack the code, while others just blew a bunch of hot air.

Tazk 2: Alphabet Zoup

Objective: Your team needs to put their heads together to fill out the Munzee Alphabet Zoup form. Name as many munzee types as you can for each letter of the Alphabet in under 2 minutes. A is for Amethyst, B is for Battle Axe, etc. Each letter will only count once.

For this Tazk our teams had to come up with a munzee for each letter of the alphabet. Easy right? Well for a group who works 40 hours a week with Munzee, you might expect a little more out of us…

Finally, after revealing the videos of the first two Tazks Friday night we announced that a third Tazk was going to be preformed live in front of the audience! While the video for this won’t be released for a few weeks, we figured we could let you all in on the worst-kept secret in Team Munzee history.

Tazk 3: Munzee Melodeez

Objective: Show the crowd at MHQ Bash a good time and come up with some Munzee Melodeez. Using your team’s instrument, write a Munzee-themed jingle set to a well known song’s beat. You have 15 minutes to plan your song in private. Encourage the crowd to sing along and wow the TazkMaster who is judging the jingles.

In the middle of Friday’s Casino Night event, Dylan pulled the team’s away individually to announce the surprise Tazk. Each team had 15 minutes to prepare their songs and surprisingly there were some bonafide hits!

Be on the lookout for the compilation video soon, as well as the updated team scores.

We also announced that Tazk 3 was just the beginning of these TazkMaster shenanigans. Throughout the coming months we’ll be challenging our teams more and more, with a grand finale at next year’s MHQ Bash. You won’t want to miss out, so keep up with our Tazks as they’re released and join us again next year at MHQ Bash 5!

Rob with some Macho Men after their Munzee Melodeez performance.

*Please note that we don’t have anything to do with the British game show Taskmaster. This isn’t a tease of something else to come, just a fun team-building exercise internally. It just happened to turn out very funny and worth sharing with our friends worldwide!

Introducing the Premium Personal Munzee!

We introduced Personal Munzees as a way to incorporatea more social aspect to the game while allowing you to earn points. Since then, Personals have taken on a life of their own in the game. Now, we’re introducing the next step: the Premium Personal.

Like the original Personal Munzee, the Premium Personal can be deployed up to three times per day and has a one mile capture radius. The Premium Personal has some upgrades, though. For starters, a Premium Personal has a higher point structure:

  • Capture/CapOn: Split of 100 points, minimum 20 points
  • Deploy: 25 points — You only receive deploy points for the original deploy, not every time it is deployed.

Premium Personals also have another trick up their sleeve — you can link other Personal Munzees to a Premium Personal for quick deployment. You still have to capture each Personal individually. On the details page of a Premium Personal, you will see a button called “Slave Munzees”.

On the next page, you will see a space to enter the URL for one of your other Personal Munzees. NOTE: This ONLY works with Personal Munzees, and they must be owned by you.

After you click “Link Munzee”, your Personal Munzee will show up underneath the URL field. You can manage the Personals linked to your Premium Personal on this page.

Premium Personal Munzees will be launching TONIGHT at MHQ Bash. All attendees who purchased a package (this does not include the “Ace High” free package) will receive a Premium Personal (seen below).

Premium Personal Munzees will be available in the Munzee Online Store next week. Premium Personals will only be available to Premium Members, and you will only be able to buy 1 per year. Keep an eye on the blog for more information about their availability.

We hope you enjoy the new Premium Personal Munzee!

Munzee on!
