Event Spotlight: Munzee Mania 2019

While Munzee can certainly be a solo game if you choose, there’s no denying the appeal in meeting others who share your interests. Munzee Events are perhaps the best example of this, as they allow you to meet both old and new players in a safe, friendly environment. On top of that, there are usually activities, games, and — if you’re lucky — goodie bags! That being said, planning events requires a considerable amount of effort. So, to make it easier for prospective hosts (and maybe even recurring hosts), we decided to put the spotlight on past events, Munzee-Toolkit style! We hope this series of posts will inspire you to try hosting an event if you never have before, or provide you with ideas to spice up future events if you’re an old hand at it!

Today we’re featuring the Munzee Mania 2019 event, which took place on May 4, 2019 at Eagan, MN and was hosted by loeschfamily, valsey, GreenHeron, and Wrasln.

Have a Magical Weekend with Mythological Mayhem!

To give the new Mythological Munzee Variants a warm welcome, we decided to make them the focus of this month’s ZEE-Dayz! Starting on 00:01 MHQ on Friday May 22, you will receive 2X the points on ALL activity on Leprechaun, Mermaid, Cyclops, and Nymph munzees — and of course, their variants are included in this as well! This bonus will last until 23:59 MHQ on Monday May 25!

We hope these bonuses add a little sparkle to both old and new Mythological Munzee friends! Remember that they can all land in Treehouse munzees if you’re unable to hunt them down in the wild, and some of them can also land in the newly-released Skyland munzee as well! Check the Help Guide for specifics!

Event Spotlight: Covid-19 Påske Special

Today we’re featuring the Covid-19 Påske Special event, which took place on April 6, 2020 at Hobro, Denmark and was hosted by Primdahl, KalashniKitty, RosendalKFUM, XH558.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

I am a lucky Munzee Player – but we will return to that.

Louise asked if I wanted to tell about my last event “Covid-19 Easter Special” (https://www.munzee.com/m/event1585935939), because I actually managed to carry out an event despite the shutdown and quarantine.

My first thought was that no one would be bothered to hear about The Dullest Event in the World, and that I probably just would get banned since that is not the idea of events at all, but hopefully I can help inspire some of you to try something similar.

In Denmark it is forbidden to gather more than 10 people so far, and you have to keep 2 meters away from others in the public space, but since events first are automatically archived after one week, there is ample opportunity to scan munzees separately, at different times.

Let’s start with the practical execution. It has become very easy to create an event today and Spring/Easter Events were no exception. I chose the package without distance restrictions and with 20 virtual munzees ( they do not infect 😉 ). The virtual munzees were placed so that they could all be reached from the parking lot in case of bad weather and the QR codes for the Event Pin and Event Badge were placed in the window of the local Scout House so they could be scanned from the outside.

I usually organize an event in Hobro every month, so in the Event Description and in one of the Danish Munzee Facebook Groups I wrote that the event would be carried out, but under other conditions than we usually do. That the participants could come in pairs and scan the Event Munzees and take a walk in the area where many of you are really good at deploying Temporary Virtuals (thank you very much) and that if you should happen to meet other players at the same time, you had to follow common sense and the instructions of the authorities to limit the risk of infection.

Eskiss – Covid-19 Påske Special

There was also the opportunity to take part in the competition for the most “springy” outfit, by taking a selfie with the Scout House in the background and emailing the picture to me.

There were more than 60 players participating in the event over Easter – and now I return to why I consider myself a lucky Munzee Player and Event Host. I am fortunate to live in an area with many active Munzee Players, some very dedicated but also many “casuals” and I am lucky because there is always great support for my events where players from many social strata and vastly different backgrounds meet in a nice community about our hobby. So, of course, the Players, my Friends, should not be cheated for an event in April — although it turned out to be The Dullest Event in the World 😉

So dear Event Hosts out there, support your local players and throw an event!

And dear Players, support your local Event Hosts and participate in their Events!

Take care of yourself and each other!

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

Coffee and Cake – Spend more time socializing than Munzee’ing.

Take your time to help new players getting into the Game and having a good time.

What made your event unique?

