November GOTM and POTM Winners!

Far from being the intermediary month between Halloween and Christmas, November brought us some popular Origami specials, recognition for our veterans, and time to reflect on what we’re thankful for. As this month comes to a close, we are happy to announce the winners of the November Garden of the Month (GOTM) and Player of the Month (POTM), as well as the criteria for December POTM! The badges for November GOTM and POTM will be awarded in early December, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

November GOTM

This month we wanted to highlight two gardens of the avian influence — who says November is only for turkeys? Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Owlgarden Zürich, designed by Tabata2, and the Berlin Tempelhofer Feld – Skylark/Feldlerche, designed by halizwein, as our winning November GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

Owlgarden Zürich by Tabata2 in Zürich, Switzerland

This adorable blue bird is a work of art in its own right!

Owls have long been associated with wisdom and knowledge, to the extent that they are associated with the Greek goddess Athena. Was it by coincidence or by design then, that the garden blankets Zurich’s Nordamerika Native Museum (NONAM)? You’ll have to ask creator Tabata2!

Berlin Tempelhofer Feld – Skylark/Feldlerche by halizwein in Berlin, Germany

This garden is located in Tempelhofer Feld, once an airfield, and now the largest inner-city green space in Berlin!

While this garden was nominated earlier in the year, we think the colors are perfect for fall! Creator halizwein was inspired by the lively chirpings and calls of the skylarks, which are plentiful at Tempelhofer Feld in the spring. The spreadsheet for this garden even includes a link to a video where you can hear the skylarks for yourself!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Send your nomination for GOTM to iloveyou@munzee.com! Keep in mind that we take all former nominations into consideration for upcoming months. Just be sure your garden follows the nomination rules in order to be considered eligible!

If you need help deploying in a Virtual Garden, you can check out this step-by-step tutorial that will making deploying in a garden easy no matter how long you’ve been playing. To fill in the gardens, make sure to stock up on Virtuals and Color Credits from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

November POTM

November POTM’s requirements were simple — all you had to do is be a Premium Member!

All Premium Members will receive the following POTM badge. On top of the badge, Premium Members will also be credited a Golden Carrot Munzee and a Vacation Condo Munzee as well! You can expect to see the badge and credits in early December.

Thank you so much for choosing to support Munzee by buying a Premium Membership!

December POTM Requirements

It can’t be the most wonderful time of the year without a wreath-y good POTM badge to go with it! As in the previous months, this unique POTM badge is eligible for any player to earn regardless of previous wins. The badge will appear as follows:

We want to see some festive fun at events! Anyone who posts a photo on an Event Indicator from Dec 1-31 will receive this badge! If you aren’t already planning to go to an event, why not host your own? Purchase Christmas Events in the Freeze Tag Store now! Don’t forget about our Best Dressed Contest either — you can kill two birds with one stone by posting the same photo on social media!

Best Dressed Christmas Event Contest Details!

Let’s see that winter western wear!

Our Ho Ho Hoedown Christmas events will be kicking off in less than two weeks! So as you’re all preparing to host and attend your festive Munzee Events we wanted to offer some more details about our Best Dressed competition!

In previous years we’ve asked players to show up in their dodgiest jumpers and one lucky attendee would be chosen winner by the host of that event. Well this year we’re shaking it up a bit in hopes to spread the word about our Ho Ho Hoedowns!

In order to earn this year’s Best Dressed badge you’ll need to share an image of yourself at a Munzee Event in a holiday outfit. Whether that’s a dodgy jumper, a festive Father Christmas getup, or even a superb Snowman suit is entirely up to you! We’ll accept submissions through Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter! In order to win you have to include your username, the event name/location, the hashtag #HoHoHoedown, and tag Munzee. Please note that Christmas events don’t start until December!

As long as you follow the rules and put forth some effort, you’ll be awarded the Best Dressed Christmas badge. This year’s Best Dressed Winners will be awarded this badge featuring the most Christmassy Cowboy in town!

We’ll share some of our favorite player outfits to the official Munzee social media pages throughout December, but the badge will not be awarded until after the month has wrapped up. Then we’ll add all of the winners to a gallery on the Munzee Blog to announce when the badge has been awarded!

Don’t forget there’s still time to purchase Christmas Event Packages, but Trish’s diary is filling up so if you want custom artwork you better act fast! We’ve got an exciting month ahead of us, so stay tuned for more holiday shenanigans soon!

Munzee on and Merry Christmas!

