Guy Fawkes Day Special Icons

Munzee will have special icons on the map in remembrance of the events of November 5, 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives placed beneath the House of Lords.

From November 4th until November 7th 1,605 dynamite icons will bounce around the world and it’s up to our players to find them. The icons and special map will go live tomorrow morning at 10 AM MHQ time and will disappear at 10 AM on the 7th. Much like authorities had to find the explosives Fawkes had hidden, Munzee players will be tasked with finding the dynamite icons placed throughout the map before it’s too late! Dynamite icons will bounce every 6 hours unless captured before then. By finding at least one dynamite special you’ll also capture Fawkes and be rewarded with a special Guy Fawkes badge. You’ll receive 16 points for capturing a dynamite icon and standard cap on points are in effect. You may not capture your own munzee.

Munzee Player of the Week: Kathy Wade (Way Too Far, Aufbau, Unicorn Hater, Former Munzee Queen of New Jersey)

Munzee supports family in every sense of the word. Whether you take your kids to Munzee with you, your partner begrudgingly goes along or you take your pets on a munzee walk, we love to see families come together. Every so often though that begrudging partner gets a spring in their step and takes over as the household munzer. This week’s Player of the Week is Kathy Wade and although she only started playing with her husband on a double point weekend, she has become hooked and is now a key player in our community. You may know her as Way Too Far on social media, so read on to learn more about Kathy!

Who are you?
OMG! It’s finally my turn!!!!!!! I am Kathy Wade, aka Way Too Far, aka Aufbau, designated unicorn hater and formerly Munzee Queen of NJ.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in a tiny town along the Delaware River – Beverly, NJ.

How long have you played Munzee?
As of today (10/15/14) my account is 1,095 days old. Missed the early bird badge by just a few days.

How did you find Munzee?
My husband (qwade) actually started playing first and I used to tease him for playing such a lame game. One weekend he mentioned that it was double points and decided to go scan a few. I was hooked and haven’t looked back since.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I love the thrill of clan wars and love munzee road trips with Keebs and Bitwiz. My husband rarely munzees anymore, but girlfriend road trips are loads of fun. On our last road trip, I had to give up my Munzee Queen of NJ to Bitwiz. She passed me, and then some. I’ll get it back someday. I also like to encourage new players by doing special deploys for them and leaving responses when I capture one of theirs about finding Munzee Madness on fb.

What is on your wish list?
Number one on my wish list is to have more more more players in my area so that the specials don’t always land on mine! I also love the idea of an intercontinental blast – maybe one each year with the premium membership renewal.

Tell us about yourself!
As for me – I retired from teaching special education in 2014. During a 10 year hiatus from teaching I worked with the Division of Youth and Family services (or whatever it’s called now) and I ran a substance abuse program in a medium security prison. I returned to teaching when I just couldn’t stand not being at home with my kids in the summer. Retirement beats all of that! This is a closely held secret, which I will reveal for the first time right here. I am one of the silliest people I know and take very few things seriously! Ask me about the adventures of Embly Gernumbly, the Royal Purple Collar club, traveling the south with clown noses, snaking Jenn’s house, and on and on. None of this nonsense would be half as much fun without my partners in crime – the OWLs. I am also a friend of Bill’s and have been for 30 years.

Other hobbies include:
Other hobbies include reading, reading, reading, sudoku, meandering through the forest with my dogs every day, volunteering at the local shelter as a dog walker, greeting every dog I see, and being nonsensical. Did I mention that I like to read?

Team Munzee Tuezday: Michael Angel

Alright, well since we missed out on a chance for Meet Munzee Munday, we decided to go ahead and run with a Team Munzee Tuezday. Because why not? Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. We’re proud to announce a new member of Team Munzee this week, our new Android developer Michael Angel! He’s hit the ground running, but we managed to pry his eyes away from code long enough to answer these questions. So read on about Michael!

Name and Title: Michael Angel, Android Developer

Where are you from? Born and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas. I’ve been in the DFW metroplex my whole life, but I have traveled to other parts of Texas – and once to Nashville, Tennessee.

Tell us about yourself: I’m a video game fanatic and life-long programmer/nerd who is in love with the Android operating system. I also like cooking, cycling, archery, complicated board games, and discovering new aspects of life.

How did you find Munzee? Munzee found me! I was about to start a new job, but Munzee reached out to me for my expertise in Android development, which after finding out more about the company I was quite excited to be a part of the team.

How long have you worked for Munzee? I just started but I am hoping to be a strong part of the team for a long time to come and see where the future takes us.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee? The sense of discovering something hidden, yet elegantly simple and near you is intriguing to me. The team of guys here are fantastic, and I see a great deal of potential with what Munzee can do for a real-life interactive game that can bring friends and strangers alike together.

