Announcing June POTM and GOTM Winners! (QRazy Challenge!)

It’s almost a wrap for June, which means we’re just days away from Munzee’s official birthday month! But before we dive into that celebration, it’s time to honor both our June Players of the Month (POTM) and Gardens of the Month (GOTM) winners!

June POTM

June POTM was selected based off player nominations, as we asked you to send in your choices for outstanding clan coordinators. Many players jumped at the opportunity to share their picks for players who step up to the plate and apply their top organizational skills to coordinating Clan Wars. You can find a complete list of the June POTM winners at the end of the blog.  Congratulations to all of these players for being recognized by fellow players for your outstanding leadership skills!

July POTM Requirements

Our July POTM requirements will see Determined Deployers being awarded. Anyone who deploys at least *16 munzees throughout July will earn the following special Player of the Month badge that we have newly updated for July winners:

Per usual, the July POTM badge won’t be awarded until the end of the month, but it is a new badge for Birthday month only. So even if you’ve earned the previous POTM or POTW badges, this will be a new badge to earn! And speaking of earning badges for deploys…

QRazy 8’s Deploy Challenge

It’s time for a community challenge! We challenge you all to help us reach 8,888,888 deploys before the end of the month. From the last deploy count taken on June 25, we are currently at 8,768,683 deploys. If the goal is met by the end of July, anyone who deploys at least 8 munzees of any type during July will earn 1 Virtual, 1 Virtual Color Credit, 1 Urban Fit credit, 1 Physical Capture 2x Booster, as well as the limited edition QRazy 8’s badge!

*Note: Socials and personals are excluded from deploy count and qualification badge for both POTM and the deploy challenge. If the deploy challenge is met, all players who deployed will also earn the Crazy 8’s badge. (All prizes and badges will be awarded at the end of the month.) You people are QRazy, and we love it!

June GOTM

It’s time to recognize some outstanding Virtual Garden builders! While we have lots of exceptional garden nominations to choose from, we’ve been waiting to award our June winners for a little while now! All winning GOTM organizers, as well as all players who deployed in the winning gardens, will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map in one of the funnest ways possible. The June Garden of the month title goes to the Fort Worth Longhorn Garden, organized by denali0407, and Grenaa City’s Coat of Arms, organized by RUJA and Heinerup! You can view the winning gardens below:

Fort Worth Longhorn Garden by denali0407 in Fort Worth, Texas

Some gardens are so beautiful they don’t even need nominations! Everyone at MHQ (and online!) were big fans of this beautiful garden, which was created for Geowoodstock 2019, held in Fort Worth.

Grenaa City’s Coat of Arms by RUJA and Heinerup in Grenaa, Denmark

This very large garden contains more than 3,000 virtuals for a flawless execution by this Danish duo. The garden depicts the coat of arms of the Danish town of Grenaa based on a seal from the early 14th century that depicts a bridge over the Grenaa river. A church stands on either side of the bridge, symbolizing the local church and older chapter, while the stars and crescents represent traditional Christian symbols of the time. This garden is near a very large birthday event taking place July 6 which Matt will be attending.

Did you have the pleasure of deploying in either of this month’s winning gardens? All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Do you know a garden that is worthy of the July GOTM title? We’re asking for players to submit already created gardens for the chance to win any of our upcoming Garden(s) of the Month! Just be sure to follow the rules!

GOTM Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Send your nomination for GOTM to iloveyou@munzee.com! Keep in mind that we take all former nominations into consideration for upcoming months. Just be sure your garden follows the nomination rules in order to be considered eligible!

If you need help deploying in a Virtual Garden, you can check out this step-by-step tutorial that will making deploying in a garden easy no matter how long you’ve been playing. To fill in the gardens, make sure to stock up on Virtuals and Color Credits from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

A big congratulations to all of our POTM and GOTM winners! Keep up that fantastic work, and start deploying July 1 to win prizes during the birthday month!

Pegasus and Faun Myth Variants Join the Map!

Update: The blog has been updated on 6/28/19 to reflect the addition of the virtual Krampus Faun Myth Variant.

Whether you’re soaring into summer or experiencing the winter chill, our brand new Mythological Munzee Variants are here to season your map! Starting at 15:00 MHQ time today, you’ll be able to upgrade both the Pegasus and Faun Mythological Munzees into four new variants! We’ve also restocked certain Player Owned Bouncers in the Freeze Tag Store so click HERE to get yours!

