February 2020’s Resolution May Require Some Warm Ups!
How has 2020 been treating you so far? As we announced last month in our January Resolutions blog, we will be launching monthly Capture Streak Badges centered on a year of being active. Each month’s badge will be dedicated to practicing a different exercise. Similar to how our Super Streak badges operate, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. And since this month is the shortest, you have no excuse not to try!
Each month’s badge will be themed around the particular resolution goal. While our January resolution focused on jumping jacks, we decided to slow things down for the month of love. Part of loving someone is being able to accommodate them, even if it requires a slight change in plan, so we made our February resolution to become more flexible!
Why is flexibility important?
While the effort of aerobic exercise is easily measured — in pints of sweat, no doubt — flexibility exercise is much more subtle, and that likely contributes to why it’s often overlooked.
However, neglecting flexibility exercises could be reducing your effectiveness in other types of exercise as well. Improving your flexibility will improve your range of motion. A short article by Harvard Health gives the example of being better at following through with any hit on a ball, be it a forehand with your tennis racket or a swing with a golf club. Being flexible decreases the chance of future injuries, as you will be less likely to overextend yourself and pull a muscle. That same Harvard Health article does point out that “experts no longer recommend stretching before exercise,” though, so make sure your body has warmed up first! Your posture will also benefit from a flexible body, since the muscles required to maintain good posture will be stronger.
You may recall that we celebrated International Yoga Day in 2018! Part of the celebration included a photo contest with players posting their best yoga pose. Our CZeeO even provided an example! Should we take this opportunity to check in on Rob’s progress after 2 years? Would you like to show off your own progress? Keep watching us on social media — you never know what we have planned!
Are you ready to have a more limber body? Before you attempt any flexibility exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!
* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!
** MUNZEE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY EXERCISE-RELATED INJURIES
