UPDATED: November Clan War Requirements

For the first time in clan war history, clan winners will be determined by reaching each level of the competition and then the overall number of points the clan has earned.  For example: Clan MHQ may have 1 million points but they have only achieved level 1.  They would be ranked behind all clans achieving levels 2-5 even if the clans had less overall points.  Each level has a required number of captures, deploys, and minimum number of overall points in order to receive the reward.

Another new addition to this month’s clan war is a special webisode with each earned level to lead you through a month long Munzee mini-series.  In order to help you understand more about this mini-series we’ve created this trailer. Enjoy!

Please see the updated FAQ at the bottom of this blog post!

Webisode 1:  Earn by November 7th in order to be the first to receive the first webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series.  Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 7th.  Ex: Code will not be emailed before Nov 7th.  Requirements: Capture 10 greenies, Deploy 10 munzees of any type. All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 300 points   Rewards: special code to capture, 1 virtual

Webisode 2: Earn by November 12th in order to be the first to receive the second webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series.  Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 12th.  Requirements: Capture 20 greenies + 10 any type (total 30 for month), Deploy 20 munzees of any type (total for month).  All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 750 points (total for month) —  Rewards: special code to capture, 1 mace, 1 virtual

Webisode 3: Earn by November 17th in order to be the first to receive the third webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series.  Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 17th.   Requirements: Capture 30 greenies + 45 any type (total 75 for month), Deploy 50 munzees of any type (total for month).  All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 1250 points (total for month).—  Rewards: special code to capture, 1 longsword, 1 mystery virtual, 1 diamond

Webisode 4: Earn by November 22nd in order to be the first to receive the fourth webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series.  Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 22nd.  Requirements: Capture 50 greenies + 100 any type (150 total for month), Deploy 100 munzees of any type (total for month).  All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 2000 points (total for month) — Rewards: special code to capture, 1 battle axe, 1 diamond, 1 ruby, 1 motel

Webisode 5: Earn by November 27th in order to be the first to receive the fifth webisode in the Tale of Trails mini-series.  Special code will be emailed to those who achieve this level no sooner than November 27th.  Requirements: Capture 100 greenies + 250 any type (350 total for month), Deploy 200 munzees of any type (total for month).  All 10 clan members must have a minimum of 6000 points (total for month).  — Rewards: special code to capture, 1 virtual, 1 mace, 1 longsword, 1 battle axe, 1 hotel, 1 mystery virtual

FAQ:

Does the entire clan have to earn the reward by the posted date to earn the rewards?  No. The clan must earn by the date “in order to be first to receive the x webisode”. The rewards may be earned at any time throughout the month, in order.

Will rewards be given out per level before the 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd, or 27th?  No. These dates are the earliest each level will be rewarded though players can accumulate and surpass the requirements on Day one if able.

Introducing the Official Munzee Virtual Garden!

MunzeeGarden_720px

Inspired by the beautiful virtual gardens our players have grown across the map, Team Munzee is proud to announce the first official Munzee Virtual Garden! Located approximately 5 miles from MHQ, we hope for this to be a highlight when players visit us in McKinney, Texas. Like all of the other gardens out there we want our players to be a part of this monument, so Munzee is offering a very limited amount of pins in the store until supplies last.

For $10 you can be a part of this virtual garden, which will spell the word “Munzee” on the map. No work is necessary on your part to deploy this virtual pin, it will be assigned coordinates and deployed at time of purchase. You may edit the name and notes if you choose. LIMITED TO ONE PER PLAYER ACCOUNT.

When you purchase the Munzee Virtual Pin you get:

  • Limited Edition badge, only available to those who purchase a pin.
  • Points: 10 to owner on deploy. 10 to owner as residual on each cap. 10 to capper.
  • A limited edition pin permanently deployed automatically by Munzee on your account.

These pins will be very popular especially with the Garden’s proximity to MHQ and the upcoming Oktoberfest, so what if they all sell out? No worries, Munzee has plans for additional official gardens to be deployed all over the world in the coming months. More details soon. Team Munzee was so impressed with the unofficial virtual gardens built by players that we simply wanted one of our own. Unofficial gardens are greatly appreciated and will continue to be an integral part of the overall game. This is intended as a nod to the creativity of our players in an official manner.