Much like AlternaMyths, the Mythological Munzee Variants are twists on the original Myth types that allow them to bounce to other types of munzees. These variants are only available to Myths that have been “Upgraded.*” You can shop our restocked Mythologicals in the Freeze Tag Online Store for a limited time only. We’ll also be adding Pouch Creatures to the store, but they won’t be around for long! Click the link HERE to pick yours up before they’re gone, and be sure to get your Bouncer Upgrade Credit!

All four of our new variants will have the same point values:

  • Deployment: N/A
  • Capture: 200 Points
  • CapOn: 100 Points

Lastly, before we dive into the new variant details, the Pegasus Myth will also be getting a point increase effective now! The Pegasus Myth will now be worth the regular 200 points for a Myth when captured, as well as 250 deploy points! Now on to the new variants…

Griffin Pegasus

This amalgamation of an Eagle and a Lion soars majestically! This variant of the Pegasus Mythological Munzee flies to the following:

Alicorn Pegasus

The horned Pegasus is ready to take flight! This variant of the Pegasus Mythological Munzee flies to the following:

  • Virtual Munzees
  • Air Mystery Munzees
  • Shamrock Munzees

Centaur Faun

The warrior of the woods is ready for battle! This variant of the Faun Mythological Munzee trots to the following:

Krampus Faun

The frightening friend of Father Christmas will give you chills! This variant of the Faun Mythological Munzee sleds to the following:

Upgrading Your Myth

Once your Myth is upgraded with the Bouncer Upgrade Credit, you can convert it to a new type similar to how you would convert any other type of munzee. Remember that you can only convert a Myth Variant once, and after a Myth has been changed, it cannot go back. Previously known as the Myth Upgrade, the Bouncer Upgrade Credit also allows for the opportunity to “nudge” your Myth to a new munzee up to three times a day in the MHQ 24-hour day after it has sat for three hours. Plus it gives you the opportunity to rename your Myth to something personal and creative!

Points for Variant Myths will remain the same. Variant Myths will also continue counting toward their specific Myth badges just like normal. The only thing that changes with an Upgrade is what it bounces to, as well as a new capture icon in the Specials list.

The new Pegasus and Faun variants join the Unicorn, Fairy, Leprechaun, Mermaid, Dragon, and Yeti Myth Variants. Which variants do you hope to see next? And which variant will you be upgrading to today? Let us know on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

Munzee on!

*The Fairy and Mermaid Mythological Munzee Variants do not require a Bouncer Upgrade Credit to be upgraded.

Coupe du Munzee Quarterfinals Update!

It’s almost time for the third icon adjustment for our Coupe du Munzee specials! Following the Round of 16 game update, which saw eliminated teams reduced to 1 icon each and advancing teams increased to 30 icons each, there will be another map change on Thursday, June 27 at 00:01 MHQ time to mark the Quarterfinals!

As the Women’s World Cup moves into the Quarterfinals, 8 more teams have been eliminated. That means that there will only be 1 physical icon per eliminated team on the map. However, your odds of capping one of the advancing teams just went up! All 8 advancing teams will see their icons increase to 50 per team!

The 8 advancing Coupe du Munzee teams, reflecting the results of the Women’s World Cup, are as follows:

  • Norway
  • England
  • France
  • United States
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Germany
  • Sweden

The following teams have been eliminated in the Round of 16 and reduced to 1 physical icon each:

  • Australia
  • Cameroon
  • Brazil
  • Spain
  • China
  • Japan
  • Nigeria
  • Canada

The following teams were previously eliminated and will remain at 1 icon per team:

  • South Korea
  • South Africa
  • Jamaica
  • Scotland
  • New Zealand
  • Thailand
  • Argentina
  • Chile

Schedule Updates!

While players can be treated to the new icon increase for the time being, keep in mind that only the 4 teams advancing to the Semifinals will remain in abundance on July 2 starting at 00:01 MHQ time. Since we made some updates to allow the eliminated teams to remain on the map with 1 icon a piece (rather than remove them entirely), we’ll provide an updated schedule here:

  • Teams advancing to the Quarterfinals will see an icon increase, while all eliminated teams will be reduced to one icon:
    • June 27 (00:01 MHQ time) – July 1 (23:59 MHQ time)
    • 8 team icons abundant, 16 icons reduced to one per team
  • Teams advancing to the Semifinals will see an icon increase, while all eliminated teams will be reduced to one icon:
    • July 2 (00:01 MHQ time) – July 7 (23:59 MHQ time)
    • 4 team icons abundant, 20 icons reduced to one per team

That means that all teams who make it to the final two matches will remain on the map from July 2 until the conclusion of the Coupe du Munzee specials on July 7 at 23:59 MHQ time, at which point all icons will leave the map. However, after the Coupe du Munzee specials leave the map, we will have a special surprise celebration for the winning icon! Stay tuned for more details!

