Player of the Week: Jason Numbers (Jasnumbs)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Jason Numbers (Jasnumbs).

image2Who are you?

My name is Jason Numbers. My gamertag is Jasnumbs (I bet you are smart enough to see why). Yet, I am not just an individual in Munzee. I am truly part of an amazing clan made up of some special people. They are the reason I love this game. They include my core group of Minnie213, Freecyclestacy, and disneyfan4life85. Also, nuttynan, blanchards3, 3Blanchards, iamdeana, AbbyPP, and AwesomeMini3B3. So, in short, if you really want to know who I am… I am a Wilderness Explorer.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Massachusetts. It is truly a center for Munzee in the New England area. We are constantly getting together for Munzee events with a close group of amazing players. We are blessed to have amazing players like jayterho, Bugeye59, Bandyrooster, Jt75, Sasquatchman, shellshell, utilitymanjoe, tbygate, halyard, and may more (too many to mention here). It is because of these players that I got into the game and enjoy playing every day.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing munzee for 801 days. It has been quite the fun ride to this point. I have seen so many elements added to the game in that time. I love seeing the new icons on the map and get such a rush hunting to add them to my specials. I especially loved the rock-paper-scissor munzee added (with the help 2dld26 a player from my area!) and the urban skins that came into the game with the help of none other then freecyclestacy!!!!!

image1

How did you find Munzee?
I have two young children and at the time we brought them into our family we weimage3re looking for activities that would get them outside and would keep us entertained. This lead to us playing another popular geolocation game where people find containers with items to exchange. Well one of these containers contained a qr code. We downloaded a qr scanner which lead us to pick up munzee and we have been hooked ever since. One of my happiest memories was when my 2 year old started finding qr codes in the woods before we did. It was unforgettable the way his face would light up when he heard the beep (this used to happen everytime you captured a munzee).

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
As you can tell already, there are many things I enjoy about munzee. The two most important is the community in my area and the ability to play with my family. Our events are full of great people getting together to enjoy conversations, capture tons of points and get new icons and badges (I love adding the amazing artwork to my wall of specials and badges). Finally, I also cannot tell you how special the time on the trails have been with my family. The happiness I see in my children while playing and the picturesque views we have encountered have been truly wonderful. Munzee takes you to places you have never been and would likely not have gone if not for the game.

What is on your wish list?
My wish list is to see special ops come into the game. There was discussion about this in the past and I was really excited about it, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside. These were described as individual daily goals to work towards. I even had an idea that I submitted to munzee called the yin/yang munzee. One whose icon could be white or black and it could be changed by the individual capturing it. This could add a whole new level competition within the game and could even be tied into the daily goals I mentioned.

Other hobbies include:
Gaming of any kind, board games, PC games, console games, geolocation games and more

Any last words?
Thank you to all who submitted my name to be player of the week. Thank you to the amazing players and community in my area for building the game and making it special.

Munzee Player of the Week: Hazel Cutting (cuttingcrew)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Hazel Cutting (cuttingcrew).

DSC_0250 [30454]Who are you?

My name is Hazel Cutting, but on Munzee, I am better known as cuttingcrew.

Where in the world do you live?
In the historic city of Norwich, Norfolk, UK. There are many pubs and churches (there used to be  a pub for everyday and a church for every week!), lots of shops, a Norman castle, 2 cathedrals and 2 Munzee clans in our area… plus a few of my virtual gardens 😀

How long have you played Munzee?
My first capture was on the 6th November 2014. It was Colegate (a place in the city … not the toothpaste!) by itsonlyme. I then went and followed the norfolktrails pink greenies at the time, by the end of the first day I had capped 87 points! Just under 2 years, but started my clan The Mighty Norwich City Clan in March 2015. I still take my daughter with me, and now, she is old enough to help me spot the munzees on our walks!

How did you find Munzee?12376649_10153677049908003_5173555215824849342_n [30456]
Through norfolktrails. I went to the library and saw them outside promoting their Munzee trail…… that day I was hooked! Instead of the 45 minutes walk of the trail I walked 2 hours finding local deploys. I even got the odd virtual too!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?

