2019 Yearly Leaderboard Badges!

At first glance, Munzee seems like a pretty simple game. Scan physical munzees to get points. Tap on virtual munzees to get even more points. There are different types of physical munzees and different types of virtual munzees that award you with varying numbers of points. Simple, right?

What’s not so simple is how to stay on top of all the numerous active players! While more established players do have an advantage in terms of deployed munzees (rake in those CapOn points!), they face difficulties in finding munzees to cap, especially if they are active in Clan Wars! Taking advantage of special points days, active Flat Friends days, and other strategies are necessary to maintain or improve their ranking.

For the first time in Munzee History we are happy to recognize the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place on the overall yearly leaderboard for 2019! These accomplished players are, as follows:

December GOTM Winners!

December is always packed with activities — this month was no exception with Ninja-bread Men specials, an Ornament Design Contest, Advent Calendar announcements, and fun fashions and staff at Christmas events, to name a few! Before the year is out, we wanted to give one last gift to some lucky Munzee players! We are happy to announce the winners of the December Garden of the Month (GOTM), give one last reminder for December Player of the Month (POTM), and announce the criteria for January POTM! The badges for December GOTM and POTM will be awarded in early January, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

December GOTM

This month we wanted to highlight two gardens depicting adorable Santa’s helpers. Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Bearmomscouter’s Xmas Polar Bear, designed by kelkavcvt, and the Pinguin Sennelager, designed by rabe85, as our winning December GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

This sweet bear resembles a cute graham cracker or chocolate treat!

This garden was created last year for the third annual NJ Fire Christmas Party event! Attendees were able to view antique firefighting equipment at the NJ Fire Museum and participate in a mug contest! What a unique and special way to celebrate with fellow Munzee players!

Pinguin Sennelager by rabe85 in Sennelager, Germany

What’s black, white, and red all over? This beauty!

Creator rabe85 was able to capture the cute, bulbous shape of a penguin’s body by making it larger in size, which allowed for gentle curves in its design. Unlike the Xmas Polar Bear garden, this garden was completed quite recently (just 2 days before this article was first drafted!). Thankfully, players were able to fill it in the nick of time!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

December POTM

December’s POTM’s requirements put the emphasis on event attendees. All you have to do is take a photo at a Christmas event and add it to the Event Indicator pin for that event.

All players who meet that requirement will receive the following POTM badge. If you have some photos still sitting on your device, you still have a few hours left! You can expect to see the badge in early January.

January POTM Requirements

For January’s POTM we want you all to nominate players who will brave the weather rain or shine to chase down munzees. We’re looking for Weather Warriors! They’re not afraid to beat the heat, and the snow never bothered them anyway. Tornados will have to wait if there’s a bouncer nearby. They might take this game a little too seriously, but we want to award them for their bravery!

As in the previous months, this unique POTM badge is eligible for any player to earn regardless of previous wins. The badge will appear as follows:

New Year’s Resolution Streak Badges Return!

Last year we introduced our Resolution Streak Badges. Each month had a different goal for personal growth to focus on, ranging from the simple and specific (August’s “Read More”) to the more complex and broad (December’s “Give More”). We love reading the comments on these posts to learn how our players have achieved these monthly goals in different ways! To continue our journey of self-improvement, we decided to renew this badge line for 2020!

This year, we wanted to bring back the focus to one of the biggest benefits our game has — the ability to make being active fun! Each month will focus on a popular exercise. Who knows, you might be inspired to add one to your routine! Similar to the Super Streak badges all you have to do is capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. If you can make it through the whole month you’ll be awarded a badge themed to that month’s resolution goal!

To ease into this theme without too many sore muscles, we decided to keep this month simple and highlight the tried-and-true Jumping Jack! We hope just thinking about them won’t make you weak in the knees!

Did you know?

The American origins for this exercise can be traced back to World War I, believed to be developed by an Army Officer and inspired by a once-popular children’s toy which made a similar motion to the exercise. In the United Kingdom, this exercise is called a “Star Jump” due to the shape your body makes when doing this exercise. Perhaps we’ll try out this alternative name as we converse about our New Year’s Resolutions!

Jumping jacks are a great cardio exercise. If the standard jumping jack is actually tough on your knees, there are a few ways to reduce the pain — make sure you are on a level surface, wear good shock-absorbing shoes, keep your knees slightly bent, and try to keep your jumps gentle as well. If shoulder pain is a concern, try half jacks, which are the same as regular jumping jacks except that you bring your arms up halfway. Of course, please exercise (pun intended) extreme caution when trying this out. Consult your doctor before starting a new exercise routine, and always listen to your body. Stop when you feel too much pain. A little pain is okay — no pain, no gain, right? But don’t push yourself way past what your body is capable of**. All exercises have modifications to accommodate all body types.