Munzee Player of the Week: Adam Moritz (ActMoritz)

Munzee encourages our players to get outside and explore to find Munzees. The combination of technology and exercise is perfect for anyone, but we especially love to see families join together and Munz. Whether your children play a lot or a little, or your wife encourages your Munzee fandom, the family that Munzees together stays together. Family man and Early Bird Adam Moritz (ActMoritz) may not live in the most populated Munzee area, but he works hard to get his family moving and in turn grow the map. This week’s Player of the Week is a shining example of Munzee and we’re proud to have his family as part of our community!

Who are you?
ActMoritz but, most people call me Stud Muffin!!! Others people call me Adam Moritz

Where in the world do you live?
Just past BFE on the corner of Nowheresville right next to Carman Santiago and Waldo. In the Booming town of Longview, MO with a population of 4 Munzees, 3 of witch are mine.

How long have you played Munzee?
Since the beginning of time!! All 3 years got the badge to prove it! Early bird baby…

How did you find Munzee?
At an event “TNT” introduced me way back when the app SUCKED (:-P Rob). I capped like 5 at the event and didn’t play again till the same event a year later then I got hooked!! The app was 100X more gooder!

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
That they are everywhere and that it’s super easy to play. But, mostly the COMPETITION of competing with friends mostly made through Munzee. This is kids odd as I HATE sports and I am not usually competitive. My Wife finds it funny how obsessed I get if someone passes me or I get close to someone. Making friends that I am closer to than most of my family.

What is on your wish list?
Number one on my list would have to be leveling up after 100!! Ability to change your username at least once. (That ones for my wife 😉 Rob)

Tell us about yourself!
I am pretty awesome, or so they tell me, and I love long walks on the beach. I love traveling as one could probably tell by looking at my Munzee account. I am a steel building detailer and own a small sign shop on the side. I have two boys that are nothing but trouble (they might get that from their momma;-)) several of you guys have probably met them. The oldest loves Munzee the youngest not so much he would rather go hiking and hunt for one of those treasure box GPS game things. Been married to the most smoking hot, beautiful, amazing, and successful woman in the world for 12 years. She Munzees (that’s pretty hot itself) a little. But, I think just to make me happy and pretty sure she really only likes the VM’s and MVM’s.

Other hobbies include?
I may maybe a little obsessed with my hobbies! 😉 Saltwater and Reef aquariums!! Reptiles snakes and lizards, Scuba, Custom show trucks, Hunting, fishing and I little thing called Munzee.

Munzee Player of the Week: Judy Matras (doggonefun)

Munzee is a worldwide scavenger hunt. Emphasis on the word “world.” We see players travel far and wide to play munzee and we’re proud to say many of our players are world travelers, which takes our game to even greater levels. Be it by planes, trains or automobiles, our players will do whatever it takes to munzee at their destination. This week’s Player of the Week isn’t afraid to have her pilot husband fly her to her munzee destination and hopefully soon she’ll make it abroad for an all new Munzee experience. Who are you?
I’m doggonefun otherwise known as Judy Matras.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in the suburbs of Columbia, South Carolina. Columbia is primarily a college town, Go Gamecocks! The fanbase for college sports in the southeast US is as passionate as football in Germany.

How long have you played Munzee?
Since November, 2012.

How did you find Munzee?
My BFF SpriritDogs showed me the app. She said “Check this out…” I said “But there are only 6 in our area…” She said “uh huh… just wait…” I blame her for my addiction to the game.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
This was the hardest question to answer since there are so many things I love about Munzee. I love playing Munzee for “a cause” such as the Ronald McDonald House or Munzember. I love the international fellowship and the player community. I love my clans and the fun we share. I’ve made many friends through this game. I love that I can play for 5 minutes or play for several hours. I love that it gets me out and moving.

What is on your wish list?
I asked for a custom Rover with a border collie head, but Rob has already vetoed this. I would like to have a locationless mystery munzee social. A visit abroad is high on my bucket list. I also wish my BFF would upgrade her old “smart” phone so she can resume game play with me.

Tell us about yourself!
I enjoy games. Card games, board games, GPS games, you name it. I love dogs and dog training. I compete in the sport of dog agility. My goal is to compete at the national level. I work full-time so I can enjoy my hobbies. My husband (doggonepilot) often indulges my enthusiasm for Munzee. Especially if he has the opportunity to fly us from point to point.

Other hobbies include;
Reading, dabbling in creative stuff like painting and photography, outdoor recreation including boating, biking and kayaking.