Finding new friends and people to meet! Meeting the president and Louise at our 4th Birthday event last year 😀 Also, the new game pieces to collect and deploy for others. Attending events and meeting other fellow inmates of the Munzee madness. Getting my entire family hooked on Munzee.. the latest being my niece! I love my rovers going on their long walks across the globe with other players – I have got them to level 11 so far. The seasonal specials, as I am writing this my husband has gone out to cap a present on one of mine near by.

What is on your wish list?
To win the lottery, then travel around the world capping and deploying  – especially all the emerald pin gardens. Visiting the MHQ store and spending…. quite a bit! Mostly to attend more events around the UK and eventually more abroad too!

I also would love a 10 ft Lego statue of a red dragon…. just because dragons are awesome!

I wish there was another mythical nomad  –  a Phoenix, that like the Dragon Munzee is attracted to the Fire Mysteries or greenies.

10413436_10153146009783003_4577324942657585663_n [30455]Tell us about yourself:
I am a wife and mother to a small young lady (3 going on 13!).

I grew up on an Island in Essex, no palm trees, just sand, sea, shells and typical British wet weather. I moved up to Norfolk after meeting husband at an International Scout and guide camp. I used to do a lot of Guiding  – from Rainbows to Senior section as well as music qualifications.

I am a nursery nurse (working with children) and a part time steward at events in the city.

I am an avid Terry Pratchett fan as well as the good old classics like  Lord of The Rings, The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy …. my house has many bookcases bursting at the seams!

I love arts and crafts – I can often be seen knitting or sewing. I love up cycling scraps and turning them into something beautiful.

I love going out and exploring the city and other parts of the world. The furthest I have ever been is Venice or Detroit. I recently went to London again.

Other hobbies include:
I love playing and listening to music – clarinet and saxophone (grade 7 and 6 for these!) . I have recently spent every spare moment knitting my daughter a single bed size blanket  – I have 2 months to go before her birthday to sew the squares together and sew on the decorations. As a family we often go to museums, parks, city events, steam railways, and once we have been to the sea where I grew up near by!

I love learning new things and cant sit still and do nothing.

Player of the Week: Thorsten Linn (TrialbyFire)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Thorsten Linn (TrialbyFire).

IMG-20160416-WA0002Who are you?

I am TrialbyFire, the man with the dragon socials. My real name is Thorsten. I am 38, and I am going to marry my fiancé, Raphaela (MunzeeAssistentin) on July 30th.I am quite excited about that. Deploys in Speyer as a present are very welcome 😉 .(Editor’s Note: We’re sorry for the delay in posting, but congratulations!)

Where in the world do you live?
I live in a small village in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis in Germany near the worldknown cities Heidelberg, Mannheim, and Speyer. They are known for their castles, their huge US, French, and English army bases, and especially Speyer for it’s famous cathedral. All the cities existed in the medieval times, so they are quite nice to explore by foot while finding some munzees, of course 😉 .

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing at the beginning of February 2012. I think it was the third. At the time, JOK was the number 1 player in the world with around 29k. I thought I could never reach that in a long time…

How did you find Munzee?
My former work colleague and friend MV1 introduced me to it. He played the game with the plastic cans which I never did, and he told me about it. I downloaded the app and was hooked. A couple of days later, I found my first special — the Valentine heart. I think I was one of the first players to start playing Munzee without experience in the other game. Then, MV1 and I began greening our suburb and touring around. Our first tour was 90km one way to get out first thousand points around Mainz. It took us about 6 hours, and we walked around 20km that day. Yeah, it was hard work then!

IMG-20160715-WA0009

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I like the competing moments and check the leaderboard and statistics several times a day — whether I can gain or lose places or how often my munzees have been captured. But now, it is hard to climb the ladder due to more people buying their way to the top rather than capturing it. 30k captures and 3 million points is kind of unsatisfactory for players capping only greenies at the beginning and walking and driving to capture a lot every month now.

