Feb Badges and March POTM Requirements are Ready to Roll!

Did you spot a new badge earned this week? Our February POTM criteria rewarded over 1,500 players who have captured and/or deployed daily for over a year. A big thanks to all of you for helping us grow the map! You truly are super beasts!

Now that February has concluded, it’s time to move on to our March POTM requirements. Some of you may have already figured out this month’s theme based off our social media posting, but for those of you unaware, March POTM will be selected based off of hksfarm’s Monthly Munzee Giveaway video contest! Our good friend (and super Munzee Support specialist) Daniel Hammock will be rewarding select players this month based off of creativity in his video contest.

Although some winners of the monthly contest are selected at random, others are personally selected by Hammock based on creativity. The creative winners will win the title of POTM in March and the subsequent POTM badge. A number of players have already received the title of March POTM due to Hammock’s selection for February videos. February’s theme was Munzee Love, so we’re showing those winners some love and awarding their badges today! Our winners thus far, as well as their videos, are listed at the end of the article!

The theme for March’s video contest will be videoing a Munzee at a fitness club or gym. How will you show off your creative cardio? The creative portion of the video contest will have open submission up until March 15 at midnight MHQ time, after which Hammock will be choose the final winners for POTM. The monthly contest will continue until the last day of the month if you’d like to still submit your video for the chance to win his giveaway. Just be sure to have your creative video in by 3/15 at 11:59 pm MHQ time to be eligible for March POTM! Don’t forget to stop by the hksfarm’s Facebook page to read about video terms and guidelines.

Remember that anyone who earned the Player Of The Week badge previously IS able to earn the Player Of The Month badge as well! The criteria for Player Of The Month changes, so even if March isn’t your month, there’s always April! Some months will require player nominations, while other months the winners will be chosen based off of stats or other factors.

Now stop sitting around— it’s time to hit the gym and get started on your video submission!

February GOTM Winners! Featuring Community Stories

Last month we were happy to announce our first ever Garden(s) of the Month winners. We also had the pleasure of recognizing an additional 35 players as Players of the Month for their Virtual Garden buildings skills, as it was our January POTM criteria. This left us with lots of excellent choices to pick from for our February GOTM!

This recognition is meant to honor a variety of our outstanding Virtual Garden builders who have helped to create some of our most memorable gardens. As many of you might recall, GOTM is an extra special award, because all players who deployed in the winning gardens will receive badges as well! Our winning February Virtual Gardens are the Richard Petty Garden, organized by markcase, and the Greer Train Garden, organized by Dlovegrove!

Player Stories

Not only did we enjoy the design and execution of these gardens, but we also selected this month’s winners based off the stories behind the Virtual Gardens. Munzee is a social game, and we love hearing about how gameplay impacts the community in positive ways!

Richard Petty Garden

The Richard Petty Garden earns the distinction of being one of the oldest Munzee Virtual Gardens in North Carolina. It also earns some major bonus points for being blessed by former NASCAR Driver Richard Petty himself!

Mark Case has been a dedicated Munzee player for rounding seven years, a period of which he has spent designing gardens for a variety of players. According to Case, several years ago he received permission to place a geocache on the property of Petty Enterprise. However, he was later asked to remove it due to property violations from overeager players. Case decided that a Munzee Virtual Garden would be the perfect way to honor Petty without disrupting his land.

With Petty’s permission, Case was permitted by Petty Enterprises to use the “43” logo modeled in the garden. With assistance from Craig Williams, Case was able to finish the coding needed to get the garden structured. On January 12, 2016, the Richard Petty Garden was successfully filled in thanks to player contributions. Case currently keeps a lookout for player holes caused by inactivity in order to preserve the garden. He is happy to share that Petty has officially blessed his titular garden, and the two have met in person!

Greer Train Garden

Our second February GOTM win goes to David Lovegrove, who did the tricky work of putting the spreadsheets together for the Greer Train Garden. This set of mini-gardens runs on the real world Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. The master plan for the design was devised by David’s 12-year-old son, Jonathan, and his best friend Henry. These creative young men also came up with their own logo design for the Virtual Garden.

