Munzee Player of the Week: Debbie Mitchell (debmitc)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Debbie Mitchell (debmitc).

Who are you?
Debbie Mitchell, Munzee name debmitc outdoors

Where in the world do you live?
Joplin, Missouri, USA

How long have you played Munzee?
Since January 2012.

How did you find Munzee?
I read about it on a blog of another geolocation game. It was few months after I read about it before I upgraded my phone and then was able to play. There were only 2 greenies in Joplin when I started. I have enjoyed being a part of helping the game grow.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I enjoy lots about the game, so it is very hard to choose: meeting people and making friends in the game, walking with a purpose, and I really enjoy being in a clan to name just a few. I really enjoyed the chance to go to MHQ a year about and meet the staff. I had so much fun with Rob capping and deploying around Downtown McKinney. I also enjoy the new Zee app and checking it regularly to see where my Munzees are being capped.

with-Rob

What is on your wish list?
I want more badges, especially ones that apply to the greenies. Also, a badge for being FTC on a certain number of Munzees that have been deployed over six months ago.

Tell us about yourself!
IMG_20150512_101155I lived most of my life in Northwest Arkansas before moving to Joplin in 2010. I have been married to my husband, Bobby, for almost 28 years. We own a used auto business which keeps us very busy. I am a mother of two amazing children, Angela (25) and Aaron (19), and two Airedale dogs, Gus and Buttercup. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get my hubby and children interested in Munzee.

Other hobbies include:
I love to travel, especially to visit lighthouses and see waterfalls, thrift store, flea market, and garage sale shopping, hiking, and spending time with my family and my dogs.

Munzee Players of the Week: Griff and Lesley Halliwell (Georiffles)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Players of the Week are Griff and Lesley Halliwell (Georiffles).

Who are you?
I’m Griff and my wife is Lesley, we play as a couple – our player name is Georiffles, which is based around our two names.

Lesley-in-Berlin Griff in Cologne

Where in the world do you live?
We live on the Isle of Portland which is a beautiful spot on the south coast of England, it’s the most southernly point in the county of Dorset. portland
It’s not really an island as it’s attached to the mainland by a narrow causeway, but we’ve been cut off more than once during stormy weather. Portland is famous for its stone and also for its large harbour where the London 2012 Olympic sailing events were hosted.

How long have you played Munzee?
I created our account in August 2011, but neither of us had a smartphone at the time so we didn’t really begin playing until January 2012.

How did you find Munzee?
We’d been playing the other GPS location based game for a little while, various members of the family joined us in doing that. Although we’d started before them, we had been overtaken in finds by my nieces Louise (geoibsons) and Dee and her husband Chris (DarthXrisFaerieDee)
Louise had heard about Munzee on a forum, possibly from a caching friend “rodz” and suggested we give it a try. I created an account and a few weeks later when she visited us on Portland we used her phone to cap the only two Munzees within 20 miles of here! She was FTC on one called “Dorset’s 1st Munzee” and I was FTC on the other.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
We like so many things about Munzee: It definitely gets us out walking. We’ve walked so far sometimes I can’t believe it, if there’s a steady stream of points coming we’ll walk for hours. We love specials and badges, they’re a great incentive to get out and Munzee!
We’ve enjoyed traveling to various Munzee hotspots. Early on we arranged a trip based around the virtual clusters listed on Statzee, it was a combined trip to Berlin and Hamburg. We managed to be #1 for the day 3 times on that trip, typically on scoring about 2,000 points for a full day capping as there were no mysteries back then.
Having made further trips to Hannover and Cologne we made a big trip to Washington, DC and then later to the MHQ Oktoberfest Bash event in McKinney.
It’s been nice meeting fellow players while out and about or when they come capping in the area. We’ve made some good friends along the way, it was fantastic to meet up with other members of the ‘Plankers’ clan in McKinney last year.

Where we live Munzee map
The Plankers had recently won the clan war and meeting Wes (arts5) and his wife Deanna (arts5wife) and at the same event meeting Douglas and Christy (5Daughters and Mrs5Daughters) with three of their beautiful daughters was really fantastic. Yes, Wes, my wife still loves you 🙂
We’ve enjoyed a bit of success in clans, the Plankers recently completed the medal triple-combo by getting the silver. This came on the back of a major success for us with ‘New York Munzee Hunters’ the month before.

