PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Player of the Week: Candace Harrison (Candy 32712)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Candace Harrison (Candy32712).

Who are you?
My name is Candace Harrison; player name is Candy 32712.

Where in the world do you live?
I am located in Apopka, Florida which is northwest of Orlando.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing since June 19, 2016.

How did you find Munzee?
Someone I knew had begun to play and showed me and my husband. We tried it out for a week or so under one account, but I decided I wanted to cap, too, so I made an account along with my kids.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I enjoy the walking, but since it’s Florida and really hot, I haven’t done too much of it since spring, so it’s been more virtuals. I can’t wait to get back to all of the walking when it cools down. The most enjoyable parts of the game are the events and the players I get to meet while participating in them.

What is on your wish list?
Well MHQ Bash was on my list, and I was able to attend the ALL IN event in September, and I can’t wait until next year’s! (It was also my first, but not my last, plane ride. 🙂 )

Tell us about yourself!
I have been married for 16 years to a wonderful man named Sonny (Sonny32712). I have three wonderful kinds that all enjoy playing the game and attending the events. I love trying new things and meeting new people.

Other hobbies include:
I love watching movies and reading books. I honestly love all the time I get to spend with my family: watching my sons play high school football and having mother-daughter time with my meatball, Kyndall.

Any last words?
If I haven’t met you yet at an event, I hope to some day do so. Happy Munzeeing!

Player of the Week: Daniel Ferland (XeresDan)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Daniel Ferland (XeresDan).

Who are you?
Daniel Ferland, also known as XeresDan for 20 years.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Levis, south shore of Quebec City, in the province of Quebec in Canada.

How long have you played Munzee?
Yesterday was my 2222nd day (now 2,248 days), so I began in September 2011.

How did you find Munzee?
In some forums. I was really curious, and I immediately liked the description.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
1. The communication with MHQ. The best communication with players. They are really open to suggestions, so the game just grows.

2. The clans. Every month, I push myself outside to fulfill my part as 9 others are counting on me. With my own company and projects ahead, it’s always a great challenge.

What is on your wish list?
Travel some day to capture and deploy worldwide.

Tell us about yourself!
I work in the movie industry as a unit manager and a location manager. I work with people coming in from around the world to shoot movies and travel shows in my region. I work hard on a project to bring more movies here, a regional film and television commission. It should open in 2018, and yes, it will have a munzee at the front door!

Other hobbies include:
Watching movies, making movies, posting about movies…

Any last words?
Please come visit my region. I will be your personal tourism guide.

It really is an honor for me to be POTW! Thanks to my nominators!

Player of the Week: Eddy Visser (BigLion)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Eddy Visser (BigLion).

Who are you?
I’m Eddy Visser, and my Munzee username is “BigLion”.

Where in the world do you live?
I’m living in a very little town call Azelo, and it’s located in the east of The Netherlands.

How long have you played Munzee?
I activated my Munzee account on May 26th, 2013, and it is now over 1600 days old.

How did you find Munzee?
I was playing another GPS game and saw a small sticker near by the location where I found the box. It made me curious because it said “Scan me for points” (it was one of the old fashioned types). Score points? Hmmm. That’s fun, and yes, a new addiction was born.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Going outside for a long distance walk or taking my bike. I recently bought an E-Bike, so I can go further away. It’s the tactical and strategic gameplay of Munzee with so many variations that gives me so much enjoyment.

Often we go for a long day with more Munzee friends to a city where big virtual fields are deployed such as Cologne or Paderborn in Germany or Amsterdam (Netherlands) and we have a great time there. But nost of all, it is the joy of meeting so many players from other countries.

What is on your wish list?
There are some things on my wishlist. Munzee visits to Prague, Berlin, Budapest, and London. I have an idea of making an arrangement to travel with a touring car with a big group of plyers for several days to Prague or Budapest. Maybe sometime…

Another personal wish is to score 100 Myths in one day. Doing that in The Netherlands is not easy.

Tell us about yourself!
Well I was born in 1960 and married in the late 80’s. I’ve got two great daughters who are grown up now and living on their own. I divorced 15 years ago. After that, I had some short relationships, and now I’ve had Anita in my life for more than 6 years. In June this year, I moved into her house. My daily profession is corking in the ICT as System & Application Administrator. Seconded to a customer for more than 10 years now. The alias “BigLion” is a combination of my “2m-length” and “zodiac sign lion”. I’ve used that avatar for many years.

Other hobbies include:
Searching for caches since early 2008. Every Thursday I go out with a good friend of mine to find several caches. I’ve found over 6,000 at this time.

Listening to good much and collecting, specifically the sound of Pink Floyd and, of course, our Ilse DeLange. You should really listen to her beautiful voice and her own written lyrics are very touching.