Munzee Toolkit MunzDay: Vike91

One of the best parts about Munzee is that you can play how you want. Everyone goes about playing a bit differently, and that leads to some very creative and innovative uses of objects. From containers to bags to maintenance, we always encounter something new when we meet players. We want to showcase your Munzee Toolkits to see how you play the game and possibly even inspire other players who may need help! This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from Vike91!

The week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes to us from Vike91, who hails from Kajaani, Finland. In the past year and a half, Vike91 has amassed over 650,000 points thanks to his clever Munzee strategies. Though considered a fairly new player, Vike91 has quickly accumulated quite an extensive Munzee Toolkit! Read on to discover all the goodies he packs away!

Vike91 Toolkit

First, I have a cheap jig/lure case (got it for 4 dollars in a fishing store). The advantage of this case is it has modifiable compartments.

My case contains the following:

  • Foldable scissors for cutting out too big munzees, very handy! I got them on eBay for 1 dollar a piece. (The toolkit only includes one pair of scissors, the other is just for full display)
  • A whistle for emergencies
  • 2 Personal Munzees whenever I meet another Munzee player (I wish my area had more)
  • 2 coins
  • A Munzee badge
  • A small tin box to carry with at all times, with self-printed munzees (maybe I should throw in some generics as well for QRew repair)
  • And of course, self-adhesive munzees!

I have arranged all the munzees by type/type group/size, I know exactly where each type is. There are over 600 self-adhesive munzee stickers in the case.

First column has generic and self-printed munzees.

Second column includes all the 1×2 inch sized munzees (Horoscopes, Camo Greenies)

Third column includes 2×1 specials (RUMs, Prize Wheels, Motels, Hotels, Shamrocks, and Jewels) and Evos.

Fourth column has special and Camo Greenies.

Fifth one has 1×1 sized specials (Seasonals, Jewels, Mysteries, Bowling), oversized stickers, coins/badge and Horoscopes.

Sixth one includes the over-over-oversized Mystery sticker and my Geocaching-related stickers. It also holds almost all the small things, like Personals.

I also have a backpack where I pack this box in, and just in case, I pack a power bank with me so I don’t run out of power. When charging, I often leave the power bank in the backpack, rig the cable through a hole in backpack and finally, connect it to my phone. I have been considering to get a retractable wheel charging cable for this purpose.

Finland has COLD winters, so I also carry a portable blowtorch with me to defrost frozen surfaces for better stick.

I chose all of those items, because I feel those are the most necessary items to play Munzee for me.

Maybe I have too many stickers… maybe I should go deploy, deploy, and deploy some more. Deploy… they will come (or at least they say so)…

October GOTM and POTM Winners!

Happy Halloween! We hope everyone has a scary good night while staying safe! Today we’re happy to announce the winners of October Garden of the Month (GOTM) and Player of the Month (POTM), as well as announce the criteria for November POTM! Ready to discover what themed gardens claimed the October title?

October GOTM

It’s time to recognize some outstanding Virtual Garden builders who helped us get in the holiday spirit! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Abstatt Tomcat (aka Munzee Tomcat), designed by Chandabelle, and the Cedar Rapids Pumpkin Garden, designed by Rodrico101, as our winning October GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

Abstatt Tomcat by Chandabelle in Abstatt Germany

Halloween has black cats on our mind, but this Munzee Tomcat offers plenty of color for spooky season. The garden is inspired by the Rälling cat, which is the town mascot of Abstatt, Germany. You can find statues of the cat all over Abstatt, but especially in Bürger Park. You can find some real world pictures of the cat below!

Cedar Rapids Pumpkin Garden by Rodrico101 in Iowa

No spooky season would be complete without a pumpkin! This jack-o-lantern face holds all the menace of spooky fun, so we couldn’t resist awarding it as October GOTM! Plus, this garden is extra special, because player Rodrico101 also created a Frankenstein Garden right next to his pumpkin! Though only the pumpkin won GOTM, you can check both gardens out below:

And speaking of honorable mentions, there is one more garden we would like to recognize! Like the Frankenstein Garden, it wasn’t 100% filled at the time of nomination, and therefore is not legible for GOTM, but we loved the Jack-O’-Lantern Garden too much not to give it some attention! You can assist father and son garden designing team SEvans and LiamCEvans by clicking the link to the spreadsheet to help them finish deploying in their spooktacular garden! The design appears as follows:

October POTM

October POTM called for player nominations, as we asked for you to email us your nominations for hosts who go the extra mile for the good of the game. The following QRazy Contributors have been recognized by their fellow players for helping to create external tools that facilitate gameplay! The winners are:

  • RUJA
  • sohcah
  • Hinklenator
  • Georiffles
  • Laczy76
  • SpaceCoastGeoStore
  • MunzeeMadness
  • ddcards
  • Jesnou
  • FlexPete
  • 1849
  • MeLa

These players will all receive the following POTM badge:

A big thank you to everyone who takes the time and effort to run and maintain their third party tools!

