Server Migrations

As we move forward and grow the game, we want to provide you with the best experience possible. We all found out at the beginning of the year how frustrating server downtime is, and we want to prevent that from happening in the future. We’ve mentioned before that we would be looking into alternative ways of hosting our game and services, and the time has come to take action.

Tomorrow, January 26th, we will be moving our Munzee services to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This move will begin at 18:00 MHQ time and will last roughly 3 hours (until 21:00 MHQ time). Though we don’t expect any downtime during this transition, sporadic outages are possible. If there are issues and you are unable to continue streaks or other achievements, please email support@munzee.com and we will ensure that those are taken care of.

This move will consist of Munzee and Eventzee gameplay services. The blog website has already been moved over, so updates regarding the move tomorrow will be posted here and on social media.

Thank you for your continued support, and Munzee on!

As part of our mission statement and theme for this year, we’re introducing a new activity. On the last Friday of every month, Team Munzee is going to get back to our roots and community. We will be going out and playing MunzeeTree3 (1)Munzee as a team. We invite players in the area to come join us on our adventures.

Our first Munzee with Team Munzee day will be next Friday, January 29th. We will be in Frisco, Texas from 9:15-11:15 MHQ time. You can find all of the information on the calendar and can let us know if you’ll be joining us!

Each month we will add the event to the Munzee Calendar and promote it on the blog an social media. We hope you can join us!

Munzee Fitness FAQs (Updated)

We’ve had some questions regarding Munzee Fitness, so we wanted to answer some of the most asked ones.

How do I link a fitness tracker to Munzee?
We’ve posted a video that you can watch here.

I earned a badge (e.g. 5K Day) on Fitbit. Why haven’t I earned the equivalent Munzee badge?
Munzee needs to retrieve the data from Fitbit in order to award a Munzee badge. If you earned those steps prior to January 1st, we won’t have that data in our database.

I’ve completed the requirements for a badge already, will these be retroactive?
These are only going to be retroactive since January 1st. You probably won’t see those badges until all of your data is loaded for January which will occur on February 2nd.

We Munzee as a couple (or family). Can we use Munzee Fitness together or do we need to create a second account?
Munzee Fitness will only link to ONE Fitbit account. If you want a separate tracking of players, you’ll need 2 Munzee accounts and 2 Fitbit accounts.

Can I use Google Fit or S Health the same way as Apple Health?
Unfortunately, no. Right now, S Health is NOT supported by Fitbit.

What devices will be supported?
At this time, Apple Health (without needing to sync through Fitbit) is on our radar. Any other devices with a public web API (not a development kit) could easily be supported, but we are researching it. We will continue to update you as new devices are added.

Is there a link to buy a Fitbit through affiliation?
Yes! The banner on the Munzee Blog and Fitness Leaderboard are through Munzee’s affiliation with Fitbit. You can also follow this link.

Will there be more badges available?
We do have plans to expand the badge lines in the future.

How do I remove the Fitbit authorization for Munzee?
There is a link under the users profile (https://www.fitbit.com/user/profile/edit) called Applications. You will see Munzee listed there. Simply click the “Revoke Access” button. It will require the user to reauthorize Munzee if they want to earn badges or be visible on the leaderboard.

If you have questions or need clarification on Munzee Fitness, please contact us at support@munzee.com.

Thanks and Munzee on!

What A Weekend!

You all are amazing! This past weekend saw many great things and we couldn’t be happier! Let’s recap some of that and talk about some new ongoings:

  • New Capture Record: You set a new record for number of captures in a single day! This past Saturday (January 16th) saw over 700,000 captures!
  • Double Point Weekend: MunzPak Subscribers and Premium Members had a double point weekend and they certainly took advantage of it. It almost makes us wonder if we should extend the Daily Scoreboard line of badges…
  • New Store Test: There were a few hiccups with the new store soft opening, but that’s to be expected. Overall, we feel it went very well. We’ll be updating you soon with more information about when it will be fully launched.
  • RMH Virtuals: Your response to the RMH Virtuals was amazing. We’ll be announcing total numbers and our donation soon.
  • Florida Events: Rob spent some time attending events in Florida this weekend and wanted to thank the hosts and attendees! He even got in the spirit and dressed up some 😉12417910_802556679854952_2963093733005468379_n
  • RMH Virtuals and Travel Collide: You may have noticed Flat Robs are on the map right now. Well, Rob couldn’t miss the “David Rings the Bell” Event in Spokane, so he flew out early this morning to get there. He’ll be out of office today and tomorrow, so that means a couple of things:
    • Flat Robs will be on the map until tomorrow (Tuesday, 1/19) at 23:59 MHQ time.
    • Flat Robs will also be on sale during this same time.