What is on your wish list?
Another set of bouncing specials like the ’12 Days of Christmas’ from 2013 would be nice. The Snowman was proving elusive, we now refer to the place where we capped our first Snowman as ‘The Snowman bridge’.
More badges please, particularly those that are a challenge to achieve. We think a Clan MVP badge would be a good addition and create some interesting internal clan rivalry.
I’d like to see a new ‘Millionaire’ special pin to be credited to players with over 1 million points, there are currently only just over 100 players in this category so they would be pretty rare. Unlike the ‘Premium’ gold pins a player would only ever have one of these. There could be a badge for capping 10 or more millionaire specials.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m a mainframe systems software developer, Lesley works part time as a PA. We’ll be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary soon.

Other hobbies include:
Beside a love of traveling, which we both share, I like to do a bit of windsurfing. Even in the UK winter I windsurf whenever possible, just so long as it’s windy. Lesley likes to go to gym classes, swims and reads a lot.

Interest in Munzee statistics and specials has encouraged me to teach myself some web programming skills, I created a little website that records and displays the daily top 20 leaderboard. More recently using the new official Munzee API I’ve split the global top 500 by nationality and to a limited extent created some national league tables.

Munzee Players of the Week: Craig Williams (crawil) and Sue Williams (kj6soz)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Players of the Week are Craig and Sue Williams (crawil and kj6soz, respectively), and they Munzee like mad.

Who are you?
CW: My name is Craig Williams, and I go by the handle “crawil”. It’s not very creative, but when I started playing the other geo game back in 2006, I needed a geonick, and since I didn’t have a “standard” nickname, I used an older computer network login – crawil. CRAig WILliams. Simple, but it works.

SW: kj6soz, Sue WilliamsIceberg

Where in the world do you live?
CW: I live in Fullerton, California, near both Munzee Madness HQ and Yorba Regional Park (home of the Munzee Madness event every March). I also lived in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Tennessee, Ohio, and Finland.

SW: I live in Southern California, about eight miles from Disneyland. I can hear the nightly fireworks from my house.

How long have you played Munzee?
CW: Since December 29, 2011.

SW: Just over 3 years

How did you find Munzee?
CW: Back when Munzee first started, my good friend and occasional caching partner, Elliot (1849), asked me my opinion of a new geolocation game that didn’t involve containers. I thought it sounded really stupid, and I blew him off. (If I had listened to and signed up then, I would have the Early Bird badge!) Sometime later, I was grabbing a few quick caches while my wife Sue (kj6soz) was doing a bit of shopping, and I met aaalady and bonkriss13 at a cache. They mentioned that there was a Munzee in the container, and it finally piqued my interest. I downloaded the app and have had fun ever since!

SW: My husband, crawil, had been playing for a month and asked me to joint he game. We had been caching under just his account for about five years, and we figured that we should start this new hobby with separate accounts.

Munzee Offices

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
CW: Playing the game first with my wife and second with the Munzee Madness Clan

SW: Munzeeing with friends. I enjoy getting a group of Munzeers together and go on a deploy run. I also like working as a team in my Clan to obtain our goals. I think my husband and I wou ld have stopped Munzeeing if it wasn’t for the Clan Wars. It keeps us going out and capping. The other think I enjoy about Munzee is that it gets me and my husband out walking. California is a wonderful place to Munzee all year round!

What is on your wish list?
CW: I would like to see more emphasis put on the lowly greenie through more double or triple point weekends.

SW: I would love to travel to the other areas in the world that have lots of Munzees.

Tell us about yourself!
CW: I have been married to Sue (kj6soz) for over 20 years and have three children: Logan, Emily, and Spencer (ilikecorndogs). I have been with the same employer Family(Chapman University) for 17 years and counting. I also speak enough Finnish to really get myself into trouble.

SW: I am a stay-at-home mother of three and this takes most of my time.

Other hobbies include:
CW: I have been involved with the Boy Scouts of America at the District and Council level for many years, including in positions Scoutingsuch as Unit Commissioner and Wood Badge Troop Guide. Sue, Spencer, and I all earned out Technician-level ham radio licenses a few years ago. I am active in my church and have volunteered in many different areas. I enjoy reading, especially WWII history. I like playing with technology and helping others get the most out of their tech.

SW: I lead the children’s organization at church, which also helps me deal with some of my current and past child-like fellow Munzee Madness Clan members! I do a little bit of a lot of things, but other than Munzee, not a lot of any one thing.

Munzee Player of the Week: Tim Hunniecutt (DT07751)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Tim Hunniecutt, and a family experience led to a Munzee obsession.

Who are you?
My name is Tim Hunniecutt, and my Munzee name is DT07751.ocean

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Lithia, Florida which is outside of Tampa on the Florida Suncoast.