November POTM Requirements

As October wraps up, it’s on to November, which means there will be more POTM winners coming up. This month we’re happy to announce that there will be a special November POTM badge that any player can earn regardless of previous nominations or wins. The badge will appear as follows:

How can you win this badge? Everyone who is a Munzee Premium Member by the end of November will be awarded this custom badge, as well as some freebie items! Want to know what they are? Well, you’ll just have to win the badge! To learn more about the Munzee Premium Membership, check out our Help Guide.

A final congratulations to all players who won GOTM and/or POTM badges this month. Keep up the awesome work!

This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from a Munzee vet. Player sdgal has been munzeeing for nearing 7 years, with her Munzee strategies helping her earn over 5.8 million points for a top 500 world ranking. Let’s see what sdgal carries in her Munzee Toolkit to help her achieve such impressive numbers!

The larger one (left) is for when I plan to deploy. I carry the smaller one (right) just in case Qrewzee replacement is necessary

Sdgal Toolkit

My user name is sdgal. My husband is SDWD. We do approximately 90% of the deploys in our town, Yankton, SD. There is one other active player in town, but she never deploys.

The current #9 and #29 players in the world are friends from our caching days. They have generously  deployed in our town, as well as a couple of other friends.

My husband and I are both in our 70’s, so we enjoy getting out of the house and get a little exercise chasing specials. We winter in Yuma and have really grown that area. Now there are a couple more active players down there, so more fun with more players!

This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from klc1960!

Today’s featured Munzee Toolkit is brought to us by Kim Callahan, or klc1960 as she is known in Munzee. Klc1960 has earned nearly half a million points since joining Munzee last year, a feat made possible thanks to her Munzee Toolkit! Hailing from Beaver Falls, PA, klc1960 has taken the time to share what she carefully packs for her Munzee adventures!

klc1960 Toolkit

Hi… my name is Kim Callahan, and this is my Munzee Toolkit aka Munzee Bag. I purchased it in the cosmetic section at Walmart. It’s a travel makeup bag that came with the 3 oz bottle for air travel, which I use for other things. I love that the bag is compact, it’s “vinyl” so it cleans easy, and that it carries everything I need in an easy to transport way.

Pic #1: The bag is a bit flashy, so guys probably won’t like it ?

Pic #2: The outside zipper pocket holds my selfie stick, scissors, hole punch, flashlight, markers, small notebook, self sticking business card size laminators, zip ties, and alcohol wipes, as well as anything else I might throw in there.

Pic #3: Everything is in its place in the outside zipper pocket.

Pic #4: The large inside zipper pocket contains my sticker box, phone charger, and various cut munzees, as well as my Personals.

Pic #5: Everything is in its place in the large inside zipper pocket.

Pic #6: The small zipper pocket contains envelopes of various munzee sheets.

Pic #7: Lastly, the bag has a handy dandy hanger if you should ever need one!!

Munzee Community Gives Back to North Texas Food Bank!

Munzee is awesome for many reasons, but the players are certainly one of the best parts! Our recent Bash weekend started things off in the best way possible with a community food drive donation! We asked players to bring food donations to Bash Registration  for us to donate to the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB).

Members of the North Texas Food Bank arrived at MHQ to pick up all of the player donations collected at Bash

Players then earned a spin on the IRL Prize Wheel for every 4 canned food items or 1 jar of peanut butter they brought, for a maximum of 3 spins per player. It was a win-win situation that created fun for all while giving back to an excellent cause. And thanks to player generosity, we’re happy to announce that we collected an impressive stack of donations!

Together we collected a total of 369 necessary food item donations! They included:

  • 83 jars of peanut butter
  • 277 cans of food
  • 9 bags of rice and oatmeal

In addition to the food donations, a $600 monetary donation was also made out to the NTFB on behalf of Freeze Tag. Funds for this donation were gathered from a portion of profits from our Peony garden pins ($500) and Peony Personal tags ($100). A big thank you goes out to all players who brought food items or supported the donations through their Peony purchases!

