Help Our Friends Down Under With The Australia Relief Virtual Garden!

UPDATE 1/15/2020:

All the Kangaroo Garden in Adelaide, the Koala Garden in Melbourne, and the Wombat Garden in Sydney are all SOLD OUT. Thank you all for your support! 

We have also updated the donation locations to better match the areas of the gardens. The funds raised from the Melbourne Koala Garden will actually be sent to the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the funds raised from the new Sydney Wombat Garden will be sent to the NSW Rural Fire Service. The gardens are the same size so there is no difference in donation amount assuming all are sold. Apologies for the confusion on our part!

Last week we announced some special guests were attending the upcoming Australia Day events Down Under, but we also mentioned some possible opportunities to support those affected by the wildfires. We’ve probably all watched the destruction taking place in Australia from the wildfires and we wanted to help in some way.

One virtual munzee will automatically be deployed in the Sydney Garden after it has been purchased. 30% of the proceeds from this item will support emergency relief efforts through a donation to the The NSW Rural Fire Service. Event Spotlight: FL Suncoast Event III

While Munzee can certainly be a solo game if you choose, there’s no denying the appeal in meeting others who share your interests. Munzee Events are perhaps the best example of this, as they allow you to meet both old and new players in a safe, friendly environment. On top of that, there are usually activities, games, and — if you’re lucky — goodie bags! That being said, planning events requires a considerable amount of effort. So, to make it easier for prospective hosts (and maybe even recurring hosts), we decided to put the spotlight on past events, Munzee-Toolkit style! We hope this series of posts will inspire you to try hosting an event if you never have before, or provide you with ideas to spice up future events if you’re an old hand at it!

Today we’re featuring the FL Suncoast Event III, which took place on January 14, 2017 at Medard Park in Plant City, FL and was hosted by hunniees, dt07751, Jafo43, and EagleDadandXenia.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

The Suncoast Event is held in the Florida Munzee belt in central Florida and is the largest munzee event held in the US, not associated with Geowoodstock or Freeze Tag. The Suncoast event is actually a series of Munzee events held throughout the weekend in various locations throughout Florida’s Suncoast. While these events are held over the holiday weekend in January, we can guarantee the location sites are always snow free. :-).

We have a team of hosts who make this event possible so that we may provide a lunch of walking tacos, donuts, and sweet treats for our attendees and give away prizes to registrants without charge.

We try to provide a weekend filled with fun, Munzee, badges, icons, and a game or two of Eventzee. Our attendees also are provided with a map of Florida gardens (goo.gl/tikFn3) to help our guests maximize their points over the weekend.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

(1) Have your events and Eventzee go live before your event begins. This will allow you time to assure everything is working properly and resolve any issues identified before all your attendees arrive.

(2) Identify a great group of hosts who are willing to work together to assure success.

(3) Keep it simple. If you try to do too much, your attendees won’t have time to chat or enjoy the event.

(4) Have fun!

What made your event unique?

Our event is held in a great snow-free location in Florida with access to millions of munzee points. While the food and prizes stay the same, we try to vary the event sites and offer new gardens for capping each year.

Elvis’s Glasses Have Left the Building!

It’s a well-known fact in the Munzee community that we are fans of the The King. Dylan has even graced an event in his likeness! Following the success of last week’s special Spectacular Spectacles, our second 20/20 Vision Munzee will add a little rock-and-roll to your wardrobe with its conveniently attached sideburns! These beauties were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Time to fry up some peanut butter and banana sandwiches!

Only one pair of The King’s Sunglasses will be deployed, and it will bounce to all colors of virtual munzees every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Virtual Magnets though so be sure to stock up! 

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing The King’s Sunglasses will add this rockin’ T-See-B badge to your collection! Remember, down the line we’ll be putting out an overall capture line, so don’t forget to check back for updates.

Elvis was a prolific artist, releasing many timeless classics such as “Burning Love,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” and “Hound Dog”! His talent also translated well to both the big and small screens, racking up quite a few film and TV credits. If you’ve experienced every piece of media about Elvis, but still want more, you may be excited to hear a new biopic is scheduled for release next year!

You’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. More unique 20/20 Vision specials will launch throughout the year so keep on the lookout — you won’t want to miss out on these trendy lenses!

Foresight is 20/20 with these New Specials!

This Throwback Thursday harkens back to the joys of yesteryear with an equally special announcement. Following the success of last year’s Global Grub specials, we are excited to announce that our first of two dozen 20/20 Vision specials for the year will be launching this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. If you use reading glasses, make sure you have them equipped so you can learn all about these special accessories!

The 20/20 Vision specials are very rare munzees that will bounce around the world for the remainder of the year. That means you’ll be spending the next twelve months capturing pins featuring 24 different pairs of glasses in order to earn their corresponding badges. We hope spotting these rare munzees will help to train and improve your vision!

Our first 20/20 Vision special to launch is the Spectacular Spectacles Munzee! This physical munzee, features a pair of plain black frames. These may seem a little basic, but don’t worry there’s all sorts of eye-catching eyewear in store! Only one will be deployed, and it will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Magnets though so be sure to stock up! 


Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Players will earn a badge for each different 20/20 Vision Munzee they capture starting with the Perfect Vision badge for capturing the Spectacular Spectacles pin! Down the line, we’ll also be putting out an overall capture line, so stay tuned for more.

Each 20/20 Vision Munzee will go live at 15:00 MHQ on their assigned day. We’re not announcing when each launch will be, but we expect to release a couple specials each month.