It was carried out despite the Covid-19/Corona shutdown and quarantine.

Would you like to highlight any future events you’re hosting?

There will be an Event in the beginning of each month (or actually Clan War) in Hobro — everyone is welcome.

Don’t hesitate to ask if you need help organizing your stay.

Thank you to Primdahl for being such a great host and submitting the details for this event! We will be reaching out to other past event hosts in the future, so keep an eye on your inbox!

Fall Into Spring Best Dressed Gallery

On Saturday we posted the entries we’ve received for Fall into Spring Best Dressed so far! As social media posts limit the amount of characters we can use, we wanted to take this opportunity to expand on a few points, and display the usernames of the featured players as well. As we receive more entries, we’ll update this post!

If you’ll be attending an event soon and need a refresher, our requirements for Fall into Spring Best Dressed nominations were released on the blog post HERE. As you can see, these players have met those requirements by dressing according to the season at their event, and there’s even a fun Leprechaun costume!

You’ll also notice that these photos were either taken at a distance, taken at a distance and zoomed in, or were self-taken (selfie!). This is a great example of how Munzee event hosts and attendees are being sensitive to and complying with current orders regarding COVID-19. Everybody’s situation is different, and while many hosts have (understandably) rescheduled their events, there have also been great new event ideas from hosts who’ve decided to stick to their event dates while altering the format of their events for safety purposes. We will be releasing a new Event Spotlight post this week featuring such an event, so stay tuned!

As a reminder, to thank our event hosts for working with us during these confusing times we put together a special badge just for them. The Untimely Unicorn badge was awarded to all Fall into Spring Hosts earlier in the month, which we announced on our social media accounts (Facebook | Twitter | Instagram). Thank you again to everyone for their patience!

Best Dressed Fall into Spring Events Contest Details!

With the first Fall into Spring events kicking off this weekend*, we can’t wait to see how players celebrate the change in season! Similar to last year’s 8zees Best Dressed Contest, the event host will choose a winner at each event based on best themed attire. Event attendees will have 2 of 3 outfit options:

  • if it’s Spring where the event is being held, consider dressing in a Spring-themed outfit, e.g. florals, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, etc.
  • likewise, if it’ll be Fall where the event is being held, consider dressing in a Fall-themed outfit, e.g. leaves, golden and jewel tones, in-season fruits and vegetables
  • if you’re game for a more challenging option, consider dressing as one of the Mythological Munzees, such as those that appear on the Fall into Spring Event Package badges, or take inspiration from our staff members below!

L to R: Mari, hunniees, and Tamara at Registration Night for MH-Boo Bash! Mari is dressed as a Rainbow Unicorn while Tamara is dressed as a Pegasus.

It’s the event hosts’ responsibility to decide which attendee will win the Best Dressed badge. In order to earn the special badge for winning this costume contest, the event host must submit an entry to our Google Form, which we will provide to each host. Unfortunately we will not be able to award any Best Dressed badges without a form submission, so be sure to get them in! You can see the artwork for the badge below!

Featuring another ethereal goddess, Trish, who is responsible for a lot of our event artwork! She and Louise are a dynamic Event Goddess duo!

We’ll share some of our favorite player outfits to the official Munzee social media pages throughout March and April, but the badge will not be awarded until after the events have wrapped up. Then we’ll add all of the winners to a gallery on the Munzee Blog to announce when the badge has been awarded!

Don’t forget there’s still time to purchase Fall into Spring Event Packages, but Trish’s diary is filling up so if you want custom artwork you better act fast! Remember that we’ve extended the period for Fall into Spring Events up to and including the month of May! For those hosting events in the coming weeks please remember to use caution and follow local guidelines in regards to health concerns.

We’ve got an exciting season ahead of us, so stay tuned!

Munzee on!

*Event safety is up to the host of each event. Please follow community COVID-19 guidelines.

Munzee Event Safety Concerns

Like many around the world, we have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation. Although our real-world adventure game encourages players to explore the areas around them, the safety of our players is of paramount importance.