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing with a family account in July 2012 and created my own personal account on January 1, 2013.

How did you find Munzee?
I was on vacation with my wife and our youngest son in the Midwest, and we were walking around the lake shore at Duluth when my wife saw of of the green Munzee stickers. She scanned it and saw it was a game and decided it might be fun for our son to play this as we traveled around. We did not do much at first with it as there were few Munzees to capture. As a New Year’s resolution to get more exercise, we decided Munzee was a fun was to do that, and that was when I created my own account. I still did not really catch the “bug” until I started chasing the Oktoberfest specials in fall of 2013. I have been hooked ever since.

with-wife

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I love many things about Munzee, but the top five would be:

  1. It is an outdoor activity I can do with my family. I can always be found out Munzeeing with my lovely wife, Marie (Hunniees), and our son, Evan (Rekars).
  2. I am an avid traveler, and Munzee always takes me to new places and shows me new locations I would have never discovered on my own. Due to Munzee, we stopped by Cologne on a European vacation and found ourselves exploring many parts of the city tourists normally never enter. It was a beautiful and eye opening experience.
  3. The complex parts of the game that involve cooperation with other players, competing with them, and devising a strategy to accomplish your goals.
  4. Meeting so many other players – I have made a lot of new friends all over the world.
  5. Points! Points! Points!

wdw201406952498121_6946812234_18What is on your wish list?
I am a big fan of the badges and would love to see more added. I especially like the badges linked to game play like those earned by placing or capturing hotels. New badges I would like to see include those for Fitbit steps linked to Munzee activity, badges for Rover owners as their Rovers attain certain levels, and badges for capturing greenies (500, 2500, 5000, 10000) as a way to encourage the walking parts of the game.

Tell us about yourself!
I am retired after working many years in software development. I played many roles in my career from programmer, tester, systems management, implementation, to architecture. Most of my career was at Verizon, and I spent the last ten years there as a Director at Verizon of Engineering systems development. One of those systems actually had to do with scanning bar codes on equipment for managing inventory. We even built a phone app to do the scanning!

moes

Other hobbies include:
I am an active guy and enjoy working out, running, biking, hiking, anything that gets me moving. I have to keep moving because my other hobbies involve eating and drinking. I also love to travel and always enjoy exploring new places.

Munzee Player of the Week: Ole Primdahl (Primdahl)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Ole Primdahl who uses Munzee for family fun and scouting!

Who are you?
My name is Ole Primdahl or just “Primdahl” when Munzee’ing. I’m a proud member of the “Klan Fyrkat” clan, and before that, I was part of the “RosendalKFUMunzee” clan (a Scouts only clan).

DSC_0150

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Hobro, Denmark (smallest of the scandinavian contries), most famous for its viking ring fortress “Fyrkat”, from the 10th century (and now you know how we chose the name for our clan) and more recently our soccer team, who qualified for the primary national league only last year and played far better than anyone expected.

How long have you played Munzee?
I captured my first Munzee in April 2012 and deployed my first in October 2012. Since then, a lot has happened.

How did you find Munzee?
I read about Munzee in a national forum for “the other GPS-game” and almost forgot about it again, but by coincidence I noticed there was a green dot on the map, close to where my Mother-in-Law lives. BANG, that was it – Point of no return.

Next big experience, was introducing my Scouts to Munzee on at nocturnal exhaustion hike with different tasks and competitions. The kids had fun and I had a lot of cap-on points – highly addictive 😉

DSC05767

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
First of all, it is funny and it keeps me off the streets (well, actually it doesn’t, but you know what I mean). Doing something together as a family is great. We do not share ambitions equally, but Munzeeing together, is just so much funnier, than going alone. I enjoy to find out how the new initiatives from Munzee HQ functions and test them on my local Munzee friends.

The clan wars added so much extra to the game. Our clan only consists of local gamers, who all (more or less) know each other. I think the personal touch gives us much more than just Munzee. The only problem is, that outsiders think that Munzee strategy is the only thing we talk about  –  They are probably right, but then again, they are free to join the game 😉

As a scout leader, I have plenty of good experiences with using Munzee in scouting. From personal
experience, I can give you these 3 free tips:

1. Quiz Munzees are great for following a route and checking up on last months theme.
2. One hour in an area with plenty of Munzees. Which team gets the highest score?
3. Don’t do it too often.