We know capping a munzee each day won’t magically make you more fit, but we hope as you work towards this capture streak you think about squeezing in a few reps! Any movement is better than none at all! We’re all in this together and if nothing else it will help you get one step closer to the yearlong capture and deploy streak badges. We’ll have a different resolution badge design each month, but try and keep up with your resolutions throughout the year! We believe in you!

Continue Caroling with the 12 Days of Texmas!

Ho, Ho, Howdy! Before we closed our offices, we thought we’d schedule in one more surprise for y’all!

Alongside our Ho Ho Hoedown Christmas Events, these specials are a holiday tribute to Munzee’s Texas roots. As you may have seen on our Facebook Page earlier today, our CZeeO is quite a caroler! We wanted to share his joy of Christmas music with all our players, so we came up with our very own “12 Days of Texmas” specials! The first day’s special is now on the map, but you’ll have to stay tuned each day to see what the newest special is!

Kringle’s Cowboy Hat Special

A new special will go live on each of the 12 Days (6 physical, 6 virtual), but at varying times each day — we want you to be surprised! All 12 specials will remain on the map until January 6 at 23:59 MHQ time. Depending on the special’s type, it will either bounce to greenies or virtuals every 6 hours or when captured, and be attracted to the corresponding Magnets.

A different number of bouncers will be released for each icon, but to start off 110 Kringle’s Cowboy Hats will be on the map until the 6th. To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

Points

  • Cap: 120
  • CapOn (Host): 120

Additionally, there will be three badges to earn based on number of captures of 12 Days of Texmas specials. But just how many captures it takes to earn all 3 badges will be kept a secret! However, we will reveal the first badge in the line, which appears as follows:

Prairie Pecan Pie- Capture at least one 12 Days of Texmas Special of any type.

Magnetus Joins Munzee As the Latest Pouch Creature!

This pet with an unusual proboscis may be a pest to Santa and his elves, but only due to the sheer numbers! The magnetic force emanating from the Magnetus’s bill is so strong that they are often found stuck on the most inconvenient metal surfaces, i.e. the communal fridge, various power tools, and especially Santa’s sleigh — sometimes the reindeer aren’t able to take off due to the weight of all the attached Magnetus! To help reduce Magnetus numbers in the North Pole, the latest Pouch Creature is on sale NOW and through the weekend in the Freeze Tag Online Store!

That’s right, that means you won’t have to set your timers for odd hours in order to guarantee a Magnetus purchase! You can pick up your Magnetus Pouch Creature for $15. Magnetus will be joining the ranks of Mitmegu, Tuli, Vesi, Muru, and Hadavale as the latest Munzee Pouch Creature. Pouch Creatures are based on items from our sister app, WallaBee, and represent a new era of munzees to enjoy! Magnetus

Like the Pimedus we introduced earlier in the year, the Magnetus will operate similarly to a Prize Wheel, randomly offering different prizes for cappers and owners! You can earn points, magnets, maybe even the high point earning Virtual Deploy Booster Credit?!?! That means you never know what prize you’ll be getting! Unlike the Pimedus, the Magnetus is a benign being. It will always reward you with points, but the amount will be reduced if you receive an additional prize!

  • Deploy: 250 points
  • Capture: Will vary from the following options:
    • 150 – 200 points
    • 100 points and a Prize

The possible prizes Magnetus will attract may change at any given time, but it will always be something fun! While the capper of Magnetus will receive one of the listed prize options, each Magnetus owner will ALSO have the chance to earn a random prize for each CapOn! This magnetic platypus will draw the nearest metal object, so you never know what you’ll receive! The prize options at launch for CapOn will appear as follows:

When the Bouncer Upgrade credit is used, your Magnetus will also have the ability to be “nudged” to a new munzee. You can use the nudge feature up to three times a day (MHQ 24-hour day), but only after your munzee has sat for at least 3 hours. Additionally, the Bouncer Upgrade will also allow you to rename your Magnetus! The name will still retain the unique number, but feel free to get creative and customize your Pouch Creature’s moniker. Please keep in mind our player code of conduct, and be mindful of maintaining a family friendly environment!

Magnetus will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture Magnetus on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same Magnetus visits you. However, Magnetus will be non-blastable. This Pouch Creature will be attracted to Physical Magnets on Greenies and Virtual Magnets on Red- and Blue-toned Virtual Munzees. You can access Magnetus under the “Only Expiring Specials” and “Only Pouch Creatures” filters.

Badges

Magnetus captures will count toward the overall Pouch Creature capture badges. Additionally all players who purchase a Magnetus will receive the following deploy badge:

There are also three more badges to unlock based on number of Magnetus captures. The first in the series will appear as follows:

Magnetus will be available for sale exclusively from the Freeze Tag Online Store from today until 12:00 MHQ time on Monday, December 23. With its many perks, this Pouch Creature proves it is capable of more than sticking to Santa’s sleigh!