Any last words?
Thanks to the players who nominated me for POTW. Great! And thanks fo MHQ for making this special game. One little wish from me: Give the scatered specials free for capturing on your own munzees. In areas where few players live, these specials are almost never captured.

Player of the Week: Alex Williams (Squonk)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Alex Williams (Squonk).

Who are you?
I’m Alex Williams aka Squonk in the Munzee world — player #89015.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Big Sky country… Montana, USA. More specifically, Bozeman.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing since March 2013. It would have been a bit earlier, but I didn’t have a phone that was compatible back then (i.e. a smart phone).

How did you find Munzee?
I was at a caching evening 12.5.2012, and another player, tdouthitt, was telling us about a game her co-worker (1 members of theirishduo) was playing. At that time, I didn’t have a phone that would work, but as soon as I upgraded phones a few months later, it was one of the first apps I downloaded.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
All of it — the myths, the specials , that the game keeps evolving, but especially the community of players. I appreciate how there is always another player willing to help someone grow their map. I have  avirtual garden that is a bit more than 1/2 full with nearly 600 virtuals mostly because of the player community.

What is on your wish list?
For the app — moving the notification numbers to some other part of the screen so I won’t accidentally hit it because I like it when that number gets high.

For the game, I’d like Evolutions to continually evolve, e.g. after the third stage they start over again.

For the website, I’d like the map to have filters similar to the app.

And personally, I’d like to travel more to places that I haven’t capped before.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m 40-something, married for 22 years, have a couple of kids and a couple of pets. We all enjoy getting outdoors, and I especially enjoy getting out to walk and cap.

Other hobbies include:
Photography, listening to music, and reading.

Any last words?
Thank you, and Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Rob Collins (coastingcollins)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Rob Collins (coastingcollins).

Who are you?
My name is Rob, Munzee username “coastingcollins”. Some of my friends call me “RoBbY bObBy”.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in the Beautiful Heart of the Ozarks in Springfield, Missouri, USA.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been playing Munzee for 520 days, with a streak to match. My first capture was on May 1st, 2016, and my first deploy was on May 4th, 2016. (I didn’t have any munzees to deploy until a fellow player offered to help me out — Thanks, Semipaw!!!)

How did you find Munzee?
After a long previous day of playing another geo-location based game, I was scrolling through Facebook right before church, and I saw a one-minute video. I told my wife. “rollermama”, that the game looked pretty fun and interesting. Little did I know, I was hooked.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Well, this is a tough question, so I have to go with 2 answers…

First, I would have to say FAMILY TIME. I’m a proud dad of 5 amazing kids and the husband to my amazing, beautiful wife, Cindy aka “rollermama”. The time we go out and play Munzee is priceless. Just sitting back and reflecting on all of the memories the game has brought my family kinda makes me teary eyed.

Secondly, I would have to say events. I really enjoy seeing the community of players get together and enjoy everyone’s company. From the smiles I see from all ages at the events to the stories of other players about their munzing days, they are friends I would be proud to call family. It’s all very special to me.

What is on your wish list?
Traveling the ole roads of the United States and capping and deploying munzees at every amusement park. Oh, and the infamous Glitch Badge.

Tell us about yourself!
Well, like I stated before, I’m a proud dad of 5 amazing kids and the husband to my amazing, beautiful wife, Cindy. We also have three dogs (Jet, Chloe, and Charleigh), two cats (Gadget and KitKat), and tons of fish. I’m a family man and love spending time outdoors with my family.

Other hobbies include:
I’m a big roller coaster geek (hence my name “coastingcollins”). I love riding coasters with friends and family. Again, the smiles you see on people’s faces while they enjoy good times are very rewarding

Any last words?
I would like to thank the local Munzee community, GAD64 and Semipaw. Without them, we couldn’t have grown the map and make Springfield, MO a Munzee stop. I would also like to thank the online Munzee community for helping me fill my local gardens (4 of them so far with 2 more already planned). Lastly, I would like to thank my fellow Munzee players and friends who nominated me for POTW. This is an HONOR, and I’m very thankful. So, until next time, my friends… Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Marko Lehtonen (matanome)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Marko Lehtonen (matanome).

Who are you?
My name is Marko Lehtonen. In the Munzee world, I’m known as matanome. I’m married with two children. At first, our whole family played with the same account, but nowadays, my daughters have their own accounts. My wife, Tarja, still sometimes plays with me on the same account.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Turku, Finland. To those of you who have never heard of Finland, it is a land of a thousand lakes situated in northern Europe. Turku is a beautiful city on the southwest coast of Finland. In Turku, we have a great amount of different types of munzees, so each and every one of you is most welcome here to play with us! Feel free to contact me if you need any kind of help while playing and staying here. 🙂

How long have you played Munzee?
We have played for almost three and a half years now.