I also like collecting all kinds of special icons and badges, and I am willing to drive some distance to capture them. I like travelling, exploring parts of towns besides the tourist spots, and meeting local players. I always leave some munzees behind because I am nosy and want to know who captures them: only local players or people travelling through Germany as much as me. My next trip will be to Edinburgh/Scotland, so there will be some more munzees there in August.

But the best part is that I meet very nice people who are my friends now: my clanmates from the now 5 German Gluers clans (despite the name, we have American and English clan members, too) where I am a clan coordinator, my Berlin Munzee friends (disc220, JackSparrow, etc) where my fiancé is from, people from the Black Forest region (bvaral) where I did my second study, my co-organizers for the events here, Cosmo, and the players from the Schwoaba Munzee Clan (teamkiwi, remstaler, Meize, etc). and of course, c-bn, who is a regular visitor at our events, with whom I did my first 100k day walking through London and after that, meeting Rob and Louise and many morenice people at the event at Clapham Common. It was really a great day!

I am glad now that Munzee had developed into a self-contained game with mixing the other game. Thank you MHQ staff for that!

What is on your wish list?

  1. I want the game to be as fair as it can be, so limits on special and charity sales, eg. 150 per person so people do not get 800k in a day by sitting at home doing nothing.
  2. I would like the game to become more virtual due to easier accessibility in regions outside big cities, and of course, due to the lack of possibilities to deploy munzees within the cities. All of the good spots are gone, so let’s use parks without using trees, benches, or rotten wood, and let use use the huge housing blocks to grow the map.
  3. A second Emerald Garden in Germany. We Germans have been great supporters since the beginning and we only have one garden in Berlin. I think we deserve another one, BUT it should not be built near the big Munzee regions. Please, put it where a smaller community plays to attract new players from outside and help grow this region. I would like it best near or in Frankfurt/Main where we have the biggest airport in Germany, and it is great to be reached by train and car, as well.
  4. I would like to see at lease one staff member come over to our event on the German National Holiday on October 3rd in Ludwigshafen so we have the chance to meet you (again). Everyone is wholeheartedly welcome, of course! 🙂
  5. If another Mythological Munzee is released, turn the tables around and let the players with all three up to now buy the first to fill their collection.

Tell us about yourself:
Actually, I am a secondary school teacher for English, Latin, and Catholic religious studies, but I did another study in Social Work after that, and now, I work for the youth welfare services, driving through my administrative district helping families, especially children of course, within the range of school, diseases (e.g. ADHS, autism, etc), disabilities, administrative problems, education, etc.

I live with my soon-to-be wife in a little house with a garden in a small village with our 4 guinea pigs and my beloved fish tank.

IMG-20150825-WA0000

Other hobbies include:
I am a huge TV series junkie and a huge fan of Fantasy Fiction, which includes my favorite authors Robin Hobb and George R.R. Martin (read the books first, then watch Game of Thrones).

My biggest hobby is football (soccer). I am a huge football fan, not especially fanatic for one club (I support FC Bayern München), but I love discussing it with like-minded people. I was a football trainer for many years, and I like teaching kids both football tactics and social skills together. I built a girls section in my former football club, and now, the girls have played for six years. I like seeing their development from being strangers to a close group of friends and becoming one team. Unfortunately, with my new job, it is hard to train a team again due to it not being a 9 to 5 job.

I like Scotch Whiskey as well, and I have a small but delicious collection at home (about 20 bottles) which will be bigger after my holidays in Edinburgh 😉

IMG-20160715-WA0005Any last words?
I want to thank the person who nominated me for this. I was really surprised and never expected it because I do not do special things at all.

I’d like to thank MHQ for their good work: Clan Wars are always interesting, we get cool artwork for our events and special icons, we have excellent support during our events, and we are happy with your great ideas that keep the game interesting for everyone.

At last, my favorite quote from Marin Luther King, which everyone should think about:

“We are prone to judge success by the index of our salaries or the size of our automobiles rather than by the quality of our service and relationship to mankind.”

Player of the Week: Pekka Lavi (RePe)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Pekka Lavi (RePe).