The group’s first Garden in the Greenville area was the Clemson Tiger Paw. However, as the Garden neared completion, the boys begged David to make a garden for Greer, South Carolina where they were concentrating their growth efforts. David desired to design a manageable size so that it could be more easily filled in. The team came up with the perfect solution: a train garden, where everyone fills up the engine one car at a time! The boys designed a logo and brainstormed ideas for the train garden at school every day as they strove to bring their dreams to fruition.

The young friends came up with the master plan for the Garden, while David worked the technicalities of their vision. The idea behind the design was to fill up the locomotive design and tender before adding on cars one-by-one. This layout allows for continual expansion, while allowing the Garden to appear “finished” even as it continues to grow!

This isn’t the only time David has joined forces with his son in relations to Munzee. The father and son duo enjoy collaborating on fun and funny designs, such as “Skunky” based off of Jonathan’s favorite stuffed animal. Now 14-years-old, Jonathan has discovered his passion and possible career route through his love of Munzee.

Jonathan has a huge desire to “Grow Greer,” his local community, in Munzee. This passion led him to researching websites about the city, cementing his lasting love for Greer. This resulted in the mayor of Greer presenting him with a key to the city. Jonathan has built a small media empire centered around positive things about and happenings in Greer via Facebook, Instagram, and www.GreerTidbits.com. He even gives tours!

Jonathan Lovegrove, a young Munzee enthusiast. Lovegrove focuses on building the game in his hometown of Greer, South Carolina and spreading positivity.

Do you know a garden deserving of the title of March GOTM? We’re asking for players to submit already created gardens for the chance to win any of our upcoming Garden(s) of the Month! Just be sure to follow the rules!

Rules for GOTM nominations:

Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

It’s Almost Time for Munzee Madness 8! Details, Sales and More!

It’s almost that time of the year again— Munzee Madness season! That’s right, Sunny California is gearing up for the longest running player run events of the year.

To celebrate the event, the entire California Freeze Tag office will be attending Munzee Madness 8! Freeze Tag will also be hosting their own event in conjunction with the Munzee Madness player sponsored events in order to provide double the fun! Even if you can’t make it out to California to attend the events in person, there are still ways to participate from home.

Munzee Madness Details

Mark your calendars and cancel your plans, because MM8 will take place from Friday, March 8 to Saturday, March 9. You can find the full Munzee Madness schedule at the end of the post. There will be a variety of events for all attendees to participate in!

Are you interested in meeting a portion of the team behind everyone’s favorite global scavenger hunt? The entire Freeze Tag California office will be in attendance, including Craig Holland (Cholland86), Mick Donahoo (fixitman), Mari Rann (Kirikat), and Tamara Sahagun (Raan). There will also be a dinner hosted by Freeze Tag on Saturday night in order to allow players more opportunity to interact with the people behind the scenes after a full day of MM8 Road Rally!

There will be a number of special event badges for players to earn throughout the weekend, as well as an abundance of munzees and specials to capture. No sneak peaks this time! If you want to see the new badge designs, you’ll have to earn them in person…

Virtual Garden Fun for All and Sales!

Whether you can attend the event in person or you’ll be celebrating virtually by playing the game at home, there are a variety of ways you can participate in MM8 regardless of location. We are excited to share the designs of four gardens that will surround the event, so that all players worldwide can earn some CapOn points. Choose from the Craig Park, Ode to 1849, Officer Down, or Ode to q22q17 to deploy in! You can access a listing of a number of Virtual Gardens in the area here.

Why limit yourself to deploying in one Garden? In celebration of MM8, we decided to release some special offers in the Freeze Tag Online Store. Previously, Virtual Trail Munzee Credits could only be purchased in packs of five that included five Virtual Munzees as well. Now, we are releasing individual Virtual Trail Munzee Credits that includes one Virtual Trail Credit and no Virtual Munzees!

Our Virtual collection will now include Temporary Virtuals, Virtual Trail Munzee Credits (multiple), and the Virtual Trail Munzee Credit (single). Only a limited number of Mitmegu will be available for public sale. Each Mitmegu will cost $15, but you can upgrade it with a Bouncer Upgrade credit for an extra $5. The Bouncer Upgrade credit will equip your Mitmegu with the ability to be “nudged” to a new Munzee. This nudge feature can be used up to three times a day (MHQ 24 hour day) after it has sat for a minimum of three hours so that other players have the opportunity to find it.