How did you find Munzee?
The very first time I heard about the game was from my work mate, but we didn’t create an account and try the game until after my wife had mentioned it to me a bit later. At first, I didn’t like the same as much as my wife and daughters did, but after a knee surgery, I needed to find a reason to walk a lot. Then it really hit me!

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
The main reason I like the game is that it keeps me going. I have lost over 30 kgs just by walking and capturing munzees! I also like meeting new people and making new friends. By playing, I can be outside and enjoy the beautiful nature here in Finland and also get to know many places we have never been to before (even in our hometown!). In the game at the moment, I mostly like capturing free rooms and the Mythological Munzees, and collecting badges, of course.

What is on your wish list?
I have so many wishes! 😀 More badges, of course, and it would be nice to get ZeeOps credits and blast captures as clan rewards every once in a while. I have already met Rob (he was a nice fellow), but I would like to meet other Munzee staff, too, so please visit Turku soon… I would also like to have more clan war months where you actually have to move and collect the points by capturing greenies and other physical munzees. I also dream about virtuals that every Premium Member would get every once in a while. They would look like the national flag of the player’s home country, so, for instance, I could deploy Finnish flag munzees at places I have been and I could see which countries other players who have visited our town are from.

Tell us about yourself!
I am a 38-year-old young man who works as a warehouse worker at a distribution center in Kaarina. I’m a hockey enthusiast and support the local ice hockey club Turun palloseura (TPS)

Other hobbies include:
My other hobbies include being a floorball referee, playing video games, and Pokemon Go, and watching movies and good TV series.

Any last words?
Thanks to those who nominated me! You are all very welcome in Turku. Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Jeen Huisman (J1Huisman)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Jeen Huisman (J1Huisman).

Who are you?
I’m Jeen Huisman, playing the game as J1Huisman.

Where in the world do you live?
I’m living in Zwolle, the Netherlands.

How long have you played Munzee?
Since October 2013.

How did you find Munzee?
I didn’t find Munzee, Munzee found me. Some members of the team I was working with in those days, including me, we caching. We wanted to introduce the game to another coworkers, but that coworker went googling and found Munzee as a new GPS-based game and said, “Why don’t we try this?” So we did, and bit by bit we got hooked on Munzee. So, thanks to “BaDo”, the game was introduced in the Apeldoorn region.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Teaming up with other players and travelling to Munzee fields together; visiting events and hunting down Mythologicals. Munzee brought me back on my bike and made me more fit again by lowering my weight by several kilos. Most captured of Mythologicals in the Zwolle region have been made biking around.

What is on your wish list?
Visiting the United States, especially MHQ in McKinney and capping exclusive local munzees.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m an IT Systems and Application Administrator, happily married for over 30 years (hint, hint, did you already capture that social>>) with Hettie. She joined the Munzee community as “Pinkeltje” in July of this year. We have a daughter (Inge) and a son (Niels). I think most players will have recognized my love for the Frisian Cow in my avatar.

I’m a part of the Munzee clan “Elmbridge Hundred Clan of 1086” with English, American, Swiss, and Dutch players.

Other hobbies include:
Biking, solving puzzles (e.g. sudoku)

Any last words?
Many thanks to the players who wrote to Munzee for my nomination.

Player of the Week: Hanna Turunen (Jesnou)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is, Hanna Turunen (Jesnou).

Who are you?
My name is Hanna, and my Munzee name is Jesnou.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in Siilinjärvi, Finland just about 10 kilometers north of Kuopio.

How long have you played Munzee?
I’ve been playing Munzee since May 2014.

How did you find Munzee?
One day, my hubby (FlexPete) showed me a picture of a QR code and asked if I knew what it was. Of course I knew about QR codes, but his question got me thinking that it would be pretty cool if there was a game that is based on finding and/or scanning QR codes. He got excited and started to tell me about Munzee! He had seen his co-worker trying to find a munzee (He found it!). I installed the Munzee app right away, and we headed to the town to find some munzees. After a couple of days, he created his own account.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I really like that Munzee gets me outside and exploring new places. I also like chasing Mythological Munzees and other temporary specials. But what I really enjoy the most about Munzee is meeting other players and going munzeeing with friends. I try to attend every event in Finland and love to host events as well. Munzee really brings people together and a lot of lifelong friendships can be made.

What is on your wish list?
I hope that I can travel more in the future; attend events abroad and meet more players and makes. Maybe Munzee could add a Munzee piggy bank to their merchandise. I could use it to save for a trip to the US. A Coexist Host badge and more fitness badges would be great. You cannot have too many badges, right?