Oh and before we forget, this garden will also serve as the introduction of a new shimmering pin you’ll only find somewhere over the rainbow. Remember, you’re not in Kansas anymore…

Announcing the ALS Ice Cube Special Virtual

ALSBadge_720The Texas heat may be sweltering, but Team Munzee has caught the cold! This morning at the Munzee Marketplace Team Munzee took part in the ever growing ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and we’re happy to announce we’re taking it a step further. Based on our previous charity fundraisers (See: RMH) we know the impact that our players can make and now we want to help the ALS Association. New special virtual icons featuring ice cubes are now for sale in the Munzee store and proceeds will be donated to ALS research.

Packs of 4 ALS virtual ice cube munzees are for sale until the early September. The owner of the ice cube virtual gets 32 points when they deploy and 32 points will be split between owner and capper when it is captured. An in-game badge will also be earned for any player who captures or deploys an ALS ice virtual.  These virtual munzees are available for purchase through early September with no limit in quantity. Although we’re proud to be a part of such a big movement, be warned that this ice will melt. The ALS virtual ice will melt into your archived list at the end of September.

Munzee Player of the Week: Greg Dryer (GAD64)

What makes Munzee stand out among the sea of smartphone apps is its close ties to healthy activity. While the Munzee community is deeply devoted to ever-evolving technology, we also encourage our players to continue to get out into the world and adventure. Whether it’s the urban landscapes or countryside, Munzee takes its players all over. Greg Dryer (GAD64) is this week’s Player of the Week and his love of the wilderness is fueled even more by his love of finding greenies.  Recommended by several former players of the week, player Boogirs (Rachel W.) had the following to say about GAD64:

Greg welcomed myself and my husband to the area thru Munzee when we started deploying in his area and became a great friend. He has taken it on himself to welcome new players and has started up his own “Munzee 101” class for new and old players alike. He shares all the tips and tricks he’s learned with players of all experience levels!  He’s always available to help everyone with questions while they learn the game. He even shares a birthday with Munzee! I think he embodies everything that is good about Munzee and is a wonderful player to go cap and deploy with, or even to just talk about Munzee. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the title “Player of the Week”…

caveWho are you?
GAD64 A.K.A. Greg Dryer or one of my FAVORITES… Pappi

Where in the world do you live?
I currently reside in Republic, MO USA

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing Munzee just shy of two years.

How did you find Munzee?
Like most people I started playing that “other” GPS game first. I was reading a log on one of my caches OOPS should I say that word HEHE?… and they stated that they were out looking for some weird QR thingies called Muncee or something like that and I scanned my first one that afternoon and have been addicted, obsessed, call it what you will, every since!!!

245What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I like the ease of it versus the other game. I also enjoy making people smile by watching their faces as they hear that wonderful DING when they find one of my Munzees! And there is always the joy of getting people up off the couch and getting active! I deploy on a lot of walking trails so people get a chance to get out of the car and cap!!

What is on your wish list?
My Wish List? Where to begin? How about 6 points for First To Capture? AT LEAST ten points on Mysteries. Just the stats that are required on the clan war page such as captures, points, deploys (not Deploy Points) and the like and updating every half hour. Oh and world peace???

gregTell us about yourself!
I could spend all day with that one but I will keep it short as possible. When I found Munzee I knew it was the game for me!! I basically quit doing the “other” to concentrate on Munzee. At first I wanted to see how well a player could do without being a Premium Member and I almost got into the top 100, like 102 or close. But then here comes the overseas wave and that went by the wayside. I became Premium and would, and do, encourage every SERIOUS player to do so as well!! It has A LOT of perks!! I have given classes on Munzee in my home town and attended several events at which I have met several GOOD people who I consider to be good friends!! After a while being in the game you sort of grow into a community. Not to get too mushy but I feel as if some of my Munzee friends are closer than family!! Can you tell I REALLY LIKE Munzee??