We’ve got a lot more planned for you, so keep an eye out! Thank you again for the amazing weekend, and Munzee on!

Holiday Season Plans

Well, the holiday season is upon us. For the MHQ team, that means a lot of travelling. Below is a list of events you should be aware of.

American Thanksgiving

  • The MHQ staff (including Rob) will be out of the office from Wednesday, November 25th through Sunday, November 29th. That means Flat Robs will be back on the map during those days!

Christmas Parties

  • The amount of Christmas parties on the schedule is amazing, and we can’t wait to see the results of them! Rob and Matt will be travelling to events during December.
    • Rob will  be attending “Capping the Coast” during the first weekend of December! If you’re in the Florida area,or just want to have a good time, make sure you join!
    • Matt will be attending “Metro Vancouver Post Holiday Cap’ing” on December 27th. It’s the first official Munzee visit to Vancouver, so if you’re in the Pacific Northwest and can make it, he’d love to meet you all!

Christmas and New Year’s Plans

  • MHQ staff will be out of the office for some days during December to spend time with their families for Christmas and the new year. We’ll provide more details about those dates (and when you’ll be able to catch Flat Rob on the map again) as we get closer.

Newz from the Prez

I wanted to take a few minutes and update everyone on several issues we are facing. The first is the release of iOS 9 and our subsequent blog post about how it would effect the use of our app. We appreciate the patience of our Apple phone using players as we patiently wait for version 3.0.2 to be approved by Apple. The second issue has been our announcement of removal of our 2.x apps from Google Play and the App store on October 1st. Many suggestions have been made about alternatives, however several core components to the app were due for renewal from their providers. With the release of 3.0 and the new core components the time was right to cut off the other services. We realize both of these issues are not optimal for our worldwide players but we are working to come up with the best solutions possible. To help ease some of the pain we’ve come up with something fun for all players! 🙂

As a thank you to our loyal players we are opening up the prize vault this weekend. From 00:01 September 18 until 23:59 September 20 you will have a chance to win random prizes from MHQ (all times are MHQ based, GMT -6). These prizes will be added to your credits or your undeployed list. Every capture and/or deploy during this time has a chance to earn you a prize so get out there and Grow the Map or paint the town red! Prizes include virtuals, mystery virtuals, virtual colors, motels, aquamarines, diamonds, rubies, and even blast captures! We wish you good luck and hope you spend some time this weekend with Munzee, family, and friends.

In addition we’ve also lowered the price on several products in the store for the weekend, starting at the time of this blog post. Check out the special deals here.

Thanks for your patience during our time moving forward with the new 3.0 version of Munzee. I can’t wait for you to see what else we have in store for you during this year of New Perspective.  — Rob

Munzee 3.0 is Here!

This past year has brought quite a few changes in the Munzee Universe. Not only has Team Munzee grown but we’ve also grown our company to include new apps and ventures. Through it all, we never lost track of our core. Our company, and family, is built on the Munzee app and community. We’ve spent an extremely large amount of time and energy planning, designing, building, and refining the Munzee 3.0 update, and now, we’re ready to release it to the world.

The Munzee 3.0 app is not just an update, but a complete redesign intended to improve the experience for you, the player. Some of the changes include:

  • No more Home Screen. Loading the app now takes you to the most important screen, the map!
  • A new profile page that provides all of your information in one place
  • An improved messaging system that provides real-time communication and notifications
  • An in-app leaderboard section that provides detailed and up-to-date information

We’ve added many new premium features to this fancy app as well.

  • Removal of ads – can be turned on/off under settings in app
  • ADVANCED FILTERS
  • Multi User Login (up to 3 users)
  • Daily Leaderboard with almost real-time stats
  • Upgraded options to show up to 2000 munzees on map
  • Titles
  • Ability to add pictures at location of Munzee (upcoming badge series to be earned)

In order to give more people access we are lowering the price of the premium membership until 11:00AM September 4, 2015 from $30 to $23. This is limited to a one-year renewal or brand new premium account purchase only. If you area already a premium member it will add one year to the end of your current membership. Purchase a premium membership in our online store at https://store.munzee.com/Premium-Member-Subscription.html ***Apologies to MunzPak subscribers, August coupon will be disabled this time, but will be extended through the 6th. ONE TIME USE ONLY ON COUPON***

iOS users will see Munzee 3.0 as an update in the App Store over the next 1-24 hours. Android users will see Munzee 3.0 as a NEW app in the Google Play Store. We will be removing the current Munzee app from the Google Play Store. If you experience any issues please email support@munzee.com with all details.