North Texas Food Bank

The NTFB is a local social benefit organization that distributes donated food to North Texans in need. In North Texas, 1 in 6 people don’t have a reliable source of daily food. Every dollar donated to the NTFB is able to provide three meals to families, children, and seniors in North Texas. These nutritious meals are distributed with the support of the community, so the money earned from the Peony sales will personally bring 1,800 meals to North Texans in need!

Thanks again for helping us support this awesome cause! We love seeing what can happen when our community comes together.

Peanut butter is one of the most requested NTFB donation items.

Announcing Survey Results and Selected Winners!

Last month we released a poll requesting player feedback, and we’re happy to report that the responses were plentiful! Today we’re going to share some of the general consensuses gathered from the survey, as well as announce the participating survey players who were randomly selected to receive prizes. A big thank you goes out to everyone who took the time to send us your feedback in an effort to make Munzee the best player experience as possible! We’re excited to share with you what fellow players had to say about gameplay!

Survey Winners

Before we get into the survey feedback, let’s first announce the winners! Though players were able to submit the survey anonymously, those who entered their usernames were all submitted to a randomized prize drawing. We’re happy to announce that the following 10 players were all randomly selected to be awarded 2 Virtuals, 2 virtual colors, 1 virtual Joystick, and 1 Blast Cap! The lucky winners are:

  • ACCLanMan
  • gingercurlz
  • janzattic
  • jurikvandspol
  • madewell
  • OldSchoolSkater
  • SolWalk74
  • ufrie
  • xCrooksy
  • TX_Diva

Congratulations to these 10 players for being randomly selected! Your prizes have been added to your accounts!

Survey Feedback

The results are in! While we won’t be revealing all of our player feedback for the sake of brevity, we are excited to share several key things we learned from player responses. Due to a very large sample size, the following results have terrific projectability and a very low margin of error of only 1-2%. That means we are thrilled to place a confidence level of 95% on the following results.

Favorite Part of Gameplay

We asked players to reveal their favorite part of Munzee gameplay, and it turns out that the majority of players (66.6%) prefer both physical and virtual gameplay equally, striking a comfortable balance. 21.3% of players preferred strictly virtual play, while only 12.1% enjoyed just physical play. It appears that many players enjoy mastering the many aspects of Munzee.

Rate of Release

With different munzees released at a fairly consistent rate, we decided to see if players were overwhelmed or underwhelmed by any release rates.  It turns out that players reported the rate of release being “just right” for new Munzee Owned Bouncers (52.69%), Player Owned Bouncers (48.66%), and permanent Munzee types (54.03%). These statistics reveal that the majority of players are quite pleased with current gameplay release rates.

Biggest Benefit of Munzee

Here at Munzee, we’re all about playing your way, which led us to ask a very important question that yielded some pleasant results: what do you think is the biggest benefit of playing Munzee? Turns out that the most players enjoy keeping active (45.3%), followed by exploring new areas (27.6%), collecting different game pieces (10.3%), and meeting new people/players (9.7%).

Thanks again to all players who took the time to respond to the survey and provide feedback! We love hearing your ideas, suggestions, and feedback. We’ll keep all of these results in mind for future expansion and releases!

Munzee Toolkit Munzday: Slunicko

One of the best parts about Munzee is that you can play how you want. Everyone goes about playing a bit differently, and that leads to some very creative and innovative uses of objects. From containers to bags to maintenance, we always encounter something new when we meet players. We want to showcase your Munzee Toolkits to see how you play the game and possibly even inspire other players who may need help! This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from Slunicko!

Today’s featured Munzee Toolkit is brought to us by international player Slunicko! A Munzee player for nearing 4 years, Slunicko has amassed over 11 million points thanks to her Munzee strategies. And when it comes to packing her toolkit, this frequently traveling player is all about keeping things light and easy, proving that quality over quantity is all you need sometimes!

Slunicko Toolkit

This is my Munzee Toolkit. My munzee name is Slunicko, which means “sunshine” in Czech language. My civil name is Gina, and besides Munzeeing I am an international hospital planner.

I travel light through the whole world a lot. This means my travel kit must be light, ultralight. For my world travels, I use only a small plastic bag filled with generics, situated in the case of my phone (see below).

The rest of my munzee resources are packed in the travel vanity bag I got from Air France (already searching for smaller, more colorful one?). It contains, besides all types of munzee stickers (sorted in small plastic bags again), a mini lamp (sometimes my phone rejects this function) and scissors (I even got them free for traveling from Vienna to Grenaa with my hand luggage from friendly customs).