At this moment we are not canceling any Munzee Events that hosts have put so much time and effort into planning. We instead will be extending the Fall Into Spring event time frame through May 31st, or later if necessary. So any themed event packages purchased can be rescheduled to a different time during this period. As always please reach out to Events Manager Louise Gibson by emailing her at events@munzee.com for all of your event needs.

We encourage hosts and players alike to use caution in the weeks to come regarding their own personal safety. We urge you all to stay safe and follow local guidelines in regards to large event gatherings.

Regular gameplay can still be enjoyed around the world, but we do caution those in areas with higher risk of COVID-19 to use their best judgment when playing. Clan Wars will continue as planned, so we suggest players communicate with one another to help grow virtual gameplay for those worried about safety in their area.

We thank you all for your support of our game. Our mission has always been to build community through active gameplay, but above all we must keep player safety as a top priority. We will continue to reassess the situation in the weeks to come. Stay safe and Munzee on.

Event Spotlight: Weston Super Munzees

Today we’re featuring the Weston Super Munzees event, which took place on April 8, 2018 at The Old Colonial in Weston-Super-Mare, UK and was hosted by nuttynan, Lizeb, lankyspanky, and TheJenks7.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

I had just moved to Weston and wanted to grow the map as there were very few Munzees there. I concentrated on deploying Water, Prize Wheels and Flats clusters to encourage players to deploy and cap as well. The Flats deploys were particularly prolific as it was a double points weekend. These clusters enticed more and more players to attend. Plus I did a free prize draw for host places for all those who attended (I paid for the entire event myself). Although the Initial cost was quite a lot the subsequent deploys from players all over the world became the basis of the massive Munzee presence the Weston-Super-Mare now has.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

Build the map by doing clusters of certain types of physicals and virtuals so players can easily see what can be capped in big numbers. Also offering a prize draw for host places is always popular and brings more players to an event.

What made your event unique?

Seaside location with brand new deploys in huge clusters, so no one had capped them.

We are celebrating Weston’s links with helicopters history and chasing little helicopters around the streets beside the famous Helicopter Museum (NOT on the museum grounds or airfield).

There are huge numbers of Airs and Joysticks (with the resulting number of scatter types to chase after as well). We welcome any type of deploys in and around the event venue and the obvious “loops” which indicate where the event icons may be deployed. https://www.munzee.com/map/gcjuj4xqj/15.5

Thank you to nuttynan for being such a great host and submitting the details for this event! We will be reaching out to other past event hosts in the future, so keep an eye on your inbox!

Finding A Munzee Event Near You Has Never Been Easier!

Munzee Events have proven time and time again to be a great way to maintain the wonderful player community and to grow the game by introducing it to new players. As we’ve said before, one of our goals this year is to make Munzee Events easier for both hosts and attendees. We’ve taken steps toward that for hosts with our line of Event Spotlight blog posts, so now it’s time for us to do the same for attendees!

We’re excited to announce that you’ll now be able to check out Munzee Events near you and more in our latest over-the-air (OTA) update!

Munzee Events List Updates

One feature we’ve always wanted to improve in the app was the Events area. If you aren’t sure what we’re talking about, here’s a quick tutorial — tap on the Hamburger Menu and then tap on [Munzee Events].

We decided to take the best of both worlds! The current version of the app was designed to show much more helpful information than the Event Indicator pin’s munzee details. Now, the app displays the same information displayed on the Munzee Calendar, combined with the old way of showing the Event Indicator pin’s location. The list now shows the following:

  • Name of the event
  • Date of the event
  • Time of the event
  • A button to take you to the Munzee Calendar details

Additionally, events are now ordered in the list by date and time, which should be helpful for days with a series of events, such as the recent SunCoast and OzDayZee events, or the upcoming Munzee Madness 9 events! Distance-wise, events up to 500 miles away will appear in the list, in case you feel like taking a LONG drive!

Event Details Screenshot

Munzee Events Details Updates

We also updated what happens when you tap on an Event Indicator in the list to view its details. Along with the name, date, and time of the event, there is also:

  • A link out to the Munzee Calendar so you can easily mark whether you’re attending the event
    • NOTE: You’ll need to log into your Munzee account on the Calendar page for this to go through!
  • The address of the event location
  • Any extra details provided by the event host

As before, you can use the [Map] button to jump to the Event Indicator pin’s location on the map. This makes it easy to check if you’ve deployed any munzees nearby so you can rack up the points once the event takes place!