DSC05810

Oh yes! And designing urban camouflage Munzees 😉

What is on your wish list?
1. Lots of specials. There is always something to celebrate or remember – this year I would like to see hats all over the map in the month of June to celebrate 200 years of the Battle of Waterloo (and please, not badges for every special – they become devalued in that manner).
2. Badges for capturing NFC and Business Munzees.
3. Fewer points for the deployer on temporary virtual specials – I know this is a delicate subject, but in my opinion, it ruins the game.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m married to Olivia (Olivia) and we have 3 children: Karl 14 (KarlP), Marie 11 (MarieP) and Anne 8 (AnneP). As you see, we didn’t spend to much time and creativity on our usernames 😉
I am 51 years old and works as a manager and lifeguard in a public swimming pool.
I used to spend a lot of my spare time as an officer and instructor in the the Air Branch of the Danish Homeguard (paramilitary service), called ”Luftmeldekorpset”. Our primary task, was to observe and report aircraft at low level, below radar coverage, or in case of our radars being knocked out, to support and guide our defending fighter aircraft. Our organisation was much like the British equivalent ”Royal Observer Corps”, known from the Battle of Britain.
In addition to Danish, I speak English, some German, a little Swedish and a tiny little bit French.

DSC05808

Other hobbies include:
Scouting (if you haven’t guessed it by now). I started as a cub, when I was 6 years old and apart from a few short breaks, I’ve been scouting on, ever since.
Aircraft Recognition and Photography (and everything else aviation). I might be one of those anoraks in the spotters area or by the end of the runway. I don’t spend as much time on this, as I used too, but I still loves going to Airshows and Aircraft Museums with my family.

Spotters

History has always been one of my favorite subjects in school, so most books I read, whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, has a historical theme. I do not have a favorite period, but combined with my interest in planes, WWII naturally fills a large part of my library. When the family is on vacation, my poor children will be dragged around the battlefields, museums, churches, ancient monuments and the like. Fortunately, this kind of places is obvious for Munzeeing.

Occasionally we do “the other GPS-game”, but it’s becoming rarer and rarer and most of the ”boxes with logbooks” we found lately, was by accident, looking for munzees 😉

Munzee Player(s) of the Week: Craig Parchman (Hedge Hopper) and Joni Hobbs (MustangJoni)

This week’s Player of the Week is actually a duo: Craig Parchman (Hedge Hopper) and Joni Hobbs (MustangJoni). Munzee is a community and family, and it’s great to see teammates playing together.

Craig Parchman, a.k.a. Hedge Hopper, and Joni Hobbs, a.k.a. MustangJoni

Where in the world do you live?
The Lone Star State! Specificially, we live in Irving, TX.

How long have you played Munzee?
HH: Since July 2011
MJ: I actually opened my account pretty early (I have an “Early Bird” badge to prove it!), but I had a blackberry phone, so I couldn’t play. I finally updated my phone is 2013 and started playing. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I do, but it is such a blast!
Both: This game is so different from the one we were playing when we started. We love the innovation of the game!

How did you find Munzee?
HH: I was at a caching event and someone deployed one on a handrail outside the restaurant.
MJ: I don’t really remember. I think I was at an event and some friends were talking about it.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
HH: Clan Wars. I am a founding member for the Lone Star QRazy clan. I enjoy the strategy and the involvement of my fellow clan members to stay a super chuck clan level.
MJ: Oh, the list is long, but I think my very favorite thing is the clan I belong to. We have such a great group of fun players, and we have been together for the most part for over a year. I also love specials. They are so fun to try and race out and cap! I consider myself and Icon Collector! Events are also so fun! Munzee players are the best to hang out with!
Both: We also enjoy creating trails of specials! We have three high point trails in Irving. They are full of weapons, jewels, and mysteries! They are nice walks around lakes!

253251_10204729326610007_212776262581742190_n

What is on your wish list?
HH: A listing of what types and how many Munzees for a bomb blast prior to deploying.
MJ: An upgrade to the app for Hotels and trails and other credit items. I’d also like to be able to see what I’ve capped during the day. MoHH virgin fallsre stats in the app would be great! Oh, and I would love a bomb where that would only cap special virts. For example, the heart virts that are out now.

Tell us about yourself!
HH: I am a native Texan, grandparent and semi-retired from the electrical construction business. I love the outdoors. As a pup, I backpacked the Continental Divide Trail from New Mexico to Wyoming, most of the Ozark Highlands Trail in Arkansas when it was just a line on a topo map, most of the Ouachita Trail in Arkansas/Oklahoma, parts of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington, the Appalachian Trail thru Smokey Mountain National Park and lots of trails in Alaska.
MJ: I was born in Texas, but as an Air Force brat, we’ve lived all over. Of course, I ended up back in Texas. I met Hedge Hopper about 9 years ago, and we’ve been a team ever since!