Let Vietnam’s Global Grub Warm You Up!

The weather outside is frightful, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to feast! As we head into our final month for our Global Grub releases, we’re thrilled to announce the addition of Vietnam Global Grub specials to the map starting today at 15:00 MHQ time!

A total of 12 Vietnam Global Grub specials will be deployed. They will join other virtual Global Grub specials such as USA, Ukraine, France, Australia, and more! They will bounce to regular virtuals and colored virtuals every 12 hours or when captured.

Points

  • Cap: 200
  • CapOn (Host): 100

Every time a Global Grub special is captured, you will earn a badge featuring a dish of food that is unique to the flag pin country. Capturing the Vietnam Global Grub will earn you the following special badge:

 

Pho is Vietnam’s answer to other countries’ popular noodle soups, such as the Japanese Ramen or Korean Ramyun. However, you’ll find they are vastly different — looking at the ingredients alone, you can see some clear differences. Pho noodles are made from rice flour, which gives them a slightly translucent white color. In addition, Pho puts the emphasis on fresh herbs and vegetables, which offer a lighter alternative for noodle soup fans!

The Global Grub specials will bounce around the globe for the remainder of the year before leaving the map on 12/31/2019 at 23:59 MHQ time. You will have until then to try your luck capturing these very rare specials. Don’t forget that our overall Global Grub capture line allows you more opportunities than ever to earn Global Grub badges!

Ninja-bread Men Specials Pop Out of the MHQ Oven Kicking!

Didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas last year? You might want to leave these cookies out for Santa this year so he gets the message! To spread some Christmas cheer we’ve baked enough batches of these cookies to feed an army! You can now take a bite out of four different Ninja-bread Men cookies — enough for you to swear off of gingerbread until next year!

Ninja-bread Men Details

We have four flavors of bouncing MOB specials (2 virtual, 2 physical) from now all the way until December 18 at 23:59 MHQ time! These cookie karate masters land on Greenies and Virtuals respectively, but both also land on certain “baking ingredients” Evolution Munzees as well! Virtual Ninja-Bread Men will land on all levels of Egg Evolution Munzees and physical Ninja-Bread Men will land on all levels of Milk Evolution Munzees. The specials will bounce every 6 hours or when captured. 1,875 of these specials have been released (roughly 468 of each type) for plenty of capping opportunities!

The physical specials will be attracted to Munzee Magnets on Greenies, while the virtual specials will be attracted to Virtual Magnets on Virts. To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

Physical Specials

The physical specials include the Sai Ninja-Bread Man and the Shuriken Ninja-Bread Man. These physical bouncers will land on the following:

  • Greenies
  • All levels of Milk Evolution Munzees
    • Calf
    • Cow
    • Milk

The physical bouncing specials will all be worth 83 points for both the Capture and Host.

Virtual Specials

The virtual specials include the Katana Ninja-Bread Man and the Nunchuck Ninja-Bread Man. These virtual bouncers will land on the following:

  • All colors of Virtual Munzees
  • All levels of Eggs Evolution Munzees
    • Chick
    • Chicken
    • Eggs

Like the physical bouncing specials, the virtual bouncing specials will all be worth 83 points for both the Capture and Host.

November GOTM and POTM Winners!

Far from being the intermediary month between Halloween and Christmas, November brought us some popular Origami specials, recognition for our veterans, and time to reflect on what we’re thankful for. As this month comes to a close, we are happy to announce the winners of the November Garden of the Month (GOTM) and Player of the Month (POTM), as well as the criteria for December POTM! November GOTM

This month we’re happy to award the Owlgarden Zürich, designed by Tabata2, and the Berlin Tempelhofer Feld – Skylark/Feldlerche, designed by halizwein, as our winning November GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

This adorable blue bird is a work of art in its own right!

Owls have long been associated with wisdom and knowledge, to the extent that they are associated with the Greek goddess Athena. Was it by coincidence or by design then, that the garden blankets Zurich’s Nordamerika Native Museum (NONAM)? You’ll have to ask creator Tabata2!

Berlin Tempelhofer Feld – Skylark/Feldlerche by halizwein in Berlin, Germany

This garden is located in Tempelhofer Feld, once an airfield, and now the largest inner-city green space in Berlin!

While this garden was nominated earlier in the year, we think the colors are perfect for fall! Creator halizwein was inspired by the lively chirpings and calls of the skylarks, which are plentiful at Tempelhofer Feld in the spring. The spreadsheet for this garden even includes a link to a video where you can hear the skylarks for yourself!

Join in for a week of photo fun with our Blue Christmas Premium Eventzee photo scavenger hunt!
