Event Spotlight: Munzee Mecca 2024

Even though you can play Munzee solo, the world of Munzee isn’t just about individual play; it’s about the thrill of connecting with fellow Munzee enthusiasts! Picture this: Munzee Events, where the air is exciting as veterans mingle with newcomers in a safe and welcoming setting. And hey, there’s more than just swapping stories –activities, games, and, if you’re lucky, snagging a sweet goodie bag! But let’s not kid ourselves; pulling off these shindigs takes some serious elbow grease. That’s why we’re shining the spotlight on past events! Get ready to be inspired to throw your bash if you’re a newbie or inject some fresh mojo into your gatherings if you’re a seasoned host.

Today, we’re featuring the Munzee Mecca Events, which took place over the weekend at various locations in Orlando, FL, USA. The weekend was full of events put together by a number of hosts, but for this Spotlight we chatted with host Linda Gartley, AKA CoalCracker7!

Please give us a summary of your event.

There were five events held over four days. The Thursday night event was a pre-meet and greet at the edge of a lake. I passed out the ten stops for the Tour of the Town Badge. Friday night was held at the Stained Glass House. We had a special badge for capping specific physicals. The main event was on Saturday. The event was held in a multi-use park with Roller Hockey, Splash Pad, Dog Park, Skate Park, Pickleball, and Soccer fields. We had Walking Tacos and Walking Nanner pudding (Banana Pudding) along with a drawing for a Premium Membership. 

We also played a version of Name That Tune. Clues were also given at each event to find one hidden personal tag. The Space Coast Geo Store was set up for everybody to buy Munzee-related items (i.e., lots of blasts). The Saturday Night Event was held at an Adventure Park with Water Skiing and Football and Soccer Fields. Saturday’s events also provided the opportunity to earn two additional badges for capping specific physicals on Saturday. The last event was on Sunday at the Wave Hotel Sculpture Garden. We provided donuts and coffee before everyone left for the day to go home. The Friday night, Saturday Main, Saturday Night, and Sunday morning events went mega.

What made your event unique?

We had visitors from Europe and all around the U.S. We also hosted special visitors, CoachV, SeeMyShell, and a Geocaching Vlogger. We had a total of five events over four days, with many new gardens to capture.

I believe that a good host should have lots of munzees available to capture, new gardens, and a variety of badges.

I will cohost the Florida Munzee Mecca Events in January 2025, and Macdonr will be the lead for those events.

Munzee Events in 2024!

It’s almost 2024, where has the year gone?!?

We’re so excited to look back on events over the past few years. We’ve seen players gathering together monthly for local events and building communities that enjoy playing Munzee together. Players around the world deploy at events, big and small, to make every event unique and special.

No More Monthly Events

In 2024, we’re going to move away from the monthly events system we’ve used the past two years. The goal was to increase event attendance and the number of events. We feel successful in what we’ve accomplished in this area. We’d like to focus on making events more special and have them feel less like a “requirement” just to earn a badge or gift for the hosts. We understand the pressure some felt to keep hosting events month after month, sometimes with very little help.

In 2024, we will have several special event packages throughout the year, like our current Christmas event package. The first special package will be for the month of February. We encourage players to gather as often as you like, while we return to this system of events from years ago. We will offer the ability for hosts to add custom badges and icons to any events if they like. Our hope with this change is to bring players together for special occasions as often as you like. We will continue to have double point weekends each month, so don’t worry about that!

Upcoming Event Credits!

In 2024, we’re also going to introduce a new reward credit to the event ecosystem. By attending events and capping Event Munzees you’ll be able to earn special credits to use a special section of our Redeem Store! There will be some unique rewards and also current rewards at reduced rates. We hope this will encourage all to attend events, and provide value beyond just the points you receive on that day. The best part of events is often the time spent with other players, but extra rewards certainly won’t hurt!

Updates to Mega Events

In terms of Mega events, we’re going to tweak how this is handled as well. No one will “apply” for mega event status. It will be earned through attendance, then credited by our team after the events have ended. There will be a special new badge for Mega events that have 50 attendees. Will we see events return to more than 100 players in 2024? If so, will there be a special badge for that? Only time will tell, so who will organize the first event that “goes Mega” in 2024?

We know there are some traditional yearly events that have more than 50 attendees and expect they will continue, so we are very excited to offer this NEW badge to celebrate their hard work. We will keep an eye on the calendar for how many have marked “will attend” and will promote these events for any who may want to earn these special new event badges.

We can already see on the calendar some of our annual events are ready to continue.

Salty Dog Specials!