How many Coupe du Munzee badges have you earned so far? Hopefully your team is still in the race!

July Resolutions Are Here!

While you still have a few days left in June to put your iced coffee money in your savings account for June Resolutions, we’re already looking to the future for our July Resolutions badge! From eating healthy to traveling more, our monthly Capture Streak badges have been centered around a year of personal improvement. As summer heats up on the Northern Hemisphere, this month we challenge players to lose weight (if you need to for your health)!

Even Santa is working on his “summer bod”

Each month’s unique badge is dedicated to accomplishing another New Year’s Resolution. Like our Super Streak badges, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one Munzee* each day for the entire month. The monthly Capture Streak badges allow for the chance to work towards a different goal each month in order to bring about a year of positive growth and change.

Losing Weight for Health

While folks on the Southern Hemisphere might be bundling up, the Northern Hemisphere is well into bathing suit season. And for many, the rise in temperature is accompanied by a heightened dissatisfaction with one’s physical appearance. Weight loss, however, shouldn’t be something that is appearance based. It might sound cheesy, but if you’re asking yourself “do I have a summer body?” the answer is “do you have a body?” If you say “yes,” then you’re all ready to hit the beach!

While it’s crucial to accept your body as is, that doesn’t mean that you can neglect your health. If your weight is impacting your health, then it’s time to lose weight the right way in order to feel better and increase your longevity. Rather than gravitate towards a fad diet or “lose weight quick” scheme, the two main components of weight loss are diet and exercise. The number one reason why diets fail is because they are unsustainable. By changing your lifestyle choices permanently, you will never again have to grapple with the disappointments of “yo-yo dieting.” Just be sure to find a healthy meal plan that works best for YOU.

While counting calories can lead to unhealthy behaviors, it is beneficial to be aware of factors such what you eat, how much you eat, when you eat, and how often you eat. Keeping a food journal, or tracking your food intake on one of the many helpful dieting apps, can help you become more aware of what you put into your body so that you can make more informed dining choices.

When it comes to staying active, the playing field is unfortunately not even. However, if you have underlying medical issues that are prohibiting weight loss, you can still set daily goals for yourself. We are so proud of how many players have achieved monumental fitness accomplishments, especially after many have shared their stories of chronic physical disabilities and illnesses that they refuse to allow to hold them back. Remember, the only person you have to compete with when it comes to fitness is yourself. Focus on personal growth rather than comparing yourself to others, and remember that health is always the goal.

Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

Play YOUR Way! Map Split and Leaderboard UPDATES!

Did you catch our latest videocast? You can listen to Rob and Matt discussing the new updates HERE!

Today we have a very special announcement! The Virtual and Physical Maps have officially been separated into two distinct playing areas. The proximity limits for virtual munzees will no longer affect physical deploys, and vice versa. This exciting over-the-air update is live as of the publication of this blog!

Play Your Way

Previously if a virtual was deployed in an area, a physical could not be deployed within its proximity, and vice versa. Now players have the opportunity to expand deploys in their area with even more physical and virtual munzees! Munzee has always been about letting everyone “Play Your Way,” and this latest update will allow players to do just that! You can now choose to focus solely on physical or virtual gameplay, or continue doing both with ease. Customize the filters in your app with easy adjustments to display physical and virtual Munzees however you like!

We have also added a small update to the online maps to allow players to toggle between physical and virtual munzees as well. This will be handy for players deploying virtuals from the online map. Additionally, there is a slight change to the Destination line of munzees. This map split will uncouple proximity checks between Virtual Resorts and Timeshares. Resort proximity will only be blocked by other Resorts (or other virtual types), and Timeshares will only be blocked by other Timeshares, Motels, and Hotels (or other physical types).

To help you fill in all the new spots for deploying, we’re hosting a “Play Your Way Summer Sale” in the Freeze Tag Online Store starting at 15:00 MHQ today! There will be deals on a number of physical and virtual products. It’s also the first day of summer/winter, so blocks of Seasonal Munzees will be on sale, and they have also been added to the PinPoints store! Check out the entire “Play Your Way!” collection HERE when the sale goes live!

Follow The Leader(boards)!