10609429_10204723887234026_4699991368192891281_nBoth: We love to travel and hike. We have traveled thousands of miles by car and haven’t killed each other yet! That is quite an accomplishment.

Other hobbies include;
HH: Anything outside…camping, hiking, caching, and fly fishing for trout.
MJ: I like Cross stitching and other crafts. I love making Christmas ornaments all year. I’m also a crazy cat lady. We’ve rescued 3 kitties, and love our furbabies! Don’t shop, Adopt!

Munzee Player of the Week: Don Pulda (Pulda1)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Don Pulda (Pulda1), and he loves Germany. No, seriously. He REALLY loves Germany.

Who are you?photo
Don Pulda, a.k.a Pulda1

Where in the world do you live?
Appleton, WI

How long have you played Munzee?
Since January 6, 2012

How did you find Munzee?
I first saw the game in 2011, there was a Munzee zip tied to a tree, but I didn’t have the app so I didn’t scan anything until I was at an event in Louisville, KY. I downloaded the Munzee app right there and started playing.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I love to deploy Munzees and seeing the points come in from all my deploys. I love creating Mystery trails, ranking 20th worldwide with 603 Mysteries. I currently am ranked 28th worldwide as top dployer with 5363 deploys. I’m in 3rd place in Munzee trails. If I’m not working, I’m outside. Whether rain or snow, nothing stops me from getting out and playing this game. It’s an addiction. I made a goal to get myself a cap and deploy a day and have been successful for 470 days as of today and continuing to at least hit 1000 days in a row.

What is on your wish list?
To visit Germany. Anyone that knows me knows I’m a German nut(case). I would love to get together with Munzee players from Amsterdam, Switzerland, and Germany.

Tell us about yourself!
Well traveled, been to Germany 8 times, next visit will be to Munzee.  I enjoy and have enjoyed traveling to different states like St. Louis, MO, Franklin, TN, McKinney, TX for Munzee events, hitting the huge virtual fields and meeting other Munzee players. Last September I rode my motorcycle 24 hours to Canada and back just for a few Munzees and to get the Whomp Nation Munzee icon.  Munzee is about all I do outside of work, it’s a passion for me. I enjoy being part of Wisconsin Excursion clan. We have a solid team that goes for the top level every month and always make our goal.  I just hosted our first official munzee event with 17 attendees. Hoping to make another event later this summer. I’d love to meet more players and make our area known for a great city to Munzee in.

Munzee Player of the Week: Raymond Keegstra (ReeJ)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Raymond Keegstra (ReeJ), and he caught “the Munzee virus” almost two years ago.

Who are you?
My name is Raymond Keegstra aka ReeJ, a proud Munzee player in clan “Phoenix Rising”.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in IJhorst a little village near Zwolle. (A famous Munzee city of The Netherlands)

How long have you played Munzee?
700+ days, I got the Munzee virus around April 30, 2013. (I had previously created an account, but not yet played)

How did you find Munzee?
On April 30, 2013 I saw a big QR code on a commercial info sign.  This was not a Munzee, just a commercial URL QR-code. It reminded me directly of a story my friend had told me a few months before about Munzee.  While standing there I immediately installed the Android App,  just 2 meters beyond the big QR was a real Munzee. This was my first 5 points and the beginning of Munzee for me.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I really enjoy meeting other players and having a great time playing together. Also, the nice trips in the Netherlands and Germany (especially Cologne) with friends of my old clan.   Oh, let’s not forget the Clan Wars! Together as a team making it to the end of the month; winning a lot of Maces/Longsword/Ruby and other toys.

What is on your wish list?
To stay the Number 1 in the Netherlands 😉 and of course a trip to America. Seriously ….I want to go to the Franklin Munzee Bash event / April 17,18 – 2015 to meet the friends of my Clan “Phoenix Rising”. (but i need a sponsor!)

Tell us about yourself!
I’m a network engineer of Caase.com (Worldwide Microsoft Cloud Partner of the Year 2014). The father of 2 lovely boys Roel (3) and Joris (1) you can see them in the pictures. Not to forget my lovely girlfriend Wietske, who is the biggest anti-munzee person in the world, but always there for me! She loves cycling more!  (Please feel free to add many munzees at mountain area’s so Wietske and I can combine our hobbies on holidays)  😉

Other hobbies include;
When I’m not munzeeing you can find me on the beach or forests for a hike. (Then Wietske is near me….haha….) And of course other geolocation games, working with computers and Smartphones!

ReeJ also included his social, so cap away!