We hope this makes it much easier to find an event to look forward to, to pencil in some time for Munzee in your busy schedule, and to find more Munzee players nearby!

If you are a prospective Event Host, we hope this gives you a push in the right direction, as it should be much easier for people to find out about your event! Don’t forget that we are currently offering Spring Event packages if you want to match with our current theme!

Meet The New Girl + Heartbreaker Prize Weekend + Virtual Capture Booster Release!

If you’re looking forward to a Munzee-filled Valentine’s Day Weekend, we have some extra surprises for you that’ll spice things up including an addition to the Heartbreaker Family!
Exciting Update: ALL Heartbreakers will also land on Treehouses through Monday morning!

Green Heartbreaker Munzee

The Yellow Heartbreaker Munzee didn’t like being the third wheel, so we’re excited to introduce the new girl in town, the Green Heartbreaker Munzee! If you’d like to make her yours, she is available at the Freeze Tag Online Store as an individual product! That’s right, you can now have up to four different Heartbreaker types bouncing around the map!

This new temp POB will be available for purchase for $5 from now until 10:00 MHQ on Tuesday Feb 18th. Each player can purchase up to two Green Heartbreakers each day they are available, which will come in handy for our Heartbreaker Prize Weekend… but more on that in a bit!

Like the other Heartbreakers, the Green Heartbreaker is a temporary POB. Similar to her main squeeze, the Yellow Heartbreaker, she will bounce to both physical and virtual munzees. She will stay on the map until 23:59 MHQ on March 31, when she will be automatically archived on your account. If you’ve ever deployed a Butterfly or Frog Evolution munzee, these will behave similarly with a few exceptions.

  • Deploy: 214 points
  • Capture: 214 points
  • CapOn: 100 points

While she may be a wallflower, she can blossom into the belle of the ball if she’s treated right! This shy and sweet Heartbreaker Munzee tiptoes to the following:

  • Greenies
  • All colors of Virtuals
  • Temporary Virtuals
  • Premium Munzees
  • Diamond
  • Ruby
  • Aquamarine
  • Topaz
  • Pink Diamond
  • Emerald (V)
  • Amethyst (V)
  • Sapphire (V)

Like her fellow Heartbreakers, she will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture a Heartbreaker on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Heartbreaker visits you. However, Heartbreakers are non-blastable. They will be attracted to Physical Magnets on Greenies and Virtual Magnets on all colors of Virtual Munzees. You can access Heartbreakers under the “Only Expiring Specials” filter.

Badges

All players who purchase a Green Heartbreaker will also receive the respective deploy badge shown below:

Now that all of the couples are together the real party can start! There is also a new capture badge anyone can earn that includes the Green Heartbreaker! The badge appears as follows:

Heartbreakers- Capture one of each type of Heartbreaker Munzee.

Virtual Capture Booster

What better way to boost your hearts this holiday season than with the release of the Virtual Capture Booster Credits! This booster was previously not available anywhere in our app or in our online store, as it is perhaps the most powerful of the four Boosters. We wanted to keep its use in check, but for a limited time Virtual Capture Boosters will be available as prizes from capturing Heartbreaker Munzees!

Weekend Bonuses!

To complement the release of this newest booster, we decided to let the other 3 come out to play as well! This weekend, when a Heartbreaker Temporary POB is captured, both capper and deployer have a chance to earn a Booster Credit or a Sapphire Munzee in addition to their usual points. This includes the all NEW Virtual Capture Booster!

This special bonus will last from 00:01 on Feb 14 until 23:59 on Feb 16. Capping a Heartbreaker doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a prize, so try to cap as many Heartbreakers as you can this weekend! Remember, alongside the Green Heartbreaker you can get a Yellow, Pink, and Red Heartbreaker in the three respective MunzPaks to increase your chances of getting a prize! They will all stay on the map until the end of March.

We hope you won’t get a heart attack chasing after these mischievous Munzees!

Munzee On!