Arghhh…arf? Ahoy there, scally-wags! We have a question… what’s better than dogs? PIRATE DOGS! Set sail with our NEW Salty Dog specials! You’ll encounter all kinds of piratey pooches, can you bark-lieve it? Starting NOW, you can try your luck at following these dastardly dogs to treasure until September 24, 2023 at 23:59 MHQ.

Two different Base specials will bounce around the map, the physical Mutt Map and the virtual Chewy Compass, as seen above.

Salty Dog Specials

These seafaring specials will will be released in waves, but will end at a total of 1500 Mutt Maps and 1500 Chewy Compasses. They will bounce around on the map every 3 hours or when captured. Capture either to start a scatter trail! The first scatter is guaranteed, then the rest only have a chance to scatter from the previous one. You must capture all 7 Salty Dog scatters to find the buried treasure!

Both of the Salty Dog specials will be worth 150 points for the Capture and 50 points for the CapOn, so you don’t want to miss out! Mutt Map will be attracted to Physical Magnets, while Chewy Compass will be attracted to Virtual Magnets. To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

One you cap either Salty Dog special, you will follow the trail of Salty Dog scatters and capture each member of Captain BarkBeard’s crew to find treasure beyond yer wildest dreams! Legend tells of a Crossbones treasure chest, filled with Zeds for whoever opens it! The first pooch you can find is the lovable Cabin Good Boy, check him out above, but who knows what other scally-waggers ye’ll find along the trail!?

And be on the look out… all of these pirate pooches have a chance of scattering their messy friend, the Dirty Dog! He may be a little stinky, but he does have the chance of awarding you one Rover Treat – so don’t throw him in the pound just yet!

We’ve created 6 NEW Badges for you to earn via specific gameplay actions! We’ll show you the first badge and keep the rest a secret. It’s up to you to figure out the requirements for the other badges – good luck!

Flat Disc Scatters are BACK With a NEW Badge!

National Disc Golf Day is coming up this Saturday, so you know what that means… Flat Disc Scatters are BACK! Cap Robbie’s Flat Disc Golf Basket and watch the discs fly! Keep reading for more details!

Limited Time Scatter Details

From the period of Friday, August 4th at 12:00 MHQ through Sunday, August 13th at 23:59 MHQ, when you capture a Flat Disc Golf Basket, up to 3 Discs may be scattered nearby!

The Discs will be visible to any player and will be deployed on the Flat Disc Golf Basket owner’s account. This means that unlike Feathers/Boulders, there are CapOn points for the owner! They expire after 120 minutes, have a capture radius of 300 feet, and you’ll be able to use Rover Treats to capture them as well! These disc scatters will NOT count for deploy streaks, ZeeOps, or clan activity since they are passive deploys.

The rewards for Discs are as follows:

  • Putter Disc
    • Capture: 25 points
    • CapOn: 15 points
  • Mid-Range Disc
    • Capture: 50 points
    • CapOn: 25 points
  • Driver Disc
    • Capture: 75 points
    • CapOn: 35 points

Welcome, CuppaZee!

We have some VERY exciting news here at MHQ that we can’t wait to share! We’re sure you all know and LOVE the amazing app, CuppaZee – and we do too! The creator, Sam Hindess, is doing AMAZING things over there, and his dedication to Munzee and CuppaZee is super inspiring. With all that being said, we’re extremely happy to announce that Sam and CuppaZee are now officially joining the Freeze Tag Family!

Sam started playing Munzee in 2013, being an avid Munzee player for almost a decade before joining Freeze Tag. For over half of that time playing, Sam had been developing CuppaZee, initially a 3rd party companion website (and later mobile app) for the game, regularly expanding its feature set based on the wants and needs of other players.

The CuppaZee app allows Munzee players to track their daily activity and ZeeOps progress, as well as keep track of items in their inventory and the locations of their bouncers. These features have become invaluable to the thousands of players who utilize the app!

This partnership between CuppaZee and Munzee will allow us to bring some very cool updates to you in the near future, so keep an eye out!

And now, a word from Sam:

“It’s awesome to have CuppaZee finally joining the Munzee family. I’m excited to be part of the Freeze Tag Team and look forward to seeing what brilliant ideas we can achieve together in the future!”

Don’t forget to edit the title and the notes of a Greeting Card to add a personal touch! While the capture message will contain your Munzee username as all Greeting Card capture messages do, we think typing in a more specific note will go a long way to creating a more unique and special experience!

Remember that these munzees will be archived 7 days after they are deployed, so make sure your intended recipient captures it before then!