Other hobbies include:
Other Hobbies…. WHAT? are hobbies????? LOL Spending time with the grandkids, like going Munzee hunting, maybe fishing every once in a great while, as long as there’s a Munzee nearby to cap. And lastly going to the dirt track races.
Thank you friends and MUNZEE ON!!!

GAD64 Social

Greg was kind enough to share his social, so cap away!

If you know a player that should be nominated for Munzee Player of the Week, shoot us a message at iLoveYou@Munzee.com and let us know just why this person is outstanding in the global Munzee community!

-Please note, this is a super active campaign. We may not be able to get back to everyone, but you’re helping to grow the list of amazing people in the Munzee community!

Meet Munzee Munday: Dylan Derryberry

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. Over the next few weeks we’ll be showcasing members of Team Munzee so our players can get to know us a bit better. So each Munday (see what we did there?) check in to see a new member of Team Munzee and you decide if you trust the game in our hands. To start off, here is one of our latest recruits, Dylan Derryberry.

Name and Title:
Dylan Derryberry, Master of Media, AKA glorified writer, AKA whatever Rob tells him to be.

Where are you from?
I grew up in McKinney, TX long before Munzee thought it was cool. I’m just that kind of trendsetter.

10410788_10202826176508197_6090280909929696587_nTell us about yourself:
I’m a 24 year old Master of the Universe. I’m father to two Welsh Corgis, who like me as much as most teenagers like their fathers, and I’m expecting my first non-fur child in August with my wife Wylie. No, she’s not named after the city, Texas players. After graduating from McKinney High School (Go Lions) in 2008, I took my skills a bit north to Colorado Mountain College (Go Eagles) in a small town outside of Aspen. While there I got my Associate of Arts, studied theatre, enrolled in Advanced Snowboarding 101 (real class) and River Orientation (also, real class) and blogged about the student experience. After two years in the snow and three vehicles lost to a Texas kid driving on ice, I transferred to the University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks) where I studied journalism. After many nights of studying, singing karaoke and slinging liquor part time, it was finally time to graduate and get a big kid job. Jury is still out on Munzee’s qualification as adulthood.

1556459_10201827722627474_37812141_oHow long have you worked for Munzee?
Although I may have just started a few weeks ago, Team Munzee has welcomed me into their home without hesitation. Their mistake.

How did you find Munzee?
After moving back to McKinney after college graduation I began writing for the local news publication Town Square Buzz. After two months of putting my journalism degree to good use, the publication had to shut down for financial reasons. Out of work, again, my editor-in-chief suggested I reach out to Munzee. The rest is (very short) history.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
Aside from the fun work environment, I’m regularly astounded at the dedication the players have for this game. Whether it’s players coming to visit Munzee Headquarters, the ever-growing game map or how many notifications I get on Facebook at 2 in the morning, the loyalty to Munzee amazes me.

307904_10151117493858235_993509291_nWhat are some of your other hobbies?
After witnessing true art in the form of Gordon Bombay and the District 5 Ducks, I became engrossed with ice hockey at a young age. I played throughout high school and even played a couple weeks in Germany my senior year. In Colorado I attempted to organize a team for the school, which was a blazing success of a failure, but fun all the same. In Kansas I played a year with the school’s club, but busted my shoulder in Chicago and decided it was probably time to call it quits. I still try to get on the ice as often as possible (which isn’t often enough) and cheer on the Dallas Stars in the regular NHL season. Come playoffs, it pays off to be a Chicago Blackhawks bandwagon fan. Other hobbies include watching movies, crafting and working around the house. I’m told I’m never satisfied, which I’m not totally against.

Famous last words?
Worrying is like a rocking chair: It gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.

The time has come for… COPA DO MUNZO!