2015-07-29 19.44.47Who are you?
My name is Pekka Lavi, known in Munzee as RePe. When I started playing Munzee, I created mu username with my wife Reetta, so RePe is mixture of our first names. We have used it for our team for 10 years. RePe is in English is Daffy, and you can find Daffy Duck in my profile picture. My wife created her own Munzee account about 2 years ago, and I still play this family name.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Lieto, Finland with my wife and son. Lieto is a little town in Western Finland.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing on July 27th 2013 after a caching event. I started playing seriously in December 2013 when I joined a local clan. Since then, I have been playing actively. I have played in 32 Clan War in a row.

How did you find Munzee?
First, I read it in Finland’s caching webpages forum, and at the caching event, I saw it live and created an account there. In 2013, there were not many munzees in the Lieto area, but nowadays there are a lot of munzees to capture and many active players.

33735_1563506844317_3588209_n

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I like to be outdoors and seek new places with my family. It is also fun to go in the evening or night for a little walk or bicycle ride to capture Mythologicals or special munzees nearby, I have also met many great new people through Munzee.

What is on your wish list?

  1. I love the badges, so I hope for more to come (especially more badges for physical munzees like Scatter, Jewels, RPS, etc.)
  2. A Munzee holiday with my family in a large Munzee city.
  3. Change the Accessibility Munzee to be equivalent to the Greenie for all bouncing special types.
  4. Rob coming to Finland

Tell us about yourself:2015-08-07 10.38.42
I’m a 34-year-old science teacher in the upper comprehensive school and an ICT pedagogical consultant in the city. I love math! 🙂 As I said, I have a wife Reetta Ja and a three-year-old son. I live near Turku which is a quite big Munzee city with new emerald garden! (Thank you MHQ to our Emerald Garden). I like physical munzee trails, and I love capping all Mythological and special munzees. I’ am also the creator and administrator of Finland’s Munzee Facebook group.

Other hobbies include:
I enjoy anything that has to do with outside: gardening, swimming, picking wild berries and mushrooms, caching, and of course, Munzee. I also collect Donald Duck comics, and I have almost all Donald Duck comic books that have been published during 50 years in Finland.

Any last words?
Grow the map, and keep smiling (it is only game)!

Player of the Week: Matt Stenson (Matt99972)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Matt Stenson (Matt99972).

2016-05-18 12.42.15Who are you?
My name is Matt Stenson (Matt99972).

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Ilkseton which is in the East Midlands, UK.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing in February 2014.

How did you find Munzee?
I was walking the dog when I spotted a QR code pinned to a tree. I was intrigued, so I scanned it with my phone which took me to the Munzee website. I downloaded the app, and I was hooked.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I enjoy getting out and about, deploying long trails of physical munzees and then watching the CapOn points come in. When we’ve reached our cal target for the month, I also enjoy visiting some of the original Munzee trails in the countryside.

2014-12-26 14.55.41

What is on your wish list?
I’d love to visit one of the big virtual fields in the world and see just how many points I could score in one day. I’m 2/3 of the way towards the Millionaire’s Club, so that is next on the wish list.

Tell us about yourself:
I am an accountant, so getting off my chair and getting exercise and fresh air is not something that I would usually do. I have a son, Quinn, who plays occasionally (Terrin) and an ever suffering partner, Jen, who comes along for the walk. When I first started playing, I was invited to join a Facebook group for local players and was made very welcome. Since then, our team (Munzee Team East Midlands) has grown to 6 full clans. Every 2016-06-05 13.21.22month, everyone posts what level they think they will be able to achieve in the next month, and I organise everyone into the six clans. Sometimes, this can be quite a task, but the team works together and the admins in each clan do a great job. For a relatively small area, it’s amazing how many munzees we have deployed now (at the time of writing, we had the 20th biggest weapon cluster in the world).

Other hobbies include:
I discovered WallaBee when Munzee took over and have been hooked ever since. I try and play golf when the weather is nice, and during the winter, I work on my family tree.

Any last words?
It’s amazing to see how the game has evolved from when I first joined. I saw an old post the other day that reminded me that the first clan battle I took part in, there were only 4 levels and the “Chuck” was achieved by everyone in the clan scoring 2,500 points each, which at the time, seemed almost impossible!

