MHQ 6th Birthday Bash Recap!

We had a SUPER good time during MHQ’s Birthday Bash! Players from all over joined us for a fun afternoon at the MHQ offices last Friday. They walked away with Birthday Comic skinned stickers, were the first to get their hands on some awesome Munzee Worldwide apparel, and earned more than a couple badges! Everyone showed off their heroic profiles in the Eventzee photo backdrop with a wide array of superhero costumes.

Thank you again to everyone who came and we’re excited to see all of you and more at MHQ Bash in the Fall!

Even if you couldn’t make it out to MHQ’s Birthday Bash, there are still a bunch of 6th Birthday events going on all around the world. Join Rob and Matt in Munzee, IN this weekend for even more fun.

Birthday Event Update

Greetings everyone! This message comes to you on behalf of Louise, our events manager, based in the UK. It is mainly for the hosts of previous and upcoming events however some information is helpful to all players as well.

In case you didn’t know July has already been a record breaking month for events in many ways. Our largest event ever happened in Bielefeld Germany with over 250 attendees. We’ve seen well over 2,000 players attend more than 50 events around the world. AND we’re only half way through the month with more events on the way!

In addition to all of this activity, we let you know in advance that Louise would be very busy on the personal side of her life during the month. She’s had multiple long distance bike races with another happening at the end of the month. This past weekend she competed in L’Etape du Tour in the French Alps, aka Stage 18 of this years Tour de France (being raced by the professionals in two days). It was a grueling 125 mile (200 km) race with over 12000 feet (4000 m) of elevation change, over two mountain passes, but we are happy to report she completed it with no major injuries or issues. Team Munzee is proud of our “cycling queen” for this major achievement as she smashed the course in less than 10 hours! If you’d like to see a satellite overview video of her race please click here.

In addition to the time away for the race she was unexpectedly delayed due to the airport closure at London Gatwick, and subsequently Lyon France. She’s arrived home safe and sound now but has a mountain of emails and event wrap up to do (fortunately she’s proven she can climb mountains!). We appreciate your patience as she works her way through all of her usual work over the next 48-72 hours. This includes any new event submissions over the last week.

How To Deploy Places Munzees

UPDATE 2:

The blog post was incorrect in its statement of proximity. Places Munzees cannot be deployed within a mile of the same type but can be deployed within a mile of another type.

 

UPDATE: 

We’ve had a great response to Places Munzees, but to help both our players and our approvers we’ve put together some more defined guidelines for deploying. Go HERE to learn more!

With Places munzees now open to all players, we wanted to go into detail about how the deployment process will work. Currently players can deploy Airports, Sports Stadiums, Wildlife and the new Museum Places munzees all across the world.

Players can deploy their Places munzee from the online Munzee map. Remember that only one Places munzee may be deployed at each location, so you may have to get creative with where you deploy these. Once you deploy the munzee it will then be sent to an MHQ staff member for approval. Places deploys will be approved within 24-48 hours, but these are manually approved, so please be patient. Once your deploy is approved or denied you’ll receive an email notification.

Deploy: 25
Capture: 10
Cap-On: 5

A few notes:

  • Places munzees must be at least 1 mile apart from another munzee of the same type..
  • You cannot cap your own Places munzee.
  • You will deploy Places munzees from your account, so you will get the points when people cap it. These may be capped by players once per MHQ 24 hour time period so there is potential for a lot of cap-on points.
  • Places munzees are not blastable.
  • Each* has a 1,000 ft capture radius. (*This does not include airports which have a 1 mile capture radius.)
  • Can be captured once per 24 hour MHQ day by players.
  • There are a limited amount of each type of Places munzees for sale.
  • Places munzees will cost $10 each and players are limited to one of each type.
  • If your Places munzee deploy is declined, you will receive a brief explanation as to why in the followup email.
  • Even if your location was available at the time of deployment it may be taken by another player who selected that location before you.
  • If your Places Munzee deploy is denied, you’ll still be able to resubmit, but please consider the notes the approver listed for the denial.

All four Places munzees will be for sale, in limited quantities, on Monday July 17th at 15:00 MHQ in the online Munzee Store. Happy Birthday month and Munzee on!

Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

We’re proud to announce that Places Munzees will now be available to the public for purchase! Now you can deploy Airports, Sports Stadiums and Wildlife munzees all across the world. We’re also excited to introduce a new Places Munzee- Museums!

All four Places Munzees will be for sale, in limited quantities, on Monday July 17th at 15:00 MHQ in the online Munzee Store. Places Munzees will cost $10 each and players are limited to one of each type.

Places Munzees are positioned at locations that may be of interest all around the world, depending on the type of Munzee. Previously we have released them through MHQ accounts, based on player suggestions, but we want you all to get in on the fun! Remember that Places Munzees can be scanned again daily, so there’s a possibility to earn a lot of cap-on points!

We’ll have more details about the deployment and approval process on Monday, but we wanted to give you all plenty of time to prepare! We’ll also have a variety of other items on sale Monday, so get ready.

Birthday Coinz and more!

We’re proud to announce the release of a limited number of 6th Birthday Comic Book Special coinz! These golden brass coins look awesome and are a great keepsake from a SUPER month. Those in attendance of our MHQ Birthday Bash will be the first to to have the chance to buy them, so be sure to RSVP.

Along with the Birthday coinz we are also releasing a Recycle coin and a ZeeOps coin. Remember you can use coinz to track specific munzee captures which is perfect when hunting recycles or completing ZeeOps missions. The Recycle coin features the Munzee Recycle icon and the ZeeOps coin features the ZeeOps logo inlaid upon a super unique white metal. Both are great additions to any coin collection!

