Meet Munzee… err… WallaBee: Robbie’s New Office!

The all new MHQ is up and running! We understand that everyone can’t make it to Texas to visit in person though. So to embrace our 2017 theme of “Everyone. Everywhere.” we’re hosting a series of video interviews with staff members about their new offices. This week the focus is on our sister app WallaBee and the WallaBee manager Robbie McGuire! Watch the video below to check out Robbie’s new office.

Team Munzee Tuezday: Chris Houlihan

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. Our team continues to grow ,and we’re excited with the addition of Chris Houlihan.

Name and Title:

Chris Houlihan, Director of Technical Operations

Where are you from?
Flower Mound, Texas

Tell us about yourself:
I graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelors in computer science. Prior to that, I was a math major at the University of Chicago until I realized how much I disliked higher level math. I have been in software development for over 20 years working in defense, telecom, and enterprise software. I transitioned into development management about ten years ago and found that I really enjoyed it. I have never stopped coding, though. I am married and have seven kids at last count.

How long have you worked for Munzee?
One week.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
The team.

What are some of your other hobbies?
Developing games, herding children

Any last words?
Not yet.

Player of the Week: Brian Glaski (cachewhisperer)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is, Brian Glaski (cachewhisperer).

Who are you?
Brian G. aka cachewhisperer

Where in the world do you live?
Currently Orlando, FL

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been a member since 2012

How did you find Munzee?
I was on a road trip with War1man and Rosieree to WV for a Hatfield and McCoy Tour hosted by some great friends. Every now and then along the way, Warren would find a munzee nearby and run back to the car to grab his phone. That night, at dinner in a local restaurant, there was a QR code on a ketchup bottle. Making a joke to YankaBucs about scanning the ketchup munzee, it turned out to be worth 1 point. I was shocked and downloaded the app. That ketchup bottle was my second munzee scanned after a regular virtual.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I enjoy the walking aspect of the game. I’m very competitive with points, but I will never let the original intention of the game to get people out walking for exercise to escape me.

What is on your wish list?
One day, I would like to get over to Europe and see where their Munzee trails bring me. Or maybe even a clan war month with no virtual captures/CapOns. Just physicals. I like a challenge.

Tell us about yourself!
I am a paramedic working my way up with training and experience and eventually have a goal of becoming a firefighter/paramedic in NH.

Other hobbies include:
From time to time I do enjoy taking out the golf clubs and smacking a few around. My game has improved quite a bit lately, so if MHQ is up for a challenge… Haha.

Any last words?
Isn’t this what they ask you before pulling the switch on the electric chair? I’d like to say thanks to the MHQ staff for all that they do. It’s not an easy job pleasing everyone, but there are many that appreciate what you do.

Munzee’s Monthly Giveaway Video Contest!

You may know Daniel Hammock as “hksfarm,” “Support,” or “The Ban Hammer” of Munzee, but did you know he’s quite the Youtube video connoisseur?

Hksfarm hosts the “Munzee’s Monthly Giveaway” video contest where players around the world submit Munzee-themed videos for a chance to win prizes. If you haven’t already you should join his Facebook group and join in on the fun!

The rules are simple:

  • hksfarm posts the theme for month in the “Munzee’s Monthly Giveaway” Facebook group.
  • Players film and edit a Munzee video relating to that theme and upload it to Youtube.
  • Once it’s uploaded, players share it in the Facebook group and their name will be added into the prize drawing.
  • On the last day of the month, submissions will be final and hksfarm will draw a name from those that submitted a video.

In addition for a chance to win prizes, players will also earn a sweet Unicorn badge for participating and the winner will receive the coveted Golden Unicorn badge! To qualify for the badge and giveaway, videos MUST be on YouTube.com and link posted in a separate post, also post your username. No skill or expensive camera equipment are needed because the final drawing is random.

This month’s challenge is to share a video of a deployed munzee in the dark with the moon in the footage, so get ready to adventure through the night!

Player of the Week: Timo Sivonen (Sivontim)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is, Timo Sivonen (Sivontim).

Who are you?
My name is Timo Sivonen, and my username is Sivontim.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Helsinki, Finland.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing since September 2013.

How did you find Munzee?
I was playing another GPS game, looking for hidden Tupperware and found my first Munzee code. I didn’t have a suitable device to scan it. Later, I got a new tablet and decided to test it. I drove 70 km from our cabin to the nearest code and captured my first munzee. I purchases a Premium Membership that same day.

Around my home there were only a few greenies, and for more codes, I needed to drive around the city to capture single codes. The idea of trails came later. Now, there is a huge “candy shop” for the beginners, and I’m still driving around capturing all of the mythologicals.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I like getting out ans seeing places that I would not have found unless there was a munzee there. I have also met many new friends who play the game.

I enjoy the Clan Wars and all kinds of charity campaigns with the specials on the Munzee map.

I like the way the game is constantly changing and growing up.

What is on your wish list?
I would like to get an Emerald Garden in Helsinki.

I would also like the option of upgrading old Mystery Virtuals for a small fee so that those could then be capped again by anyone who capped it previously.

For the events, I would like a new kind of Personal Munzee that players could capture again at every event.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m 46 years old and working as a project manager in the ICT company. If I’m not munzeeing, I’m photographing or editing my pics. I love to “shoot” all kinds of birds and other animals in the wild and at the local zoo.

Other hobbies include:
My hobbies along with Munzee are photography and genealogy.

Any last words?
I would like to thank those whom nominated me. And thank you, MHQ, for keeping the game changing and making it fun. Munzee on!
