The Winner of the 2014 Munzee Photo Contest!

After weeks of photo submissions from our players, the 2014 Munzee Photo Contest has found its winner. Among hundreds of submissions, the top 5 photos were chosen and we invited players to our Facebook page to vote on which image perfectly embodied the Munzee experience. The winner, who captured the photo below, is Luciano Reis (fotoluca) and he found the combination of urban construction and rural landscape to be a perfect balance of Munzee’s wide variety of play. Announcing the Munzee Photography Contest

We’re proud to announce a new Munzee Photo Contest for our players! We’re looking for some new promotional images for Munzee and who better than our players to help us with that? We need high-res photographs that embrace the heart of Munzee. Whether it’s wilderness or cityscapes, we want you to show us what you see when you Munzee. Please email all submissions to photocontest@munzee.com. We will take submissions through the end of the month. The photographer that is chosen will win a Munzee prize pack valued at $127.

If your photo is chosen you’ll get:

5 virtuals
5 mystery virtuals
5 rubies
5 diamonds
2 hotels
2 motels
1 social

Although we will only choose one winner, there is a chance that other photos submitted could be used in future Munzee materials, so all submissions become property of Munzee Inc. upon email.

Photo Contest guidelines:

Photos should be of scenery and not focus on a single group of people or faces.
Should not include any previously trademarked brands or items.
All submissions must be owned by the photographer submitting them.
Munzee code of conduct still applies and all photos taken on/in private property must have written approval to be in the running.

Guy Fawkes Day Special Icons

Munzee will have special icons on the map in remembrance of the events of November 5, 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives placed beneath the House of Lords.

From November 4th until November 7th 1,605 dynamite icons will bounce around the world and it’s up to our players to find them. The icons and special map will go live tomorrow morning at 10 AM MHQ time and will disappear at 10 AM on the 7th. Much like authorities had to find the explosives Fawkes had hidden, Munzee players will be tasked with finding the dynamite icons placed throughout the map before it’s too late! Dynamite icons will bounce every 6 hours unless captured before then. By finding at least one dynamite special you’ll also capture Fawkes and be rewarded with a special Guy Fawkes badge. You’ll receive 16 points for capturing a dynamite icon and standard cap on points are in effect. You may not capture your own munzee.

UPDATED: November Clan War Requirements

For the first time in clan war history, clan winners will be determined by reaching each level of the competition and then the overall number of points the clan has earned. For example: Clan MHQ may have 1 million points but they have only achieved level 1. They would be ranked behind all clans achieving levels 2-5 even if the clans had less overall points. Each level has a required number of captures, deploys, and minimum number of overall points in order to receive the reward.

Another new addition to this month’s clan war is a special webisode with each earned level to lead you through a month long Munzee mini-series. In order to help you understand more about this mini-series we’ve created this trailer. Enjoy!

Webisode 1: Earn by November 7th in order to be the first to receive the first webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series. Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 7th. Ex: Code will not be emailed before Nov 7th. Requirements: Capture 10 greenies, Deploy 10 munzees of any type. All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 300 points Rewards: special code to capture, 1 virtual

Webisode 2: Earn by November 12th in order to be the first to receive the second webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series. Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 12th. Requirements: Capture 20 greenies + 10 any type (total 30 for month), Deploy 20 munzees of any type (total for month). All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 750 points (total for month) — Rewards: special code to capture, 1 mace, 1 virtual

Webisode 3: Earn by November 17th in order to be the first to receive the third webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series. Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 17th. Requirements: Capture 30 greenies + 45 any type (total 75 for month), Deploy 50 munzees of any type (total for month). All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 1250 points (total for month).— Rewards: special code to capture, 1 longsword, 1 mystery virtual, 1 diamond

Webisode 4: Earn by November 22nd in order to be the first to receive the fourth webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series. Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 22nd. Requirements: Capture 50 greenies + 100 any type (150 total for month), Deploy 100 munzees of any type (total for month). All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 2000 points (total for month) — Rewards: special code to capture, 1 battle axe, 1 diamond, 1 ruby, 1 motel

Webisode 5: Earn by November 27th in order to be the first to receive the fifth webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series. Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 27th. Requirements: Capture 100 greenies + 250 any type (350 total for month), Deploy 200 munzees of any type (total for month). All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 6000 points (total for month). — Rewards: special code to capture, 1 virtual, 1 mace, 1 longsword, 1 battle axe, 1 hotel, 1 mystery virtual

FAQ:

Does the entire clan have to earn the reward by the posted date to earn the rewards? No. The clan must earn by the date “in order to be first to receive the x webisode”. The rewards may be earned at any time throughout the month, in order.

Will rewards be given out per level before the 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd, or 27th? No. These dates are the earliest each level will be rewarded though players can accumulate and surpass the requirements on Day one if able.

Introducing the Haunted Hotel Munzee!

The road has been long and your game has taken you late into the night. Normally you would end your journey at a Motel, adjacent to a rest stop in the middle of nowhere, but on this dreary night the vacancies are nowhere to be found. You secretly don’t mind because you grew tired of the uncomfortable bed and small quarters long ago. You know it’s time for an upgrade. So you drive past, leaving the neon-lights in your rear view mirror, and look forward to a new place to call home for the night. You pull up to an old Victorian building that has obviously seen better days and head up the long stairway. This establishment may have been top notch back in the day, but time has not been kind and the wooden door creeks open as you enter. You step in as lightning ignites the skyline, unusual for a dry day in October. You shudder, but breathe in relief when you’re met with spacious open rooms. The charm is in it’s character and you’re happy to rest for the night. As you drift off you hear voices and can’t help but realize you’re not alone… This Hotel is filling in quickly.

Sure it may seem like something out of a horror movie, but we’re proud to announce the next progression in the weary traveler line: the Munzee Hotel! Last year we released the Munzee Motel and they have filled up quickly, so the next natural step is to release a Hotel, even if it seems a bit haunted. This new Munzee will be available starting 10 am MHQ time today, Wednesday October 15th, for $4, and as you can imagine it’s a bit of an upgrade from the Motels.

Much like Motels, Hotels are only for premium players to purchase. Premium accounts will be able to purchase 5 Hotels per month, for a cost of $4 each. The owner of the Hotel receives points based on the number of rooms “rented” in their hotel. Rooms are rented on a first come, first serve basis giving players extra motivation to be First to Capture. When the owner deploys a Munzee Hotel it is available with 10 rooms to be occupied by the first 10 players to capture. Each player who captures receives a room, which is actually deploying a Munzee inside the motel, though no additional action is needed by the player. The player will receive residual points based on those who capture the Hotel after them. The earlier you capture a Hotel the more points you receive through incoming residual points.

A Hotel is worth 60 points when full, 40 points cap on when full. The rest of the boring details are here.

Any regular Munzee with zero captures on it can be converted to a Hotel, but Hotels must be at least 2,500 ft away from other Hotels. Hotels can be normal proximity from other munzees, including Motels. In-app Hotel conversion will not be available until the next app update, so players will need to plan ahead or be quick to convert via the website after a deploy. Again, Hotels will go on sale in the Munzee Online Store Wednesday October 15th. Premium users will be credited one free Hotel Wednesday morning, but you have to be a Premium member by Wednesday to receive the credit to your account, so sign up HERE for all sorts of extras.