IMG_1439Who are you?

Stacy Thompson-Numbers, Munzee name – Freecyclestacy

Where in the world do you live?
In Central Massachusetts, right outside of Worcester.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have played for just over two years, starting in July 2014.

How did you find Munzee?
I was searching for some family friendly activities that would get us outside and exercising. I found a couple of geo-location games, one of them being Munzee. We live in a very active area, so we were hooked from the start!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
There are a lot of things I love about Munzee! I munzee with my husband, kids, brother, mother, and sometimes, my dad will tag along. We love spending this time together and have created lots of memories. I also love being part of the Munzee community. Those local to me are simply amazing people. They are always willing to share their Munzee knowledge, putting on events so we can socialize and get points, and are just really nice people in general. Also, I love the new places which Munzee has brought me. I would never have found these places otherwise. Finally, I like the exercise I get while Munzeeing. There is nothing like getting out in nature, capturing and deploying with family, all while getting some exercise!

What is on your wish list?
I would love to take an RV road trip cross-country with family, visiting all of the Munzee hot spots along the way, eventually getting to McKinney to meet those that make this game possible. I am sure this would make for lots of laughs and family memories along the way!

IMG_0720

Tell us about yourself:
I am a stay-at-home mom of 2 kids, ages 3 and 1. They are the focus of my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My 3-year-old loves finding munzees and is great at spotting them! Sometimes he finds them before me! I often name my munzees after family memories or funny things my kids do. I have lived in Massachusetts for nearly all of my life and enjoy the peacefulness it brings. Family is very important to me, and I love spending time with them, be it Munzeeing, caching, grilling, playing board games, or vacationing at Disney!

Other hobbies include:
Along with Munzee, I also play WallaBee and cache. I love being outdoors in nature, gardening, backing with my kids, crafting, grilling, playing board games, and anything Disney-related!

Any last words?
A huge thank you to those that nominated me. This is a huge honor, and I am so appreciative. I also want to thank everyone in my local Munzee community. You are all such amazing people, and I feel lucky to be part of this community — Thank you!! Play the game however you can, and have a great time doing it! Munzee on!

My name is Jeffrey Thompson, better known as Disneyfan4life85.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Winchendon, Massachusetts which no one in the state, let alone the rest of the world, knows where that is. 😀

How long have you played Munzee?
Just over two years,

How did you find Munzee?
I actually found out about it while hiking for some containers with my sister (Freecyclestacy) and her husband (Jasnumbs), and we were curious about what we found. We looked it up and found it was a munzee. We were hooked from there.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
A couple things I really love:

  1. Meeting new people playing and forming friendships with them, seeing, and meeting up with them.
  2. Deploying. I really love coming up with names and helping people achieve points and different munzees. I love deploying at places I visit such as Florida and my surrounding states. I recently went to Gettysburg, PA for July 4th and earned my Super Duper ULTRA Streak!! As the badge icon shows, I was, to say the least, PUMPED! 😀

Me and Rafiki

What is on your wish list?

Player of the Week: Lori Daiker (Lorimar)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Lori Daiker (Lorimar).

Who are you?
Lori Daiker – Lorimar

Where in the world do you live?
I live in beautiful Clearwater, Florida which is in the Tampa Bay area. We have beautiful beaches.

How long have you played Munzee?
I signed up in November 2014 at a Coexist event in Rome, Georgia, but I started playing seriously in 2015.

How did you find Munzee?
I was introduced to Munzee by Geomsp. She walked me to my first munzee, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?IMG_2436
I love getting out and moving!!! I also enjoy the great friends I have made through the game. It’s so much more fun to Munzee in a group, and the events are amazing.

What is on your wish list?
I would love to visit MHQ, and of course, to make it to the top 100 players worldwide.

Tell us about yourself:
I am a registered nurse and have been for 30+ years. I have two amazing adult children. My husband (FDDave) is my Munzee partner. And, of course, there is Marlee, my Dachshund, also known as “Munzee Pup”. All the local players know Marlee. She goes everywhere with me.