All three coinz will be available on Friday at MHQ Birthday Bash, but will then be for sale to the public Monday at 3 PM CST. Everyone should be on the lookout for even more items on sale Monday too!

We hope to see a bunch of our players at the event tomorrow, but either way we hope you all enjoy these awesome keepsakes!

Matt’s Birthday Events Trip – Part 1

Hey, everyone!

Matt here, and I just wanted to talk about my trip to Wisconsin and Massachusetts this past weekend.

First off, I want to thank all of the hosts and attendees of the four events I visited. It’s always great to see old friends and meet new ones, and these events were great!

The events in Appleton were the first hosted in Wisconsin by MHQ staff, and I can guarantee we’ll be going back. Everyone was extremely accommodating and welcoming. From a wedding party crashing our group photo to receiving a gift to represent the cheese heads for my office, there was no shortage of fun during the weekend.

The next morning, I flew to Massachusetts just in time for an event at Kimball Farm. Players from states all down the east coast showed up to take up the challenge set by the hosts, and we all had a great time mingling and playing Munzee.

I can’t wait to see more players throughout the rest of the month! You can check out the full schedule of events that Rob and I will be attending on the podcast, but next up for me (after the MHQ birthday event) is Florida!

Submit Your Pictures for Our Spectacular 6th Birthday Gallery!

Last year, we asked you to share your pictures from birthday events and Munzee outings during Birthday Month. We had a great response and put together a gallery showing off the events and players that make this game and community amazing. This year, we want to make an even better one!

If you have a picture (or pictures) that you would like added to our Spectacular 6th Birthday Photo Gallery, send an email to iloveyou@munzee.com with the subject “6th Birthday Gallery”. Please include the following:

  • The high quality photo(s)
  • Your username and real name
  • A description of the photo(s)

These pictures can be of events, scenic views from munzee locations, or fun things you find while searching for munzees during Birthday Month. We will publish the gallery and continue adding to it throughout the month.

We can’t wait to see what you submit!

Introducing Munzee Magnets!

Can you feel the attraction? We’re proud to announce a new gameplay feature called Magnets!

These brand new items are temporary credits you can use to attract Seasonal Specials and Mythological Munzees for a set amount of time. It’s easy, you just Magnetize a greenie of your choosing and that munzee will then attract up to 3 specials or myths for up to one hour! The magnet expires at the end of the hour or after the 3rd capture.

Think of it like a temporary shamrock or elemental that also attracts seasonal specials like the Birthday Comic Book specials. So now if you live in a less populated Munzee area you can increase your chances of capping specials and myths!

Magnetizing a munzee from the app is easy!

  1. Choose the Greenie you want to magnetize.
  2. Go to the Munzee Details page.
  3. Click on the three dots icon in the upper righthand corner.
  4. Click “Magnetize” and confirm.
  5. Wait for the fun to begin!

You can also Magnetize a munzee from the web! 

  1. Go to munzee.com/map
  2. Click on the munzee you want to Magnetize and go to the Munzee’s page
  3. Scroll down and on the lower righthand side is a button that say “Magnetize”
  4. Click confirm and go find that Munzee!

A few things to note:

  • There is a limit of 10 magnets per player account purchased per 10 days.
  • When a Magnetized munzee brings a special or a myth anyone can cap it, so be quick or be nice and share with friends!
  • You’ll be able to Magnetize munzees you have already capped as well as your own munzees since you can cap specials on those.
  • You can see how many Magnets you have on the Credits page of the app or web.
  • Magnets will go on sale in August. Premium Members can expect some magnetic attraction next month too.

Magnet credits are currently exclusive to Physical MunzPak subscribers until they go on sale next month. You’ll receive ten Munzee magnets in your July Physical MunzPak subscription so if you haven’t signed up do it NOW!

Even though the Magnets are currently exclusive to MunzPak subscribers, it’s our birthday so we wanted to share the love a bit. Event hosts who are throwing Munzee Birthday party packages will also have the opportunity to buy Magnets to be used at their events. This will help bring some fun for your Event guests! You need to email Louise if you are interested in adding these to your event but remember she is cycling this weekend so don’t expect an immediate response.

***Event Details Edit*** Magnets may be purchased by event hosts. They are added to the event account only and event pricing is $10 for 10 magnets (maximum of 10 per event account).

Spectacular 6th Birthday Specials!

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been six years since Munzee was launched. It’s surpassed anything the co-founders could have imagined as a game, company, and community. As you probably have noticed, we tend to celebrate, especially our birthday. So take a peek at what we have going on for our Spectacular 6th Birthday!

Specials

Like most 6 year olds, we love comics and superheroes so be prepared to cap special comic books! Starting tomorrow (July 1st) at 00:01 MHQ time, 2011 Spectacular 6th Birthday Special icons will be on the map. These icons will bounce on greenies every 6 hours or when captured.

When captured, these will scatter three onomatopoeia icons within one mile for two hours or until capped.

Each of these are worth 17 Capture points and 11 CapOn points for the host owner. You CAN capture these on your own greenies, and all four specials will count towards the new Specials Badges line.

The scattered icons will also have another surprise. Each of the three icons will award a different badge. Your goal is to collect all three.

When you collect all three of the badges, you will also earn the completed comic book page.

Earned by capturing all three of the scattered icons.

These icons will be on the map until July 31st at 23:59 MHQ time.

Flat Robs and Flat Matts

As we noted in our latest podcast, Flat Robs and Flat Matts will spend quite a bit of time on the map during the month of July:

Flat Robs:

  • 1st-16th
  • 21st-23rd
  • 28th-31st

Flat Matts:

  • 1st-10th
  • 14th-15th
  • 21st-26th
  • 28th-31st

They will also be available in the Munzee Online Store during the month starting tomorrow.