We have another big update alongside the map split— the leaderboards! We now have a variety of different leaderboard options to showcase the skills of different gameplay styles. This new update includes the creation of Virtual and Physical leaderboards, as well as daily, monthly*, and yearly leaderboards for each type. You can see a breakdown of each leaderboard type below, but all leaderboards are accessible from both the web** and mobile app.

On the mobile app, simply toggle the various dropdown menus to see the desired leaderboard. You can choose between different leaderboards for Munzee Type, Points Earned, and Time Period. These new leaderboards are only visible in the latest version of the V4 Munzee app via an over-the-air update. (If you haven’t received it yet, try restarting the Munzee app!)

On the web, simply choose the leaderboard you would like to see from the dropdown menu on the upper righthand side. Once you choose the leaderboard you want to view, you can also toggle “This Month” to show “Last Month” and “This Year” to show “Overall” leaderboards.

To see the Munzee web leaderboards, go HERE.

Split Leaderboards by Munzee Type:

  • All Types
  • Physicals Only
  • Virtuals Only

Split Leaderboards by Points Type:

  • Total Score
  • Captures Only
  • Deploys Only
  • CapOns Only

Split Leaderboards by Time Period:

  • Today (Premium Members Only)
  • Yesterday
  • This Month
  • Last Month
  • This Year
  • Overall

Reap The Rewards!

With new leaderboards also come all new leaderboard badges! With so many different leaderboard types, we plan on continuing to release exclusive badges as the year goes on. To start off, we have new leaderboard badges for the following:

Monthly Leaderboard Badges:

Virtual Daily Leaderboard Badges:

Physical Daily Leaderboard Badges:

The next line of badges, coming soon, will be for Daily Capture, Deploy, and CapOn leaderboards! There are hundreds of different badge possibilities, so always stay tuned for more information!

We hope you all take this opportunity to grow the game to new heights, both around the world and in your own backyard. The time is now to Play Your Way, so get out there and GO!

Munzee on!

*Please note that though “Last Month” leaderboard will show upon launch, players will not earn badges for it until the end of the month.
**Access to the current daily leaderboard is only available to Premium players, so that leaderboard is only accessible via the app. Players can still see yesterday’s daily leaderboard on the web.

Round of 16 Means Coupe du Munzee Updates!

The Coupe du Munzee specials have been on the map for two weeks now, which means it’s time for an update! The Coupe du Munzees will officially be changing in quantity on Saturday, June 22 at 00:01 MHQ time based on the advancement of teams in the Women’s World Cup!

Though we started out with 24 icons for each of the 24 teams in the Women’s World Cup, we told you that we’d be removing icons from the map as teams became eliminated in real life. However, we have decided to leave 1 physical icon per team for the 8 eliminated teams on the map. That means if you need a losing team icon to complete a badge, there’s still hope to be had!

While the 8 eliminated teams will have their original quantity of 11 physical icons reduced to 1 each, the 16 advancing teams will see their physical icons increase from 11 to 30. Are these numbers a bit overwhelming? Overall you can look forward to a grand total of 488 Coupe du Munzee specials on the map, for an overall increase of 54 percent in Coupe du Munzee specials! However, it will now become much more challenging to cap eliminated team icons.

The advancing Coupe du Munzee teams, reflecting the results of the Women’s World Cup, are as follows:

  • Germany
  • Nigeria
  • Norway
  • Australia
  • England
  • Cameroon
  • France
  • Brazil
  • Spain
  • USA
  • Sweden
  • Canada
  • Italy
  • China PR
  • Netherlands
  • Japan

That means that the following teams have been eliminated in the Women’s World Cup and reduced to 1 physical icon each:

  • South Korea
  • South Africa
  • Jamaica
  • Scotland
  • New Zealand
  • Thailand
  • Argentina
  • Chile

Updates!

Remember that though there will be an increase in the number of icons per winning team, as well as overall increase in the amount of specials, not all teams icons will remain abundant for long. Starting on June 27, only the teams advancing to the Quarterfinals will see an increase, while all eliminated teams will be reduced to 1 icon per team. (Need a refresher on when Coupe du Munzee icons change on the map? Check out the last blog!)

The special double points days for Flat Friends and German Coupe du Munzee specials will NOT continue on into the Round of 16. However, there are still 7 badges that players can earn along the way.

Capping the Coupe du Munzee specials might not be the easiest feat, but either is being a professional athlete! It’s a great time to use your physical Munzee Magnets, because there will be more specials to be capped by all players starting on Saturday!