However, I prefer cutting all I might need before travels, and the generics I order are peel-off, so there’s really no need for scissors. The majority of my munzees are credits nowadays anyhow.

MedZEEval Times Recap! Looking Back at MHQ Bash 2019

It’s officially been 2 weeks since players joined us for the start of MedZEEval Times weekend, and we’re still basking in the social success of MHQ Bash  6! Whether you’re already ready to take a trip down memory lane for this medieval-themed weekend, or you want to check out the fun we had in North Texas, this Bash recap is a wonderful way to showcase some Munzee memories!

If these pictures are making you feel left out because you weren’t able to join us this year, fear not! We announced at the end of Bash that next year’s MHQ Bash 7 will take place from Sept 25-27, 2020! That means it’s time to mark your calendars for some unforgettable future fun!

MHQ Bash Registration

Things started off on September 27 as we opened the doors to players for MHQ Bash Registration on Friday evening. Our first event of the weekend saw players meet up, check in, pick up purchases, shop our pop-up store, receive MHQ office tours, and earn prizes! The IRL Prize Wheel was present, with players earning a spin (for a maximum of 3 spins per player) for every 4 food items or 1 jar of peanut butter they brought as a part of our joint donation to the North Texas Food Bank.

Players were welcome to join us at all events for free with the Court Jester package, though there was the option to pre-order the King’s Court package. Players who purchased this package were able to pick up the following items:

  • Name Tag and Lanyard
  • Clan War Bag
  • T-Shirt
  • 2 Blast Caps
  • Munzee Magnet and Virtual Magnet
  • Special Edition Munzee Foam Sword commemorative item
  • A new in-game item that attendees will be the first to receive once released

While plenty of Texans joined us at MHQ for the festivities, we were thrilled to have players travel in from all parts of the country and world to celebrate Munzee with the international Freeze Tag Team. We concluded the night by drawing names for some additional IRL Prize Wheel spins, which saw the addition of two lucky players winning tickets to join us at Medieval Times in Dallas the following evening for dinner and a show, as well as a variety of other prizes being handed out. Players also had the opportunity to participate in an Eventzee photo scavenger hunt.

Knight’s Armor Eventzee Fun

Eventzee was in the spotlight on Saturday morning as players joined us in the Village at Fairview for an Eventzee hunt that saw players scouting out staff members holding various parts of the Knight’s Armor, as well as Clan Weapons, around the North Texas shopping center. Rob, Tamara, Craig, Mari, Guilherme, and Daniel spread out with pieces of the Knight’s Armor, while Louise, Mick, and Matt were stationed with Clan Weapons. Eventzee players traveled throughout the shopping center to snap photos for a fun morning of exercise and socialization that was followed by WallaBee‘s WallaBash afternoon celebration. And that was only half the fun for many Munzee players on day 2 of Bash!

A Night with Knights

In addition to the free Court Jester package and priced King’s Court package, players were also able to pre-purchase the package add-on of A Night with Knights. This granted them full access to joining us at Medieval Times in Dallas for a medieval times themed dinner and show that featured horse riding, jousting, and medieval immersion fun. A four-course meal was also included with purchase, which wrapped up day 2 of MedZEEval Times weekend.

Storm the Castle Eventzee Fun

Our final event took place on Sunday morning as we hosted our second Eventzee hunt of the weekend with our Storm the Castle fun run. Players enjoyed a sunny day in Russel Creek Park in Plano as they traveled around to the Eventzee Battlements (Tamara), WallaBee Wall (Robbie), Munzee Castle (Daniel), and Freeze Tag Fortress (Mari) for some photo hunt fun. Thankfully the Texas heat was a bit more forgiving, and players and staff alike were able to close out a successful weekend with sunshine, exercise, and smiles.

In addition to the scheduled events, players had the opportunity to meet up, socialize, and explore the area to earn an enormous amount of points. Thanks to the placement of special gardens, such as the Pink Peony, players from around the world were able to join in on the fun and earn CapOn points, as well as shop our worldwide weekend sale and enjoy the Knight’s Armor specials on the map!

Thanks again to everyone who came out to join in on the fun! We can’t wait to see what fun 2020 has in store for Bash in addition to all the events and fun along the way. In the meantime, players can get in on some scary fun socialization by enjoying the Halloween Event Packages!