Munzee 4.0 Is Finally HERE! New Features and Updates Explained!

We know that you have all been patiently waiting for the new and improved 4.0 version of the Munzee app, and we are happy to announce that it has finally arrived! That’s right, the wait is over.

You can download the iOS version of the new app HERE!

You can download the Android version of the new app HERE!

This is an entirely new build, so you will not update your current version 3 of the Munzee app. Instead you will need to search for the new version in your phone’s app store. Please remember that the app may take some time to propagate, so if you don’t see it in the App or Google Play Store, just give it some time. We will be keeping version 3 of the app active temporarily, but we do plan to shut down that version in the near future, so just go ahead and download 4.0 today!

But before you jump into the newly updated game, complete with brand new features, allow us to break down some of our favorite things about 4.0!

The latest version of everyone’s favorite game is a foundation for us to build upon. We consider it a vision for the future, with additional tools being added regularly as we move forward. Due to limitations from version 3, we’ve had to delay some awesome features in the past, but this will limit us no more! We have some big ideas ahead, but for now let’s take a look at what 4.0 has to offer!

Main Feature Updates

New and improved map loading speed.
New square pins for Physical Munzees and round pins for Virtual Munzees.
Updated artwork to include all types in pin form to more precisely show the location of the munzee.
New interactive walkthrough tutorial hosted by our buddy the newly energized Rover.
Reorganization of filters into categories, making them easier to sort through.
Players can now combine multiple premium filters at a time.
Larger, cleaner font throughout the game.
Improved compass that more clearly indicates the Northern point.
Improved follow feature to keep player marker centered on the map.
New in-app announcements system that will deliver news directly to the players.

Additional Updates

The Munzee capture button at the bottom changes between square and round depending on the type selected on the map so you always know which type you’re looking for.
Pouch Creatures and Evolution Munzees now include stage numbers.
New “All Alternamyths” and “All Places” premium filters.
Filters are now applied immediately. Players do not need to save each time they choose filters.
Players can now see what filters they have set for each preset, making it easier to edit and make changes.
Magnet and Special timers now show down to the minutes/seconds.
Added a new “Inventory” section to the profile, making it more clear to new players what they have available to deploy.
Players can now quickly tap to capture from the List view using the new green arrow buttons, instead of sliding the entry in the list then tapping to cap.
Tapping on badge notifications in the activity feed now takes you to that specific badge in your collection.
Added countdown timer to the leaderboards for when it will reset in MHQ time.

Share with Friends

We know that playing Munzee can be a bit overwhelming to new players, but many of our most diehard fans appreciate the complexity and pride that comes with mastering this multi-layered game. Luckily with our new in-app tutorial for new players, it’s easier than ever to introduce new players to Munzee. That’s why we’re asking our players to share 4.0 with their friends and family!

As a limited time extension to our current Munzee Referral Program, we will host a referral contest starting next week! Help us share the new app and Grow the Game for a chance to earn a limited edition badge, prizes, and more! We’ll have more information next week, but this contest will not be retroactive, and it will only run from February 1 through 28.

While you’re waiting for those details, though, head over to the Freeze Tag Online Store and download a free Custom Referral Card. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to introduce new players to the game and get rewarded for it. The Custom Referral Card will contain your personal Referral code to share with new players. The more shares, the more rewards!

We will also be running several sales tomorrow in celebration of the 4.0 update release! There will be a separate blog post detailing those sales today at 12:00 MHQ, and all sales will begin at 12:15 MHQ.

We know this is long overdue, but we can’t explain enough how many possibilities this opens for the future. The whole team has worked so hard for this release, and we’re ready to keep the momentum moving forward! Thank you to the beta testers for their support (and constructive criticisms) throughout this process. This app would not be what it is today if it wasn’t for them.

Today is a special day for the Munzee community, as we are excited to announce our first ever Gardens of the Month winners! This recognition is meant to honor a number of our outstanding players who have helped create some of our favorite Munzee Virtual Gardens. As a way to highlight the achievements of some of the very many people who help make Munzee great, we have created special badges for all players who have deployed in winning gardens.

If these names sound familiar, it’s because these dedicated players also earned our first Players of the Month wins earlier this month.