7Q0izQhCTYL7Relcwba3vbs7eiLVRcm77n5Qea0xGOgIn celebration of Munzee, our players across the world and the greatest sport known to man, we are happy to announce the Copa Do Munzo special map which will go live tomorrow at 3 p.m. (GMT-5). From the first whistle in Brazil on June 12 until Germany hoists the cup (according to Munzee President Rob Vardeman anyway) on July 13, we will have 704 bouncing footballs (soccer balls to those in the States) on the map across the world.  These special captures will attach to physical greenies that have already been deployed internationally and those lucky enough to find them get a Copa Do Munzo special icon and badge. As players cap the specials a reward of 23 points will be randomly split between the player that captured it and the owner of the Munzee. Once captured the ball will bounce to a new location somewhere in the world and similarly if a ball is not captured within six hours of spawning it will relocate.  Why 704 bouncing balls? Why 23 points? Well we’ll leave that to the smartest of our Munzee players to figure out, because those numbers do indeed signify something.

Also, don’t forget to visit www.munzee.com/football to pick who you think will win the Cup this year for a chance to win even more extras. You’ll have until noon (GMT-5) tomorrow to pick your team, so don’t miss out. Good luck to the teams in Brazil, the Munzee players across the world and from the rest of us at MHQ (Rob excluded) GO TEAM USA!

Munzee Players of the Week, Derik Reed and Family!

Globally, Munzee is a network of players bound together by one simple thing, a love of the game, and passion to build our community with other like-minded people.  Munzee provides us with an outlet to get outdoors, do something special with the family, see new sights, and make new friends.  We’re all different, and we each have our own amazing personal story that makes us stronger, and makes this the most amazing group of players (and people) to be a part of.  This week’s Players of the Week are no exception to this. The Reed Family (Derik, Kathryn, David and Julia),  are near and dear to our hearts.  Their love of the game and love of their son David resonate throughout the Munzee community. Today, we want to make them “shine” worldwide with all of you!  Read below and get to know this week’s courageous Players of the Week!

The Reeds

1.  Who are you?  Let us know your “names” and introduce your Munzee family!

We are derikkathryn, Derik Reed, lilgeodave, and lilgeolia. My kids have their own accounts, at their request when we started playing together.

2.  Where in the world do you live? We live in East Helena, MT, USA

3.  How long have you played Munzee?    (Derik) I began playing in January of 2013, 15 months ago.

4.  How did you find Munzee?  Did someone in your family “take” to Munzee first, or was it a passion shared amongst you all?

I discovered Munzee while overhearing it being discussed at an event of the other Geolocation-Game-That-Must-Not-Be-Named. I think they were actually making fun of it; I downloaded the app, and discovered that there were no more than a dozen in the area I was covering (including my home and Spokane, WA). It took me over a month to get to 100 points, as I had not discovered “armchair munzees” yet.  My son David had been diagnosed with ALL, T-Cell Leukemia in October of 2012, and was living with my wife at the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane; munzee provided me with a needed distraction and activity (mostly deploying) while driving back and forth between here and there.  My kids both have active accounts, and have played in clan battles with me, but mostly like to go on walks, and sometimes are ready to be done way before me!

Derik and Julia

5.  What do you enjoy most about Munzee?

I enjoy the opportunity to get outside and exercise, the chance to meet new people with similar interests, including planning local events, coordinating strategic Munzee attacks so that our local clans can compete with the “Big Boys in Europe” and on the Coasts during clan battles.

6.  How has Munzee impacted your relationship with your family, especially your children?

My family frequently munzees together, but I have way more drive than the kids.  Our connections with others, especially while in Spokane, have been greatly augmented by Munzee and the other “Geolocation-Game-That-Must-Not-Be-Named”; also, my connections in that other game have triggered an interest in Munzee in Spokane, where the map has grown from just a few to over 5000 deploys in the last year.  Also, another Munzer visiting Spokane capped some Munzees we deployed while walking to Riverfront Park from the Ronald McDonald House on Easter of 2013; she was so moved by our deploys that she made contact with my wife (at R.M.H.), and provided a significant amount of financial, emotional, and spiritual support while we were in Spokane! The people I play with have become close, personal friends, and their prayers and encouragement have been essential to our navigation of the last year.  More locally, at a recent event in Helena, another player’s son, who is a survivor of  childhood leukemia, was able to meet with my son.  We are forging lifelong connections through this game!

Carroll College Homecoming -- David presented game ball

7.  What is on your wish list?

Most of my wishes have come to pass in the last year–i-nigma on the iPhone, locally planned events, better functionality for conversion and other functions within the app; but the greatest desire I have right now would be for some (or all!) of MHQ to come to one or more events in Montana and Spokane this summer!  It would be an acknowledgement that we in the hinterlands are having an impact on the game!