It might also be time for a new nomad, maybe a “Fortune Teller” nomad that bounces on Zodiac Munzees. I would also like to have a “NEW” filter option in the app that would show all new deploys from the last 7 days.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m a postal worker in a mail sorting centre in Kuopio. I’m married, and we have a 2 year old Coton de Tulear, Jasper. He doesn’t always understand why “mommy” has to stop by every light pole. I enjoy walking in nature and loooove to bake. I listen to music when I’m doing something, so almost all of the time. My friend has inspired me to take more photos, and it’s really fun. I think I might have an eye for photography *grin*.

Other hobbies include:
In addition to Munzee, I love postcards. I’m a semi-active postcrosser. Postcards always make people smile.

Any last words?
thank you to all who nominated me! I’m very surprised and honored to be nominated. Best early birthday gift ever!

Remember to cap it if you can!

Player of the Week: Dieter (paupau)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is, Dieter (paupau).

Who are you?
My name is Dieter, and my user name is “paupau”.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in a little town next to my munzee homezone Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

How long have you played Munzee?
My account is now more than 750 days old. My first capture was on June 30, 2015. My first deploy was on the next day. I’m a beginner. 🙂

How did you find Munzee?
During her sumer vacation in 2015, my daughter participated in the holidays games at a Munzee-Taster course that was organized by freddus.

At first, my daughter and I went out together in our home zone to find munzees. Even when on trips, we searched for them. I found it to be more and more fun as I gained more experience. My daughter continues to play but not as intensely as I do. 🙂

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Through my office work, I sit a lot at a desk. Munzee creates the ideal balance for more movement and my need for fresh air. 🙂

Over time, I’ve met a lot of wonderful people. If there are players from other places in my neighborhood, I try to contact them and have a little chat. Especially during our recent mega birthday events (“Munzee Meets OWL” — OWL = East Westphalia-Lippe) in Bielefeld and Paderborn with more than 250 participants, which I helped organize, I was able to meet a lot of new people — and even Rob, personally!

What is on your wish list?
Besides many places in Germany, I have visited Prague and Amsterdam. If time permits, I would like to go to Budapest, London, and the USA.

I hope that through the game, I will still get to know many nice lampposts… oh… people in the future. 🙂

On my long term to-do list, there is also the badge for the Top 50 waiting for me. But that will probably still take a while…

And, of course, I want to find out how to get the badge “???\u00bf//” 😉

Editor’s Note: We have no idea what badge you’re talking about. 😉

Tell us about yourself!
I am just over 40-years-old, married, and have 2 children.

Both children occasionally play Munzee. I have not been able to persuade my wife yet, but I am working on it…

Other hobbies include:
Other hobbies?!? Besides my family and Munzee, time is too short for other hobbies. Munzee has practically my undivided attention. 🙂

Any last words?
I would like to thank all those helpful people who

supported me right from the beginning with advice and deeds, with which I was allowed to play in the clan, and everybody I have met in the course of my short Munzee history. And, of course, all those who nominated me for POTW.

Player of the Week: Brian Glaski (cachewhisperer)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is, Brian Glaski (cachewhisperer).

Who are you?
Brian G. aka cachewhisperer

Where in the world do you live?
Currently Orlando, FL

How long have you played Munzee?
I have been a member since 2012

How did you find Munzee?
I was on a road trip with War1man and Rosieree to WV for a Hatfield and McCoy Tour hosted by some great friends. Every now and then along the way, Warren would find a munzee nearby and run back to the car to grab his phone. That night, at dinner in a local restaurant, there was a QR code on a ketchup bottle. Making a joke to YankaBucs about scanning the ketchup munzee, it turned out to be worth 1 point. I was shocked and downloaded the app. That ketchup bottle was my second munzee scanned after a regular virtual.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I enjoy the walking aspect of the game. I’m very competitive with points, but I will never let the original intention of the game to get people out walking for exercise to escape me.

What is on your wish list?
One day, I would like to get over to Europe and see where their Munzee trails bring me. Or maybe even a clan war month with no virtual captures/CapOns. Just physicals. I like a challenge.

Tell us about yourself!
I am a paramedic working my way up with training and experience and eventually have a goal of becoming a firefighter/paramedic in NH.

Other hobbies include:
From time to time I do enjoy taking out the golf clubs and smacking a few around. My game has improved quite a bit lately, so if MHQ is up for a challenge… Haha.

Any last words?
Isn’t this what they ask you before pulling the switch on the electric chair? I’d like to say thanks to the MHQ staff for all that they do. It’s not an easy job pleasing everyone, but there are many that appreciate what you do.