All 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. Until then, you’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own. Although there is only one Spectacular Spectacles 20/20 Vision Special, future releases may include more. You’ll just have to wait and see! Some of these specials will be physical, while others will be virtual. Keep in mind that virtuals will not be blastable.

2019 Yearly Leaderboard Badges!

At first glance, Munzee seems like a pretty simple game. Scan physical munzees to get points. Tap on virtual munzees to get even more points. There are different types of physical munzees and different types of virtual munzees that award you with varying numbers of points. Simple, right?

What’s not so simple is how to stay on top of all the numerous active players! While more established players do have an advantage in terms of deployed munzees (rake in those CapOn points!), they face difficulties in finding munzees to cap, especially if they are active in Clan Wars! Taking advantage of special points days, active Flat Friends days, and other strategies are necessary to maintain or improve their ranking.

For the first time in Munzee History we are happy to recognize the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place on the overall yearly leaderboard for 2019! These accomplished players are, as follows:

January 2020 MunzPak Contents Revealed!

December GOTM Winners!

December is always packed with activities — this month was no exception with Ninja-bread Men specials, an Ornament Design Contest, Advent Calendar announcements, and fun fashions and staff at Christmas events, to name a few! Before the year is out, we wanted to give one last gift to some lucky Munzee players! We are happy to announce the winners of the December Garden of the Month (GOTM), give one last reminder for December Player of the Month (POTM), and announce the criteria for January POTM! The badges for December GOTM and POTM will be awarded in early January, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

December GOTM

This month we wanted to highlight two gardens depicting adorable Santa’s helpers. Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Bearmomscouter’s Xmas Polar Bear, designed by kelkavcvt, and the Pinguin Sennelager, designed by rabe85, as our winning December GOTM! The gardens will appear as follows:

This sweet bear resembles a cute graham cracker or chocolate treat!

This garden was created last year for the third annual NJ Fire Christmas Party event! Attendees were able to view antique firefighting equipment at the NJ Fire Museum and participate in a mug contest! What a unique and special way to celebrate with fellow Munzee players!

What’s black, white, and red all over? This beauty!

Creator rabe85 was able to capture the cute, bulbous shape of a penguin’s body by making it larger in size, which allowed for gentle curves in its design. Unlike the Xmas Polar Bear garden, this garden was completed quite recently (just 2 days before this article was first drafted!). Thankfully, players were able to fill it in the nick of time!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

December POTM

December’s POTM’s requirements put the emphasis on event attendees. All you have to do is take a photo at a Christmas event and add it to the Event Indicator pin for that event.

All players who meet that requirement will receive the following POTM badge. If you have some photos still sitting on your device, you still have a few hours left! You can expect to see the badge in early January.

January POTM Requirements

For January’s POTM we want you all to nominate players who will brave the weather rain or shine to chase down munzees. We’re looking for Weather Warriors! They’re not afraid to beat the heat, and the snow never bothered them anyway. Tornados will have to wait if there’s a bouncer nearby. They might take this game a little too seriously, but we want to award them for their bravery!

As in the previous months, this unique POTM badge is eligible for any player to earn regardless of previous wins. The badge will appear as follows:

New Year’s Resolution Streak Badges Return!

Last year we introduced our Resolution Streak Badges. Each month had a different goal for personal growth to focus on, ranging from the simple and specific (August’s “Read More”) to the more complex and broad (December’s “Give More”). We love reading the comments on these posts to learn how our players have achieved these monthly goals in different ways! To continue our journey of self-improvement, we decided to renew this badge line for 2020!

This year, we wanted to bring back the focus to one of the biggest benefits our game has — the ability to make being active fun! Each month will focus on a popular exercise. Who knows, you might be inspired to add one to your routine! Similar to the Super Streak badges all you have to do is capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. If you can make it through the whole month you’ll be awarded a badge themed to that month’s resolution goal!

To ease into this theme without too many sore muscles, we decided to keep this month simple and highlight the tried-and-true Jumping Jack! We hope just thinking about them won’t make you weak in the knees!

Did you know?

The American origins for this exercise can be traced back to World War I, believed to be developed by an Army Officer and inspired by a once-popular children’s toy which made a similar motion to the exercise. In the United Kingdom, this exercise is called a “Star Jump” due to the shape your body makes when doing this exercise. Perhaps we’ll try out this alternative name as we converse about our New Year’s Resolutions!

Jumping jacks are a great cardio exercise. If the standard jumping jack is actually tough on your knees, there are a few ways to reduce the pain — make sure you are on a level surface, wear good shock-absorbing shoes, keep your knees slightly bent, and try to keep your jumps gentle as well. If shoulder pain is a concern, try half jacks, which are the same as regular jumping jacks except that you bring your arms up halfway. Of course, please exercise (pun intended) extreme caution when trying this out. Consult your doctor before starting a new exercise routine, and always listen to your body. Stop when you feel too much pain. A little pain is okay — no pain, no gain, right? But don’t push yourself way past what your body is capable of**. All exercises have modifications to accommodate all body types.

We know capping a munzee each day won’t magically make you more fit, but we hope as you work towards this capture streak you think about squeezing in a few reps! Any movement is better than none at all! We’re all in this together and if nothing else it will help you get one step closer to the yearlong capture and deploy streak badges. We’ll have a different resolution badge design each month, but try and keep up with your resolutions throughout the year! We believe in you!

We’re keeping in mind that not all clans will have 10 members now and also making the competition more open amongst the levels.