8.  Tell us more about your son’s treatment, and how the last 18 months have been for your family:

David was diagnosed with cancer on October 8, 2012, two days before his seventh birthday. He was in critical condition, and within hours of his diagnosis, he was life-flighted to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane, Washington. During the first eight months (the most intense phases) of his three and a quarter years of treatment, he and his mother were required to live in Spokane. The Ronald McDonald House of Spokane became their home away from home. Without the Ronald McDonald House and all of the support it offered our family, those eight months away from home, friends, and family would have been even more difficult. The House provided us a safe place to live, play, and interact with other families with children with significant health issues.

We moved home Memorial Day weekend of 2012, but we visit the Ronald McDonald House every time we’re in Spokane to drop off donated pop tabs and to visit; we will always be grateful to the staff and supporters of the House.

Kathryn, David and Derik

David’s treatment consists of five phases, four of which were completed while we lived in Spokane. The first four phases involved IV chemotherapy, intrathecal chemotherapy, oral chemotherapy and steroids, as well as full cranial radiation. The last phase of treatment requires daily oral chemotherapy, a trip to Spokane every four weeks for IV chemotherapy, and a trip to Spokane every twelve weeks for a lumbar puncture and spinal chemotherapy; this cycle is repeated until the end of treatment. David will complete his final chemotherapy and ring the bell as a childhood cancer survivor on January 18, 2016.

Team Munzee is proud to have the Reed Family as this week’s Players of the Week.  The passion and strength they bring to their everyday lives and the game is an inspiration to us, and hopefully, an inspiration to you!  We’d like it if the Munzee community could rally together and capture this very special Social we’ve deployed for lilgeodave:

tghisone

A note from our President:  The Reed family and their story have inspired Team Munzee.  Coming very soon we will celebrate and honor their Munzee connection with the Ronald McDonald House of Spokane.  Prepare for special charity gamepieces, icons, and badges.  More information coming very soon!

Thanks so much for taking a moment to read this important Player of the Week Interview, and capturing this Social.  Keep your eyes on the blog, and on our Social Outlets for the big announcement from Team Munzee.  You can help make a difference in this world! “Expect the Unexpected” this 2014!

Announcement: Munzee donates USD $5,000 to Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism!

The amazing efforts of our active Munzee community lead to over 8,055 hearts captured in the month of April! Player captures raised a total of USD $4,027.50 in donations towards an Autism charity. Team Munzee has decided one organization deserves the incredible efforts of our players.

Flutie Foundation_best jpeg logo

Autism is a neurological disorder that impacts the normal development of the brain (oftentimes in areas of social interaction and communication skills). Autism occurs in as many as one in 150 births, and awareness towards this struggle is something passionately felt by Team Munzee.

The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism was established in 1998 by NFL quarterback Doug Flutie and his wife, Laurie, in honor of their son Doug, Jr. who was diagnosed with autism at age three.

Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation is dedicated to increasing the awareness of autism and improving the lives of families facing the unique challenges of facing autism everyday. Our commitment is to support these families by helping them find the resources they need and by funding advocacy programs as well as educational, therapeutic and recreational opportunities. To learn more about Flutie Foundation, check out the following link: http://www.flutiefoundation.org/

Like Team Munzee, Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation is a small group of passionate people working hard every day to turn their vision into a reality. Yesterday, TJ (VP of Sales/Marketing) reached out to the devoted five-person team and offered our total donation of USD $5,000.00 to their organization! We’re glad we could make a difference by donating to a dedicated organization that will utilize over 90% of our donation towards Autism Awareness (and helping families of children with autism ). Their primary objective is to provide families with a place to turn when they are in need of support and autism resources.

Team Munzee wants to give a big “THANKS” to our player community, YOU are what makes Munzee great. You inspire us to make a difference every day, and today we were able to do just that!

PS: Be sure to give them a little “Like” on Facebook too! https://www.facebook.com/flutiefoundation
