Happy Australia Day from Shepp-Zee!

CZeeO Rob Vardeman and Munzee Events Manager Louise Gibson are down under celebrating Australia Day this week in Shepp-Zee, Australia!

In coordination with Munzee events in the area the Shepparton City Council has changed their name for the day and adopted our -Zee suffix! The request for the name change came from Rob Steer, a local Shepparton player, who connected Munzee with Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation, a group that raises national awareness of organ and tissue donation through the sales of rainbow shoelaces.

On behalf of our players, Munzee is proud to announce a donation of $2,500 to the organization, which was developed by Kim and Allan Turner the parents of Zaidee. Based on the creation of two rainbow shoelace virtual gardens, Munzee donated a dollar for each Rainbow MVM deployed by players across the world. The gardens are located near Zaidee’s former primary school where a mural and dedication to her legacy can be found.

If you’re in the area, please join in the fun at one of the Munzee events in Shepp-Zee or in the Houston, TX area this weekend! You can find out more about Munzee Events HERE.

Thank you to Shepparton City Council for welcoming Munzee to your city! Thank you to Zadiee’s Rainbow Foundation for all that you do! Thank you to all of our players for getting behind this great cause! #E1EW #MunzEE #MunzeeOn!

Mythological Munzee Coinz and Pins!

We’re excited to announce the release of the next set of Munzee Coinz featuring The Mythological Munzees! You’ll soon be able to track Unicorn, Leprechaun, Dragon and Yeti munzees with these limited edition coins.

As with previous Munzee Coinz, each coin has a distinct Munzee code and an Extagz code on the back. The Mythological Coinz can also be set to track each individual type by editing the coin’s settings on your Munzee online profile. By enabling this feature it will exclusively track every time you capture that particular Mythological Munzee. You can then see that tracking data on your Munzee online profile page.

For example: If you enable this feature for a Yeti coin it will only track the Yeti munzees you have captured.

Due to the overwhelming response from our Coinz of The Month Club signups we have decided to expand our initial Mythological coin stock to include Mythological Munzee lapel pins as well. These pins will work just like Coinz, but once you purchase the pin the coin code will automatically be added to your account. Since this wasn’t initially planned the pins will not have the coin code imprinted on the back, but you can view this coin’s code on your Munzee online profile so you can still have others discover your coin.

Coins and lapel pins will go on sale Thursday January 26th at 3 PM MHQ Time in the Munzee online store. Munzee Coinz will cost $10 and and lapel pins with coin codes will cost $11. Please note that supplies are very limited. Players will be able to buy all 4 Mythologicals, but will be limited to either one coin or one pin.

For example: You can buy a leprechaun coin and a yeti pin, but you cannot buy a leprechaun pin and a leprechaun coin.

Follow THIS LINK to find both Coinz and Pinz!

Places Munzees Recommendations

We’re excited to expand our Places Munzees to new locations! However, we need your help! We’re looking for recommendations for new locations to deploy Places Munzees. In addition, we are opening up the Stadium Places type to all sports. These locations will still need to fall under the two current categories of Places Munzees: Stadiums and Airports.

You can follow this link to a Google Form where you can tell us the Type of Place, Location Name (i.e. name of the stadium or airport), and the city/state/country. This form will be live until Wednesday, January 25th at 23:59 MHQ time.

Thanks in advance for your input, and Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Guy Henville (RaggedRobin)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Guy Henville (RaggedRobin).

Who are you?

My name is Guy Henville. My Munzee name is RaggedRobin**. RaggedRobin is my chosen Munzee name as for a reason only know to me. I have a wild passion for a wild flower called “Ragged Robin”.

** The name (Ragged Robin) chosen as a Munzee pseudonym has no connection with any similar sounding cartoon character, business, person or persons in the UK or World Wide, but related to the perennial herb (Lychnis flos-cuculi).

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Webridge, Surrey UK, a town by the River Way in the Elmbridge district of Surrey. It is bounded to the north by the River Thames at the mouth of the Wey, from which it gets its name. It is an outlying suburban town within the Greater London Urban Area, 16 miles (25 km) southwest of Central London.

How long have you played Munzee?
I tried to play Munzee in the early days (2011), but as I only owned a Blackberry mobile, I was held back until I was strongly advised to change to an iPhone in 2012. So, in August 2012, I became a Premium Member and have been since then.

How did you find Munzee?
I have always had a passion for treasure hunting. One day in 2011, I was out and about looking for a hidden box in the woods near my home. I located the cache, and on the inside of the lid was a square stickers with small patterned black shapes on it. It said “Scan me for points”, and there was a website in green saying www.munzee.com. Well, I tried with my phone but nothing happened, so I took a picture of the sticker. When home, I went online and found the website. The rest, you might say, is history.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
What is there not to enjoy when playing Munzee? It gets you out into the world, seeing new locations and often places you would normally never visit. Munzee absorbs you into its world and gets you to feel part of its community. Clan wars is a good example, with a clan of 10 players all supporting each other and playing along together as one. I started up a clan of my own called “Elmbridge Hundred Clan of 1086”, and we are an international team of players . We have lost a few team players over the wars but we have kept up the fighting spirit with loyal core players. 1. Leea1401. ?? 2. BaDo. ?? 3. Gelad. ?? 4. J1Huisman. ?? They all started with me in 2012. And a big thank you to my other team players too..