Last, but not least, we’d like to thank everyone who helped and was involved with Beta testing the Munzee 3.0 app. Your feedback was extremely important in making the app what it is.

We hope you enjoy Munzee 3.0! Grow the map!

Munzee Player of the Week: Marie Hunniecutt (hunniees)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Marie Hunniecutt (hunniees).

Who are you?
I am the spouse of a munzee addict (dt07751) and a Florida Cracker. No, a Florida Cracker is not a biscuit or snack food but a native Floridian. 😉 marienoseFlorida is a major cattle producer in the US and “Cracker” refers to the sound a whip makes when hearding cattle

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Lithia, Florida in the US, a munzee rich area. This is in central Florida not too far from Disney World or the beach.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing munzee about 2 years ago on a family vacation in the Midwest

How did you find Munzee?
We scanned a munzee posted on a Lake Superior Lighthouse. Thank you lrgrego for including a little information about munzee along with the QR! Since this was a driving vacation, I thought it would be fun to try it out. There weren’t many munzees on our trip or near our home at that time. Once we figured out tree hides and deployed our first mystery munzee, we were hooked.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
There are so many things I love about this game!

  1. Social Munzees
No, you don’t get points, but you get the chance to meet and interact with people from all over the world sharing and trading Social Munzees. I have met such wonderful people and made many new friends via Social Munzees.
  2. Walking
My work as an accountant required lots of time sitting and staring at a computer. (Of course, you can tell I am an accountant from the numbered lists. 😉 ) Munzee gets you out of doors, increases your activity, and gives you new venues to explore.
  3. Exploring
Since my hubby and I like to travel, Munzee provides a way to explore new surroundings. By following Munzee Trails, we find lovely 11873933_736863866424234_876809587_nplaces that you wouldn’t read about in a travel brochure. One of my favorite spots in Cologne is a park that we found following a Mystery Munzee trail. Then, there are the munzees in Bergen overlooking the harbor…breathtaking.
Through meeting other players, we explored new areas including Southend by the Sea, Celle, and Berlin. Thank you Tatch, Mary, McRon, Plueschi, JackSparrow and ChickenRun for making our visits so special.
  4. The Players!
Whether it be earning a badge, learning how to create a social, or understanding game play, most munzee players go out of their way to reach out and lend a helping hand. I love helping other players and learning new munzee tips. Munzee is at its best when players work together.
  5. Clan Battles.
Munzee does a good job of highlighting different aspects of the game in Clan Battles. I enjoy seeing which new aspect of the game will be incorporated each month. Wouldn’t it be great to see Social Munzees in next month’s battle?

Event pic

What is on your wish list?

  1. Fitbit badges.
The relationship between munzee and fitbit is a natural. It would be great to recognize the exercise benefits of munzee.
  2. More Rover badges.
While we have badges for the number of rovers handled, the rover leaderboard is not currently recognized via badges. A badge for the number of rovers owned and unleashed might be helpful in making rovers a larger part of the game.
  3. Official Munzee Communications pushed to email and the application.
When we first began playing munzee we missed a lot of key information since we were not using Facebook. I am now actively using FaceBook but find that many munzee players are still missing key information. The recent munzee Amethyst communication via the app was great and I hope this continues.
  4. Landing Page Redesign.
While I love seeing recent captures and popular deployments on my munzee landing page, social munzees are commingled with virtuals and physicals. For those individuals with social munzees, the current design preventsready identification of popular physical/virtual deployments. It would be great to have social munzee deployments listed separate from other deployments.
  5. Personal Munzees for Sale.
Great idea to develop a personal locationless munzee. My mouth has been watering since I saw them in July but regrettably I was not the winner. Pretty please release them for sale!
  6. Application Capacity.
With the recent sale of Emeralds or other special event sales/activities, munzee speed and response seems to be a consistent issue. I expect sales are lost due to member frustration during these periods and that increased revenue which would offset additional capacity cost.

Munzee Clan Franklin

Tell us about yourself!
I am happy to be part of the Florida Munzee Family and a member of a great clan, Florida Munzee Hunters SuperChuckers. Florida is a great place to munzee! Should you ever come here to visit, please send me a note. It would be great to have you visit Florida and I would be happy to share tips and information about munzeeing here. Summers are pretty hot and humid, so Florida is best seen in the Fall, Winter or Spring. 🙂

Other hobbies include:
Baking. That is all I can squeeze in with munzee

hunniees also included some socials (one of which is on the Header Image), so cap away!