What is on your wish list?
I am hard pressed to add a personal wish list as MHQ seems to keep the gameplay up to date regularly. We get new badges almost daily, and new Munzee game pieces, too. The Munzee Coinz have added an extra edge to the game, and I am looking forward to owning a complete series of coins, so that’s on my wish list. I would love to have a badge for the highest number of socials deployed.

Tell us about yourself!
I love socials. They are great for displaying ones own feelings in a social/sharing way.
I love the challenge and fun while being out and about. My Fitbit tracks my steps, and I have extra incentive to exercise, too.
I am currently working as a Building Surveyor for a Property Maintenance Team in Surrey near where I live, so handy with little traveling.

Other hobbies include:
My hobbies along with Munzeeing are walking, photography, architecture, and caching. I also have a passion for gadgets.

Any last words?
I would like to thank all of the Munzee team for their skill in keeping us playing and providing us all with a really entertaining game. I have added a special social to celebrate being POTW.

Am I really POTW?… me thinks!!!

Cheers everyone, and keep on Munzeeing…

RaggedRobin has included some socials, so cap away!

UPDATE: Coinz Of The Month Club

WOW- The first signup for the Coinz Of The Month Club was a HUGE hit and ended in mere minutes. Unfortunately mere minutes isn’t nearly enough time to give everyone a chance to purchase so our supply definitely didn’t meet demand. Admittedly we wanted to roll this new subscription service out slowly, but the response has been overwhelming and we will have to plan accordingly.

We have already ordered more of January’s Coinz.  Unfortunately since there is such a long production time those Coinz will not be available for a few weeks. To make up for this we will put the next round of January Coinz for sale in the Munzee Online Store once we have received them.

NOTE that this will not add you to the Club subscription, this will be just to purchase those Coinz.

Based on the excitement around Coinz the MHQ staff are working hard to reconfigure this subscription experience, so stay tuned for more info!

We want to thank all of you for your interest and patience regarding Coinz Of The Month Club. We have some exciting stuff coming in the months ahead!

Featured Munzee Toolkit: Maria Dahlin (Questing4)

One of the best parts about Munzee is that you can play how you want. Everyone goes about playing a bit differently, and that leads to some very creative and innovative uses of objects. From containers to bags to maintenance, we always encounter something new when we meet players. We want to showcase your Munzee Toolkits to see how you play the game and possibly even inspire other players who may need help. This week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes from Maria Dahlin (Questing4).

Questing4 from Brisbane, Queensland

What’s in your Munzee Toolkit?

I have tried to keep it small, but the bag keeps growing. It has 5 pockets, and sometimes, I really need more!!

The middle pocket keeps my Munzee tins and, of course, back up munzees in case I run out. When I get down to 50 generics, I buy more as I would have to no have any. LOL. This pocket also houses the selfie stick which has come in very handy when the munzees are out of arms length. For several that have been behind construction fences, the selfie stick has done the job.

Being in the tropics, a must have is insect repellent and sun screen.

The other pocket has all of the regular stuff: silicon for sticking (I also repair others if needed), tree tags, zip ties, etc.

The back pocket has two back up batteries because you always need power. Mind you, as they have a really large recharge capacity, I haven’t even exhausted one of them yet, so I really have no idea why I carry two!!

The small front pocket holds tissues, money for coffee when I have walked far enough and need a respite, and the all important Personal Munzee!

I also carry around screw drivers, scissors, and, oh, the best thing is a craft scalpel. It has been awesome to repair munzees that have been painted over as it just scrapes the paint away.

I try to keep it simple. I did carry around a hammer and nails as well, but that really made the bag heavy. Thankfully, zip ties normally will cover the same job.

If you have a Munzee Toolkit that you’d like to show off, you can email us at iloveyou@munzee.com with the subject “Munzee Toolkit”. Make sure to include:

  • Your username and where you are from.
  • A few high quality photos.
  • A list of what each item is and how you use it.
  • What made you decide to use those items.
  • Any other relevant details.

We want to see your creativity and learn how you play. Show us what you’ve got!

Munzee on!

Alongside new Coins every month, Coinz Of The Month subscribers will also earn an awesome new badge just for joining!

Tell Us About Your Easter Traditions

Last year was a great year for events, and we want to make 2017 even better. As we plan for this year’s events, we want to incorporate our Everyone. Everywhere. theme and recognize our worldwide community. That begins with Easter events.

For the Easter event packages, we would like to reflect some of the worldwide Easter traditions. We’ve created a Google Form where you can tell us about your Easter traditions, e.g. Easter Bonnets, Easter Egg Hunts, Easter Parades, etc. These are community events and should reflect that.

We can’t wait to hear from you!

Munzee on!
